My mind goes to music curriculum, since that's the subject I taught. One thing I like about it is that it not as prescribed as some other subjects - standards are there, but can be taught through all different kinds of music. #sunchat
  • TheJimMcClain Jan 14 @ 9:14 AM EST
First thing I do is give them a writing prompt: "What I Would Do with One Billion Dollars." You will find out everything you need to know about your students. What they like, what their life is like, who's in jail; they will literally tell you everything. Then build. #sunchat
  • tiffanytruitt Jan 14 @ 9:14 AM EST
I love this. Curriculum SHOULD be a fluid thing. If our job is to meet the needs of our students, we can't rely on it as fixed, rigid structure. #sunchat

  • susankotch Jan 14 @ 9:15 AM EST
Yes! Resume-building should be done starting in 8th grade. Kids can get their first jobs at 14, so they should be looking at how to highlight their skill sets and present them to an employer! #sunchat

My current passion is ensuring the ELA classroom is an ACTIVE experience by infusing it with the concept of #STEAM. Students need to see the skills associated with reading/writing are needed in all fields. Real. World. Relevance. #sunchat
  • susankotch Jan 14 @ 9:17 AM EST
@bonnisolomon - every time they write there is an opportunity to throw in a grammar lesson. I still can't believe it's not really prevalent in all the standards - it assumes the kids know how to construct sentences! (but we know better!) #sunchat
    • bonnisolomon Jan 14 @ 9:11 AM EST

First thing I do is give them a writing prompt: "What I Would Do with One Billion Dollars." You will find out everything you need to know about your students. What they like, what their life is like, who's in jail; they will literally tell you everything. Then build. #sunchat
