New to Twitter chats? No problem. Questions are asked in Q1, Q2 format. For each response, please begin with A1, A2 and include #pln365 on the tail end.
A1 take a special day and may it a special opportunity for students to stretch and gain an appreciation of the event or holiday. There is no greater tool than real life examples we can learn from and take part in #pln365
A1: Learning can and should be fun all year round. When holidays and special occasions are taking place, I try to integrate the excitement towards the event directly into the learning culture. Scavenger hunts and learning stockings have been a few of my creations. #pln365
A1: concede some space at the beginning and the end of the day to acknowledge the day is special and to give the Ss something to look forward to. #pln365
A1: I tie the learning into the holiday. For example: Carving the pumpkin, roasting the seeds, and tasting pumpkin pie. Also, the life cycle of a pumpkin and non-fiction books about pumpkins. Top that off with a trip to the pumpkin patch! #PLN365
Q2: Halloween involves the wearing of costumes and our profession involves the wearing of many different hats. Which is your favorite professional hat to wear and why? #pln365
A2: My favorite hat is the welcoming committee. I enjoy meeting/greeting students every morning. A young man told me "I missed the bus today. Sorry for being late." I said, "It's good to see you. We're a better place when you're here." His smile validated my purpose. #pln365
A2 My favorite hat to wear is that of our story teller and champion for all the great things that go on in our building. I would also have to say it’s a tie with encourager. I love so very much to see our Ts take risks and try new things #pln365
The great thing about teaching science is that it’s everywhere! I love integrating the holidays with something scientifically relevant. It gives the Ss a nice brain break without losing a day of meaningful instruction. Tomorrow, we’re making #oobleck! #pln365

A1: If you have a solid foundation of learning and fun already established, and your classroom community is in place... it’s just another day together! #pln365
A2) Was reflecting on this earlier. Being a facilitator of the learning is one the best parts of my day. Trumps the paperwork and various meetings. #pln365
Q2: Halloween involves the wearing of costumes and our profession involves the wearing of many different hats. Which is your favorite professional hat to wear and why? #pln365
A2 My favorite is the encourager because Ss seem to get too little of it. Between broken families and absentee parents working to support their families, Ss need that positivity. #pln365
Q3: When children are on the road for trick or treat, there are rules to emphasize safety. How do you ensure that students feel safe in your classroom/school? #pln365
A3 I know this might seem cliched, but listen to them. Really. Stop what you're doing. Move away from the computer. Put down the paper. Just listen. Don't "should" on them. Don't tell them what to do. Just let them talk. That's safety. #pln365
A2: I think my favorite hat would have to be my cheerleader hat. I am my Ss’ #1 fan and I love celebrating them, especially when they struggle to find something to celebrate about themselves. #pln365
A3: We follow a sanctuary model where Ss create personal safety plans for emotional and mental support. And creating a culture where we work through challenges rather than allow them to escalate. #pln365
A3: I don't even touch the curriculum with my little people until after the first six weeks of school. I spend that time instilling a sense of safety and security, routines and procedures, building relationships, getting to know the expectations. #pln365
A3) This doesn't happen in a day but rather the course of the year. Develop honest and positive relationships that are the foundation of a safe learning environment. #pln365
Q3: When children are on the road for trick or treat, there are rules to emphasize safety. How do you ensure that students feel safe in your classroom/school? #pln365
A3 Consistency again allows Ss to know what to expect. Thus they are more willing to share and take chances. Also I respect when they don't feel like taking that chance. This works well with the daily journal. They know they can share safely with the right to pass. #pln365
Q4: Holidays and special occasions are typically events that we celebrate with others. What is your favorite way to celebrate your profession throughout the year beyond the walls of your school? #pln365
A3: For me in my science lab, safety is rooted both physically & mentally. Sure, we wear our goggles during labs, but I also work hard to create a culture of acceptance, support, collaboration & positivity. That makes Ss feel safe & confident contributing to my class. #pln365
A4- By collaborating with educators virtually and in person. Each day, I look to get a little better and to bring as many people with me as possible. #pln365
A4 Attending PD outside the district, like spedcamp, for a fresh pov. Never know when you might connect with someone and find a whole new world like #pln365!
A4: Taking time to chat with others in my profession, giving each other pep talks, sharing stories and catching up. It’s important to find time to share a laugh with your colleagues, and lend an open ear or heart when needed. #pln365
Q4: I try to share my experiences with the students of today with people that may not be associating with the youth. Keep all informed and eager to share the best of life. #pln365
