Cody Gardner DC/RB/LB Park City, UT #txhsfbchat
  • CoachAdams9 Jan 2 @ 9:18 PM EST
A1: mine was Texas running an rpo with the G/T pulling and throwing it to the side they came from. The numbers advantage was set up also with the H back coming out to block for the screen. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:19 PM EST
A1: I really don't have a certain play, but the way Army dismantled Houston was pretty awesome to watch. I enjoy his take on the flexbone #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachNickYork Jan 2 @ 9:19 PM EST
Can’t think of one play in particular but there were some backshoulders to the front pylon that were pretty nasty this bowl season. So hard to defend. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CODY_GARDNER Jan 2 @ 9:19 PM EST
A1)I think its called "Victory" but under center, of course. #txhsfbchat
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:20 PM EST
Q2: What has been the best defensive scheme you've seen this bowl season? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • OpenCrossPlant Jan 2 @ 9:21 PM EST
Grady Breen, QB/DBs, South Carroll HS, Sykesville, MD #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CODY_GARDNER Jan 2 @ 9:21 PM EST
    A2)Clemson. They had a nice night. #txhsfbchat
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:21 PM EST
I got some old old footage from a HS game in San Francisco in 1946 and Texas stuff last nigh was very similar. No RPO's but everything else was very similar #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @CoachAdams9
  • CoachNickYork Jan 2 @ 9:22 PM EST
Once again, can’t remember who it was, but someone was able to consistently create pressure rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage. Pretty tough. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:23 PM EST
He has really added some interesting stuff, I've been watching since he was at SLO before Army. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • CoachWilliams02 Jan 2 @ 9:23 PM EST
A1: Very impressed with how army dismantled Houston not a specific play that stood out just how they executed #txhsfbchat
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • NickStro66 Jan 2 @ 9:24 PM EST
A1 A&M did some great stuff in the running game that I really enjoyed. Definitely going to need some more film on it #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:25 PM EST
A2; Best Scheme #BAMA Best Personnel #Clemson Best Combination goes to #Clemson #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachAdams9 Jan 2 @ 9:25 PM EST
A2: I thought Texas did a great job of getting pressure, but more than anything they were physical and put Georgia to 3 and long situations. I’m an odd front guy so seeing them be success is great. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • cvancleave09 Jan 2 @ 9:26 PM EST
A2: Loved watched Miss St D. Even though they took the L. Solid D! #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachWilliams02 Jan 2 @ 9:27 PM EST
A2: Texas did a good job of stopping Georgias run game and making them one dimensional and then still able to get pressure without bringing tons of guys #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:28 PM EST
MSU Bulldogs always good it seems #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @cvancleave09
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:28 PM EST
A2: My bias is showing, but I liked the Texas scheme. Orlando is a 3-3 guy, but they went with a lot of 4 down fronts and found the gaps to create pressure and create turnovers. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:29 PM EST
JJ Jennings OL/TE/DL #FreeAgent in the process of moving to Texas to coach the 2019 season. Really trying to connect to other coaches and building my network in the Lone Star Stare #TXHSFBCHAT
  • BamaWaldo Jan 2 @ 9:29 PM EST
Hard to beat what Texas did to UGA pass pro last night. Close 2nd would have to be the different ways Bama held Murray/OU in check. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
Q3: Besides plays, what have you learned or taken note of how the coaches call the game and their overall/situational strategy? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
Gotta stop a Strong Run Game with 4 down JMHO, they did an incredible job and evidence we need a 8 team playoff #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
A1: That Nick Fitzgerald run for Miss St, was pretty sick #TXHSFBCHAT
  • thecoachvogt Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
A2- BAMA. Always gap sound. And contain sound. Hard to argue with that. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • Coach_DeMarco Jan 2 @ 9:31 PM EST
Tebow like run game from Sam Ehlinger of Texas. 4 straight runs on the goaline. Tough dude. Also like RPOs off counter action. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • coach_thomas8 Jan 2 @ 9:31 PM EST
a2) I am biased to the scheme but Mich state did a pretty good job shutting down Oregon... #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:32 PM EST
A2: the University of Texas really showed out. Michigan State had a nice gameplan too #TXHSFBCHAT
  • BarryHoover Jan 2 @ 9:32 PM EST
I would have to agree. Todd Orlando completely befuddled Georgia's pass protection schemes all night and had them blocking air while unblocked defenders crushed the QB. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @BamaWaldo
  • 23adamoneill Jan 2 @ 9:32 PM EST
A3: Motions especially jet motions make life difficult for defenses to keep disciplined #TXHSFBCHAT
    • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
Q3: Besides plays, what have you learned or taken note of how the coaches call the game and their overall/situational strategy? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST
Late to the party! Freddy Gonzalez, Former Defensive Coordinator and current free agent, Socorro,TX. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST
A3: I look for what the offense does as the field shortens, do they change their play calls, or keep going with what got them in scoring position? Things like that #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST
Agreed! I think layoff hurts offenses though for everyone - but Army LOL #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @coach_thomas8, @txhsfbchat
  • thecoachvogt Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST
A3-seems everyone runs the same offense these days. H power, H lead, H counter, rpo zones. Bbbuuutttt. Army has my heart right now because they ID what tech the D is using then calls off that. They shredded people this year. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachWilliams02 Jan 2 @ 9:34 PM EST
A3: Dont overthink things or try to get too complicated. Army scored 70 only running a handful of plays. Get really good at a few plays that your guys can do at a high level and go play. #txhsfbchat
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • Coach_DeMarco Jan 2 @ 9:34 PM EST
Coaches finding a variety of ways to put the ball in the hands of their best players. Aggressive play calls on 4th down (i.e. Texas going for it from the GL up 20-6 in 4th qtr). #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • CoachAdams9 Jan 2 @ 9:34 PM EST
A3: those guys are good with situational defense. Taking away what the offense wants to do. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:34 PM EST
Really hoping to make a 40 year + coaching career like @mt_stjohn so far I’m 4 years down #TXHSFBCHAT
  • NickStro66 Jan 2 @ 9:35 PM EST
A3 a lot of questionable fake punts. I was impressed with how teams adjusted with some of their star players sitting out #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachNickYork Jan 2 @ 9:36 PM EST
A3: I thought it was interesting what some of the teams tried to do when they got into shootouts with Big 12 teams. Obviously that’s a comfort zone for the Big 12 teams so you could usually tell who was gonna freeze up. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachDuhon Jan 2 @ 9:36 PM EST
A3: Stanford did a fantastic job of situational awareness in getting first downs and killing the clock instead of scoring and allowing Pitt a chance. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:37 PM EST
A3: Little bit more aggressive. I can defenitly tell when a team used the bowl game as a week vacation instead a week to prepare #TXHSFBCHAT
    • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
Q3: Besides plays, what have you learned or taken note of how the coaches call the game and their overall/situational strategy? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:39 PM EST
A3: similarities of everyone's offensive schemes, how quickly teams give up on the run when behind but not out of it, more defenses "Stemming" & too much man to man for me #TXHSFBCHAT
    • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:30 PM EST
Q3: Besides plays, what have you learned or taken note of how the coaches call the game and their overall/situational strategy? #TXHSFBCHAT

  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:40 PM EST
Q4: What can you tell of a team's culture while watching each game? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • coachdober Jan 2 @ 9:42 PM EST
I liked seeing which teams looked comfortable in high-leverage situations (2 min, Redzone, etc.) and which looked out of sorts. Reinforces practicing those situations every week. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • Trench_CoachJJ Jan 2 @ 9:42 PM EST
A4: I can tell the culture is a nice one, if the players are playing the game and taking it seriously like if it was a legit playoff game. Players getting hyped on the sidelines. Coaches coaching the game to win. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • thecoachvogt Jan 2 @ 9:42 PM EST
A4-that nobody has buy in like Army except maybe bama or Clemson. But id still give army the edge. Kinda goes with the type of kid they get.... #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A4: I like watching the way Texas celebrates on the sideline. I like watching the way teams circle the wagons if their coach left them. Tells me a lot about what they feel for each other and the togetherness of the team #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A4: the headset throwing debate has been interesting for us #DinosaurFBCoaches to follow, I have my opinions. Army's culture looks great but they were winning big, was impressed with Oklahoma after the loss #TXHSFBCHAT
  • NickStro66 Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A4 people complain that there are too many Bowl games, but you can really see how much it means to those teams to get to play in those games. The extra weeks of practice and extra game are beneficial in building towards next season #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A3) Defensive coaches are countering the offensive RPO attacks with more stemming and blitzing. Defensive coaches adjusting to tempo offenses by limiting substitutions. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • BarryHoover Jan 2 @ 9:45 PM EST
As a UF guy, I was really proud of the unselfish Srs who played in the bowl game, which was important to help get the program going after having some struggles in recent yrs. They didn't have to play, but they knew how much the game meant and it was a big win 4 them #txhsfbchat
  • coach_thomas8 Jan 2 @ 9:46 PM EST
a4) body language and personal fouls tell the story...Alabama was disappointing in both areas...Clemson might give them a run #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:48 PM EST
Definitely! I like what @coachbillcurry said about wondering how those seniors can look at their teammates when they sit out. You definitely know where the team ranks for the guys who choose to play the bowl game #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @BarryHoover, @coachbillcurry
  • BarryHoover Jan 2 @ 9:49 PM EST
A4: I went to a bowl practice about 15 yrs ago of a team in a New Year's bowl game and I was shocked at the amount of profanity and overall lack of discipline. Not surprisingly, that team has not been to a New Yr's bowl since then. #txhsfbchat
  • Coach_Stone_MT Jan 2 @ 9:49 PM EST
A4) I felt like Clemson was focus and ready when the kickoff started against ND #TXHSFBCHAT plus the Clemson QB was poise in the pocket for a Freshman

    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:50 PM EST
Q5: How do the bowl games direct who you seek out to learn from in clinics or reaching out to during the off-season? #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:50 PM EST
Kid from Kentucky summed it up best #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat, @BarryHoover, @coachbillcurry
  • CoachV_OHS Jan 2 @ 9:52 PM EST
A2: Mich St how they handled Oregon’s offense the other day. #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • BarryHoover Jan 2 @ 9:53 PM EST
Yes, that was a HUGE game for that program. #txhsfbchat

  • cvancleave09 Jan 2 @ 9:53 PM EST
A5: I went and researched the top scoring defenses and run defenses within a 12 hour drive and 4-3. They were all bowl teams or successful programs. Also gave me teams to watch. #txhsfbchat
  • coach_thomas8 Jan 2 @ 9:53 PM EST
A5) q4 plays the biggest roll... culture>scheme... always looking for the best ways to create buy in #TXHSFBCHAT
    In reply to @txhsfbchat
  • thecoachvogt Jan 2 @ 9:54 PM EST
A5- They don’t. I look for who had less talent... but still won all season. That’s who I wanna sit with. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • elbigfred Jan 2 @ 9:54 PM EST
A4) Player interactions with the coaches when they come off the field, good or bad. Body language on the sideline from both coaches and players. #TXHSFBCHAT
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:54 PM EST
A5; Not much at all , I am a #RuralHSFBCoach we prefer to learn from programs at HS level with similar athletes! Like @CoachCamCox said enjoy family time watching ball 7 do not second guess or think we could do it better #TXHSFBCHAT
  • txhsfbchat - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:55 PM EST
A5: It helps me identify teams who do things we can easily work in to the team, but it also shows me guys I want to listen to about how they work and lead their kids. Directs more book buying than actual clinic settings #TXHSFBCHAT
  • CoachV_OHS Jan 2 @ 9:56 PM EST
A3: Offensively - Teams putting the ball in their best players hands.. Defensively - Teams do what they do and fly to the ball. #KISS #TXHSFBCHAT

A4: How each team finishes through the whistle, whether it be O or D. The OL blocking through the whistle and a defense that looks like they get 8-10 hats on the ball. #TXHSFBCHAT
