Tonight we’re talking about improving the connection between the pre-work (#flippclass lesson) and in-class activity. Our main chat will be in #flipclasschat. We use a Q1/A1 format. Please include A’s and the hashtag in your responses to Q’s to keep the chat flowing. #flipclass
Manal from Mechanicsburg, PA. First grade teacher at Milton Hershey School. Flipping some things, but not everything for just a few years. I love butternut squash soup. #flipclass
Hey #flipclass Justin, HS math, Wi, i think this might be my 4th year flipping, pumpkin shaped Reese's cups are way better than the regular ones #flipclasschat
Pre-planning to “flip” a lesson for an Algebra 2 class for the 1st time and would like feedback regarding potential problems that may arise so that I am better prepared with solutions. Thanks a bunch! #flipclasschat#flipclass#PikeDLC

A1: I flip 99% of my lessons. With geometry I have them watch in class and then extend into practice. With precalculus i'm more flexible. they choose when they watch and when they do the practice #flipclass#flipclasschat
A2: I think of the videos as lower level (bloom's) material with a few examples included...the practice is where you're really going to develop you're understanding #flipclass#flipclasschat
A1: (continued) I love my learning maps, but this year "budget constraints" have brought me to a full online single source resource build. https://t.co/3U6KqXq8qy
That includes Edpuzzle, Deltamath, notes, Kuta and more.

A2
My flipped lessons are about lower-order Blooms (remember & understand) because we can't ahve a good class discussion & they can't do meaningful research or other projects without accurate background knowledge.

A2 - I try to flip lessons that are previews or introductions to lessons. I also flip lessons that I know students struggled with so they can hear the procedures again at home. I don’t expect mastery after watching the lessons. #flipclass#flipclasschat
Every day is a little different but usually some type of warm up...could be review from the previous day or ACT prep type problem...answer general questions for the group...turn them loose to practice #flipclass#flipclasschat
As a student, I didn't like to watch the video before class because I would get distracted and the materials never stay with me. Only after class lecture would the information makes sense, so how do I avoid this with my students? #flipclass#flipclasschat
Can't emphasize this enough...don't just "reteach" the material if Ss don't watch it. Have to hold them accountable. Have resources available in class if they choose not to watch it outside of class. #flipclass#flipclasschat
remind them the purpose of the videos. I don't think any teacher here would expect their students to have "mastered" the content just from watching a video. they're just getting the base so you can build from there #flipclass#flipclasschat
Nothing specifically, it was just to watch the video and "take note". I would just watch the video to "complete the assignment" but never learned anything from it #flipclasschat#flipclass
What were you expected to do while watching the video? I give structured note topics & sometimes a specific format as well (for 8th graders who are still learning about notes, studying, etc.)
#flipclasschat
Actually now that you mention it...We’d love some topic ideas. Have an idea, want to help moderate...here’s the survey. https://t.co/DjEAGL4ajG#flipclass
Actually last year my longer ones (12-15 mins) were more successful and appreciated than the 6-9 minute videos!
Maybe that's a good topic for a future #flipclasschat
One of my goals for this year is to either start utilizing edpuzzle to include in-video "quizzes" or a post-video "quiz" possibly using google forms? #flipclass#flipclasschat
As mentioned previously I love #edpuzzle but I have also been shown a great math tool #DeltaMath a great infinite practice set that allows students to get started on the "practice" component but gives instant feedback and method notes. #flipclasschat#flipclass
