Hope you've all had a great start to the New Year! Let's start off 2019 with a great #TXHSFBCHAT! Answer all the Qs, follow coaches, engage, learn, and of course, use the hashtag in every tweet!
A1: mine was Texas running an rpo with the G/T pulling and throwing it to the side they came from. The numbers advantage was set up also with the H back coming out to block for the screen. #TXHSFBCHAT
Can’t think of one play in particular but there were some backshoulders to the front pylon that were pretty nasty this bowl season. So hard to defend. #TXHSFBCHAT
I got some old old footage from a HS game in San Francisco in 1946 and Texas stuff last nigh was very similar. No RPO's but everything else was very similar #TXHSFBCHAT
Once again, can’t remember who it was, but someone was able to consistently create pressure rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage. Pretty tough. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: I thought Texas did a great job of getting pressure, but more than anything they were physical and put Georgia to 3 and long situations. I’m an odd front guy so seeing them be success is great. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: Texas did a good job of stopping Georgias run game and making them one dimensional and then still able to get pressure without bringing tons of guys #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: My bias is showing, but I liked the Texas scheme. Orlando is a 3-3 guy, but they went with a lot of 4 down fronts and found the gaps to create pressure and create turnovers. #TXHSFBCHAT
JJ Jennings OL/TE/DL #FreeAgent in the process of moving to Texas to coach the 2019 season. Really trying to connect to other coaches and building my network in the Lone Star Stare #TXHSFBCHAT
I would have to agree. Todd Orlando completely befuddled Georgia's pass protection schemes all night and had them blocking air while unblocked defenders crushed the QB. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: I look for what the offense does as the field shortens, do they change their play calls, or keep going with what got them in scoring position? Things like that #TXHSFBCHAT
A3-seems everyone runs the same offense these days. H power, H lead, H counter, rpo zones.
Bbbuuutttt. Army has my heart right now because they ID what tech the D is using then calls off that. They shredded people this year. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Dont overthink things or try to get too complicated. Army scored 70 only running a handful of plays. Get really good at a few plays that your guys can do at a high level and go play. #txhsfbchat
Coaches finding a variety of ways to put the ball in the hands of their best players. Aggressive play calls on 4th down (i.e. Texas going for it from the GL up 20-6 in 4th qtr).
#TXHSFBCHAT
A3: I thought it was interesting what some of the teams tried to do when they got into shootouts with Big 12 teams. Obviously that’s a comfort zone for the Big 12 teams so you could usually tell who was gonna freeze up. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Stanford did a fantastic job of situational awareness in getting first downs and killing the clock instead of scoring and allowing Pitt a chance. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: similarities of everyone's offensive schemes, how quickly teams give up on the run when behind but not out of it, more defenses "Stemming" & too much man to man for me #TXHSFBCHAT
Coaches, I will have my own private suite across from the convention at AFCA 7th - 10th demonstrating my VAR virtual reality and air raid system.
Email me at halmumme@var.systems to stop by!
I liked seeing which teams looked comfortable in high-leverage situations (2 min, Redzone, etc.) and which looked out of sorts. Reinforces practicing those situations every week. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I can tell the culture is a nice one, if the players are playing the game and taking it seriously like if it was a legit playoff game. Players getting hyped on the sidelines. Coaches coaching the game to win. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4-that nobody has buy in like Army except maybe bama or Clemson. But id still give army the edge. Kinda goes with the type of kid they get.... #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I like watching the way Texas celebrates on the sideline. I like watching the way teams circle the wagons if their coach left them. Tells me a lot about what they feel for each other and the togetherness of the team #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: the headset throwing debate has been interesting for us #DinosaurFBCoaches to follow, I have my opinions. Army's culture looks great but they were winning big, was impressed with Oklahoma after the loss #TXHSFBCHAT
A4 people complain that there are too many Bowl games, but you can really see how much it means to those teams to get to play in those games. The extra weeks of practice and extra game are beneficial in building towards next season #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Defensive coaches are countering the offensive RPO attacks with more stemming and blitzing. Defensive coaches adjusting to tempo offenses by limiting substitutions.

As a UF guy, I was really proud of the unselfish Srs who played in the bowl game, which was important to help get the program going after having some struggles in recent yrs. They didn't have to play, but they knew how much the game meant and it was a big win 4 them #txhsfbchat
Definitely! I like what @coachbillcurry said about wondering how those seniors can look at their teammates when they sit out. You definitely know where the team ranks for the guys who choose to play the bowl game #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I went to a bowl practice about 15 yrs ago of a team in a New Year's bowl game and I was shocked at the amount of profanity and overall lack of discipline. Not surprisingly, that team has not been to a New Yr's bowl since then. #txhsfbchat
A5: I went and researched the top scoring defenses and run defenses within a 12 hour drive and 4-3. They were all bowl teams or successful programs. Also gave me teams to watch. #txhsfbchat
A4) Player interactions with the coaches when they come off the field, good or bad. Body language on the sideline from both coaches and players.
#TXHSFBCHAT
A5; Not much at all , I am a #RuralHSFBCoach we prefer to learn from programs at HS level with similar athletes! Like @CoachCamCox said enjoy family time watching ball 7 do not second guess or think we could do it better #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: It helps me identify teams who do things we can easily work in to the team, but it also shows me guys I want to listen to about how they work and lead their kids. Directs more book buying than actual clinic settings #TXHSFBCHAT
Great chat! Coaches always come away with something when watching football! Make sure you show your thanks and follow @justplayfb and all that they can do for your program #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: How each team finishes through the whistle, whether it be O or D. The OL blocking through the whistle and a defense that looks like they get 8-10 hats on the ball. #TXHSFBCHAT
