Good eveneing #wearewayne. It's time for this evening's Twitter chat. So glad you could join me to talk about snow days and delays. Please introduce yourself and attach your favorite snow day meme. Don't forget to include #wearewayne to your tweets.
For tonight's #wearewayne chat, please be sure to begin your response with the letter A followed by the question # and #wearewayne. For instance, Q1 should be responded to with A1 and #wearewayne.
WOW!! It's amazing how quickly 30 minutes of #wearewayne Twitter chat can go. We are certainly hoping for great weather this winter. Thanks for sharing you thoughts and time tonight. Have a great night.
A1: It was around third grade. We built an epic snow fort that we could crawl through. We were out of school for a couple of days so it got multiple uses. #wearewayne
I can remember the blizzard of '78. It was the best time for my brothers and friends as we built forts, sledded down hills, and just had fun in the snow for a few days.
Not sure my parents felt the same way! #wearewayne
A1: winter of '78. We had to take snowmobiles to get home from school and were snowed in for a week. All the neighborhood kids joined hands, walked to the end of our road and sat at the in a huge snowdrift. It was the best snow fort. #wearewayne
A1 my most memorable snow day was a few years back when we were out for the week after winter break. My boys went out in the street to play ice hockey with neighborseach morning #wearewayne
Sean Winningham - parent of #wearewayne. A1 - in HS, we went to school the first half of the day but because it was snowing so bad during the day, they cancelled classes in the afternoon.
A2: I believe e learning days are a great idea, but I am not sure it would work well with my Ss. Many of them do not have internet. That us a hurdle we would need to address. #wearewayne
A2 - e-learning days only make sense if those lessons, technology, etc. can be supported at home. I think it’s an “easy” solution but because snow days aren’t predictable, it can be disruptive. It only works if it can continue learning being done in class. #wearewayne
A2: Every day is an opportunity to learn. If we are able to take advantage of a new approach to differentiated instruction, then I would be in favor of it with an effective model. #wearewayne
Q3: Excellent suggestions. However, since we do not have e-learning days in Wayne, what are some activities you recommend during a snow day? #WeAreWayne
A3: It would be great to have premade activities that provide instructions for STEM activities using household items that Ss can do together with family. #wearewayne
These 2nd grade students have worked so hard on their speaking parts for the winter program. I am amazed by their acting and memorization skills! Come check them out December 18 at 6:00 at BDHS! #wearewayne
A3: Bundle up, Get Outside, and Experience the Snow. You don’t need much to enjoy the snow but building a snowman and sledding are two ideas everyone should try at least once. #wearewayne
A3 - besides have fun? 😊 ❄️ ⛄️
Take the opportunity to do something I’ve been meaning to do, but make sure I take advantage of a free day to spend time with my family. #wearewayne
A2: I know 4 or 5 teachers in other corporations that have e-learning days. They all question if students actually apply themselves fully when working from home. Most question if adequate instruction is going on, or if everyone is just going through the motions #wearewayne
Q4: For the first time in memorable history, we closed school before Thanksgiving due to weather concerns. Were you surprised? And, would you have made a different decision? Why? #wearewayne

A4 it’s about the safety of the students and employees. When it comes to weather conditions, it’s always difficult to know what exactly will happen. I mean, there’s a reason why meteorologists are hardly right most of the time, right? #wearewayne
A4: I was surprised because since we have been in IN the past 9 years that was a first for me. I'm from Northern IL and weather is much more brutal and we had very few snow days. However, when it comes to ice, I think it is wise to put safety 1st. #wearewayne
A4 I was definitely surprised by the closing. I do think it was the right decision. Roads were still not completely clear by the 2hr delay time. #wearewayne
A2: I live in Washington Twp and they did e-learning for other days off (not snow days) last school year, but to me, it just seemed like busy work for my boys to do. Some of the work required access to the internet. They aren’t doing it this year. #WeAreWayne
A4: I was surprised the weather forecast was accurate. Weather is so unpredictable. I believed it was a great call because I couldn’t imagine our scholars waiting in that for the bus. When I went to leave the house that day my car was under multiple layers of ice. #wearewayne
So how what guidelines do I use to make a decision on school attendance when weather is a concern? Check out https://t.co/iPXcDjhTZr on our website. #wearewayne
A5: I think my opinions about school delays and cancellations have changed. When I was younger I was all for it. Now that I’m older I don’t like to lose an opportunity or time to interact with my scholars. #wearewayne
A5: I feel the weather has changed to winter's not being so bad. I do appreciate how you put our Ss safety 1st and feel our picies in Wayne for cancellation or delay are very reasonable. #wearewayne
