A1. One Computing related. One not.
I'd love to learn how to play the trumpet.
I also need to get my finger out and finally learn all things Crumble!
#CASChat
A1 All of the new features in Scratch 3.0. How wrong would it be to ditch this weeks lesson plan for Yr 6 and play (learn) with Scratch? Asking for a friend of course 😉#caschat
A2 - slow down and have more fun. 3rd year of a 4 year programme so now children have the skills for their year group and we can spend more time tinkering and creating #STEAM#caschat
I'm also looking to take a bunch of CISCO courses, including Intro to Networking & Routing and Switching Essentials.
Also hoping to add a Cyber Security course on there too!
#caschat
A2. What will I be doing differently?
Vocab Vocab Vocab. Need to throw the vocab at my kids.
They know the processes and as SUPER creative, but sometimes aren't able to articulate what they've done.

A2 Take more risks. Trying Co Spaces to code environments and view them on the VR headsets - so much to go wrong but it feels right to push content creation for VR. #caschat
A2 - I will be trying to focus more on depth of understanding instead of trying to hit everything. in order to make my teaching less stressful in trying to get everything covered. #caschat

Due to staff changes I’m teaching the whole computing curriculum all year (not just coding / programming & networks) so I’m teaching loads more software / using which is new & different for me. (KS2). It’s .... fun ? #CASChat A2

A2 Making sure the programming vocabulary understanding, matches the practical programming understanding i.e. looking at blocks of code unplugged and fully labeling it #CASChat
A3.
I've planned a new SoW that teaches programming through projects. One of them is using the micro:bit. I also want to use flipped learning for theory topics.
#caschat
a3 #caschat I want to explore #scratch3 more, especially with the #MicroBit integration. Continue to look how to apply design principles and primm to my CS teaching.
A3: Well even though we don't have any cash to spend I did manage to "cough" source 10 robotic kits and scrounge some more micro-bits to replace the broken ones (which I bought anyway!!) 😉😜 #caschat
A3 #caschat Hoping to expand #STEM#STEAM opportunities and embed further into the curriculum. Expanding Digital Leader roles and pushing wearable tech, which will also mean teaching lots of seeing and knitting and other linked skills
A3 Trying our the Micro:bits, WeDo and maybe even dusting off the old Picoboards to see what works well with Scratch 3.0 (still far too excited about it 😂) #caschat
A3 Using #RaspberryPi with classes now I have a budget to spend on them! Strategies will include projects and tinkering. I quite like the idea of a #RobotWars style project where they need to pop balloon of other team. #caschat
A3.
I also want to ahve a go at a bit more text based programming with my year 6 pupils this year.
Not sure what yet, I just feel this cohort could get to grips with some of the simpler bits. Any suggestions?
#CASchat
A2: Looking to working even more closely with other organisations to support teacher skills in Computing and trying my best to deliver more training sessions #CASchat
Hi #caschat sorry I'm late. Alan from Manchester - CAS Master Teacher. Had a lovely break including water slides at Center Parcs (ouch, feeling my age this week). Considering changing my Twitter handle to mraharrisoncs or similar, discuss...
A3. I want to make more use of #Git in 2019. It's a way developers backup software online, and it's a bit fiddly (so for sixth formers and above), but it's an industry standard. We use it, but not as a matter of routine. #CASCHAT
A2: Definitely doing less planning. Not scrabbling around to find killer resources and daft activities! More explicit teaching and guided practice. Not being afraid of silent writing. #caschat
A3 hoping finally to start using all the @CiscoNetAcad resources, including packet tracer to teach networks. Also embedding #Rosenshine's principles of instruction, and improving my pedagogy by understanding how children learn, scientifically speaking.
#caschat
#caschat A4 These chats always have positive vibes. You meet new
educationalists & other teaching professionals … There’s always something
(new) to learn, share or discover. For short: there’s no reason NOT to take
part 😊.
A2 - A staffing change has just altered my plans, I do want to rewrite the KS3 Curriculum and change the python units - also include more old school ICT stuff. Bought about by watching an A-Level Physics class struggle with formulas in Excel #CASChat
A4: Well apart from free beer just get them to watch one chat and put in the odd hello to start with until they're comfortable with the whole thing, some of my work co-workers are just too intimidated by tech in general to be honest #caschat
Q5.
Go to your local CAS Hub, ask questions, work with other teachers (Computing & other subjects), take advantage of free CPD to meet other teachers and learn new skills, relax, enjoy!
#caschat
#caschat A5. Live chat is always best, but even if you can't take part in the live chat, you can still catch up later. You don't even need a Twitter account to follow.

A1. Like to finally learn @awscloud this year after a few false starts, maybe @SwiftPlayground too? Doubt I'll get the time as am learning @isams still #CASChat

@clcsimon, @awscloud, @SwiftPlayground, @iSAMS
A5 simple rules for teaching programming EPICally
Explain the concept at hand
Predict - ask students if I change this what happens
Improve - get students change this code to do x
Create - get students to use this new technique to do y
#caschat
A5: If it's your first time teaching CS, especially in a primary, smile a lot, make lots of jokes and just don't worry about making any mistakes as the kids will see you are just normal like that are, and there will be bad days but not many ✌️👍😁#caschat
Q5 Don't reinvent the wheel! There are enough resources, assessments and videos to cover everything.
Get the pupils working harder than you!
Also make sure you sign up for #CAS and @WeAreComputing#CASChat
A2: Trying to teach a lot better so that I can avoid doing any intervention. Last year was an incredible year for outcomes but it was also intervention-heavy. I don't want students to depend on intervention and it's the wrong culture and unsustainable for all. #caschat
A5 - 1. join #caschat every week. 2. Go and see good practice whenever you can. 3. Don’t be afraid to learn alongside the students. It’s ok to not know ... yet. 4. Have fun #caschat
A2) Also anchor charts i.e. large functional posters that I and students refer to regularly. I've started posting them on wikimedia and CAS. For years I made my classroom pretty but the displays were either wallpaper or they could not be read from further than 1m away. #caschat
A5 Join your local CAS hub, Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't try to do too much at once - there are so many fab things to do and not enough time to master them all. And obviously join in with #caschat
A6. Two things for my work-life balance.
1. Always stop working at 8pm. No good work happens after 8pm.
2. I have an EXCELLENT FUT team on Fifa this year!!
#CASChat
We are slowly edging down the @MicrosoftTeams route but still have a year or two of @fireflyteam left at least as we are getting more people than ever to use it #caschat

Thanks for joining us Isabella and Happy New Year.
Highly recommend @Sonic_Pi as 1st text-based language. Based on Ruby so very forgiving especially with syntax errors! #caschat
A6) Well being a techie Santa brought me a fitbit so a good tip will be to try and hit some of the goals it sets. 10000 steps achieved on the last two work days!! #caschat
A5: beg, steal or borrow resources. Stop looking for that special activity that's going to Wow them, just explain something well and get them using the knowledge / skill you've taught. And bring yourself, have fun and relax! #caschat
A2) Making video tutorials for teachers. There's some ineffective/inefficient practice out there that is fad-based. I'd like to share what other teachers on Twitter have shared e.g. whole class marking and feedback, lesson starts and misconceptions. #caschat
A6: I need to get to bed a reasonable time and stop thinking I'm still18.!! but seriously, make time for yourself and family and try to get some exercise in the week even if it is only a walk #caschat
A6. OK so I just finished the excellent "Live Well Teach Well" by @abbiemann1982 and I'm going to try having a "midweek weekend" i.e, leave early on a Tuesday and do no work :) #caschat
A4) You could always make an account with a pseudonym account and follow lots of teachers, then "listen in" to #caschat every Tues to start with. There are no silly questions. I've never heard/seen any negativity on #caschat - I can't say the same about the rest of eduTwitter!
Huge thanks to everyone who joined us tonight. I'm now off to watch #SilentWitness
We'll be back next week with the awesome @tech_magpie who will be discussing workload!
Happy New Year!
