TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
A1. After 40 yrs in education, I thought for a long time about where to focus my energy on Twitter in some way that would benefit all educators - I decided on professional learning books. #tnedchat
A1: yes it’s important to keep up w/ current research & ideas but also important to read books not related to education in order to transfer ideas & examine other perspectives #TnEdChat
A1 Absolutely, we learn by reading and definitely from reading the stories of other educators, ever since reading #tlap a few summers ago, I started reading education books, before that, not at all #tnedchat
A1. I was writing a blog post and wanted to refer to books that were available about literacy instruction when I graduated. I was shocked to learn there weren't any! #tnedchat
A1 Absolutely!!! It is essential that teachers stay on top of their craft! Knowing the current confessions like conversations and trends in your connect is essential to you being on top of your game! #TnEdChat
A1- 100%. I add this to every interview. Want to know what teachers are reading to keep their craft on fire. Our calling is fueled by inspiration. What better way to stay inspired than to read? #tnedchat

A2 Hmmm... I'm currently in a school leadership program, so this question shouldn't be hard... I'm reading The New Principal Fieldbook... Not something I just picked up though... #TnEdChat
A2- I do honor and read traditional edu leader books, but I also love books like “The Only Way to Win” by Jim Loehr. I like to have a cache for teachers so that we can find one that resonates with that exact spot on their journey #tnedchat
A1 & A2: go to books depends on person & I’m the type who typically gets more out of in person presentations, convos, & chats...I like to read but I don’t always lean towards inspirational books #tnedchat
A3 Sometimes I just need a mental repositioning and Parker Palmer's Courage to Teach does that for me. Also, books by Clayton Christensen about blended learning are good stuff. #tnedchat
A3: While there are so many books and authors for professional learning that come to mind, I very strongly consider the ones that are posted on a social media, reviewed, or featured in a blog by my #PLN members. #tnedchat
A3.1: occasionally required to do a book study for work...several have been good but that’s not my first choice for learning. Personally, I bought innovators mindset BUT @gcouros was much more motivating & inspirational in person when I saw him @fetc & met him @iste#TnEdChat
A3 180 Days by @pennykittle and @KellyGToGo is also avbook I'm diving into currently! Helping my students ♥️ reading is my #1 goal! This title stood out because I only have 180! #tnedchat
Come to think of it...maybe it boils down to learning style bc I have edupeeps that get more out of reading a book than hearing a speaker but I’m the opposite #TNEdChat
A3: Now this is my question! Anything and everything YA and dystopian! Two favorites right now are Children of Blood and Bone and The Belles! Both also have beautiful covers! #tnedchat
These are all of the books that were selected during our poll - they are the top ten books out of 53, with 288 educators casting their votes. https://t.co/j8KekPlnVs#tnedchat
That's very interesting. Do you prefer audio books over reading text? Also, what is your preference for reflection? Do you write a blog, record a video, or tweet your favorite quotes? #tnedchat
Tried a couple of audio books & it wasn’t my cup o’tea. I find that I tend to only books & dive in when the reading interests me which is typically tech integration related. Most likely to tweet or chat about quotes #TnEdChat
A5: prayer & biblical passages are uplifting plus the wonderful, uplifting friends & family that God has blessed me with bc they build me up & inspire me #TnEdChat
You said something very interesting right there, @tntechgal: "... when the reading interests me." That speaks volumes, bc educators have to be mindful to seek Ss' interests, and try to make learning interesting (even when it's a stretch) for them. Easier said than done #tnedchat

A6 Hate that I’ve missed most of this convo! I def learn about great edu books from twitter and podcasts. Love the @dbc_inc and #hacklearning books. #TNEdChat
A6: Any blog, book, website, podcast, movement, conference, edcamp, leadership opportunity, grant, or professional learning resource that I have ever heard about in the last five years was via twitter. As a result, I'm reading more now than at any other time in my life. #tnedchat
A6. I save the graphics of books that people recommend for future #BookCampPD chats. Once I have a LONG list then we will have another survey so that educator choice and voice are used when selecting the Spring Focus top 10 books. #tnedchat Here are some of them.
