Benefits are huge levels of engagement but sometimes Ss expect everything to end in "a game" so we change it up and go old school
If gamification in classrooms will encourage young adults to see the power and potential of coding, then I'm all for it!

From what little I know, gamification is one means, among many, of engaging Ss in learning that is meaningful, fun and relevant.
Not much exp w/gamification, but motivates some Ss exponentially to have opp to "level up," can allow for diff learning pace/path

yes! Takes much time/effort to fight this, time that could be spent learning....but once Ss buy in, learning improves!

We tested a new challenge on Sat. Dealt w/renewable energy, environment, & even included Chernobyl as part of clues.

Drawbacks: Hard for me to understand what it looks like in my class. Justifying achievement conversions to grades. Frontloaded.

I like the phrase "strategic thinking." Sometimes, solo; other times, collaborative, depending on the game/situation.
