#edsg Archive
The #edsg hashtag is used by stakeholders who want to share information with educators in Singapore. But there is a faithful group that tunes in every fortnight on Sundays, 9 to 10pm Tuesday, 9 to 10pm (Singapore time, UTC+8) for topical chats. We provide unPD, which is informal and unsanctioned professional development (PD) for educators. Such PD is free and self-organizing, but no less valuable than official PD. We promote progressive education and evaluation by practicing connected learning, critical thinking, and community building.

Some news this week: sch cleaning prog, 2-subject specialisation for Pri sch teachers, coding progs by vendors.
-
According to our records, turned four this month (https://t.co/sVcGrVWeMm). Do we mark its birthday or its funeral this year?
-
-
get my kids to watch the news on the sch cleaning program on the very next day.
-
Is this also the day we lay it to rest? Remember how a group met of us to prolong its chat life 1.5 years ago?
-
What was their response? Don't they already do class cleaning?
-
we usually get them to clean up their own area. This time round, it is more explicit. They opened up to the idea
-
Hello which I still think is on long term life support haha
-
and get them to see the difference between "clean" and "cleaned" city

-
dun worry. We have Medisave Life!
-
No rumblings? I'm surprised that the move had to be instituted.
-
Yeah, we have a very high per capita state of cleaners who are not Singaporean!
-
They should have kept the classroom/toilet duty of my time.
-
I think more for pri sch as the kids might be perceived to young to such things.
-
I wonder what its MediShield status is like. ;) How long can it go on? Do its guardians have a right to pull the plug?
-
explain to them why that is necessary before asking them to do some area cleaning. Not much grumbling on their part
-
Yep. Especially if they have folks picking up after them or at their beck and call.
-
Classroom cleaning duty is still common. Toilet duty not.
-
we can pull the plug but it might come back to life anytime
-
Which reminds me of the Green School in Bali which has "dry" loos for solid waste. The teachers have to clear them!
-
This reminds me of a teacher who complained that some of her teenaged students did not know how to hold a broom or mop. Heh.
-
toilet duty wasn't so bad. we mainly made sure the floors were clean. doing it might encourage kids to keep public loos clean.
-
The Talking Dead. Not the excellent talk show. Something dreadful.
-
There are reasons why teachers have separate loos. One is how student ones are sometimes biohazards. :P
-
-
Anything interesting happening at your end? News to digest, info to discuss?
-
See I don't recall our loos being that bad. Cos we had to clean them haha
-
Yeah. Civic consciousness isn't born. It's bred. I wonder if any "higher up" suggest loos be included.
-
i dun remember cleaning up loos
-
I had to. Sch & army. Had to supervise their cleaning as an adult too. Fun times. "Fun" times.
-
Maybe not all schools had it. Hmm.
-
Do we want/need another tweet up? Our last ones were linked to "life support" & events.
-
-
I've met -linked folks individually or in pairs since our last big meeting in 2015. But no "official" tweetups so far.
-
sometimes sprung to life with some interesting topics that matters . It is indeed a very "erratic" patient :-)
-
Gotta love librarians in acad institutes. They're a key group of leaders in . Wish could work with more of them!
-
-
Yes, I like that we do not wait for a particular day of the week or fortnight. But regular chats are like a pulse.
-
Maybe I'll DM times & places where I'll be & whoever's in the group can show up if they want.
-
too bad does not have any presence for the upcoming Else it is another way to create awareness
-
Event agenda not the same as informal, unPD agenda. It happens.
-
Or I might use WhatsApp since we have a few who are not on Twitter. Can't decide.
-
agree ! but sometimes we just to ride on "gahmen" machinery to push our own agenda lol
-
-
But if the bus is full or the captain does not ask you on board, then how? ;)
-
there is always the backdoor or we can climb to the top of the bus lol
-
I discovered a nice place last week. Google-like. But they're vacating later this year. I'll ask if we can meet
-
Then kena fine (it's gone up recently) or get labelled a troublemaker (too late, already labelled)!
-
but the impt thing is we get on the bus. lol.
-
BTW, how do you feel about the reactions on the FB page? It makes things so confusing !
-
I think we missed the bus in 2014. Twitter itself might have missed the bus. Here's a good analysis: https://t.co/lzYOiAETLe.
-
Hardly use FB. It's like my passport. It gets stamped once in a while. I don't look at the stamps if they're not interesting.
