#TXed A1 Planning can be done individually, collaboration is a GROUP planning, sharing ideas and visions TOGETHER to accomplish the goal. #AlwaysBelieve
A1: Planning vs Collaboration Planning is the teacher’s what
Collaboration is the magic that sparkles when professional educators refine a plan to deliver it to students who ultimately benefit from the decisions made as a team. #TXed
A1: Planning: developing a set of steps to achieve a task. Collaboration: discussing and working together on topics of interest in order to reach a common goal or understanding. #TXed
A1 Planning- looking at short term calendar type events. Maybe even looking at standards and deciding how you’ll reach them. Collaboration- working together to test ideas, look at goals, make decisions for the long term good of all. #TXed
A1: I think “planning” is more about scheduling activities/syncing calendars - “collaboration” is more focused on sharing ideas/passions and finding fresh vision together. Planning is necessary, but collaboration is where the magic happens!! #TxEd
A1: Planning is done, quite often, in a silo. Collaboration allows for an exchange of ideas to benefit ALL students, not just the ones you’re planning for. Facilitates & encourages constant teacher growth! #TXed#EDUchat#EdLeadership
A1: Planning- pinning down what TEKS when. Collaborating- drilling down deeper, what’s it look like, what should kids know, what evidence proves mastery. Working with colleagues to talk about the how #txed
A1: I believe planning is what most any group can do - look at expectations, map out a plan to get to the next thing, sort out details of grades. Collaboration is discussion, questioning, planning for risk taking and change. #txed

You can plan without collaborating. Not as effective or meaningful. Planning can be an mindless act. Collaboration is more of an active particpant kind of thing. #Txed

For collaboration there has to be dialogue and discussion. There has to be talking. Planning, like @GorbetKristine said, could happen by yourself or in isolation. You also have to know where you are going and what focus is. #TXed
A2: various elements, however, some key ones are: data (it doesn’t lie but doesn’t tell the whole story either), student achievement & growth, not taking suggestions as criticisms- it’s about the learning needs of Ss! #TXed#EDUchat#EdLeadership
A2 Planning- know you’re what and make a plan to get there- class by class. Collaboration- know your who, what, when, where, WHY, how- as a whole group. #txed
A2: Mutual respect between participants, willingness to ask challenging questions as well as a willingness to be asked challenging questions, a growth mindset, and a genuine interest in the outcome! #TxEd
A2: Common goal and understanding, set aside “my needs” and focus on the needs of ALL students, pre-preparation on tasks that are necessary but time-consuming; openness, listening ears, and trust sure doesn’t hurt. #txed
A2: You need to know where you’re going, start with the end in mind. What do the standards mean, how will kids show mastery? Think about what you’ll use in small group #txed
#txed A2 EVERYTHING in education revolves around what is best for the kids! When the goals are to improve the kids, the planning / collaboration is effective. JOY can be produced in the teacher that does this.
A2: Kids don’t learn from teachers they don’t like.
And teachers don’t share with teachers they don’t like.
We have to balance our relationships so that we can have effective PLCs to impact our instructional design. #TXed

A2-In planning, you need to have some type of knowledge on where you need to go. In collaboration, you need to be open to share that knowledge and be willing to receive new knowledge from others. #TXed
Q3: If planning deals with more of the what and the when, how does your team, school, or district determine when and where standards are taught and that the lesson are engaging and effective?
#TXed
A2: A2: Elementals necessary for effective collaboration and planning are a set of agreed upon norms, commitment to a focus/goal, a firm understanding of available time and resources, and the ability to both listen and be heard. It’s not a solo performance! #TXed
A3-Sometimes I wish we could front load a little more before the school year starts. This way we can collaborate more on what is and what is not working. #TXed
At our school district we have teacher written curriculum. Before having a curriculum writing team, we would talk amongst the grade level teams to determine when and where. We had guidance from our A.S. but always collaborated to make it work for our students.
#txed

#TXed
We push in instructional coach support to ask the questions that should be making teachers think deeper. Asking why is powerful. Backing it up with data is even better. It’s not about “changing teachers” plans,” it’s about making them better and more effective for kids. #TXed
Q3: If planning deals with more of the what and the when, how does your team, school, or district determine when and where standards are taught and that the lesson are engaging and effective?
#TXed
A3: we just wrapped up long term PLANNING, we mapped out readiness standards and when we would teach things... weekly we will collaborate on the best way to teach our kids #txed
A3: we do follow our district calendar for when standards are taught, but full autonomy for the engaging portion, which is when we see greatness, I believe! #TXed#EdLeadership#EDUchat

A3 honestly, our 3rd grade math team collaborates every day. How’d that go? Do we need more time? Your kids got it? How’d you teach it? Why are they still not getting this? Is there another way we could show them ___? Constantly talking and adapting. #TXed
A3) TEKS, district pacing guide and curriculum planner are what we follow. We are learning how to implement formative assessments to drive our day to day instruction paired with @lead4ward blueprints/standard identification to really hone our instruction. #TXed
A3: @katyisd provides a CAG (curriculum at a glance) for every grade/content area. It tell us when & how long units are. From there we have unit plans, with TEKS, critical vocab, examples of representations to be used, resources at our disposal. ICs plan with teams too #txed
We can. It just takes a commitment by those involved. Sometimes they don’t see how it really would help them during the year. “Championships are won in the off-season.” #TXed

I'll add that we have the flexibility to include intermission lessons to support our students as needed. We also have flexibility to slow down if needed.

Yes, @PrincipalOgg ...if we could magically stretch time many of the issues with education would disappear...figuring out what is/not working should be the focus but usually gets left out with "what TEKS are coming?" #mvecares#TxEd
A3-Sometimes I wish we could front load a little more before the school year starts. This way we can collaborate more on what is and what is not working. #TXed
#txed A3 Year goal = mastery of the TEKS. There should be a group of Trs in each district figuring out the scope and sequence of the order to teach the TEKS. IMO... Great Trs will develop invigorating lessons to teach each TEKS.
#txed A3 pt 2 Each Tr will have different Ss with different needs. IMO Leeway needs to be given to Trs to develop the lessons their kids need. I create most of the curriculum each year to teach my Ss. Check out the resources at

A3: we spend countless hours creating schedules that maximize instructional minutes. We incorporate Lead4ward strategies into the scopes and sequences and provide outstanding Instructional Coaches for support. #TXed
A3: I believe the district organizes which skills should be taught in a logical sequence so they can build upon each other. Basic lessons are provided but The district relies on relaying info/ideas to teachers through a trickle down system via specialists. #txed
A4: our team does a great job on sharing what worked and didn’t, with each other! We also have our coaches sitting in meetings to provide support & we collaborate on our planning regularly. #TXed#EdLeadership#EDUchat
We offer "BUs" PDs where we can attend and learn more about a strategy/best practice, etc. We also have demonstration classrooms to learn from our colleagues. In my current role as a consulting teacher I am able to work with teachers to model lessons and observe as well. #txed
A4) my teams love learningfrom one another! Each team has a goal and we arrange opportunities to visit other teams or classrooms that would help them learn and grow with their identified goal. We also have a pineapple chart going for individual learning opportunities! #txed
#txed A4 Great Trs SHARE their resources and experience. That's why I am posting most of my curriculum for FREE! It's all about making the kids better. If my curriculum helps a kid in the panhandle learn how to factor #MorePowerhttps://t.co/izUfcj5i6w
A4-We got to leave the egos at the door and look at what is best for kids and not ourselves. If something is working for you, it is your moral obligation to share it with other. Just as it is your moral obligations to use ideas from others that might actually help your Ss. #TXed
A4 I think the key is that we all care that the kids are successful by showing growth and enjoy what they are doing. We try to keep them moving, motivated, and challenged. If we all have the same goals we know we have to work together. #TXed
@vhsaldana has always encouraged teachers to visit each others classrooms. Only steal the good ideas. The best ideas are from those in the building with us. #TXed
A4: @googledrive is a game changer! We look at @lead4ward docs, we model for each other, talk about stations, small group resources, the questions we need to ask; but FIRST of all, purple big people need to know we need their input & that we make decisions based on our kids #txed
#txed A4 True story "Mr. Toups, I moved to Nashville, TN last year, and we used your videos to help us learn Algebra." This is why you should share your resources. ITS ALL ABOUT THE KIDS #AlwaysBelieve
A4 by creating a safe environment where we share what works and what didn’t work and we talk through success and work to make things even better TOGETHER. #txed
@vhsaldana has always encouraged teachers to visit each others classrooms. Only steal the good ideas. The best ideas are from those in the building with us. #TXed
A5: leave ego behind. It’s not about the teacher it’s about students. Share, respect, listen, discuss and plan with the students in mind. Its a team effort. Create a #dreamteam#txed
A5) Time! While time is precious, you have to carve out more. We are also developing protocols to follow for all the various reasons we collaborate on our campus. Different situations call for different questions/agendas. #txed
A5: leave ego behind. It’s not about the teacher it’s about students. Share, respect, listen, discuss and plan with the students in mind. Its a team effort. Create a #dreamteam#txed
A5: I think trust is essential to effective planning and collaboration. Also, teachers struggle with time due to the requirements and demands on them. How could we create some time—significant planning/collaborating time? #TXed
A3 My district has a planning committee per subject and gets teacher input on topics across every level. It’s nice when you have a say in what you do. We also have a curriculum calendar. #txed
Being proactive in creating a plan to schedule in the time for teachers to collaborate.Perhaps in waves or rotations.A plan to collaborate smarter, not harder!I don't have the formula, but I'd love to know if a district out there has this down.Collaboration at all levels. #txed
#txed A5 When you KNOW who your coworkers are and DEVELOP trust. When young Trs RESPECT the knowledge of veteran Trs. These are huge. Key component, a shared interest for the KIDS. Just for fun... I got my yearbook picture today! Mr. Toups NAILS IT!
A5: leave ego behind. It’s not about the teacher it’s about students. Share, respect, listen, discuss and plan with the students in mind. Its a team effort. Create a #dreamteam#txed
A5 I wish more best practices, models and strategies were built into our docs. We spend a large amount a time looking for examples so that we don’t leave anything important out. #txed
Off to bed I go- thank you all for the wonderful exchange of ideas. I love growing my PLN on this platform & look forward to learning alongside everyone! #EDUchat#EdLeadership#TXed
A6-Important life skills that our kids must learn about. They need to understand the importance of planning out their goals and dreams. Collaboration is going to be a major task for them after they graduate. We all need help in the real world. #TXed
#txed A6 My TEKS are posted on my front wall in my room. I put the TEKS on the problems I create for my Ss to learn. Often I will read the TEKS to the kids and they can visually see how the problem matches the TEKS. The assignment becomes real. They get why they are doing it.
Students can learn in the collaboration process from one another. More student led over teacher led opportunities. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing students take the lead in conversations during rich meaningful lessons.
#txed
A6: Once teachers realize that true brilliance comes from children who problem solve by working together, their jobs become more rewarding and they will experience more successful (and more productive) students. #TXed
A6) planning & collaboration are real life skills. If we teach kids about goal setting,we can begin 2 work on how 2 take steps & plan for future success. We need 2 do a great job of tching active listening & how 2 have quality conversations for effective collaborations. #txed
Planning accordingly is a life skill. Collaboration, having respect, open-mindedness, and determination to reach goals AS A GROUP makes you a dangerous work force competitor.*Just because you always have an answer doesn’t mean you always have the BEST answer.*#TXed
A6: Once teachers realize that true brilliance comes from children who problem solve by working together, their jobs become more rewarding and they will experience more successful (and more productive) students. #TXed
Before y’all all leave. I ask that y’all all go and vote!! I ask that you do a little research and vote PRO Public Education. 🤗🤗. Tell all your friends and family to do the same. #Vote#TXed
A6 Our students are our greatest feedback. Giving them opportunities to collaborate and tell us what they want to see in the future is a great goal. #txed
I've just taught my Ss how to read #TEKS and assess their own test data so they can plan for their own learning. They have the opportunity to cross collaborate with students struggling w/the same TEKS or find a peer who is strong where they need support. #TXed
A6 Planning helps students take ownership of their academic success and be intentional about their own growth. Collaboration helps students deepen understanding, build confidence, see things through other lenses, and learn the value of working together. #txed
When you finally try to participate in your first #TXed chat and your phone shuts off to install updates you scheduled after putting it off for days...
