Please join us for a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 education. We will have a variety of moderators with a wide range and depth of design thinking experiences. Each week, we will connect the dots to the design thinking methodology and how it can and will play a bigger role in today’s K12 educational arena.

A1 Optimism. Must have faith that you'll find an answer & you'll understand the person you're serving. It'll be worth your while.
Remember to follow any new folks you meet on tonight’s chat!
Q2 As a novice in the land of where do you start? As a teacher 1st, as a DTer 2nd?
We need to design human experiences that promote acceptance of diverse perspectives & cognitive diversity.

DT includes the need-finding. What are the problems that really need solving? https://t.co/EMvAsdDHJ9
What is the difference, if any, between , , and ?
A2 Start with doing DT. Many ways, but Extraordinaires Design Studio so easy and starts with Empathy. Low barrier to entry .

A2 Application in c'room begins w/ considering S needs & outcomes. Slowing down the pace, welcoming community stories. Iterate.
of course. I just wondered/wandered away from the stock response "empathy based problem solving"
Q3 Where are your Discover points when it comes 2 finding a challenge Also what are your Ss Discover points?
Me too! I have already added it to my professional journal entry (goal sheet) for the year.
Don’t bend like a willow a great wander to do…

A3 Where does something DT-tastic live within my subject material (in my case, mostly history) -- including apprenticing pros?
That is, in fact, a piece by someone else. But I appreciate the shout-out, WD!
a3 honestly I start with real problems: I stop myself from solving them for the kids; redesigning our storage bins, etc
A2: I think I’m answering the right Q. Need-finding on campus can b easy start! Create bug list (like middle school bathrooms)
We've got in tonight! representing on the front!… https://t.co/amtfGw1YJy

For STEM, connect with , all underneath & aligned to the .
A3: I turn to the kids, they turn to their community. Gives us a chance to at least consider giving back!
would love 2experiment w/HMWs around staff meetings!
Q4 coming up It has a visual to respond to :)
Yep. Got that. Need for engineering
A3) when I or my colleagues get frustrated with systemic fails I find really powerful discover points

A4 Politics = drafting & passing legislature in US history; wicked problems = refugee crises, post-WW2 and right. This. Second.
it's been amazing how quickly people flocked to FB page.
So discover points are what you notice when you shut yourself up? If so, I dig it. And I'll shut up for a while...
A4: Rules/Laws, HMW convince the school board to change a policy that affects all of us? Make it better!
The turn from self to others--and essential move in the choreography of design thinking.
Frustration as the mother of discover points! https://t.co/83gPCZtXCj
A3) when I or my colleagues get frustrated with systemic fails I find really powerful discover points
A4 experiences make us who we r. We need 2 slow down more 2 mine exp. 4 opps 4 growth. Learning happens thru exp. not curriculum
A4 Just did spaces (classroom and library) redesigns. Watched HS Ss do Emp. Ints. today of MS Ss. So focused and keen.
Teachers are more or less students sitting at the big desks. The good ones are.
So much crossover btw & 2night; we really oughta plan how might we align & assess in world chat
A4 Wicked problems. Wicked awesome problems (in Boston). -2 (). Relationships.
oh it is a gamechanger; a little semantics goes a long way toward mindset shifting chk out for more on HMW

Employers want critical thinkers. We need to teach Ss to ask what, why and when in math.
A7 How can Discover Points launch your students into a challenge? Where do U go 2 keep going forward? Next Step?
I'm cross pollinating & tonight bc so much in both! https://t.co/00I4dZvWLx
Even in math, "how might we" sends the msg "there are multiple right ways." SO IMPORTANT!
A6 DT can't be compartmentalized into neat 45min blocks. It's interdisciplinary thinking. Let diverse id… https://t.co/wwC4UoCK0o
A4 Behaviors, & relationships are good DT points for younger students in exploring collaboration/empathy.
Q7 How can Discover Points launch your students into a challenge? Where do U go 2 keep going forward? Next Step?
still finding my ‘official place,’ and best decision 2 leave where I was. Lucky to find the folks during that time!
A7) Discover points lead to curiosity ➡️inquiry ➡️problem-solving ➡️
A7 discover points should elicit strong emotions. Ss create from place of passion not compliance. Ss design w/purpose & intent.
Not sure where this answer fits… I love doing playful challenges 2! Have done 2 Halloween DT challenges w/5th-8th graders!
Phone dying . . power rad mod on tonight!
Omg you guys... I don't know how I used to do ... still making dinner. :-( Miss you guys!
At our retreat this weekend we talked about “We Dos.” Learning together. https://t.co/oYp9HIixDk
. Also love saying "we" instead of "I." We did this. I was scribe, maybe, or the guide, but WE did it.
A7: As long as the Discover Point is something that Ss feel strongly about, I can let them be self-directed and self-paced.
