  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:37 PM EST
A1 I love @Seesaw where my gr 2s can keep demonstrating their learning in various ways over the year. It's always amazing how much growth occurs from the start of the year #oredchat
  • howie_hua Jan 7 @ 11:37 PM EST
A1: After a probability/stats unit, I had Ss create their own board game and analyze the math behind the game and create graphs based off results. Sooo much fun! #OrEdChat
  • hmarrs24 - Moderator Jan 7 @ 11:38 PM EST
A1: Lots of projects, menus, and of course developing our digital portfolios on @Seesaw! #OrEdChat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:38 PM EST

  • LeachTeach4 Jan 7 @ 11:39 PM EST
A1 contined: I also like student reflection. #OrEdChat

    In reply to @DrBody4Life
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:40 PM EST
Q2: What do you do that allows students to develop a voice? #OrEdChat #IMMOOC
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:40 PM EST
A1: love using #BookSnaps (inferences, figurative language) #sketchnotes (use them for assessing summarizing), just did character autopsies and loved them #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:40 PM EST
    More info about quizstar? #OrEdChat
    In reply to @SteinbrinkLaura, @GetKahoot, @PearDeck, @RecapThat

    In reply to @hmarrs24
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:41 PM EST
I love Kahoot and the Jumble part is good for comprehension (sequence of events). I just wish there was something more than multiple choice format for answers #oredchat
    In reply to @hlogananderson
  • KathiSueSummers Jan 7 @ 11:41 PM EST
A2 I use @padlet, @flipgrid and #sketchnotes Ss are feeling more comfortable using these tools. #OrEdChat
  • LeachTeach4 Jan 7 @ 11:41 PM EST
A2: Student choice is part of developing voice. I try to offer options, options, options...be creative in your responses :-) #oredchat
  • tishrich Jan 7 @ 11:41 PM EST
A2: Regional Challenges at end of each unit allows Ss to share what they know to an authentic audience. Food truck teams create imovie trailers, etc & prepare a dish that reflects flavors & tech of that region. Some even sing a jingle! #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:41 PM EST
A2: Ss blog, create vids thru @Flipgrid & @Screencastify Ss choice in how to demo learning #OrEdChat
  • hmarrs24 - Moderator Jan 7 @ 11:42 PM EST
A2: My students use @Seesaw in many different ways to develop their voice. They also have a writing journal in @BookCreatorApp that we share on Seesaw. The choice that I give them also helps them develop their voice! #OrEdChat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:42 PM EST
https://t.co/PaPGR1waxA is a free online resource to create and manage online quizzes. Your students will be able to take quizzes on any computer connected to the Internet. I've used it for years. :) #OrEdChat
    In reply to @MViTDiTeach, @GetKahoot, @PearDeck, @RecapThat
  • EdTechRanger Jan 7 @ 11:43 PM EST
Ken from Ca here! I teach Sci & Engineering. I love all snow activities as long as there is a warm place to hang out after! #oredchat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:43 PM EST
A2: My kinders make a lot of inventions in our #MakerSpace . I love that they have choice in what to do and they want to make things. Then they tell me how they made it & we record it. Amazing things happening in little friends! #OrEdChat
  • howie_hua Jan 7 @ 11:43 PM EST
A2: When developing lesson plans, I think about how the Ss will generate the answer, not the T telling them what to think. #OrEdChat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:43 PM EST
A2: If Ss could see our own learning, which mine do, then that opens the door for them to see that the learning never stops. We are always learning. #OrEdChat
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:44 PM EST
A2 I like to design lessons/assessments on the spot with my Ss. What are some ways we can demonstrate our learning? What are some expectations we can set together? #oredchat
  • hlogananderson Jan 7 @ 11:44 PM EST
Q2. My students like to create projects to show their creativity and knowledge of tech. Such as a report presented in Keynote or Aurasma with voice over or movie trailer for a summary. #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:44 PM EST
Love that you are bringing Ss in on the assessments! #OrEdChat
    In reply to @LannySaretsky
  • tishrich Jan 7 @ 11:44 PM EST
A2: Bakery Missions are launched each unit based on essential Q's and allow Ss to demo learning in their own creative ways. #oredchat
  • DrBody4Life Jan 7 @ 11:44 PM EST
A2: Having students tackle real world problems through project-based learning, for example, allows students voice in how they demonstrate mastery as well as what solution they believe to be best. #OrEdchat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:45 PM EST
Q3: How do you measure student success? #OrEdChat #IMMOOC
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:45 PM EST
    love it! #oredchat
    In reply to @hlogananderson
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:46 PM EST
A2: Ss use @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, different Google applications, #sketchnotes, having them ask questions that guide our discussions and learning (no year is ever the same), using #gamification side quests allow voice as well #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:46 PM EST
A3: Ss willing to try new things, being able to access more than just the basic answer are most successful, have to throw in grades but not biggest measure for me #OrEdChat
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:46 PM EST
I find it takes the potential apprehension out of 'assessment'. We do it in whole group, small groups and individually too. #oredchat
    In reply to @MViTDiTeach
  • hmarrs24 - Moderator Jan 7 @ 11:46 PM EST
A3: So many ways! Success looks different for each of my Ss and depends on what we are working on. But just because success looks diff doesn't mean I don't have high expectations for my Ss! :) #OrEdChat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:46 PM EST
A2: I answered last week's. Here's this weeks. :) I include S choice and opinions on a lot of what we do, and on their websites that we create, they have a Passion Page, where they curate information and create content geared toward what they love. #OrEdChat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:47 PM EST
A3: How have they grown in their learning? Are they kind? Have they matured? Are they willing to take chances? #socialemotionallearning is imperative as well. #OrEdChat
  • LeachTeach4 Jan 7 @ 11:47 PM EST
A3: Student success is when they do something they think they can't and when they improve at something that is hard for them. #OrEdChat
  • tishrich Jan 7 @ 11:47 PM EST
A3: Student success to me is when they are empowered to make learning their own. They own it! #oredchat
  • EdTechRanger Jan 7 @ 11:47 PM EST
A1: I find that I really know what my students know when they make a video of their learning. Flipgrid, Screencastify, & WeVideo are my favorites. Projects also show me what they know.#oredchat
  • DrBody4Life Jan 7 @ 11:48 PM EST
A3: various ways. Pre and post tests, presentations, tangible products, digital application, etc. However a student can show me they have mastered a standard. #OrEdchat
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:48 PM EST
A3 Success for me is when my Ss try similar things that we did at school (science experiments, etc.) They find a passion for reading, writing, math, etc. #oredchat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
A3: Depends. Success may be we learned two more word roots than last time. Success may be that we figured out how to use a particular tool for an assignment. Success may be a S created a #Sketchnotes from scratch for the first time. I measure it daily and S specific. #OrEdChat
  • hlogananderson Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
Q3. I try to celebrate small successes and remember that we educate the whole child. Some success can be social or emotional or procedural and not show up by typical measures. #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
Not easy. Would love to have narrative report cards where grades aren't involved. Teach elem so it would be easier than in MS or HS #OrEdChat
    In reply to @LeachTeach4
  • howie_hua Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
A3: This one is hard. I want to show that GPA isn't a big deal. A S who got a C might be more successful than a S getting an A depending on their growth. Self-reflection is a good measure of success. "At first I thought...but now I know..." #OrEdChat
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
A3: success can be Ss willing to try something a bit out of their comfort zone, asking questions, having discussions w peers, creating, risk-taking, really being present #oredchat
  • 2014ORTOY Jan 7 @ 11:49 PM EST
#oredchat For many of my students they have had a tough time at school. Just getting them to WANT to come to school is the first big battle and the first sign of success to me!
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:50 PM EST
Q4: Is your school making an effort towards an Innovating Mindset? How? #OrEdChat #IMMOOC
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:50 PM EST
That's such an important one. Sometimes we got too lost in the academic side of things #oredchat #socialemotionallearning
    In reply to @kinderkfoley
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:50 PM EST
Bravo! Definitely needs to be various ways. Ss are all different :) #OrEdChat
    In reply to @DrBody4Life
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:51 PM EST
    Yes! #littlethings #OrEdChat
    In reply to @2014ORTOY
  • hmarrs24 - Moderator Jan 7 @ 11:51 PM EST
A4: In some ways yes but we could definitely make more of an effort to go in that direction. #OrEdChat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:51 PM EST
A4: YES! We have #makerspace, less stress on traditional classes, many embracing #flexibleseating & #PBL #OrEdChat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:52 PM EST
A4: Yes! We are moving toward more S choice in lots of areas, allowing Ts to try new things like #FlexibleSeating , and we are working hard to share the good through social media. #OrEdChat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:52 PM EST
A4: Our school is having a "Celebration Walk" this week. It puts me out of my comfort zone yet it sounds like it's on the spectrum of innovation. #OrEdChat
  • LeachTeach4 Jan 7 @ 11:52 PM EST
A4: Baby steps and in small pockets...gotta keep trying! #OrEdChat
  • tishrich Jan 7 @ 11:52 PM EST
A4: Love this video our district created a few years back based on @gcouros Innovator's Mantra. Moving forward step by step. https://t.co/C2WTVHFvW0 #oredchat #immooc
  • hlogananderson Jan 7 @ 11:53 PM EST
A4. I teach in an elementary tech magnet. We teach kids to be creative and systematic with technology. I love our new @legoboost and unplugged coding we are integrating this year. Engaging and innovative for early grades. #oredchat
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:53 PM EST
Thanks! It's all @hmarrs24 fault that I have one. :) It's addicting! Make one! #OrEdChat
    In reply to @supervxn, @hmarrs24
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:53 PM EST
A4: yes! Admin who trusts Ts and empowers us to take risks like #gamification in my classroom, flexible seating, social media platforms, allows time for Ts to collaborate, using sbl ideas, so many things #oredchat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:54 PM EST
    Awesome! #OrEdChat
    In reply to @hlogananderson, @legoboost
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:54 PM EST
A4 Yes there is less focus on traditional classes and more focus on students' needs and interests. #oredchat
  • howie_hua Jan 7 @ 11:54 PM EST
A4: Eh...yeah? Wish we would embrace tech more, but we are currently revamping the curriculum to prepare future Ts even better. #OrEdChat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:55 PM EST
Q5: What area do you want to work on mext? #OrEdChat #IMMOOC
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:55 PM EST
That looks like something worth checking out. Are they created out of lego and then coded to get them to function? #oredchat
    In reply to @hlogananderson, @legoboost
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
Mext, next, it's all good, 🤣🤣#OrEdChat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
A5: Still working on Ss reflections to push their learning, want more Ss to see possibilities of embracing failure to reach higher levels of success #OrEdChat
  • LeachTeach4 Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
A5: I'm trying to figure out how to "work" my grade book to fit my workshop style. :-) #OrEdChat
  • howie_hua Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
A5: I really want to try out standards-based grading, but definitely not ready to try it this upcoming semester. Anyone here have experience with it?#OrEdChat
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
A5: tried implementing a pineapple board this year, but it hasn't gotten off the ground. Would love to get Ts involved and invested what other Ts were doing, maybe using the Ts tweet something from their day idea #oredchat
  • tishrich Jan 7 @ 11:56 PM EST
A5: We started the Pineapple chart and twitter challenges within our SLC. Our St leaders deliver twitter fairy treats to those who post. Slowly gaining momentum. Trying to be patient. #oredchat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:57 PM EST
Let me know when you figure it out! #OrEdChat
    In reply to @LeachTeach4
  • KathiSueSummers Jan 7 @ 11:57 PM EST
A5 I want to continue working of Voice and choice with Ss. Many are feeling comfortable with tools introduced, but I want them to OWN IT!!! #OrEdChat
  • MViTDiTeach Jan 7 @ 11:57 PM EST
Not a fan. Parents don't understand it, too subjective. Have used it for 3 years now. Am hoping we are changing for the upcoming school year #OrEdChat
    In reply to @howie_hua
  • SteinbrinkLaura Jan 7 @ 11:57 PM EST
A5: So many things to do! Not enough time to conquer it all! My next goal is parent/community involvement. Have an idea for a "HS Cafe Night" held in our library which has a Starbucks feel, add coffee/cocoa/pastries and invite parents to view S work from all classes. #OrEdChat
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:58 PM EST
Thanks for joining us at #OrEdChat Come back next week and bring your friends! We'll wrap up the #InnovatorsMindset
  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:58 PM EST
A5: Hard to say. I feel like there are so many things I want to do better at, so many more I would like to do more of, and then so much I still want to learn. #oredchat
  • hmarrs24 - Moderator Jan 7 @ 11:58 PM EST
A5: As a parent of a child in our school, I really want us to get our school on board with getting connected and committing to share with each other. Then through this we can build a stronger community and learn together! #OrEdchat
  • hlogananderson Jan 7 @ 11:58 PM EST
Q5. I always seek to improve. Personally, I am planning to work on providing strong math intervention that helps build number sense and is fun for students schoolwide. #oredchat
  • MrsCford_tweets Jan 7 @ 11:58 PM EST
This is my second year using the ideas of SBG even though our district isn't an SBG district, so our school has to equate the rubrics to grades still. I wouldn't go back, but we're always learning, reflecting, and revising #oredchat
    In reply to @howie_hua
  • LannySaretsky Jan 7 @ 11:59 PM EST
A5 My answer too for this question. :.) #oredchat

  • kinderkfoley Jan 7 @ 11:59 PM EST
With @hmarrs24 :) I only redid the slide several times and still picked the wrong one, lol. #oredchat
    In reply to @hmarrs24
  • 2014ORTOY Jan 7 @ 11:59 PM EST
#oredchat I've considered that too! But the amount of time needed has kept me from committing!
