Hey #NoVAedchat!! I'm so glad you're all here to chat with us! I'm hopeful one of these days to get back to a conference with @techinteaching - @fetc was pretty epic when we reunited to present there a few years ago!
My name is Will Matthews, SBTS from @ForestEdgeES I’m not sure if this counts as an Edu Conference or not, but I’m looking forward to attending the next @edcampnova I had a scheduling conflict last spring and wasn’t able to go, but it sounds like so much fun! #NoVAedchat
Hi everyone. I’m Tim, a freelance educator in the Springfield area. I’d like to go to the BETT Conference in London. https://t.co/Obg82L0Lrh Just ‘cause it’s London. :) #NoVAedChat
A1:During professional development sessions, having the ability to take what the presenter says and have the time within the session to see how it would work for me or my team. #NoVAedchat#VSTE2018PPowerUsers
Sheila Teri from Virginia Beach happy to chat tonight. Very excited for #VSTE18 to be here back at the beach. I'd LOVE to go to edu tech in Australia! https://t.co/13MHmLf4ee#novaedchat
A1 I love connecting with my people!! The conversations are incredible and I always learn so much when I find time together with my people! Especially my #tosachat peeps at #ISTE#NOVAedchat
The last Conference I went to was the Title 1 Conference in Philly Last year. It was right after the Super Bowl and was awesome! I grew up in PA and so being in my home state was a bonus. #NoVAedchat

A1: I loved the opportunity to share and collaborate with other educators during open topic sessions. During lunches there were hot seat sessions, so while one group ate lunch, the other group was in the hot seat sessions (there were multiple topics to pick from). #NoVAedchat
A1: the conversations with educators who are open minded and willing to learn! Don’t you just love a good back and forth convo where you can really ask questions and share ideas?!?! #NoVAedchat
Karen from @VSTE and I am excited about going to VMI Stem conference next week. Always looked fun and hands on. But London would be fun, too #NoVAedChat
A1 I also like when a conference team sets up a gathering space that invites conversation. Small gathering spaces in lobbies and in the hall, time between sessions, etc #NOVAedchat
A1: Shameless plug. I loved out #VBDLSS that we did in Virginia beach. The best part of it was having teachers reveal to us their struggles with technology and how they overcame them. @TechTeachVB#VBITS#novaedchat
A1: I attended Student-Centered Coaching institute by Corwin. 2-days in a deep dive with @SweeneyDiane and her team. I have been to many very big conferences, but this was a small scale but very powerful. #novaedchat
The most recent conference I went to was @fetc and I love the myriad of options that #FETC offers- tech, learning, reflection...it's all there! #NoVAedchat
A1 This summer I attended a week long behavior training provided by my district. The trainers were awesome, and we had the opportunity to apply everything we learned during he training. #NoVAedChat
A1: One of the best conferences I went to was the @ASCD Conference. There were so many sessions that I found insightful. Though what made it one of the best was that we went as a school team with our administration and discussed each night. Being in NOLA was a bonus. #NoVAedchat
We do these @_SCOLT_ and they are hot topics that are presented during lunch time. It reduces the long lines at lunch and all attendees can pick a current/hot topic session to attend. #NoVAedchat
My favorite PD every year is EduCon in Philly. https://t.co/NWkr0VOFFF The weekend is organized around interaction and discussions among the participants, instead of vendors and marketing. #NoVAedChat
A1 Another really awesome conference is @educonphilly - https://t.co/M3q2x5zMRI@timstahmer introduced me to this great experience, set up around conversations about how we might improve education. It bring together folks from lots of different perspectives #NoVAedchat
A1 - There’s never a time where I don’t appreciate dialoguing with other teachers and workshopping ideas, so I like when professional learning involves opportunities to receive those different perspectives. That is how we grow our individual professional communities! #NoVAedchat
More of an open discussion with a leader, though some are presentations with discussion. For #FLAVA18 we are designing them to be moderated sharing and discussion on hot Worls Language topics. I’m leading the tech in WL group. #NoVAedchat

A1a: There are so many learning experiences that I've had that I found beneficial. Another one was @edcampnova I went to my first one a few years ago and now I'm hooked. I love the concept and the connections made during it. #NoVAedchat
A2: we sat through a key note that was just wrong on so many levels. Walked out after we couldn’t take it any more! I wish the organizers had screened more carefully #NoVAedchat
A2. When you attend something thinking it will be helpful, but the content ends up being different than you expected #notafan Clarity on topics and content helps build accurate expectations #NoVAedchat
I love when I can go to conferences with a team - it's amazing that you can be in the same room, hear the same presentation and take away so many different ideas. And then the conversation after is so powerful! #NoVAedchat
A2: When someone is doing all the talking, I am not doing much learning. Quality sessions have time to process and lots of ideas that I can make my own. #NoVAedchat
A2: More time for collaboration or time to reflect and create lessons or products to take back to the classroom. Too often we see something at a conference and say we want to do it, but don’t have the time to actually sit down and be encouraged to do it when we return.#NoVAedchat
A2 It was a new PD being offered for the first time, so we were guinea pigs. That means no pre-made training information and a lot of trial and error. It worked for this particular training, but I can see next year’s training being way better because of this year. #NoVAedChat
A1: the most recent was HSTW in Orlando. Loved the sharing that was happening and seeing ideas that others have implemented that I wanted to try #NoVAedChat
@NoVAEdChat#NoVAedchat Hi! I'm Katie, an English teacher at Oakton HS. I'd love to go to the EdLeader21 conference, ISTE, VSTE, or NCTE. Buuuuut... 💰💰💰💸💸
A2: What I would have like to see be different about our trip to @ASCD Conference was though we talked each night and even spent time as a group discussing learning at our school. The ideas we came up with didn't go anywhere and just stayed in NOLA. #NoVAedchat
I know! We are looking at other locations for coming years. I am also looking at ways we could possibly do live feeds of some sessions, similar to @vste. #NoVAedchat
In reply to
@ProfeTravis, @TechyMargaret, @coreythornblad, @_SCOLT_, @vste
I would love more events catered towards people who have been to the conference many times and are #PowerUsers. I want to find cutting edge stuff that I can receive training on. #novaedchat
A2: I would have liked to see modeling presenter as T and me as the S . Immersed in the structure to understand from both sides of the coin #NoVAedChat
True, though there has to also be follow through. That conference was one of my best, but all the great things we discussed went no where and so in reality it was a waste. #NoVAedchat
A2: Perhaps a way to check in with a cohort from the institute to discuss implementation. It was 2 days in Chicago and in hindsight, I would love to have formed a cohort to keep in touch with how we are implementing Student-Centered Coaching. #novaedchat
We’re building some edcamp-type activities into @vste this year. But at any conference, there are always opportunities to have conversations outside of the sessions. #NoVAedChat
Hi everyone! Margaret, P @HolmesMS_FCPS in VA. I would love to go to a PLC summit or a Learning Forward Conference. Never been but have heard great things! #NoVAedchat
Perhaps a way to check in with a cohort from the institute to discuss implementation. It was 2 days in St. Louis and in hindsight, I would love to have formed a cohort to keep in touch with how we are implementing Student-Centered Coaching. #novaedchat#NoVAedChat

I went to @LearningForward last year. It's a great conference- I went to some amazing sessions and I loved the sit-down lunch...it was a fantastic opportunity to make connections with other educators. #NoVAedChat

A3: I want to walk away with something real. Some nugget of inspiration that I can incorporate into my practice. Small things that can evolve into a truly improved student (and hey, maybe teacher too!) experience #NoVAedchat
Oooooh follow through is so important! A couple of years ago, @DenaSimmons keynoted for our leadership conference - then joined us for follow up #Novaedchat and it was so powerful! It was wonderful to revisit the ideas throughout the year!

A3: When I go to a conference I want to be envigorated, learn at least two new things, and grow my PLN. I hope to be able to learn things that will help me to continue to be the "Disruptive Innovator" as an instructional coach. #NoVAedchat
A3: I want to walk away with new ideas or strategies that I can use with my Ss or ways to improve what I do. I attend conferences because I am a lifelong learner and I always want to improve. I also love the chance to collaborate with other likeminded Ts. #NoVAedchat
I was extremely jealous watching all the #WISSIT tweets this year!! It was the first time I've heard of it and I wanted to be there more than anything #NoVAedchat
A3: I like to walk away with new ideas, new tech to play with, stronger connections to my PLN, new connections added to my PLN, concepts that challenge my thinking.
#NoVAedchat
The lack of opportunity for follow through is my greatest frustration in presenting at conferences. I would love to know if people actually use any of the ideas from the session. #NoVAedChat

A3: I want to come away from a conference with ideas, connections, and strategies to support my goals and the shared vision of our school system. I want to leave so excited about what I learned that I start diving in even before I get home! #novaedchat
A3 I love learning (if I could afford it, I’d be a professional student). I want to leave a conference with tools and strategies that I can actually implement in my classroom or school at large. #NoVAedchat
A3 - The easy answer is some new idea I could try out, but honestly I would consider it a win if I just came away excited about something. Could be a new lesson idea, or a book to read, some refreshing motivation, or just a new connection or friend #NoVAedchat
A3: I need to walk away empowered, emboldened, and excited. Tools and systems that are low entry bar, but high ceiling yield. That's why I love @WISSIT_DC@NoVAEdChat#NoVAedchat
A3: I want to walk away with either something that is going to improve students learning or make a teachers life easier in the classroom so they can spend more time one-on-one. If I can get both then you will have my support forever. #novaedchat
And it makes it more interesting. I've been to too many conferences that were just boring because participants didn't have that type of control over what they wanted to learn more about. #NoVAedchat@edcampnova
I would love to hear the kinds of stories we heard at the conf mtg last weekend where real change happened because of a conference session. #NoVAedchat I wonder how we encourage that?
In reply to
@timstahmer, @TechyMargaret, @jcjITRT51, @ASCD, @DenaSimmons
Q3.5 This is really interesting - several mentions of follow up and cohorts and connecting after with presenters/attendees. How would you share or connect? Could you share stories or videos or words? #NOVAedchat#VSTE18

A1a Anothet thing that I liked about the training was that I took it with a colleague - so we were able to collaborate during the PD and now can continue to bounce ideas off each other. This has allowed us both to dig deeper into the content. #NoVAedChat
I have received emails from attendees saying how my sessions at conferences have changed their teaching and saved them. It’s times like these that I love. #NoVAedchat

A4: I'd like to get some new ideas on the "in class flip," gamification, #gsuiteedu, & little gamification pieces that work in a variety is situations.
#NoVAedchat

A4: I really want to learn more about gamification and really see it in action to fully understand how I could incorporate the various elements of a gamified class into the French classroom. #NoVAedchat
Maybe something like you mentioned...a follow up tweet chat in March or so for @VSTE conference. That makes it quick but also intentional and easy. Too often we say we are going to share but blogging or social media posts don’t get done in the midst of busyness. #novaedchat
A4 - One of my teachers wants to learn about digital breakouts, so that is on my “To Google” list. I’m also curious about ideas for how I can support math and reading workshop with blended learning. Can’t have enough tools in the tool belt for that! #NoVAedchat
A4: I'm very curious about VDOE Computer Science Standards of Learning, Design Thinking, Performance Based Tasks, Competency Based Learning, Global Studies, Personal Pathways to Learning, How to best prepare future ready students, Internet Saftey and Digital Literacy #novaedchat
A4: I've known some about Microcredentialing, or Badging. Though I would love to dive more into how to use this more effectively in schools with Ss. As well as with Ts and staff with PD. #NoVAedchat
A4: @YouTube beta studio. The ability to edit and add questions, polls, and links to other content. Saw in @GoogleForEdu level 2cert. Sounds like @edpuzzle#NoVAedChat
A4: working on building my inquiry based learning toolbox. It’s an extra layer of challenge when you’re doing it in lower level world languages! #NoVAedchat
A4 We are starting towards 1:1 tech this year, and I’m excited to learn more about what we can do with it. I’ve already tried several new (to me) apps and tools to increase student AND staff engagement. #NoVAedchat
Many school districts are trying Digital Learning days. I want to work more on implementing lesson plans that are just as effective as teacher lead instruction but from home. #novaedchat
I'm thinking of some how to encourage school teams to join at the conference. Then give them time to meet and collaborate together as a school team. #NoVAedchat

A4- Forgot to add flipped and blended learning! We are in the beginning stages of implementing a new LMS district wide. We are learning, growing, and sharing everyday! @Schoology#novaedchat
Q5: What tools, strategies, philosophies, or other educational ideas are you planning to try or continue in your classes/school this year? What topic(s) would you want to do a #NoVAedChat with this year? (bonus - want to co-host with us?)
I agree! We could share our learning and let the conversations continue. Plus those of us who can’t make it could also be a part of the conversation. It’s killing me that I’ll miss #VSTE18 this year 😢#NoVAedchat
A5 I am interested in digital equity, how schools are making sure families have access at home and how we are supporting community learning initiatives #NoVAedchat
A5: I'm really open to any topic that can challenge my thinking and/or give insight into new tools or new uses of tools.
I'd be happy to co-host!
#NoVAedchat
How do we encourage ppl to get involved post conference? There is always a core of innovative educators like #NoVAedchat group but how to connect to wider group? #NoVAedchat
In reply to
@PHausTech, @htrude07, @TechyMargaret, @Flipgrid
A5: I’m continuing to use @Flipgrid to promote student voice and global collaboration in my classroom. I am also working to incorporate more virtual reality tools in the classroom as a collaborative project with @lyceebazin Yes, to co-host with you, @TechyMargaret ! #NoVAedchat
A5: I’m always looking for better feedback channels! I feel like regardless of the tricks and tools, it all comes down to feedback and how they’re picking up what you’re putting down #NoVAedchat
A5 - For PD this year we’re essentially doing mini cohorts and I’m leading a blended learning group. My strategy is to ground our teachers as best I can in the “why” and “how” of BL and to not just focus on tech tools. Trying to build more intentional tech use #NoVAedchat
A2: I wish that there could be a guarantee that all of the sessions would be collaborative. It baffles me when I go to workshops, and we’re sitting in rows with our back to people and the presenters don’t take the time to have people connect with each other. #NoVAedChat
It’s hard! There will always be that group who is eager to share and be involved. Maybe if we used @Flipgrid and had various grids focused on different topics, it could draw more people in and could be a way for presenters to check in with attendees. #NoVAedchat

In August, I created an interactive “Choose Your Own Adventure” game for the staff w/ new Google Sites. Old concept, but w/ new technology, it was a hit! Working w/ a few Ts now on creating/designing their own w/ content & their Ss can do the same! (creative writing) #NoVAedchat
A5: An educational philosophy I want to continue to push is the concept of using Univeral Design to learning and inquiry-based learning. This is one of my passions and I know how beneficial it is for ALL Ss. #NoVAedchat
I think personal relationships and invitations help. When folks feel like they are getting something out of it, we can see more participation #NoVAedchat

PD points never hurt to help attract people. Little prizes (like $10 gift cards, a premium license to something, etc.) can all give a little push as well. Perhaps a little gamification piece too...#NoVAedchat

Twitter is a great resource. I never realized its value for educators until I was assigned to join and participate in weekly chats for my ISTE certification. #NoVAedchat
A5 I’m trying to push myself to actually try the new things I’m learning. It’s so easy to say “that won’t work,” or “that doesn’t apply to my Ss,” but I have discovered a lot of my best practices by just trying things out. #NoVAedChat
A6: Moving forward, I intend to work more in my department PLCs so i can keep learning about how to be more effective at encouraging Ts and Ss in using technology effectively. #novaedchat
