Hey #teachpos! This is Michael A. from #122edchat in Chicago. I am an award-winning #STEM Facilitator for @SmartLab_tweets from @Simmonsknights1. Two things motivate me: Yesterday. And my family. I know that they are counting on me to be my best.
Roman from Ontario, Canada. HS Teacher/Student Success Leader/Agent of Transformation. Great to join #teachpos chat tonight. My kids are my biggest motivation! They help me be a better teacher! Gotta love the filters! 😉
Good evening #teachpos! Eryka, HS ESL teacher. Looking for ways to move towards fully S-centered teaching, interested in getting Ss involved in community and thinking like entrepreneurs. Glad to be here!
A1 It all starts by building authentic and meaningful relationships with them. I strive to create a family in my classes. I learn of their passion; I include passions in learning. I am eccentric and go full in to all learning adventures. All about fun and learning. #teachpos
A1 Students need to see value in their work. The value begins with positive relationships. It is where intrinsic motivation comes from...caring enough to care... #teachpos
#Teachpos A1- You have to give them a reason to learn. Some kids are already there and are driven by goals in their future. Others really need help finding that place, depending on the age. Having those discussions early and often is important.
A1: I find that when you have a relationship with a student, respect and enthusiasm toward their efforts, they are more motivated to do well. #teachpos
#teachpos I don't motivate my Ss to do well. Every person wants to do well. I help them find the path from where they are towards success. I help them feel safe as they walk along that path. But they bring the motivation themselves. Always.
A1: I motivate my students by presenting them with high expectations and modifying the assignment to meet their individual needs. By giving them attainable goals, they begin to take pride in their work and start figuring out how to be even better next time. #TeachPos

A1: Show them that I care & more importantly believe in them. I get to know them & find things that I think will interest them. When we show we care, then we suggest something, they’re more likely to be motivated to do that. Lots of praise along the way is a plus! #teachPOS

A1 Everyday I am always in the hallways greeting my students and bringing all the energy I can into my teaching. If I show my Ss that I am having fun with what I teach it motivates them to try their best. Always building relationships! #Teachpos
I think you have a very big role in motivating them because you are starting with them. It’s just that you are so centered around them that you don’t see it as something you do. It’s awesome! #teachpos
My name's Megan and I teach science to ELs. I'm motivated each day by curiosity. Today, that involves participating in my first-ever Twitter chat! #teachpos
A1: I share segments of my story, one filled with disappointments, delays, and regret. I encourage them to examine all the details before "living in the moment" and doing something that they cannot buy back. Regret is a cruel mistress that can never be satisfied. #teachpos
A1: Ditch the ws, provide an active option for every lesson, point out the positives, even the micro ones, as it spurs them toward engagement & value and encourages them to want to continue to do well. #teachpos

A2 I stand beside them no matter what happens. Always try to find different ways to help support learning & understanding. I show them how I learn, fail and retry. I take risks and make sure I don’t ask them anything I wouldn’t do. I am a constant cheerleader. #teachpos
A2 By being present with your students and becoming a partner with them. When they see that you believe in them, they will believe in both of you. #teachpos

#Teachpos A2-Teaching is like a roller coaster. Ups and downs. Every year has its ebbs and flows. You need to embrace the process of learning and not get frustrated or negative. It is all part of shaping young minds. It is not an easy job, and you didn't sign up for an easy job.
A2 That is where the relationships come in. Times like this is the prefect time to stop and have a conversation Once a T asked me "whats going on in that head1?" Talk to Ss! #teachpos
A2: I usually pull the group together and get their feedback, give my feedback and then try again in a different way. When I am authentic in my concerns then they are more will to tackle the tough stuff. #teachpos
I like that you are leading the way to being vulnerable with them. It plays a huge place in trust and building a relationship with them. Inspiring! #teachpos

A2: you can’t show your ss you’re frustrated. I always reassure them that if they don’t get the content one way, there’s lots of other ways to learn it. When I see that my ss are getting frustrated, I have them do a quick brain break while I google other methods #teachpos
A2: We just need to keep maintaining a positive mental attitude until the final bell rings. As long as their is time on the clock, there is still hope. The more people that I can get to "buy-in" to that mentality, the easier the process is. #teachpos

A2: Talk about where the frustration lies & try and figure out a way to reflect on the situation, redirect and move on. I let them know that anything worth celebrating you have to be willing to work for. It may not be easy but it’s not impossible. #teachPOS
Q2 I get my “yes I can” mentality from my support systems. My wife and family have always supported me. Growing a #PLN on Twitter has also given me confidence that YES I CAN DO THIS! #teachpos

#teachpos If kids aren't getting my message, it's time to re-evaluate either my message or my delivery. I ask them what's missing....what can I do differently or better to support their success. Are there other obstacles that I don't know about?
When they know you have been in the battles, it is easier to trust someone and not repeat history. For those that do, we need to be willing to receive them when they "return back home". #teachpos
A2: Find out what makes them excited and find a way to make a connection. Don't ever teach "my way or the highway" and step out of the book or lesson at times when you see a lack of a connection. #teachpos
A2: Perseverance is key. Always on the lookout to find new interesting topics to address or ways to get through to them, but truth be told, we are dealing w/ humans and doesn’t always work. I go w/ the flow and see what might worm w/ them specifically. #teachpos
#teachpos I find that Ts who are not passionate about teaching are also not responsive to direct motivation and inspiration. Just be the example and let them figure it out. Or ask them if they are enjoying it.....and see where it leads.
A3: you have to lead by example. If other teachers see you putting in effort 365 days of the year, they will start to see that it is possible. Eventually, they will start coming up to you asking how you do it. That’s your chance to share your gift with other teachers. #teachpos
A2: When times are rough, or kids aren’t getting my message—I take a deep breath, reevaluate my message and/or lesson, include kids in the teaching, and go to my tribe that supports me and whom I know can help and, most importantly, keep me on my positive path. #TeachPos
A3 The best way to shine is to lead by example. Show others that even on down days, I give it 150% & never give up. I am also willing to help and support anyone willing to try. I will take any risk full on for the benefit of student learning. Be the difference. #teachpos
My goal to motivate and inspire during this coming school year to to keep what comes out of my mouth positive and to have fun with my students. You have to lead by example, even with grown ups. #teachpos

A3: Terry 4th grade T dropping in. Sometimes the best way to motivate those who arent feeling it is to let the witness my Ss' and my passion and positivity #teachPOS
A3: Consider having an open door. Think Pineapple Chart. Invite others into your classroom, pass along any of the 50 @burgessdave published books, share cool things you find on your Twitter PLN. #teachpos
A3: This past year I set a goal to be a more positive person for myself & others. This coming year, my goal is to be more determined. I share my goals with others & ask them to help me be accountable. Being positive had a bigger impact than I could’ve ever anticipated #teachPOS

A3 When others see that you are excited and that Ss are buying into your way of teaching others take notice! I always try to be available for other teachers for support and collaboration so that we can all “bring it! 365” #teachpos
A3: Authenticity is key. Being realistic is also important. I need to make investments, "pour into vessels" that are open and ready to receive. Some people may never understand or appreciate what we do. I need to chase those that are teachable, leadable and soar w/them. #teachpos
A1 #teachpos
My main way is by making my class student-paced, with activities differentiated for different language levels and content knowledge. I feel like a lot of student frustration comes from boredom or confusion, from them doing work too easy or way too hard for them.

Hey Will elementary principal in Virginia jumping in late A3: You gotta model baby! Be excited every day, even the days that you don’t feel it and little by little it will start to rub off!! #Teachpos
We put a pineapple chart in the office and invited a few Ts to go for it, to showcase one method or activity and it became easier for others to try. Also, as an admin, I watch any class for a T who wants to visit another class. #teachpos
A3: I try to share what I do and interesting articles or videos I found about different ways of working in the hopes something might inspire a colleague. But I don’t assume to know more than the next... just sharing based on my convictions! #teachpos
Thank you for an amazing #teachpos chat tonight. Glad to be part of this adventure. Bonus Answer!! Another chat about expressing gratitude, being the cheerleader, being a mentor are all great future topics!! Thanks @Shapiro_WTHS 👍🏻
