Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
G'morning Di from Wisconsin.
Good morning . Stacey from NJ. Happy Halloween!
Is anybody else's Tweetdeck running slow?
Good morning! This has to be my least favorite day/week as an elementary school teacher!
Nope, mine is fine. Sorry1
I have SOOOO many thoughts on this question. https://t.co/RXQLA2xWbc
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
Hello friends! Welcome to Monday. I trust everyone had a great weekend, yes? David MS Principal from VA here.
Agreed! One day at a time.
What a great question! https://t.co/4QEB65VehU
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
No but my Chrome keeps freezing for a few seconds today. Nuts finally come off of this Google vehicle. ^_^
Ok. schools become silos that eat themselves from the inside out.
Love that my Tech Integration Specialists PLN was just discussing this yesterday. https://t.co/AMNlG42SRu
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
Hi
Carl here.
We have to share ideas and learn new things.
We only get like $125 a year to go to conferences. Not much at all
But it's the Ss favorite! That means it's a great way to make relevant connections for lessons
I am estimating 7 days. But, it did start with a sub 4.5 hours of sleep... bring on Halloween
Ts should get to network with colleagues from all around the world and gain different perspectives to enhance their own practices
I have always believed that Ts r the ones on the front line. What better way to get innovative instruction to our Ss?
Good morning The excitement of Ss counting down the minutes to trick or treating awaits us today! Authentic Elapsed time lessons!
Wow. Lucky to get anywhere on that money
So cool we pre-discussed this question yesterday.
Education has always been about networking. Staying updated. How else to expose Ts to latest trends and methods?
Good Morning Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. Kevin, 7th gr history teacher form NW NJ checking in
Sending teachers to conferences allows them to see 1st hand what is coming. Also helps build school culture.
I wouldn't even know about those conferences if it wasn't for Twitter.
Ts need to attend conferences to expand professional learning network coupled with hearing cutting edge research on practice
Good morning everyone! Happy to with you!
Good morning - Marifran, hs librarian from NY and historically, I've paid my own way to conferences (w a couple of exceptions)
True, I tend not to use it bc of all the hoops we have to jump through.
Also, conferences show that the admin is invested in a particular teacher. Teachers feeling invested in makes them better.
I remember. Actually, the day after Halloween was the most weird. Oh the impact of sugar on edu! https://t.co/BzFGOZFzzp
Good morning! This has to be my least favorite day/week as an elementary school teacher!
Good morning and love the profile pic!
The best learners make the best teachers. Those opportunities lead to innovation in the classroom--not to mention reenergizing Ts!
need to go to conferences because we need to connect to other teachers!
I was thinking the same thing.
Sad, Not much of an investment.
Some big conferences leave me dead inside. All vendors and repeated sessions. Love smaller, homegrown ones, like
Thank you. Tried to change it and realized I don't have a lot of pics with just me. lol
Best PD I do is talking to people.
Hmmmm...I am so curious about this statement
Conferences also allow teachers to see that they are part of something MUCH bigger than their school systems.
I always say that going to state science convention my 2nd yr teaching was like going from b/w to technicolor in Wizard of Oz.
I have this on tap for a PDT mtg in my district - think few ppl kno abt opportunities "out there"
Even paying our own way is not always ok during the school year. Subs are hard to find is the reasoning of admin.
Happy Halloween !
Brian, HS principal from Mass.
Definitely shows Ts that school is investing in learning not only for Ss but for Ts as well to grow as learning community
We only get $ for conferences our admin wants us to attend and then they ask for "outcomes" that can be quantified.
So Ts can learn new things & bring it back to inspire others. Also think it should happen for diverse grip. Not just select few.
Teachers, over time, can forget that this is a craft not just a job. Conferences can refresh that.
If teachers never step out of your building, they may think they are pushing the envelope and yet be behind the eight ball.
I am so thankful for Twitter. It has taken my pd to a whole new level. I feel it is a gateway to more PD
We are in a finite pool of when we only stay in our own buildings; new ideas and new voices; we need that that energy!
Conference opportunities can inspire, motivate, reinvigorate and provide new ideas for teachers. Hard-working Ts deserve it!
I think some districts feel the big conferences are just a day off. Forget it if it's not in driving distance.
I would love to send more Ts to conferences - but we can rarely afford the cost of ticket, conferrence, hotels
I imagine networking is one huge benefit in addition to the relevant PD presented. Hope to go to more in the future.
This is exactly why!! But the big conferences need to find ways to be more accessible. https://t.co/Gjj2TN9XWr
Ts need to attend conferences to expand professional learning network coupled with hearing cutting edge research on practice
Great point. Ts need to see our commitment https://t.co/BununeYu4h
Also, conferences show that the admin is invested in a particular teacher. Teachers feeling invested in makes them better.
How is somebody supposed to learn when all they see is the same thing day in day out?
In my parents home town you have a picnic in your family tomb today. Share a meal with the dead relatives
TN is fantastic. Just need the Lindes crew here to brighten things up a bit more.
oh yeah, $$ is just one piece of the puzzle for sure
Exactly. And it should happen for Ts across grade levels/curriculum areas.
Yes, and not to mention, it's just really fun!
Why? To enhance networking among peers - lifeblood of any profession. Essential to share best practices
Wow. Morbidly interesting. Guess it rules out folks who cremate their dead, eh?
Without connecting with others thru conf. the best/ worst of what I am part of in the school remains on ice. Never good .
I would love to go back to NCTE, NWP, or try out a new one, but I cannot afford it on my own.
When Ts get to go to conferences, it gives opp to grow self + share w/ colleagues & grow others
Conferences provide personalized PD. Ts pick the sessions. Practical examples, turnkey opps., and F2F discussion.
This is so true! Many of the "new" things I'm doing in my classroom were inspired by some of you! https://t.co/2grySbepSH
I am so thankful for Twitter. It has taken my pd to a whole new level. I feel it is a gateway to more PD
can't quantify inspiration and connection, which are some of the best "outcomes" sometimes!
Yes, Ed conferences are crazy expensive considering that they know what teacher make.
Ts also must turnkey the conference info to school community/PLC in order to share in the teaching and learning process
If admins want to see innovation in the classroom then Ts need to be released to see innovative ideas!
Aside from the connection and networking for the teacher and his or her school, the learning can be transformative.
Just have to bring the ashes along I guess
Sending Ts to conferences is invigorating & motivating. They come back with renewed energy. Worth so much!
Honestly, if it wasn't for twitter, I would never know about GRA, genius hour, March book madness etc
A great option for edcons is to connect with and see if they are having a summit in your area.
When I send a T this a requirement, bring things back to share. More bang 4 the buck https://t.co/OAtOJ0s69E
So Ts can learn new things & bring it back to inspire others. Also think it should happen for diverse grip. Not just select few.
Just to hear what other great things are happening beyond the walls of my clssrm allow me to brainstorm ideas for the good of my Ss
Hmm. Gives family bonding time a whole new meaning. Cool.
Yep! I we wouldn't be connected!
Also, every day I get to hear from you all. You inspire me every day to do better
Ts need to attend prof conference b/c they are professionals learning all the time & they need to present to others
Agreed! organizing and unconferenes locally can provide prof capacity building opps + networking opps
For me conferences open my eyes to happenings in the prof away from my corner of the universe - you don't kno what you don't kno
Truth https://t.co/4j447GxwQZ
Yes, Ed conferences are crazy expensive considering that they know what teacher make.
Small, local confs too like and I'm going to this week! It is where you find your tribe! https://t.co/iVtk8HJIje
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
I'm admin and would happily sub for a T if they were paying their way
Going to a conference opens up realm of possibilities; sometimes we don't know what we don't know, either.
I wouldn't have fought for Skype, twitter or kidblog.
Also, I get ideas from you guys everyday. And I turn to you when i need help. Meeting you at a con was very helpful.
Conferences remind me that I am a professional, am building something of value and belong to a squad . teachers forget tht smtimes.
Indeed! If we are opening our doors to collab with peers in our schools, a big conference will not be much help.
Agreed, I always expect that teachers share what they've learned at conferences.
Yes, this it the way we've been going. Ts love them
Big conferences give people an opportunity to meet & learn with incredible educators & learnthat they can be those educators too
Good Morning ! Happy Halloween Monday! :)
What I like about twitter is no paperwork, I get to decide what I do, and it is available on my time.
is now trending in USA, ranking 2
The most important part for me is connecting! The connections I have made have helped me grow as a teacher, a leader and a human.
I know-I've had to beg, fill out forms, etc to take 1/2 day to travel to a weekend conf that I pd for myself. Discouraging.
Conferences offer opportunities for collaboration and new learning in a setting that is likely less distracting their own bldg.
I am celebrating all I learned last week. So much to share.
offers great, free online conferences accessible to anyone with internet access. Ts collaborate via twitter
Yes, there is a limit on who has access to PD, and that, I cannot abide by. Why NJ is happening 5/20/17
It's all about possibility. Connecting w like-minded ppl. Attendance leads to creativity, desire for more https://t.co/HDRgRysw76
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
I recently returned from a conference and came rejuvenated & inspired!
I think the important thing is to come back & share. A lot of times that doesn't happen for whatever reason & it defeats purpose.
YES!!!! https://t.co/nZKXlzPHoY
This is exactly why!! But the big conferences need to find ways to be more accessible. https://t.co/Gjj2TN9XWr
Ts need to attend conferences to expand professional learning network coupled with hearing cutting edge research on practice
Yup! Same I get what I need on the internet.
If it wasn't for all of you, I would have never heard about and all the great books he publishes!
Until my 1st conference I honestly didn't understand the big picture.
So true! The learning & connections through twitter are amazing https://t.co/YYFfjUQzwd
I am so thankful for Twitter. It has taken my pd to a whole new level. I feel it is a gateway to more PD
and you can steer the discussion to what you need to know
Plus it helps connect educators from across the world. Lot of collab planning can take place. Job opportunities 2.
Because sometimes all it takes is one speaker, one idea and a feeling of belonging to change their world
always explore w a little trepidation & my breath catches when I see the - it's the educational scroll-down
Difficult to send Ts 2National conference with budgets so tight. We have set up more regional opportunities. Good thinkers in Wisco
If admins want to see innovation in the classroom then Ts need to be released to see innovative ideas!
— Neena Grosven…
Yes! So many problems solved at 5:30AM
? I think I belong there! Must know more! https://t.co/SnWsDMXh15
Yes, there is a limit on who has access to PD, and that, I cannot abide by. Why NJ is happening 5/20/17
Twitter has helped me see the bigger picture as well. https://t.co/ZBPM2pdOF7
Until my 1st conference I honestly didn't understand the big picture.
Ideally, conference should offer interactive & informative wkshps. The worst is when they DON'T: wated time & $$$
MORNING!!! How are you?!! You guys doing anything fun for Halloween today?!
Talking with all of you have given me so much confidence that I am on the cutting edge and know a bit.
I hear there might be pork roll... lol
In my case I don't have to sleep worrying
A national conference was the catalyst to send my first professional Tweet...and jump started all of my PD madness via this venue.
The lack of access for all is why we started and why I love edCamps. Great ways to share and grow.
I agree Stacey! The connections are the best part!!
and we'll be at one next weekend - right? Right?
I don't think it's coincidence that rise of edcamps has come at time conferences have gotten so expensive; that & social media
We are accountable to this profession, not just our home districts. Our boss is the future: our future.
Indeed! The orgs that will remain relevant will do this - not just an ed issue either.
Also, admin need to go to those conferences as well and then make an effort to drive the innovation.
This Q is why I love so much! The price is right & it's so organic. No high-priced keynotes, but I learn & that's the point.
Don't forget or . https://t.co/EnuNBrBNcl
Some big conferences leave me dead inside. All vendors and repeated sessions. Love smaller, homegrown ones, like
Someone's paying for their Ts to go because conferences still happen each year. It's not mine, though. https://t.co/ZSElPS8WBR
Yes, Ed conferences are crazy expensive considering that they know what teacher make.
Haha - that's the truth! I always forget that part! lol
mmm...Great idea but not likely to work this year!
True, but I have to say that when I first attended annual convention, no feeling like seeing all those Ts
that definitely gets me upset, especially when they charge presenters for conference fees.
Oh My go I love how you put that. Thats where we all need to be as teachers.
good morning, friend! you're sending me to my iPad to check out the bitmojis
No way. This guy's a way better dancer than I am!
To connect and see the possibilities! https://t.co/0DohQD39bc
Morning !! Big conferences: ISTE, ASCD, SXSW, many T's never get to go - Why should schools send Ts to more opportunities like these?
I also hate when you LIKE what you have learned and are ready to go -- then they try to sell you something
I love conferences where I get to pick and choose the break outs. Makes it so fun because I'm choosing my learning.
I always try to get at least one takeaway from each conference that I attend.
Thank goodness for teachmeetNJ and edcamp!
Agreed, I've been to a few and am hoping to attend ISTE this summer!
I agree with ....Twitter is like participating in a conference regularly...and I can be in my p.j.s !!!😊😊😊
it's a crime that ISTE charges a presenter the same $$ as an attendee. Makes me never want to present there.
Spot on! If I am not following-up by implementing what I learned (big conf or otherwise) I am part of the problem.
Also, conference was held at a high school on fall break; hotel/convention cntr mtgs drive up costs
How do you avoid information overload with all the amazingness you learn on Twitter?
I always want to create this in my classroom, but I haven't been totally successful. https://t.co/or754NHobM
I love conferences where I get to pick and choose the break outs. Makes it so fun because I'm choosing my learning.
Remember to find alternate resources to pay 2. We ask r PTA to fund 3 Ts for the state MS conference each year
ISTE is on my list for when kids are older. Long term travel in the summer can't happen now, but will!
Good question! I don't. https://t.co/WXX4LTsTUp
How do you avoid information overload with all the amazingness you learn on Twitter?
Coke, help make our conferences amazing, share the amazing things you know, it will cost you
Ok folks. Thats all for me. Gotta run. Be well.
So true. We don't have room in this profession for primadonnas. Be a roadie, not a rockstar!
I would love to, but with 2 kids in college, cannot justify.
Interestingly, I went to a few times, then stopped. Why am I more interested in natl conf, than local? Anyone else?
School districts should be intentional about whom they send to conf, not nec Ts over admin but person who'll get most and share most
Remember when it was considered rude to walk out of sessions or just take the handouts? Now we call that
Have an awesome awesome crew. Off to get ready for Halloween parade. Eng Ts have great group costume.
Best wishes for many treats and few tricks for you all today!
Would you travel to a different school? Lol.
I love you.
https://t.co/1tVG70I3ed
I'm admin and would happily sub for a T if they were paying their way
I love to go with teachers, learn together and connect on a different level
Have a great Monday everyone! Happy Halloween!!!
Happy Halloween! Thoughts w elem colleagues (Ss w wonky candy bellies) and HS folks (Ss w wonky costume choices). We can do this!
EdCamp Green Bay coming this weekend. Thank goodness for EdCamps https://t.co/XboWr6i5TA
I don't think it's coincidence that rise of edcamps has come at time conferences have gotten so expensive; that & social media
Lucky enough to have my Board pay for us who are presenting to attend for 2 days and cover OT days.
Actually, Susan, that would be a wonderful learning opportunity!
Meeting the "top people" in education shows you how they are just regular people willing to try & willing to share- makes it doable
Good luck today! Bookfair, book character day and Halloween!
Off to get some steps before school! Have a fabulous day and I because I get to wake up with my friends each day!
After a conference I think Ts need a day to sit, reflect, take notes - so much info is easy to forget
Have a great day everyone!
exactly! Find what fits your needs and lights your passion.
I don't. I suffer from it constantly. Not to mention, trying to curate resources and lessons! https://t.co/CnF7jSzkwJ
How do you avoid information overload with all the amazingness you learn on Twitter?
Ugh. Way to support the team! Makes you want to go above and beyond, right? And bet you feel appreciated! https://t.co/YIbY8rAPBH
I know-I've had to beg, fill out forms, etc to take 1/2 day to travel to a weekend conf that I pd for myself. Discouraging.
Agreed! Reflection is important!
Happy Halloween . Have a great day, all!
Thank you - I'll have a look at this

I'm not thrilled by NJEA conference past few years.

Show mercy to those on earth , so who is in heaven will have mercy on you .
Admins: What successful ways have you found to fund conferences? (ps: I don't consider Ts paying themselves successful)
Encouraging your Ts to present at conferences builds leaders and morale. If you have great people in your building- flaunt it!

this seems like a recipe for disaster. Any tips to NOT injure yourself?
would love to know any responses to this ? you received.
