Q1 What did your parents do that fostered a fixed or growth mindset in you?
Michele, one of your moderators just getting home from my son's baseball game. His team won! 13-0.
A1 Modeled stepping out of their comfort zones & trying something new!
A1: I was always told to have fun and learn from my mistakes.
A1: Encouraged me to take risk, gave autonomy, never labeled me with "fixed" words: smart, fast, handsome (I might be all 3 though)
Aric wins for funniest tweet! https://t.co/LdF14A8VDZ
A1: Encouraged me to take risk, gave autonomy, never labeled me with "fixed" words: smart, fast, handsome (I might be all 3 though)
A1: my mother encouraged me to try anything and never discouraged me even when things weren't great at first.
A1: GREAT Q! "Did you do the best that you could? Then that's the best that you could do."- always focused on effort, not on grades
It may be a cliché, but telling me I could do anything was magic! https://t.co/LwNTkApVvh
Q1 What did your parents do that fostered a fixed or growth mindset in you?
A1 My parents encouraged hard work, praised process and talent, but seemed to understand that specific feedback was better
A1: I grew up w/o much money, but wanted to be a teacher. My fam never let me doubt I could be the first to graduate from college!
A1: I am fortunate that my parents modeled for me a great work ethic ... which is foundational for a growth mindset.
A1: My Ps always offered encouragement &guidance &let me try. Praised my efforts & if I failed let me know it was a failure not me.
A1: Encouraged me to do my best & didn't accept less. Showed confidence in me.
A1: Not all effort was equal effort - emphasis on BEST effort. They worked hard, and it made me want to work hard, too
A1: We had open dialogue about what was happening in school, how I felt and how I could change what i did not like about situations
A1: My daddy always said that if I worked hard for what I want, it was achievable. GRIT!
A1 Fostered a sense of worth and dignity. Loved me when it was hard and I was a jerk. Think Rita Pierson...
A1 My parents fostered through expecting you to finish what you completed, modeled a strong work ethic
A1 Showed me there was a world of possibilities out there. Showed me that hard work and being a good person gets you places.
A1 My parents lead w/out controlling, cared w/out coddling, inspired w/out forcing, & taught me w/out judging.
A1 beat me when I was out of control. Fixed my mindset quickly
. YES! I remember wanting to drop bio in 8th grade. NOPE. Once you commit, you commit.
A1: I was always a numbers kid & LOVED baseball & football trading cards. My mom would ask me about my cards. Why I like player X
A lot of supportive, encouraging, positive parents out there! Thankful to have fostered such a great PLN.
. So important to teach kids just to be GOOD people.
A1: my mom and dad always taught me, and my eight siblings, to teach yourself.
A1 Especially my dad, “You don’t know unless you ask. What’s the worst thing? You do not get what you want. So! Then do different”
A1 I believe my parents fostered both mindsets in me simply because they didn't know the difference or how to foster growth.

A4: Always a work in progress! Important for growth mindset POLICIES & PRACTICES to match messages! Proud of our work & journey.
A4: Started 2 incorporate principles: redo/retake for full credit after relearning, separating proficiency from behavior
A4 Everyone is at a different place on the journey. Keeps it very interesting...
A3: Immediate self-reflection is crucial followed by a mental flush. Further reflection is needed to shed light on mistakes made.

A4:Few Ts I work w have a growth mindset.Most just say they do.If there're arbitrary deadlines or don't allow retakes, you're fixed
My Ss did the Not Perfect Hat Club with and it changed their mindset. An amazing experience. https://t.co/ho9tW3AjRb

A4 I have seen many people taking a positive approach to a very difficult job...embracing Ss, Ts, & Ps as learners on a journey.
A4: Parts have and others are still hanging on - they haven't seen the light YET.
My current goal is to advocate for balance in edu: growth minds sets need strong skill sets. Self-confidence back by self-efficacy.
. Thanks! Our talk from Detroit Metro was certainly inspiring and gave me ideas/direction. Thanks, again.
Its a journey!

Q4 Has your team/school/district embraced a growth mindset? How do you know?
A4, we've seen some great transformations in classrooms around the country, but have yet to a school-wide pilot.
Q5 Fostering a growth mindset takes practice. What do you need to practice to reach success?
A4 trick question. We all have growth and fixed mindsets depending on subject or situation. Can't be all or none
A4: It is definitely in the works. It is actually a mindset being pushed at state level
A4 We honour the steps Ts take to reflect and grow. It's hard to not want instantaneous change, but boy, when it happens...awesome!
A4: Yes-School is showing videos weekly & discussing w Ss in specials. Bulletin boards up about it too.
A4: Some have embraced the - I know because they ask a lot of questions and show vulnerability
I wonder about that. If we have a GM, doesn't it apply in most situations? https://t.co/SlVqNEOat5
A4 trick question. We all have growth and fixed mindsets depending on subject or situation. Can't be all or none
A5 We could start by admitting failure in front of students. “I made a mistake . . and here is what I learned.. .

Q5 Fostering a growth mindset takes practice. What do you need to practice to reach success?
Being patient and supportive can pay amazing dividends! https://t.co/ciDA2xAzMm

A4: Unfortunately my current school climate & culture seems to be creating more fixed mindsets!
A4 The concept of moves us away from learning and toward a dream.
A5: Serenity, patience and a leash from admin, trust from my students and parents.
A5 - I need to practice putting into play all that I am reading. I need to read and then try it! https://t.co/2g6czansac
Q5 Fostering a growth mindset takes practice. What do you need to practice to reach success?
Tamara from Anguilla, a bit late but glad to be here
A4: Paradigm Shifts do not happen quickly. Changes are incremental. But we are trying to praise kids for their hard work.
A4: All of our teachers did lessons on and the power of YET! They made it visible for kids.
A5: Embrace failure. Be vulnerable and ask for feedback.
A5 Patience. Humour. Patience. Opportunities. Patience. Relationships. Patience...
A 4 ... to live the fact that stress (cortisol) shuts down learning & truncates progress! DO opposite. https://t.co/3bD7URBmo7
A5: Letting. Go. Tough being kind of a control freak and also embracing failure and mistakes
A5: Leaders could start next school year by taking about their “three biggest bloopers” and what they learned.
A5: Patience - and the willingness to listen
A5 helping kids to fail comfortably (first attempt in learning)
Never too late Tamara, jump on in!
A5: Cannot think of a single thing I do that does not still require practice. Can always improve!

Let it go. Let it go! https://t.co/uD9S9jg5Nk
A5: Letting. Go. Tough being kind of a control freak and also embracing failure and mistakes
A5: Vulnerability, patience, a great PLN () a classroom culture that embodies trust and risk taking

A4 We honour the steps Ts take to reflect and grow. It's hard to not want instantaneous change, but boy, when it happens...awesome!
I agree. It is important that admin's practice growth mindset w/ Ts as well, not just Ss.
A5: Adam is exactly right about embracing failure - but let’s ask - what happened to the last public failure in your district?
A5 You have to take it seriously; believe in it; stop yourself in the midst of negativity & seek inspiration, support, ideas
A5 pt1. We believe the skills that make up a are beliefs around mistakes, feedback, struggle, and success.
A3: Making mistakes is part of becoming successful. We must fall down to reflect more deeply & change paths for the best outcomes
would say we can be more Gm than not but if we analyze I'm sure we would find both
A5 I need to practice standing my ground with process time; too often I've been forced into decisions and endorsements early.
A5 pt2 We practice them by constantly putting ourselves out of our comfort zone through intentionally rituals and activities.
Thank you. That does make sense. I can see both in myself depending on the situation.

A1 My parents always praised my victories no matter how small, every little win is still a win
A4 District worked hard to build coherence-high yield strategies-literacy, math, assessment-sustained imprvmnt on multiple measures
So many of us educators fall into the "control freak" stage...we just want what is best. Best is to let go https://t.co/5x996eiHo2
A5: Letting. Go. Tough being kind of a control freak and also embracing failure and mistakes
A5: I need to be empowered in a group of people of different mindsets and allowed to shape the course of our school journey!

A5: I need to model "risk taking" for my teachers ... and cultivate security within the staff so they are willing to take risks.
A5 Develop a relationship with others who you know have a growth mindset and learn from them how they do
Agree-we need to do this. Do we as Ts create cultures for our Ss to do the same? https://t.co/jp5C7dCmHO
A5 Need to practice vulnerability, humility, and risk-taking.
