A2: admin should encourage/support/facilitate/develop Ts who are all in for betterment of the Ss
A2- admins should lead by example & take risks and encourage Ts to do same who in turn does same with Ss.
A2: Admin/Leadership can model the mindset and behaviors they expect. Take risks. Own & celebrate failure. Value Innovation Time
That white space is so crucial and often lacking. Great way to put it.
A2 LDRs should understand transparency, change, & risk taking R big challenges, especially considering the changing eval process
A2 Leaders need to give up some control & allow staff & students to be innovative. My Risk-Taking page https://t.co/Tplqoauafu

a2: leaders that can model the expectations they are expecting of their Ts will help.
A2: I think a culture is created when schools reach outside of their walls and hours!
Hey Rob! How's life down South?
, this would require some leaders to trust their Ts as professionals/trained experts rather than curric pushers.
it's either me or simmons. *fingers crossed*
Welcome. Absolutely love admins who encourage risk taking. Who reads their Principal's blog? Anyone? Is there one?
Modeling and practicing what you preach are HUGE components of Schools https://t.co/nhSui5K3Nz

Aw shucks. Miss ya! When is next time? ISTE? MassCUE? https://t.co/THf5Hqf6B9
NOW the party can begin. What's up ?!? Thanks for joining us this evening.
A2: School leaders have to model vulnerability & learn alongside staff. Use digital tools so T's can see they're worth learning
But admin acting in antiquated manner hinder those "below" from leading
if you don't blog, why would you expect your Ts to? and then why would you expect their Ss to blog?
A2. Lead by example. Identify leaders, ask them to share expertise
Build a culture of leadership from the ranks. Gives ownership & balance.
Amen! Our most effective work takes place where districts empower teachers rather than dictate instr. programs
Lots of good answers for A2. How about As who soliciting input from Ts, Ps, and Ss about where the school should head. .

Q3: [PD} How can school districts empower teachers & help support personalized professional learning? cc:
A2: There are ways to create "teacher rockstars" and school leaders are the key to these opportunities https://t.co/5jrETgdAtZ
You just described our As. P asks Ts what we need PD on, and President having meetings to discuss where we're going.
Q3: [PD} How can school districts empower teachers & help support personalized professional learning?
Agreed ideally we tap all resources to make decisions...builds trust to support widespread innovation https://t.co/fcvCSiRKez
Lots of good answers for A2. How about As who soliciting input from Ts, Ps, and Ss about where the school should head. .
It is amazing how an educator's blog can have more reach than that one person ever intended
A3: get rid of mandated testing!!!!!
- From Australia! Good Morning Mate. :)
This I want to know!!! https://t.co/CA3ScRsSUS
Q3: [PD} How can school districts empower teachers & help support personalized professional learning? cc:
Just a couple of more weeks of school, but then my summer professional learning responsibilities kick in :)
That's great to hear. I know it's tough for them w/ time constraint but modeling is huge & necessary for Ts
A2 visit classrooms. Know what is happening
A3: Let PD be grassroots. Celebrate and empower teacher leaders. Ts are more likely to learn from other Ts
A3 Open up meeting times for personal growth (personal PD goals), style staff mtgs, collaborative inquiry groups.
A3 practice what u preach create multiple learning pathways for teachers..really like micro credentials for and badging ideas
A3: Ask Ts about their passion projects and provide resources for implementation
- Similar to how the movement started...
I'm so glad I started mine when we started our 1:1 Gave me a reason to reflect & now it's become a priority
A3 The research is clear on learner agency. Empowerment & trust come from relationship building.
A3: I have just started scratching the surface of Gameifying ProD based on t’s interest and school vision
I'm just dad in the summer and I love it!
A2: Schools can provide growth opportunities thru PD & letting Ts know its ok to fail - learn from mistakes to be
A3: Listen to the teachers' needs. Give teachers different options for PD with the freedom to choose
Love this! https://t.co/199Tv4dv0y
A3: Let PD be grassroots. Celebrate and empower teacher leaders. Ts are more likely to learn from other Ts

A3 give Ts pd pts for unconferences & trust to know their needs. Show value of lifelong learning mindset https://t.co/GG1BdMuxIn
Q3: [PD} How can school districts empower teachers & help support personalized professional learning? cc:
A3: With PD, the 1 size fits all, sit and get model shows no impact. PD must be personal, relevant, and engaging for impact.
A3: Show them was personalized learning feels like by personalizing PD. Then watch the magic in their classrooms happen
I love this idea https://t.co/lflV28TM9Z
A3 Open up meeting times for personal growth (personal PD goals), style staff mtgs, collaborative inquiry groups.
A3.1 When learners are transparent w/ their learning - the benefits are reciprocal & far-reaching (audience effect)

a3: build in time throughout the schoolday and year to get help with any tech training needs. can't wait until a large PD day
A3: create opportunities for Ts to experience new & better learning, observe peers, provide space to learn & solve challenges

A3: I had a chance to talk about my passion for Applying Pedagogy to PD at https://t.co/MUfUj12Rdk + SUPPORT BLENDED PD
A3: Giving teachers time and space to collaborate, a teacher 'War Room' I learn much from open collaborative time w/ other Ts
Experimented w Uncommon Time for Ts. The idea was not to have every T gathered in the same mtg. Opened up cross curric/dept conv
does cruel and unusual mean anything to you! Hahah
A3: Don't waste T's time. ID their needs- provide appropriate resources, opportunities & support. Recognize & celebrate growth
Districts and schools need to move past the drive-by model and create systematic, embedded structures of support
A3: Modeling flipped or blended learning for Ts, will encourage what we want to see in our classrooms w/ differentiated learning
A3: PD cannot come from one source(admin), learning doesn’t comes from one source(t’s) differentiate opps and experiences!
A3 Approach PD like . Give Ts their own 20% time to develop their passions
, grateful to our adm for "kicking us out of school" for one day each year to obs other Ts. Great learning to be had!
A3 Provide PD that is beneficial & relevant. Encourage ts to build PLNs w/ like minded educators, build discussions, & share.
Creating time for thinking, reflecting, and learning is so important for growth https://t.co/RnF55gdguf
A3: Giving teachers time and space to collaborate, a teacher 'War Room' I learn much from open collaborative time w/ other Ts
Thankfully I think with the progression of technology will become easier and easier to be personal
We started following our All-Faculty meeting w/ PLC's and then Dept. meetings to keep the process moving forward
A3 encouraged teachers to find something they love and explore how to use it in their classroom
toying with right now but always looking for other ideas…anything you have come across?
A3: Ts should be given latitude to collaborate, experiment, even relinquish class to Ss so they can drive
A3.2 EDUs embrace a learner's mindset. Lifelong learning is intrinsically valued & shared
So wish we could do this! https://t.co/82ZhT7mitV
, grateful to our adm for "kicking us out of school" for one day each year to obs other Ts. Great learning to be had!

, grateful to our adm for "kicking us out of school" for one day each year to obs other Ts. Great learning to be had!
A3: Nurture and Empower (Teachers Teaching Teachers Tech) AND Recognize PLN work as invaluable PD https://t.co/20WJt4sU02
A3: leaders learn form each other and from their teachers. Humility encourages innovation.
The best PD presenters are the teachers implementing Tech in the classrooms!
Q3: [PD} How can districts empower teachers & help support personalized professional learning?
Innovator's Mindset - on my must read list for summer!
A3: Encourage Ts to visit other classrooms to see the benefits in action
That's a powerful way to 'encourage' observation & growth Would love to hear more about it. Go to diff school?
would love to be able to use a google platform...possibly sheets or something...not all Ts have access to Lms
Can't get anywhere w/ a closed mind! Need to pry it open if necessary!
A3.3 Currently reading "Future Wise" convinced we need to have tough convos about lifeworthy learning; https://t.co/pZvXdzNsRJ
A3 support teachers to look at ways to engage student without tech sometimes
Sound like the learning walks you guys have started doing.
Q4 coming up in 1 minute…
A3: provide choice and also time to apply learning.
Q4: What are great TOOLS & resources for DIGITAL CONTENT that districts can use to become ? .
def gets your mind going. Ideas will brew in no time. Mostly while rdg.
I think districts can support their teachers innovation by helping them join the
a3: do 10 minute teacher talks about how they teach a lesson, w or w/o tech, before faculty meetings
really drives competitive collaboration
Agreed. I'd love to see our Ts just take more advantage of the great Ts around them.
is now trending in USA, ranking 49
- Wow. Thanks, bud! Honored.
A4: couldn't imagine teaching w/out Socrative, pages, ebackpack, iMovie, seesaw, Adobe Voice, Padlet to name a few
A4: NETP (https://t.co/6G63Kxqguv ) ain't bad. But the best resources are blog posts & conversations we have with our eduheroes
A4 I don't know how EDUs stay current & relevant without RSS readers & social media accounts?!?
Q4: What are great TOOLS & resources for DIGITAL CONTENT that districts can use to become ? ...
Jumping in late in . Already inspired by the exchange of ideas! :)
- Any district can sign up. They're all totally free.
A4 is probably one of the most powerful developments in the last 10 years in education
Q4: What are great TOOLS & resources for DIGITAL CONTENT that districts can use to become ?
A4: I'm getting a lot out of microcredentials on . It's a great opportunity for Ts to lead PD.
A4: Open Licensed Resources: ! https://t.co/FkIk5QhPi4
Q4: What are great TOOLS & resources for DIGITAL CONTENT that districts can use to become ? .
Great to see you Linda! Hope all is well in 214.
It truly amazes me, that Ts refuse to get on here. But those same Ts have lived in Silo for a long time
A4: GAFE - when looking at new tech, it's not what it can do right now but where is the tech going? GAFE is continually growing
A4 kids don't know how to fold, cut scissors and tape together pieces. Those all the hallmarks of ideation
A4: great tool for t’s w/o access to tech—just need 1 device
A4: I know at this point it's nothing new but Google apps have really elevated S collaboration.
a4: encourage (require?) your Ts get google certified at level 2
A4: OER is huge. Our school eliminated approx. 60 paid textbooks for next year. & others ROCK!
A4: GAFE is an awesome tool... BUT, Drive could essentially be a set of digital worksheets = No impact. Must use well!
Collaboration is the key with GAFE. If that isn't the goal, might as well hand out paper. https://t.co/nzvWorV9G7
A4: GAFE is an awesome tool... BUT, Drive could essentially be a set of digital worksheets = No impact. Must use well!
Our Ts & Admin have taken off with GForms for collecting & communicating. Saving HUNDREDS of hours of work (for me)
My next major exploration - too powerful to ignore!
A4: anything that allows for learners to create & solve challenges that are relevant... Oh &
A valid point that must be made again and again. https://t.co/cLJP7jg15t
A4: GAFE is an awesome tool... BUT, Drive could essentially be a set of digital worksheets = No impact. Must use well!
I think GAFE is most powerful when used as a collaboration tool.
- I think we co-author a post on it. DRIVE - the digital worksheet storage hub...for many. :)
A4 and are two must follows...lots of great research based work on school models
. Yes, cross the SAMR line
A4: We plan on using next year so that T's can guide their own learning & growth- based on their needs & interests
Just got the Alg 2 Trig book, even the print version for the T was only $58. Really well done.
Some other Ts will be putting their resources together to use the following year. Very excited
SAMR needs to leave kids alone. Limits kids freedom to learn
A4 Blogging has broadened my perspective & deepened my learning. I subscribe to hundreds, read dozens daily
Yes! https://t.co/nZVTtT79up
Agreed. I've spent a lot more time collaborating with my students while they're working in Drive. Live feedback
Can you tell us a little more about this?
Q5 coming up in 1 minute…
Thanks for sharing. Looks like I've got more reading later tonight (After Chicago PD)
Still more time to hop on talking schools. Join us!
open to hearing more of your thoughts on this
It is about collaborative work and crowd-sourcing knowledge and skills... not an acronym. https://t.co/lC4xu55O8p
SAMR needs to leave kids alone. Limits kids freedom to learn
This is also my fear with turning into digital textbooks instead of choice, agency & access https://t.co/hW43qzpX8Z
A4: GAFE is an awesome tool... BUT, Drive could essentially be a set of digital worksheets = No impact. Must use well!
A4: , , makes every presentation interactive = deeper engagement
A4: is great resource for Ss to think outside the box. Doing anything to develop critical thinking is
It is a subscription site of teacher created tutorials for any tech tool/resource you can imagine
is working on a Librarian strand. More to come! -
I agree... If only I had time to write more posts!
Q5: [Digital Learning] What does effective digital learning look like? How can technology be infused properly? .
we are implementing this next year! So pumped!
Oh No! You just opened a can of worms we don't know how to close.
Be cautious w/ theories that categorize learning. Is that personal?
Digital textbooks are worse than the bound ones. Same medium, just more glitchy. OER is transformative.
Videos open to all school staff, teachers, and parents
- YEP! So many "FREE, Open" resources are simply digital PDFs. Pass. Must do better than that for .
WOW! Along with the Student Standards, Librarian Strand would be AMAZING! https://t.co/AaQ7M3V4o0
is working on a Librarian strand. More to come! -
yes! We need to focus energy on how to help curate and evaluate resources not do it for them
A5: It cuts down on time or provides Ts w more time to practice skills. Tech should facilitate/transform learning, not replace
Q5: [Digital Learning] What does effective digital learning look like? How can technology be infused properly? ...
Encourage Ts to utilize OER from various sources & add them to their own resources to fit THEIR Ss
I wld say "personal" is a categ in itslf, but luv 2 hr othr prspctv & lrn
A5: It should look different for each need but my general rule is process with paper and pencil and produce with technology
A5 Effectiveness is in the eye of the learner. I appreciate & community-based efforts "Most Likely to Succeed" comes 2 mind
A5: The research on digital learning is clear... Students must use to explore, design, create... NOT the digital drill & kill
students should be able to pick the right tools for a task. Tech is not the only answer
absolutely! T’s are no longer the keepers of information—encourage learning rather than feeding information!
Interesting perspective. Definitely need to think on this. https://t.co/g18JlkljSl
A5: It should look different for each need but my general rule is process with paper and pencil and produce with technology
love this idea of using YouTube how tos for kinder
A5: Good digital learning combines media with an opportunity to easily reflect on the learning. does a good job of this
Yes, agreed w ur earlier stmt about this, wholeheartedly
So true! https://t.co/5yDaXiWbiK
absolutely! T’s are no longer the keepers of information—encourage learning rather than feeding information!
A5: Consume, but also design and create. Observe, but also analyze and produce. Those are the keys to digital learning.
A5: Effective Dig Learning should be invisible. It should be part of the process - an available resource when needed.
A5 inquiry is king...get kids asking and leverage to find them
why do we want to redefine anything? I want innovation.
I agree ! What are a few of your "go to" blogs?
Q5: [Digital Learning] What does effective digital learning look like? How can technology be infused properly?
yes & this requires trust and allowing Ts to take risks. Paradigm shift = teacher as a designer
good I can put my soapbox away
You really got me thinking about this the other night. Made me hate the letter S
A5: Consumption with edtech - minimal/low impact. Creation with edtech - if higher order = worth the money.
appreciate chance to share ideas and learn
Absolutely! https://t.co/Zkr7EqTe6O
A5: Consume, but also design and create. Observe, but also analyze and produce. Those are the keys to digital learning.
no I will make you hate the word ARM
So many, I read daily. Several excellent bloggers in this chat!
A5: Open-ended ; For content, have to ensure "learning" vs. "practice" activities: https://t.co/sd66s0cf0k (go to 4:17)
Yes. Tech is a tool like many others. Need to teach Ss how to choose best tool for purpose. https://t.co/8toRL7gJVQ
A5: Effective Dig Learning should be invisible. It should be part of the process - an available resource when needed.
A5 when you do not notice that tech is in the room. Engagement should be what you notice
But we also want students to be able to consume, analyze, dissect, & then create based on those ideas https://t.co/VqqACYdqUL
A5: Consumption with edtech - minimal/low impact. Creation with edtech - if higher order = worth the money.
A5: Equal parts consumption & creation
We have to be careful with saying/assuming "engagement = learning". Engagement on low level tasks = minimal/if any learning.
Great point. We are trying to encourage Ts to create more 'engaging' lessons. This is a powerful point.
- True. But, you can walk in room, every kid on device, "engaged", and learning nothing. Engaged in high levels.
bring me a shrubbery and we'll call it a day
Checking out early, great stuff to ought everyone!
YES! https://t.co/gO2OptIq4R
We have to be careful with saying/assuming "engagement = learning". Engagement on low level tasks = minimal/if any learning.
A5: 1:1 - It's a Culture, Not a Ratio - have to break away from the way we've always done it; great pic: https://t.co/iT6xhcAKO2
Just so my friends know, my house is shaking as I tweet bc my hubby has a gig tomorrow night & he is practicing in the basement.
blushing* - you grouped me w/ a few of my faves! THX 4 reading!
Q6 coming up in 1 minute…
Yes, "engaged" is losing its meaning
redefining isn't means a reinterpretation of known info. I want combine stream of knowledge
We are starting our class next year. Started an engineering program this year. Keep moving to the future
A5: Effective digital learning = Students engaged in purposeful learning whether it is content or skills related
Thank you Got to run but am inspired to keep pushing for improved learning!
Thank you Got to run but am inspired to keep pushing for improved learning!
Yes. We are encouraged to visit a classroom connected to one of our personal PD goals.
A5: Part of how we learn, how we create, how we share- infused. Not an add-on,not bling, not buzz...just part of how things are
Q6 - What will you take from tonight's chat and implement tomorrow? .
I see engagement a smiles and noise. Buried heads is not engagement. That is torture
I've seen "engaging" busy work already with what my first grader brings home in "packets." Steer clear ! https://t.co/BUMCT8qyfc
We have to be careful with saying/assuming "engagement = learning". Engagement on low level tasks = minimal/if any learning.
built into the DNA of the classroom
