Interested in student-driven classrooms? Join Dr. Nancy Sulla @nsulla (author of Students Taking Charge, Its Not What You Teach But How, Building Executive Function: The Missing Link to Student Achievement, and more) and educators from all over in #LATICchat on Thursday nights at 8pm ET. We hope to bring together a community of educators to share insights, stories, examples, pictures from their classrooms, and more. We welcome all educators to join; no need to be running a #LATIC classroom.
A1. It’s a life skill for problem solving that will benefit them- for fixing the kitchen sink, in a technical trade, or for an academic purpose. It works everywhere #LATICchat
#LATICchat I love it when students are comfortable to take risks and verbalize their thinking. Design Process gives them a tool to keep in their back pockets.
A2. Ss need more opportunities to engage in divergent questions. Convergent questions could be used as a warm up, but the divergent thinking is what we should celebrate. #LATICchat
And now these kids have been in LATIC classes for years! The research , design and real world applications of their displays were off the charts! #LATICchat

A3 empathy is the ability to walk in someone else's shoes. In the design process, it's the ability to see someone else's solution as viable and even allow their thinking to shape your own #LATICchat

A4: This speaks to why audience is so important in real-world problem finding & solution design in school. Designers have to consider ALL end users, not just the average in order to be successful. Ss who learn that IN SCHOOL head out to the world prepared to change it! #LATICchat

A4 empathy allows us to push ourselves to see that everyone has a voice and a place in the lesson. It's kids seeing themselves in the resources that use, reaching for their dreams and being part of a bigger whole that problem based learning supports. #LATICchat
I love when the 'problem' student becomes the 'problem solver'. It demonstrates that even the most hesitant student can get deeply involved in #designthinking#laticChat

So true! When a student experiences a #FeltNeed to learn through a problem they care about, the learning is set in motion and there is no stopping that momentum. #LATICchat
I used to host an #innovation fair that had to include a prototype of their idea. One student came up with the best model toilet paper holder with 6 rolls. He was the only boy with 6 sisters. Proving #innovation comes from necessity. #laticChat
A6 I think home groups, SGMLS, even have a benchmark to trigger awareness about the process. I think the more you embed it into your classroom vernacular the more the kids will use it. #LATICchat
A6) I wonder if students could use design process to rethink a "Help Board" -- how do students in the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom exhaust all avenues in getting help. #LATICchat
