If you have EVER asked your ss - "Are you listening? THEN this post is for you. I hear you and am truly "listening" to your written word, Oskar. @focus2achieve And so amazed how you are able to channel needs of ss/tchrs #engagechat#PLN365#TOSAchat
#pln365 it is time to get the team together. Remember tonight I will provide the answers using A1) A2)... and you will provide the questions using Q1) Q2)...
First time on #pln365....but already excited about the format! I'm Lucy from South Texas Where it has been burning hot this week 🔥 - Ed Consultant/PD Agent
A1 What is sometimes we have to embrace conflict, face uncomfortable conversations, or make changes that may not be well received, but it is how we make progress #pln365
Kim from Maui, Hawaii - looking forward to the super powers of #pln365 showing up. Is that a bird, a plane no wait , wait it is @D4Griffin3 about to blast thru.
A1 Leaders can glean from their difficulties just like students and takeaway something new for another day. Whether it’s a mindset shift or different view. It’s a shift in perspective. #pln365
Like the note here on productive struggle. Imperative that leaders are able to frame difficulty as an opportunity for our team to address areas of improvement, so that we can strengthen our support for Ss #pln365
A1 eeesh !! The uncomfortable conversations are the ones we grow from .... when we listen with our heart in those .. we can learn. When you talk, you are saying something already know, if you listen, to hear, you may Learn something new. #pln365
Q1) What is the best way to resolve a conflict? Teach Ss to look and listen. Leaders form their own opinions based on listening and observing. Using the mouth disproportionately leads to unhealthy conflict and not positive change and growth. #PLN365
Q1: Most of us have a strong, visceral reaction to conflict, including (but not limited to) fear, avoidance, excitement and/or dread. So where do leaders start when they want to understand the conflict styles of themselves and others? #PLN365
How do we empower each other to be leaders in our respective roles? What’s it look like in different roles? Who are the point peeps to guide us? To engage in meaningful, ongoing feedback? What do we do w/that feedback for the betterment of all? #pln365
Q2- Why should you speak up when you see a teacher is struggling? Why should you ALWAYS be a teacher leader, even when you don’t carry a title? #pln365
Like the note here on productive struggle. Imperative that leaders are able to frame difficulty as an opportunity for our team to address areas of improvement, so that we can strengthen our support for Ss #pln365
Absolutely! And then you have to also wonder if they are just agreeing in words or also in action. Lip service means nothing if best practice isn’t being followed. #pln365
Q2- Why should you speak up when you see a teacher is struggling? Why should you ALWAYS be a teacher leader, even when you don’t carry a title? #pln365
Q1: Most of us have a strong, visceral reaction to conflict, including (but not limited to) fear, avoidance, excitement and/or dread. So where do leaders start when they want to understand the conflict styles of themselves and others? #PLN365
A2~ How will you advocate for your Ss & their families? Tell us how you honor diversity and what this means to you ...will you stand alone when standing for what is right & just? What might that look like? #PLN365
How do we empower each other to be leaders in our respective roles? What’s it look like in different roles? Who are the point peeps to guide us? To engage in meaningful, ongoing feedback? What do we do w/that feedback for the betterment of all? #pln365
#pln365 Argumentation is a good thing. It strengthens our resolve and helps us focus on what is important. It also helps us see the other side of things, alternative points of view- this helps us grow and get a better understanding of the world
Q3 How can we best advocate/champion for students with special needs, limitations? How can we help them advocate for themselves as independent learners? #pln365
Q2) What is the definition of a teacher (or just a caring human being)? Advocating for those that can't or won't advocate for themselves. Set the example and they will learn to advocate for themselves or for others. #PLN365
A3) How can you as a leader empower your staff and Ss to push beyond the status quo and break through the glass ceilings so that they can begin to experience learning at new levels never imagined? #pln365
Q3 What does Growth Mindset mean to you in the context of educational and social inequities appear on every side? And, how can you define this for your students? #PLN365
A3 What is "put one foot in front of the other?" As I blasted this song today and danced around with some Ss as they came in, it was fun and much needed! #pln365
This is why I work so hard on teaching my students to disagree and dialogue in a respectful and productive way that focuses on solutions and active listening. And they are in kindergarten. Imagine if we could all do that! Solution driven, respectful dialogue 👊🏻 #pln365
#pln365 Social justice is integrated with personal identity/ self-confidence. Our vision of ourselves is built on how we view the world & our place in it. Navigation of discourse is important. Being able to listen & understand the conversation is key to understanding ourselves
The qualifier is “productive.” Ego must be pushed aside. Listen to opposing views to see where everyone is coming from and how to move forward. #pln365
Q2- Why should you speak up when you see a teacher is struggling? Why should you ALWAYS be a teacher leader, even when you don’t carry a title? #pln365
A1:I think my leaders do a better job at this than I do- a leader must meet their staff where they are and help them figure out how to get closer to where they want to me. I have a hard time accepting anything less than other’s best. And this is why I am not admin!! #pln365
Q3 What is your bedtime after turning in lesson plans, attending all 25 meetings this week, tutoring for all 8 days, visiting every PLC, and making time for family, health, and fun? #PLN365
A3 My super power is patience (most of the time 🤣) Working with teachers who are often new to technology requires you to be patient and understanding. #pln365
#pln365 All we can do is create a safe haven for communication and opinion- an arena for conversation no matter how uncomfortable- if students feel safe to share they will- we as teachers are moderators and should let the discussion happen as organically as possible
#pln365 A1 If I substitute the word conflict for problem or situation to solve, people would be all for it. We all need strategies to solve conflicts/problems/situations, it is a reality and something I know I could do with more of. #ProblemSolvers#learning#stucentclass
Q2: What do educators say to themselves when they look in the mirror everyday? How do educators respond to people when asked- why did you become a teacher? #PLN365
A3: Good question. Hard to answer if you're not in the right mindset, which gets to the heart of the question. Clear minds make better decisions. #pln365
Creating a safe haven is key. I also love to see when Ts create digital spaces for kids that have ideas but are reluctant to share initially in real time feeling the eyes of the world on them. #pln365
Q2: What is my job as an ESL Specialist? Is it simply to teach ELs, or is it to be an advocate for those emergent bilinguals who struggle with linguistic, cultural, and social identities as they navigate through their complex life? #pln365
#pln365 I look at the goals I set as more as endurance based not unattainable in scope- if I design the marker as just out of reach not out of realm my students build the step stool on their own knowing the found is solid below
Q4: If we don't take risks and learn from our failures and overcoming fears, how can we teach our students to do the same? How can we set an example, if we are afraid? #pln365
#pln365 I see a growth mindset as ever expanding- pushing boundaries- flowing outward with no end in sight- it is both the willingness to see empty space ahead, and the motivation and determination to cross the vastness of knowledge
Hello, living in Australia, tutoring awesome kids. I am fairly new on Twitter but seem to be liking and retweeting a lot of stuff from @NowakRo so shout out to him for #kindnessmatters and #kidsdeserve it, which are both core values in my teaching. #pln365
Apparently it’s bad to be late to this party. I am so lost, lol!!! Why do I still feel like I don’t really understand Twitter when I chat at least 3 times a week, lol #pln365
#pln365 Most say hard work. But I think it a combination of talent, having the right connections and opportunities and the instinct of when to take chances
Q4 Why do you stay awake at night looking forward to the adversity of another day? What can be accomplished with the healthy fear of doubt in yourself? #PLN365
A4) What does it take to make great things happen for our staff and students? Why is it not enough to just show up? Why must we put good intentions into action? #PLN365#40CFPLN
I always ask why.Why shouldn’t we support another T when we see something that isn’t best practice? If we truly are better together then giving a support to another makes me, other Ts,Ss,our school, our WORLD https://t.co/RzwyapBfl5 it tough?Sure, but our future is worth it! #pln365
In my mind leadership is way more than a title. It is doing the right hong when no one is watching, when there is no reward, when it is uncomfortable. In education the right thing is ALWAYS what’s best for our littles #pln365
Q4: If we don't take risks and learn from our failures and overcoming fears, how can we teach our students to do the same? How can we set an example, if we are afraid? #pln365
Q4: How do teachers model risk taking and overcoming struggles with our students? What are Ts and Ss most afraid about when encountering the unknown? #PLN365
Q4) What is growth? The greatest growth takes place when you stretch outside your comfort zone. "If you don't change you will become extinct." Spencer Johnson #PLN365#whomovedmycheese
How i feel about this superhero themed #pln365 this morning. Education + superheroes? What a great start to my day!
(In case y’all needed s reminder of how much I love superhero’s)
I agree! It all comes down to whether we are doing what's best for the team and the students, or whether we have other hidden motives (e.g. there is an opening for department chair next year...). #pln365
WOW!!! What a great #pln365 tonight. So many amazing insights and thoughts! Thanks everyone for sharing of your time. Thanks @PaulONeill1972 & @D4Griffin3 for the opportunity
I wish you said something. I would have definitely loved to chat with you. Okay! We have to place on the To Do List for the next big NJ event. I believe it is @EdcampNJ in November, unless if you’re going to #ISTE18. #PLN365

Make sure to model that the risk is worth the effort. Show them the ground is soft and you are there to support the leap, the stumble and the successes! #PLN365
I would say we have to do both. I advocate for all my Ss (especially my Sped Ss), but I also teach them how to advocate for themselves. Sometimes, the adults chose to ignore the Ss and that is where I come in. #pln365
#pln365 q4 a4 What would inspire you to quit your job and go back to study?!
Oh go and feel the fear and do it anyway
#career#teacherlife Time to shake it up. #philosophy
Make EVERY day count and make it sweeter than the beginning.
I also tell myself it is okay to pick up dinner for most of those nights, exhausting #pln365
Maybe that’s why I couldn’t see her. I didn’t have any clearance or VIP status for any #rockstars. I haven’t been in the education game long enough. So I will keep striving Michele. Hopefully, I’ll be able to shake your hands in a few years. #PLN365

I teach newcomer ELLs and SIFE. I always tell them that I will be their voice for now, but before we learn content, they will learn to have voices of their own. And then I'll be their partners in advocating. #pln365
There was NO cryptonite here- just a lot of shape shifting & harnessing of energy from #PLN365 crew. You were awesome @D4Griffin3-having us "move" our thinking and out of the same flight pattern to flip it ! #tlap#PLN365
A1 Conflicts that are out in the open are able to be solved or at least dealt with somewhat. Often times there are conflicts underneath the surface that just simmer and then boil over, but when conflict is on the table, it can be resolved in a respectful manner #PLN365
Iʻm sensing my "answer" by ?/ response was taken the wrong way!. #PLN365 I was responding to the A3 (see below) I try to make EVERY moment count. I tell myself... I can do this AND more.
