Welcome to #OrEdChat! Tonight we discuss Chapter 13 of the Innovators Mindset. Who are you? Where are you from? What't your favorite winter activity? #IMMOOC
Hey #OrEdChat crew!! i've missed you!! i'm Heather Marrs 3rd grade teacher in Southern Oregon. My fav is sitting inside drinking hot chocolate and watching it snow (I hope it will this year!)
Hi all! Stefanie from Illinois. 8th ELA and team lead. Just got the call of a snow (ice) day, so I'm staying up late to join in! I ❤️ running when it's snowing. Very peaceful. #oredchat
A1: I love using @Seesaw for digital portfolios. I love that it shows growth of the student from the beginning and can be enjoyed by the family. #Oredchat
A1 I love @Seesaw where my gr 2s can keep demonstrating their learning in various ways over the year. It's always amazing how much growth occurs from the start of the year #oredchat
A1: After a probability/stats unit, I had Ss create their own board game and analyze the math behind the game and create graphs based off results. Sooo much fun! #OrEdChat
A1: love using #BookSnaps (inferences, figurative language) #sketchnotes (use them for assessing summarizing), just did character autopsies and loved them #oredchat
I love Kahoot and the Jumble part is good for comprehension (sequence of events). I just wish there was something more than multiple choice format for answers #oredchat
A2: Regional Challenges at end of each unit allows Ss to share what they know to an authentic audience. Food truck teams create imovie trailers, etc & prepare a dish that reflects flavors & tech of that region. Some even sing a jingle! #oredchat
A2: My students use @Seesaw in many different ways to develop their voice. They also have a writing journal in @BookCreatorApp that we share on Seesaw. The choice that I give them also helps them develop their voice! #OrEdChat
https://t.co/PaPGR1waxA is a free online resource to create and manage online quizzes. Your students will be able to take quizzes on any computer connected to the Internet. I've used it for years. :) #OrEdChat

@MViTDiTeach, @GetKahoot, @PearDeck, @RecapThat
A2: My kinders make a lot of inventions in our #MakerSpace . I love that they have choice in what to do and they want to make things. Then they tell me how they made it & we record it. Amazing things happening in little friends! #OrEdChat
A2: If Ss could see our own learning, which mine do, then that opens the door for them to see that the learning never stops. We are always learning. #OrEdChat
A2 I like to design lessons/assessments on the spot with my Ss. What are some ways we can demonstrate our learning? What are some expectations we can set together? #oredchat
Q2. My students like to create projects to show their creativity and knowledge of tech. Such as a report presented in Keynote or Aurasma with voice over or movie trailer for a summary. #oredchat
A2: Having students tackle real world problems through project-based learning, for example, allows students voice in how they demonstrate mastery as well as what solution they believe to be best. #OrEdchat
A2: Ss use @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, different Google applications, #sketchnotes, having them ask questions that guide our discussions and learning (no year is ever the same), using #gamification side quests allow voice as well #oredchat
A3: Ss willing to try new things, being able to access more than just the basic answer are most successful, have to throw in grades but not biggest measure for me #OrEdChat
A3: So many ways! Success looks different for each of my Ss and depends on what we are working on. But just because success looks diff doesn't mean I don't have high expectations for my Ss! :) #OrEdChat
A2: I answered last week's. Here's this weeks. :) I include S choice and opinions on a lot of what we do, and on their websites that we create, they have a Passion Page, where they curate information and create content geared toward what they love. #OrEdChat
A3: How have they grown in their learning? Are they kind? Have they matured? Are they willing to take chances? #socialemotionallearning is imperative as well. #OrEdChat
A1: I find that I really know what my students know when they make a video of their learning. Flipgrid, Screencastify, & WeVideo are my favorites. Projects also show me what they know.#oredchat
A3: various ways. Pre and post tests, presentations, tangible products, digital application, etc. However a student can show me they have mastered a standard. #OrEdchat
A3 Success for me is when my Ss try similar things that we did at school (science experiments, etc.) They find a passion for reading, writing, math, etc. #oredchat
A3: Depends. Success may be we learned two more word roots than last time. Success may be that we figured out how to use a particular tool for an assignment. Success may be a S created a #Sketchnotes from scratch for the first time. I measure it daily and S specific. #OrEdChat
Q3. I try to celebrate small successes and remember that we educate the whole child. Some success can be social or emotional or procedural and not show up by typical measures. #oredchat
A3: This one is hard. I want to show that GPA isn't a big deal. A S who got a C might be more successful than a S getting an A depending on their growth. Self-reflection is a good measure of success. "At first I thought...but now I know..." #OrEdChat
A3: success can be Ss willing to try something a bit out of their comfort zone, asking questions, having discussions w peers, creating, risk-taking, really being present #oredchat
#oredchat For many of my students they have had a tough time at school. Just getting them to WANT to come to school is the first big battle and the first sign of success to me!
A4: Yes! We are moving toward more S choice in lots of areas, allowing Ts to try new things like #FlexibleSeating , and we are working hard to share the good through social media. #OrEdChat
A4: Our school is having a "Celebration Walk" this week. It puts me out of my comfort zone yet it sounds like it's on the spectrum of innovation. #OrEdChat
A4. I teach in an elementary tech magnet. We teach kids to be creative and systematic with technology. I love our new @legoboost and unplugged coding we are integrating this year. Engaging and innovative for early grades. #oredchat
A4: yes! Admin who trusts Ts and empowers us to take risks like #gamification in my classroom, flexible seating, social media platforms, allows time for Ts to collaborate, using sbl ideas, so many things #oredchat
A5: Still working on Ss reflections to push their learning, want more Ss to see possibilities of embracing failure to reach higher levels of success #OrEdChat
A5: I really want to try out standards-based grading, but definitely not ready to try it this upcoming semester. Anyone here have experience with it?#OrEdChat
A5: tried implementing a pineapple board this year, but it hasn't gotten off the ground. Would love to get Ts involved and invested what other Ts were doing, maybe using the Ts tweet something from their day idea #oredchat
A5: We started the Pineapple chart and twitter challenges within our SLC. Our St leaders deliver twitter fairy treats to those who post. Slowly gaining momentum. Trying to be patient. #oredchat
A5: So many things to do! Not enough time to conquer it all! My next goal is parent/community involvement. Have an idea for a "HS Cafe Night" held in our library which has a Starbucks feel, add coffee/cocoa/pastries and invite parents to view S work from all classes. #OrEdChat
A5: Hard to say. I feel like there are so many things I want to do better at, so many more I would like to do more of, and then so much I still want to learn. #oredchat
A5: As a parent of a child in our school, I really want us to get our school on board with getting connected and committing to share with each other. Then through this we can build a stronger community and learn together! #OrEdchat
Q5. I always seek to improve. Personally, I am planning to work on providing strong math intervention that helps build number sense and is fun for students schoolwide. #oredchat
This is my second year using the ideas of SBG even though our district isn't an SBG district, so our school has to equate the rubrics to grades still. I wouldn't go back, but we're always learning, reflecting, and revising #oredchat
