Welcome to #caedchat everyone. Tonight we are going to have a few questions about Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Holidays and a Cyber Monday one! Everything we did in the past week :)
A1 #caedchat - thankful for admin that allows me flexibility in room setup & lesson planning - thankful for kids — for my kitchen nook & stools & green wall!!
A1: I am blessed to work with amazing people with incredible students...plus, they think I am funny, so it makes it that much more entertaining! #caedchat
Q2: Thanksgiving - Without the support of parents/guardians it is very difficult to do our job. What are you thankful for when it comes to them? #caedchat
Q2: They are always open to a conversation about their child. We may not always agree but we can always talk. They also support the greater school goals. #caedchat
A2 #caedchat I’m thankful for parents because they know their children really well and often they can tell me helpful things when a student is struggling.

A1: I am thankful for every living moment of every living day. I love when I see a spark of passion when young ones learning something new, or discover what the world has to offer. #caedchat
A3 #caedchat: An iPad -> Apple TV combo as a document projector/video player/demonstrator. I use it constantly — showing pix at read aloud, projecting my own face, etc. etc.
A3 a fully equipped science lab is a must and our 1-1 iPads added the next level to lessons & student products. iPads also help us communicate better. #caedchat
Q4: Black Friday - If you had a $1,000 grant (or however much you want) for your classroom, what would you purchase and how would it help students? #caedchat
A2: #caedchat Their proactive involvement, their constant dialog with us and their support/guidance in how to work best with their children has been pretty awesome.
Also love @CK12Foundation . Plus let's give another shout-out to @khanacademy Love their math and science lessons. I even donate monthly to them #caedchat

A4: I would decentralize: demolish the built-in 3’x9’ “teacher desk” monstrosity at the front of my room, and add floor-to-ceiling whiteboards on all of my walls! #caedchat
A4: A whole bunch of no-tech items: cardboard , duct tape, hot glue guns, tool kits (from Ikea) and old tech to take apart and build something new. #caedchat

I saw those floor-to-ceiling whiteboards in library workrooms at @SantaClaraUniv when I visited there. I was impressed! Having projector is also cool and effective #caedchat
A4 Sets of locks 4 @breakoutEDU boxes my admin's girls built so my gaming class could design breakouts 4 K-5 Ss, @padcaster so we can create better videos 4 dailies & deployed parents, #caedchat
Q5: Holidays - “It’s the most wonderful time of the year”...what will you be doing in your classroom for the next 3 weeks until winter break? #caedchat
Intriguing! Interview and reflect! Or perhaps perhaps buy an LCD projector, then Skype with author, and have enough left over to buy his/her books for kids! Scale up . Meet with multiple authors #caedchat
A5 Busy end of the year - Board of Directors meeting, filming scholars for a promo video w/@StrongMindEdu, Scholar Leadership Council Meeting, @AVID4College Conference, & a slew of year-end meetings at @CompassCs! #caedchat
A5 short days 4 conferences this week. NGSS SEP skills, finishing @AmplifyScience Geology on Mars. After break: always fun Sex-Ed Unit 3 wks. #caedchat
Q6: Holidays - “Do you hear what I hear?” Computers are not going away and neither are cell phones. What are some tools/strategies we can use to encourage students to limit their screen time? #caedchat
A6 #Caedchat When Ss follow me on social media I post videos of my colleagues and I singing a medley of holiday tunes. That causes students to put their phones down and run.
a6: #caedchat I deal with older kids so use the advisory sessions to talk about device usage. Lot of insightful conversations happen which I then share with my other classes.
A6 While @CompassCs is a #virtual#charterschool & the curriculum is online, we do offer a number of engagement & enrichment activities each month to enhance learning & build community! #caedchat
A6 I created a board & card game class. Ss dont use tech, talk to each other face to face & practice sportsmanship. In science, we do lots of hands-on. I also teach health & nutrition that addresses topic. #caedchat
A6: The trick is is not to try to "limit," but rather to try to "encourage" real-time, live interactions, maker projects or nature excursions. Spend time in the 3D world. #caedchat
Not remove it, just turn it off sometimes. When my Ss spend too much time changing the font color and inserting pix (which is against strict instructions), I know it’s time to write on paper for a while. #caedchat
Q7: Cyber Monday - Forbes Magazine predicts $3.81 billion in sales on Cyber Monday ($1.24 billion on mobile devices). Be honest...will you spend some time at work tomorrow doing a little shopping for the holidays? #caedchat
A7 I most likely will not be shopping on #CyberMonday but have been encouraging our @CompassCs to use @amazon Smile if they do shop, as CCS receives donations from each purchase to support our engagement efforts for #scholars! #caedchat
Love it. What would you spend your money of if you had $1,000, How about $100,000? The ask WHY? Then categorize either the objects desired or the reasons. Have Ss reflect and discuss. That could be a cool Cyber discussion #caedchat
