A1: Joel Schleicher, Director of Technology; Through my years as a classroom teacher, I surveyed my students annually; projects, cooperative learning & activities were among those which students liked best. #gfedchat
A1: Brittney Hoff, 2nd grade Lake Agassiz. Me moving around the room while teaching and using my energy keeps them more engaged than the iPad lately. #myfeethurt#gfedchat
Lori Heydt, Century, Reading Specialist. Sometimes keeping my students engaged can be as simple as using a funny voice or acting overly dramatic about whatever we are learning! #gfedchat
A1: Joseph Ostgarden, RRHS Science Teacher, Showing your own ridiculous interest and excitement goes a long way towards their interest and excitement #gfedchat
A2: It keeps them excited about the learning, and they usually have to really think about what they are doing. If you can use the game to help them apply what they've learned -even better! #gfedchat
A2: Games can make learning fun! Getting along with others, following rules, taking turns, working together are all life-long skills that are important. #gfedchat
A2: According to @MarzanoResearch , Domain 1, DQ5 Engaging Students, Element 25; The teacher uses academic games and inconsequential competition to maintain student engagement. #gfedchat
A2: I just talked about this today with @bmhanson7
It levels the playing field-those that usually fly high, don't necessarily know how to persevere when something becomes challenging! It also engages them and provides opportunities for problem solving!
A2: Did you know? Studies by @robertjmarzano have indicated that, "on average, using academic games in the classroom is associated with a 20 percentile point gain in student achievement." #gfedchat
A2: Games are a great way to review and allow for student engagement. Games allow for many other critical lessons to be learned outside of the content being taught or reviewed. #gfedchat
Jen Starcevic, elem Spanish. A2 Games are great for review and practice. They often hit some of the other “smarts” #multipleintelligences that we don’t always get to with paper pencil tasks. And the kids think they are having fun, not learning 😉#gfedchat
A2: Games seem to liven up the class periods, makes anything they are learning about more fun...also lets students collaborate on teams and builds teamwork skills #gfedchat
Q2: Enjoyment & success/confidence! Most of the Ss I interact with require reading interventions & need to feel successful at their exact level of ability while being gently nudged to extend their learning. Games are the perfect way to do this! #gfedchat
Yes, this is exactly right! I always loved game days in class. Usually it was a review for a big test. Just think if it was more routine than this! #gfedchat
A2: Games teach collaborative skills and motivate students. Kids are so engaged when they learn through play and learn so much from each other. #gfedchat
A2: Kinder Ss ❤️ games! They are engaged and learning lessons about turn taking, winning & losing (in addition to the actual game). #alwaysshakehands#gfedchat
A2: Engagement levels are higher. Problem solving, teamwork, and so much more! I have some Ss who love prodigy, while others prefer the ConnectEd app for games. #gfedchat
A3: I have an account. Did my first goose chase last week with third graders (who’d never done one before!!!) practicing Spanish color words. #gfedchat
A3: I could see it for a back to school / getting to know you activity. Also with math - I'm sure you could use it for every subject, just have to think outside the box! #gfedchat
A3: I used Goosechase last week as a part of an online prism class. My students used it to review before a math test. They had such a blast and were so engaged! #gfedchat

A4: I'm thinking about staff - Team building positively adds to staff culture, so “The Amazing School Race” provides an opportunity to take staff team building to a new level as missions are completed. #gfedchat
As you see the names of games pop up in our chat, I suggest adding them (duplicating them) to your game library. You can always edit them later to make them fit for your subjects area/grade. #gfedchat
A5: Keep in mind, the power of academic games is not only with engaged Ss as game participants/consumers, but more so when Ss are EMPOWERED to CREATE their own game for others. #gfedchat
A5: Ss love trying new things... also love being with their 5th grade buddies & learning from/with them. New way & exciting way to teach content. #gfedchat
A5: Super engaging, can provide formative or summative assessment or daily practice of content. Highly engaging incorporates the Communication, collaboration, creativity, teamwork, joy, and FUN! #gfedchat
I think my students would react positively but would also need to have a decent amount of background information in economics and/or business. I would have to decide which groups would play it based on exposure and interest. #gfedchat
A5: My students loved the competition aspect of this game. I loved being able to watch the live feed from my laptop to check in on their progress. #gfedchat

I have played GooseChase twice with games @rlord050 setup. She is Lord of Games! I observed one with her World Languages class and we did one for our Student Leadership group. #gfedchat
My fav thing about this was not ONE group asked who won!!! There is a leaderboard but I think they had so much fun they forgot about that part. #gfedchat
A6: Is there more pre-made games available on the site? Kahoot is nice in that way as there are hundreds of pre-made quizzes on a variety of topics #gfedchat
The second time we talked about how you decide on an order and then pass the iPad. One group even wrote down the order, just incase! Loved that this was their idea! #gfedchat
