Good morning! We celebrated 100 days of school yesterday and today (Shrove Tuesday) we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day (as Feb. 14 is Ash Wednesday). #bfc530
My pitch would be that it's one of the toughest jobs you'll have, but you will not find one that is more rewarding! Sounds corny, but for me it's true. #bfc530
there's nothing like the energy of being in a school (esp. middle school) --- opportunity to change so many lives #bfc530 if you're a learner, there's no better profession
If ever I try to pitch someone on teaching, especially students, I let them know all the teacher qualities I've noticed in them.
But don't pitch this career often because the person has to really love & want this job!

Go in being yourself, make it yours, hang 10 and enjoy the sun on your face no matter what others may say. Stay true to the craft and ride the waves with a smile. Enjoy the journey - you'll wipe out at times, but catch the next wave and continue on! #bfc530

If a young person approached me for career advice, I’m not sure I’d pitch teaching. I’d ask questions to get at why they’re interested in teaching and how it matches their values. #bfc530

I have it on my phone and yes I check it often but I look at it as 2 minutes here and there saves me a ton of time when I get to work on the morning. It's not for everyone, but it works for me. #bfc530

Please remember that this is more than a job, it’s a vocation, it’s a purpose. It’s like the musician, their Art is their purpose, is integrative with self. You will change lives. You will teach Ss to learn so they can change the world. #bfc530

As a bit obsessed and avid learner, I most need insight not information from a teacher/mentor. Information is easily available and mostly free; insight invaluable and only comes with experience. How about you? #bfc530

The problem for me isn't that I'm answering emails, it's the weight of knowing how many I'll have if I don't stay on top of it. Again, that's what works for me. #bfc530

Agree with that. I try not to look at school email at home and a good night sleep is one reason. Also, the idea that home time is for my family & friends and they need all of me not me distracted. #bfc530

Thanks. It doesn't greatly bother me. Then I see being a teacher as part of my existence so if I was to do Carl stuff during a spare a school i justify it against work I do at home #bfc530

I'm with Stacey. I've never put my school email on my phone. I check the computer enough to try to stay ahead. We can be accessible, but that doesn't mean ppl get 100% access 100% of the time. #bfc530

With you Carl! I have a work supplied phone and my own phone. The work phone has my work email A/C and gets turned off around 7pm. All of my bosses have my personal number if it is urgent. Boundaries are important to me. You can always set your ‘out of school’ msg. #bfc530

I remember a friend wondering why I always took naps when I got home from teaching. "How can you be so tired, you only work 6 hours?" He then tried to become a teacher, gave up on it after student teaching & apologized for being critical of my naps. #bfc530
Agreed! Family life / personal time should be given the importance it deserves. It worries me that being available to work after hours sends a msg to others that teaches them to not respect the fact that time for others is important. #bfc530
