Hi #ChampForKids! Marisa Thompson, HS ELA, PD instructor, presenter, and new BLOGGER! https://t.co/k9zwmFVIhZ
Excited to go Waaaay back with everyone :) Excited too because today is the first day I put an article out into the world! Maybe one day I'll look Waaaay back to today!
Hey friends, Kelly from Virginia Beach, GRT, Founder of #champforkids chat and blog!
I absolutely adored Punky Brewster when I was growing up! Her eccentric style was my fave!
Hey #champforkids, Annie from Bethlehem, PA! I teach HS Math during the school year and elementary/MS musical theatre in the summer. I’m a baby so I was barely alive in the 90s but I guess Full House is a favorite
ME TOO!!!!! My mom had to force me to finally get rid of them when I was still wearing them and they were two sizes too small and had holes in the toe! Hahahaha #champforkids

Evening Champs! I teach High School English in Virginia... and SO many great 80’s shows, but I will go with “Facts of Life” for the win! (I still remember writing a poem when my teen ❤️ was devastated over it being cancelled 😢) #ChampForKids
A1 I'm getting better at bringing in EXPERIENCES. This year I'm going to bring in The Butterfly Project in addition to our Museum of Tolerance field trip. Our Old Globe guest teacher and field trip was amazing, too! Their epiphanies from both were inspiring #champforkids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A1: I encourage wonder by listening to my students & providing opportunities for them to follow their interests & passions. When working with reluctant readers, honoring & supporting what they're wondering about will often hook them into new authors, genres & books #champforkids
A1 - I like to encourage Wonder through independent studies, genius hour, and LOTS and LOTS of questioning! Allow Ss to record and collect questions to be used to guide research! Model, "Hmmm I wonder..."
#champforkids
A1: Tangents are good. Go off on a tangent. Please. That means you're thinking and making connections. I'll finish my original plan later, or if yours is better, I'll roll with it. #champforkids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A1: We do a lot of notice and wonder. It’s a consistent routine I do whenever we start a new unit. It allows me to gauge their understanding before and after. #champforkids
A1: I encourage Ss to be filled with wonder by asking better questions and always encouraging them to continue learning when they leave me. #champforkids
A1: ...with two questions: "Why?" and "What do you think?" Then follow up by really listening to the responses. Too often we miss the opportunity to have that spark catch fire because we are in a hurry to get to the next thing. #champforkids
A1: I love encouraging discovery learning and helping students find the connections in math for themselves... that’s wonder that’ll stick with them long beyond the semester we spend together #champforkids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A1: I encourage teachers to use as much PBL and discovery learning as possible. We also have what's called iReadRevolution where we encourage students to bring books to school and read at a certain point in the day. Encourages students to discover books they like. #champforkids
A1 I often model this with my Ss! If we read a book or have a discussion I always take an opportunity to look more info up on it! Soon my Ss are asking questions and I show interests in their passions and we do the same by looking it up. #champforkids
A1) I encourage wonder by giving Ss an opportunity to just tinker sometimes. It is amazing what they create when they are able to make something without specific guidelines.
#champforkids
A1 I try to share what I’m passionate about and gets me excited with my kids! If I can share what I need out about they can share too. I have my students write questions with their interests in mind and am implementing a genius hour in my enrichment class! #champforkids
A1: I like to have students create their own questions through reading a simple statement, looking at pictures, listening to music. I like to use mystery bags and finish class with an attention grabbing hook. #champforkids
A1 #champforkids As a reading teacher, I encourage discussions, and practicing close reading strategies/rereading the text to find answers or searching online.
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!

Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A1) I try to encourage wonder by creating amazing, over the top experiences, playing characters and leading my Ss on amazing adventures of learning #champforkids
I've found it helpful to create wonder by not answering every question. Instead, help Ss learn to hypothesize, experiment, and discern truth. Let answers come from them! #champforkids
A1: Last year I started meeting my kids at the door in the morning, and I would give them a secret word to be listening for that day, I would tape a vocabulary word to me and they would have to ponder it for awhile, or I would hold some strange object needed later. #champforkids
A1: I encourage wonder in my classroom by providing an environment where my Ss actually have time to wonder and explore. I strategically pique their interests and send them on their way. #ChampforKids

Yes! I always wanted the Rachel haircut and the lady would be like... sorry honey its not for you! Hahahah!!! Glad you are here tonight Adam! #champforkids
Good evening, everyone! I am Paulette from VBCPS, coordinator of professional learning! Different World...Whitley and Dwayne Wayne all day long! #ChampForKids
A1: My classroom is like a mystery novel. I create hooks and bring them in with murder, mayhem and a little crazy. They always want to learn more about history. #champforkids
A1 Create a culture of curiosity. It’s ok if we don’t produce answers; however let’s allow Ss to consume themselves with wonder and excitement!#ChampForKids
A1~ exposing Ss to a variety of inquiry based activities where they are the leaders~ finding their passions & supporting them with researching such & making a big deal about what makes them come alive & going to limitless lengths to help them grow ...#champforkids
I can be a tangent king. Only thing it ever does is create good class discussion. It’s okay to get a little off topic, we are building relationships! #Champforkids
#champforkids - A1 - I encourage wonder by making sure to promote the thoughts of my Ss, regardless how ridiculous (like Cousin Larry and Balki). I'm constantly looking up stuff on google for my class to prove/disprove my Ss random thoughts.
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
Nothing is greater than getting them all worked up and excited and then the bell rings! Keeps them wondering and curious for that next class! #ChampforKids
A1: I encourage wonder by providing opportunities for students to have class discussions, which may lead to deeper thinking and questions. #champforkids
A2 THIS is what I'm about. ELA Standards discuss voice, argumentation, tone, evidence. We choose the topics; why can't our students choose for themselves? It's time for that shift! Imagine how great their products will be when they care about their writing topics! #ChampForKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
#champforkids A1: I try and create wonder through engaging hooks, real world connections, and by not giving a lot of hw so Ss have time to pursue more independent learning at home.
Totally! It surprises students when you say yes to idea they come up with. I always have to think why not? If I can’t find a reason then we do it! #Champforkids
So essential to take time to hear their voice. I was struggling with this concept the other day. Too often we want change because we don't like the product being offered, but are we listening to the students' voice before exacting change? #champforkids
A1: I try to “incorporate” ideas and perspectives that leave them thirsty for more information about the subject we are studying. I’ll say, “and if you want to know more... go to...” It is a “Wonderful” way to inspire wonder. Wonder what else would work? 🤔 #champforkids
I like to think about the lessons as quests- supply students with the equipment they need and let them choose the adventure that is best for them #champforkids
A1: I am striving to incorporate more student choice in classes this year- Giving Ss the opportunity to authentically engage in something they “Wonder” about. I think this also happens when we allow them to struggle with the content & make their own connections. #champforkids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
Hi, Alisha from KS
A1 I like using hooks to get Ss wondering about the content we are getting ready to learn. I'm going to have Ss use genius hour this year to get them thinking about their passions. #champforkids
A2 - Brainstorming, explaining, questioning can all be done with peer conversations and conferences before T-S conferencing. Ss are able to work out their kinks and make sense of their ideas with their classmates. #champforkids
A2: I encourage Ss to work collaboratively with others so that they can hear various perspectives & possibly ideas they hadn't thought of. Then, they can take these discussions into consideration when investigating their individual passions #champforkids
In ESL, I will never stop a discussion. We work so hard to help them become comfortable speaking aloud. I can't imagine saying "That's not what we're talking about today, sorry." #ChampForKids
YES! Google is good, but what do YOU think? What is YOUR opinion about that? I have been doing this at home to our kids all summer. It's a blast. #champforkids
There's a teacher in my building where the students who how to get him off topic. If you mention anything political, he'll be off topic the entire period! I suppose it might be a good thing after all, because it leads to some productive class discussions! #champforkids
A2: once topics are selected, Ss can share & determine similarities. They can choose to research together or independently but they must share their final product with one another & a global audience. #champforkids
I agree! It’s giving them the chance to talk, discuss, debate anything they will be nervous at first but they truly love it! I had my Ss debate Jack in the Beanstalk based on two different accounts and they didn’t want to stop. #champforkids
A2: Collaboration, communication, compromise are all skills that must be mastered in order to be successful in the 21st Century. Constantly reminding Ss need space to answer their own questions, but not leave their partner in the dust on their pursuit of answers. #champforkids
A1 Wonder comes from allowing Ss to ASK Questions and then seek, explore, navigate, and question some more. The awesomeness of discovery is best lived through the eyes of a child. Question and question some more. Be curious. #ChampForKids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A2: #Champforkids Our district is trained in Google, and all students have 1:1 devices. This allows students to collaborate on projects using shared Google docs, slides, Google Classroom discussions, etc. They can also add their research!
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2 The conversations that happen while students are talking about their passions allow for collaboration. Let them have a chance to talk with each other in class. #ChampForKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2: Strategic planning! Some activities lend themselves to collaboration while others need choice for independent inquiry/innovation. Having a mix of both throughout the year meets the needs of many! #ChampForKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2: Genius Hour and tons of collaborative work to encourage Ss to work together and learn from each other. I minimize my role and focus on small groups. #champforkids
A1 They always have a choice whether to work with a partner or by themselves. They usually choose working with a partner, they typically have similar interests #champforkids

A2 Students want to learn from each other. If we are modeling how to have good conversation and giving good feedback our students learn these skills. Collaboration is something they have to see and practice, but it’s the best way to learn! #champforkids
Hot opinion. Passions are overrated. They're teens getting a liberal arts education. It's ok to broaden they're experience.
I had a passion as a teen. I don't even remember her name. #champforkids
A2) This year I had students work in groups for projects or have a project buddy that they could bounce ideas off of and discuss their thoughts with #champforkids
If we want students' school years to truly be the Wonder Years, then we must be sure to incorporate some WONDER into our schools!
Q1 - How do you encourage WONDER in your classroom/building/district?
#champforkids
A2: Last year, I dipped my toe in the Genius Hour with some Ss. I saw positive results. This year, I'm all in with Genius Hour and with Passion Projects for individual passions. Otherwise, Ss collaborate almost all day, every day. #ChampForKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2: Collaboration, communication, compromise are all skills that must be mastered in order to be successful in the 21st Century. Constantly reminding Ss need space to answer their own questions, but not leave their partner in the dust on their pursuit of answers. #champforkids
A2: I have found using hyperdocs is a way for Ss to collaborate, share, learn but still allow choice for them to show their individual passions and strengths. #champforkids
A1: give them strategic materials and let them play and explore. Allow ss to ask questions during instruction rather than trying to get brought notes. Allow time for self discovery. #champforkids
A2) I encourage collaboration by having students build off of each others ideas. It is so exciting to see how students can brainstorm ideas together and then modify their projects.
#ChampForKids
A2: Move freely around the classroom and consult anyone to get a task done. Different tasks for different groups of kids. Someone else might have the missing piece. #champforkids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
#champforkids - A2 - I give my Ss a variety of ways to show their understanding, so they get to choose the way in which they collaborate and show mastery of a topic.
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2~ share, teach each other, listen, repeat #champforkids ... & support the fun in doing so ... collaboration is key to not only sharing passions, but igniting greatness in others as well .
A2: I give students choice and there is always a group activity and peer tutoring as options. Sometimes we learn well when we can work through with friends and sometimes a student who got it right away can help someone who’s a little lost and both come out ahead!
A2: When students have an argument over history I don't give them my opinion. I let them have a debate. They love researching concepts or people they are passionate about. #champforkids
A2: The end result is learning in both collaboration and independent discovery. If students work independently, they are discovering for and by themselves, but if they are collaborating, they are learning with and by each other. #champforkids
A2: I’ve had students collaborate on the research part and present together as well as have them create their own final projects. I also encourage Genius Hour projects. #champforkids
A2) Give the kid’s time to start a project; then stop them and tell them their only “homework” is to think of what ways they can add to/improve their product the next day. #champforkids
A2: I give students choice and there is always a group activity and peer tutoring as options. Sometimes we learn well when we can work through with friends and sometimes a student who got it right away can help someone who’s a little lost and both come out ahead! #champforkids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2 I encourage students to share their individual passions with their classmates. Sometimes their classmates are what helps them ask the better questions and investigate their passions. It also helps students build deeper relationships with each other! #champforkids
A2 Strategic planning is critical for collaboration and personalized learning. It takes everyone having the same vision to have an A TEAM! #ChampForKids
A2: When my littles are at centers, there is an adult there to guide their sense of wonder and inquiry, and ask the questions: "What if...." & "I wonder...." #champforkids
A2 - Choice and trying hard not to worry about grades. We want kids to find their passion. That comes from reducing stress and increasing happiness #champforkids
#ChampForKids Sentence stems help get the conversation going- the best approach is to prompt them with a problem, let them tinker & discuss & demonstrate their knowledge how they want. Choice is key. Collaborative groups work best with defined rolls & time to problems-solve
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A2: allow ss time to share with each other their own learning journey, project, etc. Teach, model, and practice the skill of critiquing, collaborative problem solving, constructive questioning and criticism, and sharing of ideas. #champforkids
A3 At every point possible to let students FIGURE IT OUT first, I let them! They CAN. We have to stop rescuing them from what produces confidence and resilience. "You're smart, you've got smart people around you & all the tools you need. Go for it! I'll check back!" #champforkids
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
The calling cards my students design really help because students can reference the community board and find other students with similar interests to collaborate with #champforkids
A2: My room is rarely very quiet. My seating is flexible and my kids collaborate and discuss pretty much all the time. Sometimes that leads us down different tangents of learning than I had planned, but we roll with it. #champforkids
A2: By modeling responses to questions with deeper questions. For example, I love the simplicity and complexity of the question "How do we know?" #ChampForKids
A3: I want Ss to take ownership of their learning. I want to provide opportunities to empower them so that they come up with the ideas & solutions. My role is to ask questions & to support them when I'm needed but not to tell them what to think or do. #champforkids
#champforkids A2. Modeling how to Brainstorm and stepping back and watch what they do with peers...A lot of great projects, research, hand-made games..and I gave very few guidelines..
A3 - Allowing Ss voice and choice in the process (how/where to research, what topic, listen/watch/read materials) AND the product (hi-tech, low-tech, visuals, hands-on, etc)
#champforkids
A3 At every point possible to let students FIGURE IT OUT first, I let them! They CAN. We have to stop rescuing them from what produces confidence and resilience. "You're smart, you've got smart people around you & all the tools you need. Go for it! I'll check back!" #champforkids
One of my colleagues at the end of the year had their Ss create a presentation to teach the class something they love. Baseball throw, gymnastics move, dance moves, how to draw something. The kids loved it! #champforkids
A2: I build in time for students to collaborate. During that time Ss can share their thoughts, learn from each other, and see things from different perspectives. #champforkids
A3: Sometimes it's tough when Ss want you to provide all the answers. Providing time for them to brainstorm/test/fail/retry is important to the learning process of inquiry/innovation! #ChampForKids
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
Ss must feel safe to ask questions and know that they’ll be allowed time to research the answers. By honoring this commitment to learning we show students that we care about them and their interests #ChampforKids
We use to do this with my HS science teacher. He was the track and volleyball coach , so you only mentioned that and no more science for the day! #champforkids
YES! We should encourage out students to network and "steal" ideas from others groups. The spirit of innovation. Take something good and make it even better by incorporating somebody else's ingenuity. #champforkids
A2. @geniushour was AAAMMMAAAZZZIIINNGGG!! Kids collaborated with partner to present a project they were passionate about, created rubric which incorporated @Flipgrid as reflection #champforkids
A3 - Two of our Mantras for class are
1. Make the class your class
2. Do great work for you.
It comes down to creating an atmosphere that always promotes individual growth and also cooperation. #champforkids
A3: Always finish up by asking Ss what they’d like to learn about that they ran out of time to research. It immediately activates curiosity & most will continue discovery on their own. #champforkids
A3: All goes back to A1...we need to ask the right questions and listen to their responses. When we hear their vision, we can come alongside of it and provide adequate support. Be it resources, or words of encouragement from the corner. #champforkids
A3: Allowing Ss to push the boundaries of traditional classrooms. Creating time for Ss to talk and moderate discussions with me as a facilitator and support if conversation dies down. #champforkids
#champforkids - A3 - It's all about that #growthmindset! Students need to understand that they are ultimately the ones in charge of their education and that they can overcome obstacles and be the gatekeepers of their own future.
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
A2: Flexible groupings aid this-allowing Ss to build their own learning community based on interest (or needed skills to aid inquiry)- & allowing the flexibility to shift collaborators w/in & between stages. Forced collaboration becomes a chore, often not an asset. #ChampForKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.
Q2 - How do you encourage collaboration while still allowing Ss to inquire and investigate individual passions?
#champforkids
A3: I think in order for it to be successful, the topic or type of project/assignment has to be of interest to the student. You can still accomplish state standards by giving students choice! #differentiation#champforkids
A3: by giving them time, for 1. Also give them room to breathe. Many are afraid to break something, make a mess, do something wrong and get yelled at in September. But by June... oh, my poor room during #RubeGoldberg machines. And say yes more than you say no. #champforkids
A3 Teaching kids how to fail is the best thing that I’ve learned to make kids take more ownership of their learning. If you aren’t afraid to fail you are opening yourself up to taking risks and trying new things! #champforkids
So immediately they know that someone in the class has a skill they could benefit from, and that their skills could benefit others. I have pretty much no rules other than "don't do anything I wouldn't do". Works for me. #champforkids
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
Questioning is so important! It’s a skill that I need to continue practicing and hearing others using questioning to propel the learning further. #champforkids
A3: The last 2 years I have had a classroom Makerspace, we’ve done Genius Hour projects, and when a student inquires things in class I encourage them to go looking for the answers. I want them to be empowered, life-long learners. #champforkids
A3: Model, Model, Model! Students cannot go deeper into the material without being shown how to do so first. You can't expect a fish to climb a tree without a ladder. #champforkids
A3 I model, model, model! We brainstorm, test and fail and once they see ME doing it and I am okay! The pressure of "failure" is off and they come up with ways to brainstorm test and fail their own interests! #champforkids
#champforkids A3. Letting go of my control and let them lead. This past year, many were so creative, innovative and it had little to do with me..Loved it!
A3 It's always tricky between providing encouragement without to much help. My students tend to stick with it more building, whether it's a bridge or a video game. They are more likely to redo, reinvent and try again #champforkids
#ChampForKids For me it is about creating a safe haven where taking risk is comfortable- when they feel safe they will jump into problem-solving quicker and be more flexible in their learning- help them to think for themselves
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
A3) This is a weakness of mine and a huge goal for this year. I want my student to take ownership of their learning and be empowered to develop critical thinking skills. I am working on it!
#champforkids
Creativity and getting students to believe in their power to learn is never just one lesson or one day. It’s a year long process of inspiring them that they can do anything. #champforkids
A3: I work through every student question... a “what would happen if...” is always worth our time to explore as a class, and if it’s a super advanced S, I love pulling them aside for a little one on one or small group enrichment after everyone else gets started #champforkids
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
A4 A HUGE focus for me this year! More experts, more guests, a panel or two, and inviting community to join our novel studies and end-of-novel Socratic discussions! Also got an Instagram account & every student will post a weekly update once in 1819! #champforkids
We all know that Family Ties are important to our work in the classroom.
Q4 - How do you include parents/community in wonder, inquiry, and innovation happening in your school/building/district?
#champforkids
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
A3 #Champforkids In RTI, we have only 30 minutes with each group. With the texts that we use, our time is mostly direct instruction. On nonfiction texts, I do allow them time to research online and add their findings to their response journals or share with the group.
INQUIRY AND INNOVATION must be student-driven. We must let Ss know Who's the Boss.
Q3 - How do you support and push students toward taking inquiry/innovation into their own hands?
#champforkids
A3: Example-Science and SS- I try to have real life items, toys, books, games, puzzles, posters, etc. set out to explore , play with, create so that they can really get into the subject should they choose to. #champforkids
Yes! Teaching them about the resources, but in the end allowing them to make decisions on which they will use! Process and Product must belong to the students. #champforkids
In reply to
@ChristineBemis2, @Flipgrid, @Newsela, @PearDeck, @googleearth
A4 - Ps/Community can be included as experts/consultants, they can also help with gathering materials for hands on innovation, they can serve as classroom volunteers for an extra pair of hands. This type of learning can be chaotic and messy at times, ask for help! #champforkids
A4: Maintaining open communication with ALL stakeholders is extremely important so that everyone understands the goals & is on the same page as far as what the expectations are for Ss & Ps involvement. We can accomplish so much more when we work together. #champforkids
A4: As my friend, @JoyKirr has told me, transparency is key when making shifts from the traditional mindset to something new. Finding ways to keep Ps involved is essential + not the Ss' responsibility. Whether it is through a website, IG, or Twitter, it's on us. #champforkids
A4 Not enough! It is a big goal of mine to make sure that my students have an authentic audience and that means involving and inviting the communities and families into the school more often! #champforkids
It's awesome. Example: a quiet and shy violin player is connected to a rapper who connects to a video editor who connects to an Instagram model who connects to a marketing genius and they can make something incredible. Never would have connected otherwise #champforkids
A2 Model, model, model... Students must be taught how to work together, respect differences in opinion, ask questions for understanding, and add to the “body of knowledge. #ChampforKids
If we are looking to build a solid A-Team, we must allow for collaboration during INQUIRY and INNOVATION.

Teaching that respect of differences in backgrounds, culture, strengths, and experiences is POWERFUL! Ts can add to their body of knowledge by learning from Ss in these areas as well! #champforkids
