#worldgeochat is a weekly chat focused on teaching geography and global studies. Chats vary between geography specific topics as well as general teaching and education topics. ALL are welcome in worldgeochat!
A5: Still working out the kinks, but I'm trying to incorporate more on the spot assessment through brief discussion with students in the midst of class. #worldgeochat
I use a lot of PBL. So we have checkpoints along the way. It is a chance for me to give feedback on a part of a project. It can be one on one, Doc comments, @Screencastify , really anything. #worldgeochat
A1: Really get to know your students outside of class. Not just sports and hobbies but what is their family, home life, etc. show an interest and bring that into your classroom and conversations. #worldgeochat
A5 it always takes longer to grade when you have to correct everything. By giving a little feedback and allowing for revision the final product will be easier and faster to assess. #worldgeochat
Seriously...don't grade everything (they don't need to know ahead of time what you're grading and what you're not). If it's a worksheet that is "knowledge" gathering...completion or no grade at all. Spend your time on the "good stuff" - - Application and Assessment #worldgeochat
#worldgeochat A5: Don't grade everything, but look over everything! I have a wonderful stamp that says "Done" and I put that on anything I just look over, and do not grade. After a few scans of exit slips its clear what my adjustments for the next lesson need to be.
A5: Fabulous question. I would love to figure this out! I am with @CoachHenkel on this one. My principal saw me bring in two bags and a box of grading this morning. #worldgeochat My goal this unit is to not grade everything.
Creativity requires limits and boundaries. When we say "anything goes" (I know because I do this too) we're stifling creativity. Nothing is more intimidating than a blank canvas. Put some limitations and conditions on the assignment and watch creativity rise. #worldgeochat
Tardy to the #worldgeochat party, but I often use @quizizz for quick checks that are informative (and fun!).
Anyone else like to drop their Bitmoji in to show when students have answers correct/incorrect?
A5. I only recently discovered an option in our course management system that gives automatic credit for responding to an online assignment. As long as they write something, it gives credit. Of course, I can review and give feedback as well. #worldgeochat
Thank you to everyone at #worldgeochat for another amazing night of ideas! I can't wait to read back through and see what I missed while typing (especially the part about less grading). Have a great week everybody!
A4. One thing I want to try very soon is have students plan a cross country trip using the Green Book. I found it when NY Public Library put its digital archive online. https://t.co/9GipsRL9vh Now there's a movie about it! #worldgeochat
Well the #worldgeochat certainly is a whirlwind 30 minutes of greatness. Boom, just like that it's over! Thanks all for letting me crash your #worldgeochat party.
