#globaledchat Gm from India...it would be interesting to see how we can talk of culture to our students ...a culture of a country, of a school, of a class and their own identity..how they see themselves in the community..both global and personal
Hi, Matt from NY here. I’m looking for strategies to guide students through the taking action process. Loving how my students want to volunteer with organizations but also want them to explore other opinions #globaledchat
Hi all! I’m Kristen from @NEAFoundation. I’m tweeting from Washington,DC. All of the #globaledchat questions are so great! I’d love to see a chat on making global education accessible to students with varying abilities.

A1: Inthink effective global ed teaching looks like learning with them empathy & application. Ss need to learn about global issues, feel passionate about them & then act on them. #globaledchat
A1 Brings in multiple perspectives that challenge Ss POV. Entails critical thinking, analysis, & often issues of social justice. A classroom videoconference exchange w/ another culture on a topic w/ time for reflection analyzing the perspectives incorporated #globaledchat
Hi #globaledchat, Matt here from Madison, WI, prepping to teach a course in #highered assessment to cohort of students in a Master's global higher ed program, thinking of int'l aspects of assessment.
A1: Ts integrate global themes into curriculum, engage Ss to communicate and collaborate with people from different cultures and countries, and inspire Ss to take action. @ProjectZeroHGSE global thinking routines help infuse gcs. #globaledchat@ELmagazinehttps://t.co/cfoty9BZNG
A1: Effective #globaled teaching builds student capacity to draw local-global connections and use appropriate problem solving skills to take action #globaledchat
I love hearing that. When I Skype with students, about what my mother experienced in Hiroshima surviving the atomic bomb, I want to introduce Ss to the Japanese culture at the time and give them a glimpse to see the similarities as well as differences🌸#globaledchat
A2: i would like to add a more global focus to my leadership class. Today they got to meet with Saudi educators and talk about student leadership...i would like to do more of that! #globaledchat
A1 #globaledchat It is fluid, transparent and woven in and out of daily learning. Global learning connects and gives opportunities for conversations that deepen our understanding of what we care about/curious about..
A2 I long to find & infuse my class w/that mysterious element that leads my students to fall in love with the cultures behind the language I teach. #globaledchat
A2 As an English teacher, improving my own #GlobalEd teaching means diversifying the voices my students hear – thanks @diversebooks – and explicitly teaching #empathy in class. #globaledchat
A2 continue to learn from cultural “experts” (those living it) about their lives, how others treat them, how gvt & institutional policies impact them, & their thoughts on what I can do to better understand, advocate, & educate Ss towards empathy & humanizing all #globaledchat
A2: Finding more opportunities to connect and collaborate with eductors around the world through international and intercultural conversations and partnerships. #globaledchat
Hi! Welcome back! We did assessing #Globaled as a topic a few weeks ago - is that what you are working on? here's the transcript from that one: https://t.co/5oiBF1LE1h#globaledchat
A1: For me, #globaled should focus on the process using @AsiaSocietyEDU 4 domains. The project at the end is wonderful but it’s about how Ss gets there. I’ve been trying to expose students to as many perspectives as possible and give them the time to dive deeper. #globaledchat
A1: Effective global ed teaching entails figuring how to infuse int'l perspective into core material, but w/awareness that our nat'l perspectives & biases shouldn't color how we talk to students about the whole world. #globaledchat

A3: For many teachers, I think time is a challenge - time to plan global projects, time to connect with other teachers (in their school and globally), and time for PD. #globaledchat
A3 Giving Ss a chance to FaceTime to build our community either with a class next door or around the globe. Having a buddy class to share our creativity, collaborate and show our thinking thinking through our standards has been powerful. #globaledchat
A3: I find it challenging to help students do sustained in depth research on a topic, even one that interests them. It’s just not something they are used to. Building that #grit is key #Globaledchat
A3: For many teachers, I think time is a challenge - time to plan global projects, time to connect with other teachers (in their school and globally), and time for PD. #globaledchat
A3 Challenge is the constant personal reflection on whether I’m getting enough variety of perspectives & variables about topic for student inquiry to not simplify the complexities of an issue or people that may lead to greater misconceptions of issue or people #globaledchat

A1. Global teaching is allowing Ss to research, solve prob./using 4C's working with world leaders and organizations to solve these issues! #globaledchat
A3: Doing this work in isolation. That’s why joining global PLNs, attending globally-focused PD events, and enlisting the support of your school community is so important. #globaledchat
Would you think reading historical fiction can help at all with that? Letting them see the issue through someone's eyes that are around the same age #globaledchat
What are ways that authors of historical fiction can help with that in the classroom, Skype visits, class visits, discussion guides? I want to be able to help as well as inform. #globaledchat
A3: Biggest challenge w/infusing global perspective in my courses is figuring out which countries/regions to include/exclude. Easy to stick to what's most familiar, but that's a danger too. #globaledchat
Very true. I also think Ts need to be more aware of the opps out there for global ed. I know there are some fellowships, wish there were more. #Globaledchat

Just put the kid to bed and jumping in a bit late. Information Literacy Specialist in Rochester, MI. Loving what I'm reading on the chat so far #globaledchat
A4: Twitter 100%. I always knew my practice needed to be globally focused but twitter and #globaledchat have given me resources and connections. #globaledchat
A2. Would love to work with Ss on more globalized issues for prob. solving/soln through research and working with world leaders to see what the Ss can do w/ prob.! #globaledchat
A4A Travel experiences & meeting other cultures has helped. Accumulating resources, especially primary, to bring in mult. perspectives. Working w/ experts in other fields to bring in strategies incorporating their expertise (i.e. musicians w/ world music expertise). #globaledchat
A4 aforementioned PLNs- even beyond Twitter chat (which is great), using materials developed by those Twitter connections infuses more global ed perspectives than I could hope to have on my own. #globaledchat
A4 #globaledchat Experiences: travel, professional writing, Presenting about globaled @TeachSDGs Strategies: Asking questions of my students.. How can we make a difference/inquiry through #NGSS
A4: Discovering great scholars in my field around the world (which required reading outside usual sources) is hopefully leading to more inclusive teaching. #globaledchat
A4B Some strategies include simulations, cross-cultural videoconference classroom exchanges, comparing topic from mult. perspectives across cultures (i.e. how do various countries' news media portray it). In end class reflection the key #globaledchat
A4: The #globaled journey is different for every T. Tapping into diversity of your classroom & community or expanding horizons through international immersion experiences can open mind to new ways of global teaching using culturally inclusive, engaging pedagogy. #globaledchat
I would love to do that. More opps for classroom Ts to see things in action without worrying about sub costs and sick days would be fantastic #globaledchat
Hey #globaledchat. Sean from BC, Canada dropping in. A4: Making global connections & friendships has given me the impetus to give my students the same opportunity. It has basically been practice that has lead to improvement. Still have lots to learn!
#globaledchat A4 firstly acquisition of knowledge and information myself , getting in touch with the global issues and then connecting my students, reading and #Twitter chats really take me a long way into the global contexts and awareness
A4 travel has definitely helped. Bringing those global experiences to your room with a globe/google earth, a great piece of literature and providing them to make their own connections has been powerful. #Globaledchat
Those are some great ideas. I find in the #highered classroom the guest lecture model too rarely crosses nat'l borders via Skype or video. Gonna try that next term! #Globaledchat

The real key to this is having the full backing and support of your administration. Get them onboard and hopefully the opportunities open up. #globaledchat

A4 Taking the time to learn about the diverse and unique cultures that make up our school, and then stocking the library shelves with books that reflect their culture and story. #globaledchat
A5: The Globally Competent Learning Continuum (GCLC) allows Ts to ID strengths and areas of improvement for globally competent teaching, and provides reading, videos, and more to support your professional growth. #globaledchathttps://t.co/KsVIiwaVJT
A4. Sharing about different cultures, learning about the diversity that exists in your classroom and school, sharing stories from other countries and writings.#globaledchat
A5 I wrote my dissertation on this topic :) If you're looking for some reading to put you to sleep I can direct you to it. Here's a shortened version. file:///Users/caranok/Downloads/73-396-1-PB%20(3).pdf #globaledchat
This is an example of a project that incorporated asynchronous opportunities for collaboration via Padlet and Flipgrid https://t.co/uc8hcZuzrr#Globaledchat
You're doing great Heather :) Agreed that teachers have to create a classroom environment where they feel comfortable taking risks and exploring new ideas #globaledchat
A6: In first grade it's when they begin to show interest in others outside of their life & want to read about it, write about it, build for it. #globaledchat
A5for it's always amazing educator like you all ,educational society and of course my most favourite Twitter. I am growing with you all #globaledchat@hsingmaster@globaledcon
A5. Scholastic has some wonderful books for resources! Our school library has quite a selection of diff. books for Ss with cultures. Local lib. #globaledchat
A6 Such a spectrum. It takes time. Some further along than others. I look for improved intercultural awareness, critical thinking & critical analysis skills, increased empathy, speaking up for or taking informed action on human rights issues #globaledchat
A5 Just purchased (with the help of a grant) $600 worth of books in the top languages other than English spoken at our school. Arabic, Chinese, Koren, Spanish, and Albanian. Working on growing a more globally aware and diverse library selection. #globaledchat
A1 Effective #globaled teaching looks like instruction that provides Ss with a broader scope on what is going on around the 🌎. After identifying the focus of the lesson, going on a virtual fieldtrip or the use of models develops bkground knowledge. #Globaledchat
Q5 @donbuckley (and sometimes @bwileyone) have led workshops powered by design thinking to help teachers find authentic contexts for going global. Design thinking can be an interesting tools when applied in the global ed context. #globaledchat
A6: when Ss come to you asking for help in helping others and understanding current events; also when their questions are not Google-able #GlobalEdChat
I have 2go. TY so much!I'm so gr8tful 4all you do as teachers. It inspires me 2see dedication&passion u have &your desire 2give students best experience in classroom.2show them path 2opening their minds &their hearts. I hope as author I can help in some small way.🌸#globaledchat
A5: blogging has really helped get my students aware and interacting with other cultures. We have learned different languages to help us communicate. Thanks @google translate! #globaledchat
A6. When Ss come into the library and are asking for books on diff. cultures and some of their activities which they may celebrate -because they want to learn more information! #globaledchat
A6 Kinders want to learn about things in their zone of development. Finding out that friends in Moldova or Honduras have the same likes blows them away. #globaledchat
A5: Collaboration with local and regional universities and with secondary schools of the same interests, home and abroad, has leveraged our range of interests at #rutlandhs if Vermont. #globaledchat

A2 I would like to improve my own #globaled teaching by presenting Ss w/ challenges that impact other students across the 🌎 and to build their empathy skills alongside their critical 🤔 skills. More project/problem based learning that is deliberate. #globaledchat
The # and types of questions Ss ask, the way Ss treat one another and fellow human beings, the extent to which Ss address a desire to improve the world show they're developing into global citizens #globaledchat
A6: when Ss come to you asking for help in helping others and understanding current events; also when their questions are not Google-able #GlobalEdChat
Ooooh.... we'll be there I am sure. Our last workshop with @DawsonSchool was particularly awesome. I hope @roxannestansbur will join #globaledchat for that particular chat!

#globaledchat A7. We have a collaborative planning process we share #Googledocs and all assignments are discussed before sharing with students, we have a dynamic working document at the backend where in we keep putting our resources, ideas etc.its effective
A7: continue netowrking and finding opps to add a global component. Also i cant wait ti travel abroad again. I have young kiddos so i have been stateside a few years! #globaledchat
A7: Continous improvement provides a roadmap for improving T and S global competence development. 1) Determine a goal. 2) Make small changes to reach your goal and constantly measure results. 3) Join PLNs to share successes and challenges. #globaledchathttps://t.co/w2gNWp1V88
A3 Challenges that I face with incorporating #globaled in my teaching are the instructional non-negotiable @ my school, time constraints, and time to effectively plan an impactful lessons. Are some lessons available? #globaledchat
A4: I think before any student can understand global context they must understand who they are and identify their own culture. Then they can celebrate theirs and the cultures of the world #globaledchat
A7a. One family in our school district celebrated every holiday on the calendar because they wanted their children to be familiarized w/ sev cultures!#globaledchat
By the way, everyone, we are co-hosting our 3rd annual Global Education Summit w/ @ASCD in March as part of their Empower Conf. If you will be in Boston, we hope you will join us. It's going to be an amazing day of learning and sharing! https://t.co/Qyfuwwz2E3#globaledchat
