A1) To get it going in class, I show connections to their lives, the real world, how to use the learning right now, I show my passion, how much I love it, how excited I am. I also share my fails, the Ss know I tried, failed, learned and tried again #EduGladiators
A1) It starts the second your students get off the bus. High fives, fists bumps, and good mornings to show the energy is up. If we don’t come in with that, the day has no momentum #EduGladiators
A1: That energy starts from the very first minute of the very first day. Developing positive student relationships right away sets up the rest of your year. After that, they rely on your energy and enthusiasm you bring to each day. Even if you’re faking it! #Edugladiators
A1: I generate energy in our school by bringing a positive attitude right when I walk through the doors each. I make sure to greet Ss, paras, and Ts with kind words and a smile as I walk toward my room. #EduGladiators
A1: I gotta go with enthusiasm here. If I am excited about something the kids should be able to feel the energy. If I am only half in they will likely see it. #EduGladiators
A1) Taking advantage of the many learning opportunities f2f or virtual feeds my energy & excitement. Sharing my learning with Ss feeds our excitement! #edugladiators
A1: My system is called "Smiles for Miles." You can see me coming from a mile away. Who has got it better than us? I choose my own weather and it's contagiously positive. #EduGladiators
A1: Had a great discussion about this the other day with colleagues. I feel like my sphere of influence diminished when I moved into kinder. I am working on changing that. #EduGladiators
A1 The initial energy comes from the collaborative vision we set for our school. We maintain the momentum by consistently referencing that vision when we consider new projects. Helps strategically focus our momentum on our priorities. #edugladiators
A1.2- if your attitude is to punch mediocrity in the face and accept the challenge of wrestling with excellence is apparent, liked minded people feed off that contagious energy.
#EduGladiators
Thanks! Wind gusts peaked at 93 on island, but I'm up in Boston for a few days for our vacation week. Now, how to get back to that rock...🤔#edugladiators
A1 I notice what my colleagues are putting energy into (by observing them or asking them) & pass along resources that might move them in the direction they want to go. Sometimes the “resource” is another colleague. #EduGladiators
Definitely, it all comes down to the relationships, we have to focus on this from the start and continue to . build, grow, learn together #edugladiators
A1: People are attracted to others who are energetic about life and about others. Think about it. Have you ever been attracted to anyone who wasn’t excited about their day? Engagement starts from an energetic, engaging person. #EduGladiators

A1: New policies or initiatives can't just be introduced to staff in PD or an e-mail. To get momentum going, staff must be part of the process. Get their ideas and feedback. They can help roll it out, too, to increase buy-in! #edugladiators
exactly! we need to keep our eye on our end goal & know that journey takes time & be ready to say NO to things that try to deviate us from that goal #edugladiators
I would begin building momentum and street cred before kids even entered my class. Go to recess and lunch and play with kids who will be coming to you. #edugladiators
For Ss, I help them connect to what’s coming next by bringing out the knowledge of something related to the topic. Start building connections b4 we even start. #EduGladiators
Can’t wait to talk about Burned Out, Beaten Up, Fighting Back: A Call To Action For America’s Public Educators with all of you! Order yours here: https://t.co/IqWCO8LHUB Use #call2action4ed as you read and share your thoughts! via https://t.co/vxx5hMY8kG
A1.3-
I firmly believe you have to wake up each day SO ready for greatness that it’s a raging desire. You must be pissed off for greatness to be able to tackle the obstacles that you will encounter. Hungry to push-push-push no matter the naysayers.
#EduGladiators
A1: Music and movement can be great ways to get everyone as well as a clear sense of the objective we are working towards. Start with the end in mind! #edugladiators
Love when I start with the why Ss begin to respond in similar fashion! Changes our conversations to collegial conversations not a fight to engage!! #edugladiators
A1) I’ve started my Friday morning breakfast times off with music. Kids love it, and get the ball rolling for a positive, uplifting class #EduGladiators
Agreed, sometimes I am so excited about trying something different, cannot wait to get started and my enthusiasm is over the top probably ;) #edugladiators
A1: Ignite the heart and lead with your WHY! When I work with #teachers and leaders, personal reflections and stories really center the momentum back to WHY we each got into this work. That is the launchpad for any initiative or project. #edugladiators
A1: For me it often comes in the form of questioning “impossible” with the consideration of possible. Too often things are static because we don’t ask questions; we accept things the way they are. Questions shake things up a bit. Questions lead to possibilities. #EduGladiators
A1: Passion and energy are choices. People with passion attract others, especially other people who have passion themselves. Energy multiplies. Energy reproduces. Energy influences. #edugladiators

A2) I thinking showing the idea, activity, initiatives in action. We can talk and read about it but to get the big push of momentum, show the impact in action, visit classrooms or with others that doing it. #EduGladiators
gotta be in all that you do-starts with building it with team-then referencing it relentlessly-Ask is this "new thing" fit what we are about and want for our students? keep talking about it cuz its more than a phrase or motto on a wall #edugladiators
A2: Include them in the process. Everyone has a unique perspective. Those willing to participate may be able to improve upon the new and make it even better. #edugladiators

So true, need to include everyone, show that each role is valued and part of the learning and growing process, buy in is better with relationships, communication and honest feedback #edugladiators
A2: Staff must be parting of the planning process. And if you ask for feedback, it can't just be lip service. Listen to your team, adjust, address their concerns, and roll out something you can all be proud of/committed to! #edugladiators
A1: Right now, make the choice. Put energy into what you tweet and the things you do today. Watch what the difference will be in the people who are attracted to you. #addvalue#EduGladiators

So beneficial for learning, attaching that relevance and meaning for Ss to connect what they already know, with what they are learning and why it matters #edugladiators
A2) Data and the momentum it’s generating in your room. I’ve been sharing with teachers the last few weeks the awesomeness of #GAFE and how easy it is to communicate with students feedback to help them. Now many have jumped on board and are trying out #GAFE#EduGladiators
A1.2 In class, instead of providing the energy source, I tap into theirs by designing prompts and act assignments that ask students to connect the books and issues we study to their own values. The task is the solar cell. They’re the sun.
#EduGladiators
A2: Make sure there are authentic opportunities for collaboration. If you have it all figured out, I may not see what I can add and be less excited about being a part of it. #edugladiators
A2-
Be transparent.
Be up front.
Be ready to listen.
Be ready to explain in DEPTH.
Then when you have a goal, LEAD.
Support your people by shattering the barriers in their way and silencing the noise around them as best you can. Give them space to WORK!
#EduGladiators
A2: being passionate, sharing your why, tying whatever is “new” to what they’re already doing, building trust before making changes, listening to concerns and feedback, removing obstacles, trusting your team. #EduGladiators
A2: Sometimes it’s important to start small, building up a nucleus of passionate edus who share common goals...it’s amazing to experience how infectious such a group can be across a staff! 😊 #edugladiators
It’s really that simple! I would tell kids and still tell teachers/leaders that the moment they stop liking to be at school and wrk with kids they need to do something else. Our kids deserve our best! #EduGladiators
A2. Give others an opportunityto share their input and voices about the work that needs to be done. People can’t own work they didn’t decide to do. #EduGladiators
A1: Part of keeping the momentum of the energy in the classroom can be done by making sure all students and staff realize they are part of the process. That they have a voice in how the vision will play out, how the conversation will go, how the product will look...#EduGladiators
A1. Hangout in the hallways & connect with kids who aren’t in your class. My goal as a T was to be so connected to as many kids as possible so that they would be begging to be in my class. When they want to b w/ you that builds lots of potential NRG #edugladiators
A1.2 In class, instead of providing the energy source, I tap into theirs by designing prompts and act assignments that ask students to connect the books and issues we study to their own values. The task is the solar cell. They’re the sun.
#EduGladiators
A2) Approachability, must customize on a person by person basis, execute this, Leaders put that person FIRST... Also transparency breeds trust and buy-in, be 100% authentic, open, flawed, passionate #edugladiators
A2 If you want all staff involved you have to start collaborating at the beginning, build and plan together. People don’t respond well to thou shalt do this!#EduGladiators
definitely, and making time for those collaborations, getting to know one another is where I start, building that community in the classroom #edugladiators
A1: Good morning. It all begins the moment your students enter the school. How we greet them sets the tone for the day. We as educators have to make the decision to have a positive mindset! #edugladiators
Right, and I think it’s important to do that early on rather than after they’ve “learned” it. How many Ss got lost along the way because they had nothing to hold onto in the lesson? #EduGladiators
A2 Share & share some more. Acknowledge that Ts can be leaders & change can come from them. When I see great things that colleagues are doing, I want to do it too! #edugladiators
A2: Share, share, share. A lot of Ts are hesitant about doing something new until they see the benefits. Be that voice and show that others can take risks in order to chase after your shared why. #EduGladiators
A2 When initiating new ideas or initiatives, it's important to have our team's input from the start. This lessens the need to "sell" the idea and allows us to focus more on strengthening the effort to contribute to reaching our goal of supporting Ss #edugladiators
A1: Momentum requires risks, not reckless risks but resolute risks to get things moving. We can sit on the status quo sofa or we can get up and follow possibilities. Momentum needs possibilities. People will move toward and with possibilities. #EduGladiators
A2) You have to be willing to approach people BUT you must be willing to be approached to in order to learn from other staff. Always stay open! #EduGladiators
A2 they have to be on board from the start-find your team & start that critical mass movement with them-others will join in or will need to get out of they way-this train has left the station #edugladiators
A2: Sometimes it’s important to start small, building up a nucleus of passionate edus who share common goals...it’s amazing to experience how infectious such a group can be across a staff! 😊 #edugladiators
A2: The best way is to have a strong culture. If staff feels listened to and appreciated, buy-in will not be as difficult. Listen to your people and show them you know how awesome & hard-working they are. Thank-yous and compliments go a long way! #edugladiators
This is a must, not just the Ss in our CR, but all Ss, time to learn about the Ss of the school, may be the only positive interactions some Ss have in a day #edugladiators
A2. Not accepting CAN'T..I think when we start accepting excuses..nothing will lift off the ground with a new initiative..project..practice #EduGladiators
A2: Do these 3 Things Every Day
1. Value People
2. Believe in People
3. Unconditionally Love People.
You will find more people are with you when you put serving others first.
#edugladiators

A2 this year we started work on revamping our PLCs & its being led with teachers not teachers being told what to do-its a team effort #mommentumbuilders#edugladiators
Like the depth component here. Important that leaders are able to engage their team members about initiatives and provide guidance for next steps. Helps clarify misconceptions #edugladiators
Your amazing hashtag caught my eye! Warriors, #edugladiators, I can get behind that! 👍🏻 Jillian Hartman, Assistant Professor @gcu teaching College of Education courses online
Good morning warriors!
Let's get today's #EduGladiators chat started!
Today #EduGladiators starts a {NEW} series for March: Momentum w/@cooper1503 leading the convo!
But first, roll call!
Who's here?
Share your name & how/where you 'gladiate' 4 Ss!
And it takes time to gather feedback but it’s worth it. As leaders, we can’t be in to big of a hurry & not include teachers & students in the process! #EduGladiators
A3) Less is more. I focus on one thing to move forward and I work on it and build on it. My push right now is a global classroom. Is there many pieces inside yes but each idea i ask "how can this help my global classroom?" #EduGladiators
A2: Work wants witness. So we have to give people a chance to witness our work, especially our work that is chasing possibilities. We have to talk. We have to listen. We have to invite people into our work. Open the classroom door , literally and figuratively. #EduGladiators
A2 important to remember that some will bring dissent & that's OK when its "constructive" not "destructive" if discussions are about getting better bring it! if its just bitchin' then maybe its time for them to move on-we need honest discussions #edugladiators
A2 Instead of getting everyone on board, use values clarification work to help teachers see they’re already in the same boat—or at least part of the same fleet headed in the same direction. #edugladiators
I love this visual about complex change @mexusmx and @Lynchteaches - We use this with school leaders to think purposefully about how they course correct and enhance current systems and structures @EduGladiators#EduGladiators
A2: Getting staff on board with new ideas happens when the leadership is flattened. When the culture is one where people don't feel like new ideas are coming from the top down, but rather being generated by themselves and their peers. #EduGladiators
Q1: genuine excitement! Genuine being the key word. Find what you are passionate about and offer opportunities to collaborate and share/learn with others. #EduGladiators@EduGladiators
A4: By actively listening and following through. Communication and consistency build trust. Without trust, our organization becomes a rudderless boat. #edugladiators

A3- LISTEN
One more time... LISTEN.
To do that you have to ask questions. Check progress. Get the pulse of all involved. Set aside time to discuss the process/ initiative and make sure not only are we on the same page, but are we making progress?
#EduGladiators
Great approach. A laser focus can be so important, and as you take steps along that path so many another positive things can fall into place. #EduGladiators
A3: All staff being part of a shared why, a common vision and mission statement, and hold each other accountable. Be ready to have honest conversations when you need to ask someone...does this align with our WHY? Transform negative energy into positive. #EduGladiators
A3: Know your vision and focus on only 2-3 big things at a time. You don't have to do everything. Empower your team and teachers to take on other things, and support/coach them. But stay focused to have maximum impact. #edugladiators
A2: Work wants witness. So we have to give people a chance to witness our work, especially our work that is chasing possibilities. We have to talk. We have to listen. We have to invite people into our work. Open the classroom door , literally and figuratively. #EduGladiators
A3) you have to get everyone on the bus, you can’t let anyone lag behind. Listen to them...and share the ‘why’ so you can get them on the bus as well #EduGladiators
A2: Don’t let the first time you seek out feedback or advice on a proposal be when your first rolling it out. Seek input and realize your pride needs to be put aside. #edugladiators
A3-2-
Laser like focus is a cool term and all, but in a school we MUST be mindful of how a process change effects the rest of the campus. Often we aren’t, and unintended consequences come from the new focus—- this is remedied by deep discussion and checks.
#EduGladiators
A3 When introducing new initiative or idea, we need to keep it in focus. Too often in education, things are dropped onto us w/out a plan or sustained instruction. #edugladiators
A3: As a team I think being open to others course, be open. Thinking velocity even the smallest friction slows you down. Try to smooth it out before the journey starts #edugladiators
A3 Maximizing our movement requires constant reflection. As leaders, we are charged to examine our current practices, make changes where necessary, and use these lessons learned to provide a continuous push forward #edugladiators
A3 Incorporate time to reflect with stakeholders on actual direction & speed in relation to desired (aspired) ones, "What's your vector, Victor?" Make course corrections as warranted. #edugladiators
A3) you have to get everyone on the bus, you can’t let anyone lag behind. Listen to them...and share the ‘why’ so you can get them on the bus as well #EduGladiators
A4) in my class I develop a calendar and checklist. Ss can see the end, they know what they need to do and when. I also model and show how good it feels to check something off the list, before the date. Celebrate! #edugladiators
A3: Clear communication is everything. And if relationships are strong enough, those conversations to adjust a misunderstanding or to clarify or redirect can be had. If someone is stuck, find out what their WD-40 is and apply! #EduGladiators
A3: I don’t know that I’m necessarily against a 2 steps forward, 1 step back approach to meaningful change. Sometimes we try to push so hard for something that we miss valuable lessons on how to improve, stabilize, and reboot for success in the end. #edugladiators
A4) Trust, Open & honest communication, Listen, not just to their team members’ words but meaning beneath them, need to build solid relationships Remember your roots, your beginnings, where you came from; be humble, have empathy #edugladiators
A2. Allow staff to have input and make them a part of the process. No one wants to be force fed anything. This promotes buy in & authentic participation in stead of going through the motions disgruntled.
A4: There needs to be enough time to spark interest and establish the purpose, but also gives freedom to explore and learn on one’s own...this goes for both staff and students. Give time to lead their own learning. #EduGladiators
A4: We respect time. We don't waste it. We aim to eliminate wasted steps. We share the workload and hold each other accountable. Once we are in the boat, we row in the same direction. #edugladiators

a3 Kindness and social intelligence operate on the +/- direction. For those of us (like me) who struggle with social IQ, there's growth mindset. #Edugladiators
The honest conversations component is imperative, Katelyn. Helps the team maintain transparency and focuses energy on our legitimate priorities #edugladiators
The rate of roll-out is crucial. Slow enough to get everyone on board. Fast enough to build a sense of urgency and to feel the movement. Tough balance that also requires communication. #EduGladiators
Good point true sustainable change is not a straight forward journey-there may be detours & speedbumps along the way-but the end goal is always the end goal no matter how we get there #edugladiators
A3: To maximize movement in a positive direction you have to know where you stand. Have some check-in points. Have a way to measure how you are doing in meeting goals and living up to your vision. #EduGladiators
A4) Ss have a @BookCreatorApp learning artifact that they document their learning journey. Often they can reflect where they want to go next. Empowered learning keeps their interest #personalizedlearning#edugladiators
A4 In my classroom, I map out units week by week & work hard to stick to pacing guide. Easy to get bogged down, but also important to reteach when necessary. It's sometimes hard to balance both. #edugladiators
A4: If a new idea or initiative is presented, there should be a follow up very quickly. I've seen too often something is presented... and then not talked about for a couple more weeks or even ever again. #EduGladiators
A4: Time is relative. The importance is in keeping initiatives relevant. If they’re no longer relevant, then no amount of time really mattered anyway. I don’t know about others, but I’m tired of the in 1 yr & out the next initiatives. #edugladiators
A4: Great Q, I am not sure I have figured that out yet. I am a run type and have a hard time waiting for those that like to crawl. I need to work on that. #edugladiators
A1: I think if we imagine our work as a journey and that with any journey there are easy and challenging paths but there is ever a path, people will walk and work together through a great deal. True for adults and kids. #EduGladiators
Lets all have the momentum to push to the end of the year! I get new students in one week, but lessons look different due to state testing. Find your momentum! GO! #EduGladiators
A4: By actively listening and following through. Communication and consistency build trust. Without trust, our organization becomes a rudderless boat. #edugladiators

A4) make time to sit down and share with others. I always just love to pop into a classroom that’s free and say can I share something with you. Spark others interest then! #EduGladiators
A4 In learning experiences, 1 timeline typically doesn't fit all. Offer multiple on-, off-ramps, opportunities for some to revisit while others can extend. Effective 2-way communication about dates/responsibilities/goals crucial to navigate complexity. #edugladiators
A4: Important or not only have a vision & shared goals, but also a strong action plan with concrete steps that help you maximize time & resources. #EduGladiators
A1: I generate energy by creating an engaging space for young scientists, rdrs, wrtrs, mathematicians, artists... Open space & eye-opening resources that pull kids right into our living workshops. (After sending opening sentiments, photos & postcard to kids.) #edugladiators
A4: If a new idea or initiative is presented, there should be a follow up very quickly. I've seen too often something is presented... and then not talked about for a couple more weeks or even ever again. #EduGladiators
Thank you So much for joing me today to build momentum! #EduGladiators
Thank you @mgrosstaylor for the amazing opportunity. Have a great week everyone!!
Exactly! I go back to my classroom and wonder whether I really pushed my Ss to their journey, or did I just congratulate the finish because some of them were at the finish line when they came to me. That darn differentiation of need...our Ts have it too! #EduGladiators
A3: Remember, leadership always means that people are going somewhere. They aren’t static. No journey, no leadership. When people feel liked, cared for, included, valued, and trusted, they begin to work together with their leader and each other. #edugladiators

A4 this starts by prioritizing the main thing-your lever for change & keeping focus on that-when we keep pilling on or let others pile on us (& they will) we slow ourselves down #eyeontheprize#edugladiators
A4: Remained focused on goals/purpose and accepting/supportive of the variety of different ways to reach those goals. Avoid distractions, of which there are many. #EduGladiators
Multiple on and off ramps! That's a great way to think about it. Everyone can contribute something even if they initially take more or less than they can chew. #edugladiators
A4 In learning experiences, 1 timeline typically doesn't fit all. Offer multiple on-, off-ramps, opportunities for some to revisit while others can extend. Effective 2-way communication about dates/responsibilities/goals crucial to navigate complexity. #edugladiators
Exactly! We’re not moving the goal every week/month/year. We’re finding ways to make everyone gets there, and then once there continues growing beyond. #EduGladiators
Good point true sustainable change is not a straight forward journey-there may be detours & speedbumps along the way-but the end goal is always the end goal no matter how we get there #edugladiators
A2: Be real, authentic. Listen to others' thoughts & ideas. Then, visit them while they're in the midst of their important work. See how it can meld into your visions. Participate with them. Then, invite them to join you in your work. #edugladiators
For me momentum is a mantra. I chase better with my Do-Reflect-Do Better mantra. I believe better trumps best. Best implies arrival, a rest. No more momentum. By chasing better, I am always moving forward. I approach learning with my kids in the same way. #EduGladiators
A1: SHARE your "islands of success". Just need to be cautious not to do it in a way that will make people jealous or think it's too complicated to achieve. #edugladiators
Q4. You must be transparent so that everyone knows the timeline/schedule . Staff won’t be surprised & have realistic expectations for progress & completion. #edugladiators
A4: Take the time to discover where the vision is being lived out. Invite others to meet you there; go visit in those rms during significant work. Or videotape/share blogs of those rms. As little steps are made, highlight those positives. Others will come along. #edugladiators
I love this plan! Not everyone is at the same starting line, and sometimes life and teaching happen. Allowing various entry, exit, and reentry points keeps the experiences relevant. #EduGladiators

Anyone interested in joining a VOXER - Wildcard Book club DM me your Voxer handle and I’ll add you to the group. Will start in about a week. #edugladiators
A4: we too often expect teachers to master things quickly or after one session of PD - teachers need learning personalized just like students! So do leaders! #edugladiators
