About to go SEA -> LAX -> SYD before hitting airplane mode, thanks to everyone joining tonight’s #MinecraftEdu chat, can’t wait to madly scroll through the goodness later
Hey Eric :) Thanks for joining us tonight! Used to go to GLS in Madison - great town :) #minecraftedu - maybe you could join us in St. Paul for #minefaire March 17-18.
I was a family friendly streamer for a few years. Want to find a way to help bring more #MinecraftEDU oriented content to live streaming platforms. I have some ideas on how to do it, just looking to do my part and contribute in the long run.
Q1 - @mojang recently announced a number of official #minecraft community events. When you think of community events, what comes to mind? What is your expectation? What would you like to get out of your participation? #MinecraftEDU

A1: I am honesty hoping to get myself geared and ready for @minefaire, and have not looked at the other events. I do hope that overall I find kindred spirits who want to dream big and start a new school. 🎉👍 #MinecraftEDU
A1: It's not exactly one of the community events, but I think of the hours I spent watching the recordings of the old MINECON panels. I learned a lot about the community just from these vids. #MinecraftEDU
Are you not -still- a fam friendly streamer? That's where we both are ATM! We should collab (if ever there is the time). You can find me now on https://t.co/Fky1imnTvV#MinecraftEDU
A1: Best part of community events are meeting and collaborating with each other irl. My only expectation would be to have the opportunity to do just that...anything beyond that is #icingonthecake#MinecraftEdu
A1: I love learning new things I hadn’t considered as well as meeting people who can continue to inspire me. If students are involved I love seeing the immediate impact my work can have. #MinecraftEDU
Q1 - @mojang recently announced a number of official #minecraft community events. When you think of community events, what comes to mind? What is your expectation? What would you like to get out of your participation? #MinecraftEDU
A1: - Regional based events that are well advertised and offer something for both kids and adults to do. Its important for parents to get something out of the experience as well. Finding ways to educate the parents at those events is important. Lead by example. #MinecraftEDU
@thetaazmc Welcome Taaz! Super excited to have so many rising stars joining us tonight. #StuVoice helps drive the conversations of this chat! #MinecraftEDU

#Minecraftedu I also wrote 2 Minecraft books in 2nd & 3rd grade (the first hit #1 on Amazon, working on a 3rd one. I'm in 5th grade now. My school doesn't get the educational part of Minecraft. But oh well.
A1: what comes to my mind is a great family, friendly small, but large event that makes spectators happy as well as me:) my expectation is that it is very fun and entertaining for all!
A1 - Solid Question to start! I'd expect Characters like Steve and Alex roaming, consoles to allow random play between kids, an EDU portal (In fact every distinct area should be a portal) , prize draws, BUILD BATTLES live on stage, and more! #MinecraftEDU#NoPressure@minefaire
A Expectation: Meeting new awesome people who love what I and my kids love. Family friendly event. I'd like to take away some new ideas and hopefully share some and help to inspire others! #minecraftedu
A0: Sorry Im a bit late but I'm Aidan from the east coast! Im a YouTuber with around 850+ subscribers and have been to several Minefaire events as a Rising Star! :D #MinecraftEDU
1. Of course loot of some kind, like a goodie bag lol (maybe a MC cape ;) )
2. Family friendly-ness, minecraft is a game commonly played by kids and most likely kids will be going to this event
3. One near me, try your hardest to have one close to most people #MinecraftEDU
When I checked earlier, we were 3rd & 4th respectively. I want to know the story of the Turkish guy in the lead. All seems good for us as long we keep amongst the top 10ish or so. #MinecraftEdu

A1 - Community events for us are REAL meet-ups at the end of summer and in mid-winter. Kids who have only played together virtually, get to meet and play together for real. It's pretty special! #MinecraftEDU
A1: When I think of community events, I usually imagine a large crowd of people al there to meet each other and connect, create collaborations and partnerships, essentially getting together to help one another achieve a larger or similar goal. #MinecraftEDU
A1: Collaboration is an important part of the process. As a parent, we look for ways that our children can do something constructive with something they love. Reward positive play and quality entertainment across multiple platforms. #MinecraftEDU
A1: If I went to a community event, I'd want to learn about all of the game-breaking things people are doing with Minecraft. People are fantastically creative with this game. #MinecraftEDU
A1: @mojang recently announced a number of official #Minecraft community events. I would like to see Minecraft 'Family Nights' and 'Teach the Teacher' events where the kids become the leaders and get to show the adults how to play #MinecraftEDU
I'm a middle school educator (8th grade, English) in Wisconsin and #MinecraftEDU Mentor for 2018. I've run a summer MinecraftEDU summer enrichment course for 3 weeks every summer for past 3 years. I'm hoping to host a few more 1-day events at our school and possibly library.
A1 - Community events for us are REAL meet-ups at the end of summer and in mid-winter. Kids who have only played together virtually, get to meet and play together for real. It's pretty special! #MinecraftEDU
A1: We were once the outsiders. Many still feel the same, without being given permission to talk about their passions which include gaming. Any event that brings together be it online or off, is one that we what to be at! #MinecraftEDU
A1 - Nice! Landing @stampylongnose for an event or two on this side of the pond would be epic too! Kids worship him but I'm not saying anything that everyone doesn't already know. #MinecraftEDU@minefaire@Mojang

@MGrundel, @minefaire, @stampylongnose, @minefaire, @Mojang
A2: I'd want to see map builders. Selfishly because I want to get them to make me maps to use in #MinecraftEDU, but I also like to see the creative stories and world designs they come up with and how they do it.
Q2: Minecraft artists. The ones that make thumbnails, profile pix & banners for minecraft youtube sites. There are some really young artists out there. I'm trying to contact one now but he is so busy makin art for these ytrs. @Diyus2#MinecraftEDU
A2: Speaking as a content creator. I think interactivity Minecraft Streamers on Mixer and maybe quality/family oriented entertainment options on Twitch would be good for meet and greets. #minecraftEDU
A2: There are quite a few content creators who mainly use Twitch and Mixer, both livestreaming platforms. I think it would be great to see some of them, asking the community who their favorites are! #MinecraftEDU
A2 Educational lesson planners. It would be great just to have a teacher stage where creative, innovative teachers just got on stage for 10 to 30 minutes to explain/demo their favorite lesson or two. #MinecraftEdu
Mapmakers. They are essentially storytellers, and as a fellow writer, I would love to discuss more with them about how they come up with new ideas for their plots. #MinecraftEDU
A2: There r SO MANY awesome creators out there who assist us with extending our game! Modellers, programmers, modpack makers, voice actors, streamers, the list goes on! We should approach them all. It's all a part of our 'authentic' voice. #MinecraftEDU
A2 Any student creators. Learning from Ss is always inspiring. @CanConnectEd has an awesome student showcase. Could have stayed and learned from them all day long. #kidscanteachus#MinecraftEdu
Agreed. I feel that #MinecraftEDU is such a solid vehicle for delivering content and creation. Encompasses so many skills for developing wholechild and career skills. #MinecraftEDU
A1 I think what I would like to get out of such events are new connections and new ideas, see where others have tried and maybe failed initially and see where we can all improve #minecraftedu
I also want to see and meet more map creators! Excited to meet and hear from @qwertyuiopthepi at #minefaireSF - pretty epic redstone and command block stuff! #minecraftedu
In reply to
@TheTaazMC, @minefaire, @qwertyuiopthepi
Love the idea of having authors there. @seanfaywolfe has impacted a bunch of our Ss and it would be great to meet others writing #MinecraftEdu related stories. They're a hit in our libraries.

My big take-away from the last @minefaire was from @Direwolf20 who spoke on using Twitch to create multiple instances of Minecraft with different mods. Still a little confused, but loved it! #MinecraftEDU

A2 - Maybe the chance to be on a live stream for kids. Using @WatchMixer and make them feel like TV stars or Youtubers. "Guest side-kick" etc... If you can make kids feel like celebs for a moment that is a huge win for @minefaire@Minecraft and #MinecraftEDU

A2: Personally, I would love to meet other creators who show an interest in education within Minecraft and learning some teaching tools to use. As a tool, Minecraft is a good teaching tool for some life lessons in a way children understand. #MinecraftEDU
In fact, having @discordapp being at one of the shows would be pretty cool, showing how they run everything, maybe come up for new updates and such. #MinecraftEDU
! @seanfaywolfe is awesome! He really embodies the spirit of our events - He presents, conducts workshops, and of course does book signings all day. #minecraftedu

Q2: maybe they’re in my face and I missed them, but I want to see content creators in the shape of business professionals making things — architects, urban planners, engineers — and real drafts of their creations that are being sold for real money, even bitcoin 😀 #MinecraftEDU
Yep, right! I find as I am exploring more peeps on @twitch and @watchmixer that there is potential to include them in what we do. Just need to find the magic 'quest'ion to posit! #MinecraftEDU

A1: Minecon, mainly. I expect nothing. I hope they get the love and respect they deserve. The backlash over Minecon Earth was undeserved. You should go to Minecon for Minecon, not capes.
A1 I think what I would like to get out of such events are new connections and new ideas, see where others have tried and maybe failed initially and see where we can all improve #minecraftedu
A2 - I've started streaming my son (7) playing live @WatchMixer of course without chat or any outside input & he feels like an absolute legend. He's even planning his shows & talking as if they can hear for practice. #NextHugeThing#Mixer#MinecraftEDUhttps://t.co/4uEETMc25G
A2: It would be great to connect via Skype with other Minecraft Global Mentors, experts and students from across the globe on a collaborative project using Minecraft on the #UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals #MinecraftEDU#SDGs

Q3 - We strive to engage educators and parents at our events. What would you like to see at a community event (activities, attractions, speakers, workshops, etc) that would help us achieve this mission? What would make an event meaningful to you? #MinecraftEDU

A3: The Curriculum Hackjam at @G4C was a great experience - having students work with teachers and community members was a meaningful way to inspire and craft solid lesson plans. #MinecraftEDU
Q3 - We strive to engage educators and parents at our events. What would you like to see at a community event (activities, attractions, speakers, workshops, etc) that would help us achieve this mission? What would make an event meaningful to you? #MinecraftEDU
I don’t know, that’s more of an individual thing. However, spotlight or not, you can’t demand something from them and call them “terrible” while also waiting for them to drop that new update. It’s like talking down a Fast Food worker (1/2) #MinecraftEDU
A3: I think parents strive to make sure that what their child is involved in is safe. I have yet to see an internet safety workshop with families that make the kids aware of what to do and what not to do online. #MinecraftEDU
A3: I'd also like to see workshops where teachers can share their experiences and have conversations with parents and their kids on how to use #MinecraftEDU in school.
while ordering something from them. It’s a basic matter of respect, and unfortunately, lots of people don’t seem to know what that is anymore. (2/2) #MinecraftEDU
Q3 - We strive to engage educators and parents at our events. What would you like to see at a community event (activities, attractions, speakers, workshops, etc) that would help us achieve this mission? What would make an event meaningful to you? #MinecraftEDU
A3: I liked that there are scheduled trainings for parents & teachers to see how broad the learning possibilities are. Maybe it would be nice to create a finished product that could be saved/documented in some way. Maybe it’s time to bust out #3dprinted#MinecraftEDU creations
A3: Well, not to sound too terrible here, but parents need respite from it all, and later a seat at the table to discuss limits and such. Or at-least, understand that they are not monsters for creating limits! #MinecraftEDU
A3: More online events, training sessions, discussions. Finding ways to expand the realm of possibilities. Change parents minds who believe Minecraft is a waste of time. Provide parent education and tools. #MinecraftEDU
A3 Therein lies the major question. I'm not positive, but at this moment, I'm thinking real educators sharing real experience with real students to help and walk around showing off what they've learned and helping everyone. #MinecraftEDU
Agreed. Would love to meet the developers, programers, and always love meeting authors like @seanfaywolfe and @MarkC_Author who are so generous with their time and always willing to speak w/ Ss. #MinecraftEDU
In reply to
@seanmarnold, @seanfaywolfe, @MarkC_Author
A3: I'd also like to see workshops where teachers can share their experiences and have conversations with parents and their kids on how to use #MinecraftEDU in school.
A3: Maybe a red stone workshop, even though most people who are coming to @minefaire are probably more experienced than me! Or we should have our MF Rising Stars do a panel, and I know a bunch of them want to! #MinecraftEDU
A3: I think letting students show/explain to parents the learning process is important so they can see it’s not “just a game” if that makes sense. #minecraftedu
A3 - Get educators in a space with builders like @askrimshire and @PixelHeadsTeam if they are willing and see how fast #MinecraftEDU can go to the next level. I still think The Dragon Realm is my finest work and due 90% to Andrew's talent! https://t.co/ud9w1wqqvW
I was thinking maybe some sort of workshop between the Rising Stars and the big youtubers being invited, something where the big guys can teach the little guys some things #MinecraftEDU
A3: Any workshops that help educate parents and educators on this game that we spend hours on! Previous Minefaire events did a good job at this and I know my parent was even interested in a few of them! Authors, teachers, youtubers, modders, etc!
A3: And maybe an Empowerment workshop or booth where students/parents/teachers can learn how to get #MinecraftEDU into their schools. Could offer ideas like an after school program as a gateway or business cards to give to potentially interested teachers.
Q3: talking to educators, I find that many are vaguely aware of MC but don’t really have a concept as to how it could be a place where “school happens” — I see a need for scaffolding the “dream big” talk that we can do here with ease #MinecraftEDU
A3 - So maybe some parent round table discussions with educators there and other stakeholders to offer advice not on parenting but myths versus facts and benefits etc....? #MinecraftEDU
A3: Well, not to sound too terrible here, but parents need respite from it all, and later a seat at the table to discuss limits and such. Or at-least, understand that they are not monsters for creating limits! #MinecraftEDU
I have a bunch of ideas that I think would do amazing but it’s super hard to get the point across three tweets so is it okay if I dm one of you afterwards? #MinecraftEDU
A3 Food, coffee and prizes. Just kidding (sort of). Any hands-on workshop is ideal. A good spotlight speaker can bring good energy and ideas. #minecraftedu
Q3 - We strive to engage educators and parents at our events. What would you like to see at a community event (activities, attractions, speakers, workshops, etc) that would help us achieve this mission? What would make an event meaningful to you? #MinecraftEDU

A3: To engage parents and community members in 'Minecraft Family Night' and 'Teach the Teacher' events, I would like to see workshops and activities run by students including @MSMakeCode and other coding, robotics and #STEM activities #MinecraftEDU
A3: maybe to finally listen to the kids they’re constantly affecting??? we’re students, not some sort of tribute state that’s required to bring our schools good test scores. #MinecraftEDU
A3: A challenge with these 1-hour workshops or talks is that #MinecraftEDU is a process that takes a lot of time to learn and invest. We need a community "retreat" A whole weekend of #MinecraftEDU Learning.
A4: As young as @leilaboo215 is, she does quite a lot for the Minefaire event. I think many kids look up to her as a role model for them, as well as the Rising Stars, showing them that they too can get involved and make an impact with Minecraft in the community. #MinecraftEDU
A4: I find that educators almost ONLY pay attention at conferences and events when sessions or panels are Student Led. Let's include more students in our conversations, like this chat! #MinecraftEDU
by actually listening to what students have to say, and acting upon it, there might be better grades and overall mental health. i’m guessing some teachers might not be as stressed trying to figure out how to engage their students, too. #MinecraftEDU
A3: A challenge with these 1-hour workshops or talks is that #MinecraftEDU is a process that takes a lot of time to learn and invest. We need a community "retreat" A whole weekend of #MinecraftEDU Learning.
Some times its easier to learn when you can do the teaching. I think allow the students to teach is a great idea!! And to also listen to what they have to say. :) #MinecraftEDU
A4 That Ss can just as easily become experts in something that can impact learning in a positive way. Celebrating Ss can only help build their enthusiasm around learning. It proves we want to listen to them. #MinecraftEdu

If I were to propose a presentation, would it be by myself or with a group? If so can us rising star's know who was accepted so that we can plan ahead of time? #MinecraftEDU
These were some of my favorite at @NYSCATE#nyscate17. A good mix is a recipe for a successful conference. Love the Ss panels and sessions. #minecraftedu
Q4: I have never had the privilege of attending a #Minefaire but if I am understanding correctly there are a lot of students presenting. I think this would be a great change for ed conferences. Let students show how to use tech in the classroom. #MinecraftEdu
Q4: Minecraft community events value student voice and encourage participation of students throughout the events. In fact, @leilaboo215 is the Junior Producer and manages the @youtube Rising Star program! What can education conferences learn from this model? #MinecraftEDU
A4: the moving away from teacher-centric school comes slowly but surely, although the standardized testing “renaissance” in the last two decades gummed things up — student voice in a traditional setting is often but a squeak — convert local districts, one by one #MinecraftEDU
A4: The most important thing here is WE MUST ACT and not just listen to student voices. I find many walk away excited at the prospects, only to be disheartened when administration rejects their ideas. How to solve? #MinecraftEDU

I took my son with me last year to ISTE to present about #Minecraft. I’m not sure that’s what you are referring to, but they do have some student presenters. #MinecraftEdu
A4: Minecraft community events value student voice and encourage student participation. Student voice is very important in education and mustn't be overlooked in conferences. Kudos #MinecraftEDU for including student voice! @leilaboo215 is a leading example and rising star!
I just had another massive brain explosion that you inspired. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a joint panel/conversation of Rising Stars and educators and students about how we could all help each other be awesomer (it's a word)? Just a thought maybe. #MinecraftEDU

I'm so excited to see so much #stuvoice in the discussion tonight! Thanks to all the @minefaire#risingstars and other incredible kids that are participating in the chat tonight #minecraftedu
