#elemchat Archive
Inspired by the brilliantly successful, powerful learning and collaboration opportunity that is the weekly #edchat, #elemchat was created to provide elementary (or primary) school educators with a venue for discussing issues and strategies that are specific to teaching in their context.

Not quite sure, I was wondering the same thing?
We can have our own ... topics?
1st time chatter. Don't know if i'm doing this right. Where is the host?
I'm struggling with the curation section of LEC.
Hi. Looking for the chat at 3:00?.. Hi there everyone
First time for me too! Was curious to learn how chats work.
That makes 3 of us.. I think Kim is in my tech class... What area are you from Chanell?
Yes, there are few of us there. Hi All.
Danielle, I am in your class too :-). Let's start chatting about stuff i guess..
Tech class at , I think is in mine too
Gotta love teachers who put things off.. Is there a specific topic for today's ? Can we make one?
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, I'm not all the good with Twitter. Hi All.
How do we recieve a transcript after the chat is done?
Yes! I'm not sure if my tweets were posting. Im feeling a little lost, thats for sure https://t.co/VtmNTk7rfG
Tech class at , I think is in mine too
This week we discussed multiple intelligence and teaching to every student. Any advice on that?
I can see everyone's tweets. Now what ....
I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a specific topic or not. I have a ELA/writing question if anyone is up for answering it.
go for it. What grade do you teach
What's your question? maybe someone can help
Well, I'm doing some lesson planning about how students can express their voice in a piece of writing. any ideas?
I'm not currently in the classroom but I am working with a 4th grader
excluding a opinion piece. Because in a opinion piece, thats pretty obvious
Just looked at the chat archives. They ended in 2012
I agree with Danielle, it's hard with our other requirements to dedicate enough time.
In fourth grade we integrate ELA and Social Studies or Science.
Could they do a narrative and then go back in and add adjectives to really paint the scene? https://t.co/5a8d7FiX9z
We are on a twitter chat without a moderator. How do we document the chat? This is so confusing. Help!
okay awesome. Thanks for that. He is a ELL student so he just writes with a very basic straightforward point of view.
I want to try and help him integrate some more vocab and give his writing more character
If you have access to tech have him use voice to text... sometimes orally telling a story is easier than writing it
I would encourage him to journal write. This would allow him to write about things he is interested in.
Have him tell you the story and you scribe it.. Pause to ask for more details at certain places
Journaling has helped my ELL students. Also try having him tell you the story. Use examples of voice using sentence frames..
Great, I love that idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I do ask him to describe verbally a lot.
After he expands, you can scribe, or if he's at a good point he can add the sentences himself. Use his level
I'm struggling with getting some students to sit in their chairs. A few are climbing on the table because they can't sit still.
does anyone do guided math or small group math? looking to start next year and am trying to get ideas..
Breaking it down depending on how he is doing with it as we go, sounds good.
i'm playing with alternative seating. My kids can grab a clipboard and work around the room, stand at a table, etc
I want to try guided writing. Am doing small group math but mostly for my below grade level math kiddos.
I pull small math groups while the other students are working on Reflex Math or Khan Academy.
Let's do a PLN for guided math next year with the new adoption.
Yes, they probably need a kinesthetic activity
I'm hoping for a mini-lesson, then three rotations, above, on grade and below, and a quick closure.. still unsure
Sounds like a great way to start it . I am going to do guided writing next year w/writer's workshop mini-mini lessons.
Unfortunately, I'm in a portable and dancing (even walking) make it shake. Every morning I have to recalibrate my board. We run.
Shucks, that must be frustrating. Run it out.
Do you know if they're are any chat groups that talk about Ed. books? Similar to a book club.
When I get my wobble stools, I'll send you a couple pics of my kids "working around the room" They're so focused!
It would be cool to see the different guided math approaches at the various grade levels. Let's start a PLN
Wow those are awesome stools.
