Q1: Blended Learning is combining whatâs great about online learning with what works in traditional education. What about this idea do you connect with? #NoVAedChat#BL#BlendedLearning
A1 I am a big fan of continuous improvement... so this appeals. Assess what we're doing, keep what works well, find new and exciting ways to solve the challenges we face! #NoVAedchat
Hello #novaedchat! I'm Joe and I'm a part of the #StaffordITRTs in Stafford, VA. My favorite things about Fall are pumpkin, cooler weather and FOOTBALL!
A1: I think itâs about finding the best of each platform and trying. Make adjustments and try again. Donât just take it from your perspective but encourage #studentvoice and reflection as well #novaedchat
A1: Agreed, blended learning is more of a methodology rather than a new thing. It is like accentuating good teaching with deliberate methods to build skills in addition to knowledge #NoVAedchat
A1: Agreed, blended learning is more of a methodology rather than a new thing. It is like accentuating good teaching with deliberate methods to build skills in addition to knowledge #NoVAedchat
A1: I know others have said it but the thing I like best about #BlendedLearning is the flexibility it offers to find what works for you and your students #NoVAedChat
Q1: Blended Learning is combining whatâs great about online learning with what works in traditional education. What about this idea do you connect with? #NoVAedChat#BL#BlendedLearning
A1: COMBINING. This is what blended learning is all about and thatâs no easy task. Providing opportunities for blended learning is like being an executive chef & a pastry chef & all the other kinds of chefs. Youâve got to dabble in the good stuff. #NoVAedChat#BlendedLearning
A1: Blended Learning when used properly can amplify the good you're already doing, but if done poorly then it will amplify the bad as well. There has to be BALANCE because otherwise it will not be successful. #novaedchat
A2 Anytime we have options for new ways to do things...or a variety of ways to do things, I think it helps kids find the way that works best for them! #NoVAedchat
Q1 I love the idea of teaching Ss how to find out more by teaching them to use the internet appropriately WHILE teaching content. It gives Ss skills that can be applied beyond the classroom - and gives them access to more than any one T could possibly know! #NoVAedchat
A2 I think it gives us an opportunity o meet students where they are and get some small group/1:1 time with them.
I think @kelly_freiheit might have some good ideas, too! #NoVAedchat
Oh my gosh, the bugs are still a crazy mess. I ate dinner with a friend outside tonight and the mosquitos feasted on me! I can't wait till it cools down and this eases #novaedchat
A2: BL can allow for choice of path and pace of learning. Itâs not easy and itâs going to take a lot of planning but allowing that option for students can be a total game changer #novaedchat
Its going well. I finally feel like I'm making a difference at my school for the better. Ts are inviting me to help them learn, we are working on a passion of mine of backwards design and PBL's as a whole school. I am starting to see purpose again. #NoVAedchat
A2: Blended learning is great for Ss because it allows them to engage in their work. Gives them choice, flexibility and builds accountability #NoVAedchat
A2: Blended Learning is a good option because it can be personalized and customized; thereâs a difference! It provides Ss the opportunity to practice skills and dispositions that are essential for their futures. #NoVAedChat
A2 Blended Learning creates the opportunity of built in differentiation. Opportunities for enrichment can be built in to lessons, instruction can be recorded for Ss to access later if they need to review more... So many possibilities! #NoVAedchat
A2: Blended Learning could be a great option for our some Ss because it allows them to pause and play a lesson again. It allows them to work at their pace and have choice. When done right this helps to build Student Engagement and Ownership in their learning. #novaedchat
A3 I planned a full day PD that was blended! It was powerful...because as educators worked through the day many started to notice what we were doing. When we named the activities that made the day blended, it was a big a-ha moment #NoVAedchat
A3: Iâm really trying to move beyond tech integration and into a true BL format. Incorporating a bit of PBL and guided inquiry. Itâs daunting but itâs inspiring! Gives me hope for the ways it can be done in my classroom!! #novaedchat
A1 #BlendedLearning is our first stab at reaching our students on their home turf. As we become more confident with online learning resources, we will in turn become more relevant and authentic to an increasingly online population of learners. #NoVAedchat
Q1: Blended Learning is combining whatâs great about online learning with what works in traditional education. What about this idea do you connect with? #NoVAedChat#BL#BlendedLearning
We are using a cohort model at our school this year for professional learning. I agree completely; modeling is key. Even if it takes adult learners out of their comfort zones! #NoVAedchat
A3 @HolmesMS_FCPS we are learning together - we are doing a book study on #PowerUpEd as a staff. At our last faculty meeting, we had a teacher share how they are using Google Classroom to support BL. #NoVAedChat
A3: I have tried the Station-Rotation model with Ts and Ss. I have seen it work and not work. Though it all comes back to one thing.....Ts follow through and effort. Those that put in the time to plan, reflect, and modify if needed were successful 95% of the time. #novaedchat
Q4: Blended Learning can look different depending on what classroom youâre in. What model might be a good first step for a teacher that wants to try #BlendedLearning? #NoVAedChat
A3b We are also using different tools at staff meetings and PD - that we can then bring back to the classroom. For example, we recently practiced implementing Socratic Seminar while the observers commented on padlet. #NoVAedChat
A4 Start with figuring out what's working and what's not? What do your kids need more experience with? What needs to be done in a different way - then talk with your tech coach!! #NoVAedchat
A4: I think a well thought out digital choice board or a truly interactive and collaborative hyperdoc are great places to start! See how it lands, adjust, and try once more đ#novaedchat
A4: I think it depends on the teacher and their students. The teacher is the expert and knows what will work. I see many starting with a 2 (or 3) station rotation. #bl#NoVAedChat
A4: I have found, at the elementary level, that the Station rotation model is the perfect place to start. Most elementary Ts already do stations and it works in easily. As for subject I like starting with Math. #novaedchat
A4 I think whatever youâd do, itâs important to start with how much (or little) you feel comfortable it has a teacher. If you try to go too big and it doesnât work, itâs hard to keep trying new things. #NoVAedChat
A2: #blendedlearning works largely because it allows for that personalized differentiation we strive for and tear our hair out trying to attain. #NoVAedchat
A2: You can modify pace, resources, and expected student output for each student with everything housed in a shared online base camp. #BlendedLearning#NoVAedchat
Nothing is more discouraging than working hard and getting pumped for something only to see it fall flat. But by bit is a great strategy! Gotta build up tolerance for independent thought and freedom of product. #NoVAedchat
A5 When Ts are just starting out, there can be a lot of upfront work to convert past lessons to a BL format. Also, it can be tough when Ss know more about computers than I do. đł #NoVAedChat
A5: time is always a challenge, BL is a lot of work up front. More free time for one on one and feedback during the âlessonâ but MAN its a lot of planning to frontload #novaedchat
A5: We have a bunch of wonderful / approved tech tools. The setup for successful #BlendedLearning might necessitate students to get all logged into their accounts. Also, like any learning environment, Ss should have had the chance to build relationships first #NoVAedchat
A5: First and foremost, the #edtech. We are still figuring out how to leverage devices (which often predate our studentsâ devices) and online materials (which might not be engaging/current/appropriately differentiated and aligned...) #NoVAedchat
A5: But then there is the *actual* instructional work of developing meaningfully differentiated and personalized online experiences that augment student learning while aligning to standards. #BlendedLearning#NoVAedChat
A5: And this doesnât even begin to get to the accountability side! How do we keep them off GChat, @YouTube, @netflix, and ensure they are actually thinking, doing, and working? #BlendedLearning#NoVAedchat
Well, the county took care of Netflix for you 𤣠but itâs manageable. Big changes happen when you crack the accountability code for your kids #NoVAedchat
Oh yeah. #đ. A good start is looking at high-structure student centered learning protocols like Padilla & Socratic seminars. Lots of rules and protocols, but it works and kids plug in. Itâs doable! #BlendedLearning#NoVAedchat
