The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Hi, #INeLearn! Michelle checking in. So glad to have you leading tonight's chat @TheresaJHall. For those who don't know, she was one of the earliest participants and supporters!
#DeputyPickett's funeral procession will be passing thru @WhitestownIN tomorrow so we will dismiss school at 1 pm on Friday, 3/9. Join us as a unified body of believers at 2 pm in the CHURCH's front lots to share the love of Jesus to those who are mourning as we #WalkInWisdomTPCS
#inelearn A1 Primary source speakers/experts bring real life information to the students. They are in the field every day. They live it! It engages the students in learning because the can interact and ask questions.
R1 The Ss hear our voices daily; there's nothing like an expert in the field to add authenticity and to reinforce our message in a way Ss haven't heard before. #INeLearn

R1: I think it lets students connect how what they are doing in schools can relate to real life! And coming from a small town school it lets them see the possibilities of careers in the world, that they don't necessarily see in just our town. #inelearn
#inelearn Check our @TeachingLChttps://t.co/foRpOF2yWy. Go to primary source analysis. Pre made questions to assist teachers. We use the oral history sheet with our students when speakers present.
R1: Bringing in professionals has been tremendous for us. Helps the kids gain confidence. Helps others see that our youth are very strong. It also helps us build a better network for our future. #INeLearn
Oops. Sorry to be late to #INeLearn. To think that yesterday I was in Florida.... Excited to see that @TheresaJHall is the moderator. I've had pleasure of meeting her & following her for some time. As a former science T, this topic impt to me.
#inelearn A2 Their schedules and the time of our class. We have been fortunate to have an administration that allows us to pull Ss for presentations. Our guests have accommodated as well. Malcolm-Jamal Warner joined us from LA at 530 a.m. his time for our class at 8:30 a.m.
Wouldn't you all agree that primary source experts (as @ToddShriver explains) can "take the pressure" off teachers who no longer have to fear they don't know all of the "answers" to the questions asked by students? #INeLearn
I've recorded their presentation with Google Hangouts before, but the next groups don't get to ask the questions - they get to watch a 'movie'. #INeLearn
Thanks Theresa! It has been a great experience for us. Need to give lots of credit to my colleague @1988project! He has no fear when it comes to contacting people of interest. #INeLearn

@TheresaJHall, @TeachingLC, @1988project
R2: Even if I can only get them for one class, it is still a great experience. We've been fortunate enough to have several that would do all classes. #INelearn
A really good point for secondary teachers. There are some interesting possibilities thanks to tech, but there is something about being Live and having time for Q & A #INeLearn
We did one after school with the author of a book our Seniors are reading. It allowed all students to attend and allowed the author to interact with all Ss. #INeLearn
#INeLearn A3 @davebangert shared our story of Mike Eruzione’s visit to our classroom to share his story of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team. We showed the movie Miracle as a preface and discussed the climate of the world.

R3: Students can help look for experts! One 6th grade class researching the Keystone Pipeline hit the phones and got lots of experts! I was amazed by some of the connections they made. #INeLearn
R3 In a way, I'm "virtually" teaching #DigCit because I'm still Director of Technology @TradersPointCS after our jr high principal "begged" me to take on teaching when media teacher got re-assigned to 2nd grade after a midyear resignation. I couldn't do this w/out tech #INeLearn

R3: We've been able to Skype and do Google Hangouts with a few awesome companies. Boston Dynamics Skyped with us about the incredible robotic engineering they do. #INeLearn Virtual does "tear down" some walls. #INeLearn
#inelearn A3 If you contact someone and explain what the class is about and why you would like the to participate, most are willing to help out schools. There will be rejection. Don’t ever be afraid to try!!
They practiced their ?? & manners with their T. I heard a lot of the conversations because they were using my phones in the library. They also used email. I helped them connect with Skype, Facetime, Google, etc. They asked their experts for their preference to connect. #INeLearn

R4: this has been on my to do list for a long time. I didn’t have any thoughts on how to reach out to people or get started. In 30 minutes I have tons of resources. Thanks so much everyone! #inelearn
R4 Love this question as it is also a reminder that we should always be sharing how we make amazing things possible for our learners! IN folks Tweet and share with #INeLearn. I get all kinds of gems there!

R4: We find a lot of guest by asking on our class Facebook page. https://t.co/fee8p7Vx28. #INeLearn Our community is very supportive of the work our kids do. They are pretty awesome.
R2: I have learned so much through the shared experiences of others. When we bring professionals into our classrooms we open the door to insights we cant provide our students on our own. #inelearn
Speaking of the #HighEd@DrThomasHo, I found a couple of state universities that put together lists of their experts willing to connect. Wouldn't it be awesome if IN schools did something similar? #INeLearn
#INeLearn A4 We have actually made a majority of our connections through email or phone calls to reps. (If you can avoid publicist, please do ask @1988project!!) Happen to catch Mike Eurzione on Twitter.

R4: Local business owners conduct interviews with students during our career unit. Students practice their interview skills in a speed dating type activity. #INelearn
R4: Our HS Ss did a mystery skype with a group of Jr. High Ss. We could tell how well their T prepped them to try & figure out our location. It was impressive & we definitely thought they were going to crush us. #INeLearn

A4: Give them a hook ahead of time. Get them excited and intrigued about the field or content, that way they come to the table with quality Qs. #INeLearn
R4: I worked with a school in IL that did this. The student was sort of an "onsite" moderator. Worked great! They were skyping @TheInterrupters#INeLearn
#IneLearn A4 We prep by studying the person’s background and use @YouTube and other videos that show the person’s work. Ss get in groups to formulate questions and then I work with them to edit questions as needed. We never ask “gotcha” questions.
Having joined many groups virtually, the worse thing is not seeing your audience; if possible let your Ss experience being the speaker (out of space) so they get a sense of place #INeLearn
R4: We've had our #PLTW Ambassadors take a laptop with camera around the room to show guests the work they do and some resources they have. #inelearn. When we have physical guests, the students are always the guide so that I can still teach.
#IneLearn A4 Also, we focus on the person and their accomplishments. Ex: We were joined by Joe Piscopo. He best friend is Eddie Murphy. We had the Ss focus on Joe and his work. You guests are taking time out of their schedule to speak.
#IneLearn A5 Been fortunate to have John Stamos recently. Good question! In the beginning it was Mark Goodman and Alan Hunter because of MTV being such a dominate force when I was growing up. Dream: Billy Joel
A4: Don't forget about good old fashioned network. Evansville has a pretty good tech/startup community that loves to connect and give back. You just gotta ask. #inelearn

R: from my experience, most academic colleges have an outreach or recruitment coordinator, they can be a great first step to connecting to a faculty member. #INelearn
#IneLearn The stories of Mark Goodman and Alan Hunter are fascinating. From Live Aid to Billy Joel in Russia, these two were the first to answer and participate. They have spoke each year to our Ss. They are the pioneers that have allowed us to be where we are today.
At the fall #HSDLead event, the Concord team @JerleckiTechLab & @kruth14 brought in a software engineer and programmer from Pear Deck to speak with kids as well as a surprise YouTube sensationalist guest via Hangouts #INeLearn
