Good morning #LeadLAP! Sorry to jump on late-A2 trying to provide time for conversation among colleagues is certainly challenging, but Iāve learned itās not about how many show up, itās about the moments we make even when itās only a few of us!
A3. There are many paths to the same location. Find what the students are interested in and use it. If they like something you will get better work. As a band director, the elements I want them to demonstrate can be found in all types of music. Let them choose. #LeadLAP
A3: We have "club day" once a month. Every adult in the building hosts a club. Yoga, engineering, calligraphy, soccer...and everything in between! The adults get to share their passions & students get to choose what they want to explore. #TMGenius#Path2Serendipity#LeadLAP
Q3: CRAFT-ing a need-satisfying classroom is in the First Stop along The Path to Serendipity. The āCā in CRAFT stands for choice. Tell us how you incorporate student choice into your classroom or school. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A3: Many opportunities for choice in culinary. Can choose missions to personalize learning, personalize dishes with own creative touches, create dishes for challenges. Here are some dishes from this weekās Mediterranean pitstop in our Amazing Race.
#leadlap
#LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity A3: There is so much I have to do to incorporate this; but so choice I give is how much time they need to complete projects. Pacing is huge for me with students. Always giving them opportunity to revise.
Thank you, Allyson. It was a horribly challenging part of my journey filled with incredible blessings as I learned to receive loving care and to forgive. #leadlap#Path2Serendipity
A3: For Ts choice in PD and instructional risk-taking and model the choice Iād like to see. Led to the joy you see in this photo! For Ss take the learning outdoors, in the halls, on the floor. Choice of activities and assessments for learning. #leadlap
A3: I offer flexible seating, many options for practicing/demonstrating the same skill, time in the day that is completely student-led, and I have learned to pause before saying "no" to ask myself why the reflexive no was there. #LeadLAP
A3: Offer a wide variety of classes - students choose those that interest them; support a variety of clubs & encourage st to create their own to match their interests; host a variety of AS activities; coach teachers on incorporating st choice into their lessons & units #LeadLAP
A4: Restorative circles can create instant bonds! We can also encourage student-student relationships by ensuring students have structured roles in collaborative work and have to work w/ all others throughout the year. #LeadLAP
Q4: The āRā in CRAFT stands for relationships. How do you support students to make strong, positive relationships with each other? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A2. I learned the importance of being heard from my brother who had Downās syndrome. He would end conversations with a command āSay itā and listen as you repeated what he had said to make sure you got it. #LeadLAP. PS this #leadlap is giving me feelings.
A4: I've done lots of things, like the All About Me Kahoots that Ss create and we play all year when the lesson is shorter than the period, but my new fav is the #EduProtocols Frayer a Friend! That was awesome! @jcorippo@mhebern#LeadLAP
Same holds true for the educators I have worked with. We all have love in our hearts for students. Knowing that can help us connect in different ways when we disagree. #LeadLAP
A3: Not in a classroom or just one school right now. Important to model the element of choice in PD or coaching so that Ts can transfer it into their classrooms. Simple answer: content, process, and/or product #LeadLAP#path2serendipity
A4: Everything we do brings us closer to others, or takes us further apart. Every. Little. Thing. We have to be aware of this all the time so we are building relationships up rather than tearing them down.
Here is a page from #Path2Serendipity that illustrates this.
#LEADlap
A3) Choice in our classroom happens with final projects for some. Options to make a video, create a summarized graphic novel, or options for questions to answer. If Ss choose, they feel more invested. #LeadLAP
A2: A challenge I faced was the shift of teacher evaluations. After a great deal of collaboration, it stressed and reinforced that relationships and trust are what matter. Now we even do Learning Walks where teachers visit 2 classrooms in lieu of May Faculty mtg. #LeadLAP
A4: R- relationships - Funny, at the beginning of the year I was going to eliminate snack time to increase instruction - Teacher said that this is important social time for Ss to learn how to have dialogue and make convos - good call #LeadLAP
Q4: The āRā in CRAFT stands for relationships. How do you support students to make strong, positive relationships with each other? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4. The best way to help students with building great relationships is to serve as an exemplar. Relationships matter and always will. Our dedication to building strong ones with students will inspire them to also build strong and productive relationships. #LeadLAP
A3 start with the essential question and then guide Ss to find answers in varying ways. They then share their understanding that goes well beyond standards. #LeadLAP
A4: I have a growing number of teachers on my staff who do a great job of modeling relationships for our students. Again, we're not there, but we work hard at it. #LeadLAP
RT Q4: The āRā in CRAFT stands for relationships. How do you support students to make strong, positive relationships with each other? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A3: I did not love school as a student. Heck, I didn't even like it. Have incredible responsibility to make sure that our Ss don't feel the same way. Ss NEED to be empowered with choice and voice in the classroom! Here is a pic of a page from The #Path2Serendipity#LeadLAP
A4. If you dont know them you cant reach them. You dont reach them you really cant teach them. GET TO KNOW YOUR KIDS! Talk with them. Ask them what they are interested in. Use that info to your advantage. #LeadLAP
A4: Modeling positive relationships by treating students with respect supports them so they can form those same relationships with each other #leadlap#Path2Serendipity
#LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity A4: I stop making decisions and giving them answer they can find for themselves. I cultivate that the class is your family, so ask each other for help.
A4: Building positive relationships from begininning is incredibly important. Here is a blog post I wrote about starting the year! https://t.co/CERD2cXA8E#leadlap
Thank you for joining us from vaca Sean!! I love that your girls and your wife surprised you at school! You are amazing, my friend. Can't wait for #ThePepperEffect#LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
Is there a schedule of when the ā#___LAPā twitter chats happen? Theyāre chalk full of great peeps and great thoughts and Iām always bummed to miss them by a few minutes...and sometimes a few days. š TIA! @burgessdave@burgess_shelley#LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4: I believe in modeling the relationships for the students. Be their advocate, be there to listen, encourage, support and guide. Our role as educators is to prepare students for the world outside of our schools. It begins with fostering relationships. #leadlap
A4 - Been reading the book Nonviolent Communication by Rosenberg. Normally way too touchy-feely for me... But it's showing me how to be a much more compassionate communicator. Observe. Feel. Explain. Request. Immediate results with kids. #leadlap
I agree. Sometimes there is shame attached to it for folks and I completely understand that, but I choose to share my story because it can give someone hope. Everyday I am trying to live a more authentic life. Itās freeing! #LEADlap
A4: intentional morning meetings, having lunch with the kids to Foster communication and letting kids solve problems with our supervision vs doing it for them #LeadLAP
A4: Get to know Ss, talk with them in class about extracurriculars, interests, etc. Celebrate them to build relationships with them and their peers. #LeadLAP
A2: Over the past couple of years I have FINALLY learned to do the hard things. Do the scary things. Do the uncomfortable things. I've learned more and grown more through taking those leaps than ever before. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity#TMGenius
Q2: #Path2Serendipity is about embracing all experiences, especially our challenges & uncovering the beautiful lessons they contain. Tell us about a beautiful lesson you learned from a challenge. #LeadLAP
A4: I model for them what I expect from them and for each other. When they know that you care, & that their peers care, they will open up and share themselves. Relationships are key to building a sense of community. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity#LoveLiteracyLearning
A3: As a principal, I invite Ss to be part of interviews and other decisions like curriculum and assessment resources for our building. Commitment matters! #fmsteach#leadlap
A4) education is a ārelationshipā / people business. If you do not develop positive, productive relationships with students, staff, parents, and all other educational stakeholders, you have nothing. When you have no relationship, it creates animosity and anger. #LEADlap
Also need educators who werenāt āmodelā students. I share stories with my Ss about ridiculous choices I made as a S; reminds them that Iām human. Gives me more inspiration to create experiences that eliminate the behaviors I may have exhibited as a S. #LeadLAP
A3: We focus on building a school community where everyone knows they belong & have a voice. It's "how we do things." Sometimes it's just as easy as asking "What do you like?" "What could we do better?" People have an innate desire to be a part of the story. Let them. #LeadLAP
The best learning comes when Ss have the opportunity to teach themselves! As #TeacherOfTheDay (chosen via @Flipgrid), Miss Torres decided she wanted to create her own game to teach her peers about contractions during small group. She calls it āContraction Actionā! @KirkElementary
a4 My S teams have assigned roles as in professional work environs & must support each other to increase "productivity." They learn how to work through relationship challenges and become better with and for each other. #leadlap
Q4: My English 11 class has an Instagram page. I post videos of them voluntarily sharing their throughts about class or work they did in class. I have also posted random videos on the āstoryā about how much I love being their teacher. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity

A3) We created a #formative Bloom Ball for Romeo & Juliet and everyone chose which side they would contribute. Some are written, drawn, or typed. #LeadLAP
A4: Relationships are a huge focus at our school. Students learning to design and build together, class meetings to share and solve issues, Leadership groups, Ss running assemblies, many clubs & activities, SEL focus in classrooms... #LeadLAP

A4. We need to honor the human element in our work. A balance between data sets and the human condition is absolutely necessary. Iām hopeful for a future in public education where we honor both. #LEADlap
A4: We use #PBIS to reward students for caring and kindness and weāve incorporated daily #restorativecircles into all of our classrooms this year! Also, cross grade level opportunities establish relationships among different ages/grades of Ss in our school community. #leadlap
A4: Students need the social skills and character traits to build relationships with each other! Classroom culture is a subset of school culture. We are implementing a schoolwide character ed program where every student earns recognition each month. Focus: Positive. #LeadLAP
A4: I'm working with staff to implement an advisory/homeroom period to build connections and community for our 2,200 student HS (goal: make our huge school feel a smaller & more inclusive). Our leadership students host purposeful events & activities to bring st together. #LeadLAP
A3/4 (running behind so combining:) I tweet about #geniushour A LOT because itās just that powerful-choice & relationships skyrocket & Ss get to know each other on a whole new level. #leadlap
A4 - Relationships matter most and modeling for our kids is key. Shaking hands, eye contact, investing in others, in a genuine and positive way. #leadlap
A4: We are an @EnergyBusSchool & intentionally grow our teachers and students as positive leaders. These skills help us learn how to build strong relationships w each other while supporting each other to be the best we can be. #LeadLAP
A4: Students need to recognize that as they get older teachers and professors are less hands on and they must become reliant on peers to grow. It is critical to build classroom models that transfer the ownership of content from the teachers to students #LEADlap
A5: In any power struggle I step back and I LISTEN more than I speak. People want to be heard and most conflicts are about misunderstandings or miscommunication. I work hard not to talk over people of any age. #LeadLAP
Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4: We support connections by first connecting our faculty and staff. Morning meetings & restorative circles are such a strong way to unleash the power of relationships and build emotional literacy in a safe setting. #leadlap#Path2Serendipity
Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4: I establish in my classroom the truth that "everyone knows something I don't." I try to instill this in my Ss so they always remember that we are a team & stronger together. My Ss ask each other ?s, compliment each other, encourage each other. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
RT Q4: The āRā in CRAFT stands for relationships. How do you support students to make strong, positive relationships with each other? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4-See & acknowledge EVERY Ss-this makes the Ss see each other. Celebrate strengths and cheerlead the challenges--when you become a cheerleader--Ss join in and support each other #leadlap
Q4: The āRā in CRAFT stands for relationships. How do you support students to make strong, positive relationships with each other? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A5. Great question to ask ourselves daily! I avoid making the student the focus. The unwanted behavior is my focus. I try to help them find a way to do better. #Leadlap
Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A5: If you have been in a power struggle with Ss, raise your hand. The chat goes silent because no one can type--everyone's hand is up. It is OK, it will happen. Just don't make Ss do something stupid because you told them to when you were mad. #Path2Serendipity#LeadLAP
A5: Choice in setting limits always helps. When students know that you're listening (really listening) to what they need, you can get them where you need them to go... eventually. Sometimes they just need you to listen #LeadLAP
A5. The only power we need to be tapping into is the power inside of us to do great things, to overcome obstacles, to serve and to love others to the best of our ability. I see power struggles as unproductive. We need to work together to accomplish the goals we set. #leadlap
A5: The best way to avoid power struggles is to frontload your expectations, and give regular reminders of them. Students don't argue nearly as much if expectations are crystal clear. #LeadLAP
A4: Foster positive relationships from Day1 & encourage mindset throughout year. We created these last wk. SS will be more apt to love one another if they know one another. (Oooh...I may have just thought of my next #HeardItFromHankins quote!)
#LeadLAPhttps://t.co/76OjYZG1Lv
#LeadLAP. A4: Ss are humans. Get to know them. Let them get to know you. The enjoyabe time you take to do this will lessen the decidedly not enjoyable time needed for discipline.
A5: Iām super honest and vulnerable with my Ss. I just tell them that Iām and I need a minute before I say anything else. I always end those conversations with reminding them that I love them. #unconditionalmamaloveforSs#LeadLAP
YES. We have to own the fact that "I am either supporting a positive culture or I am tearing it down." There is no middle ground. Love this! #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A5: Each side feels strongly & is willing to defend their perspective. I try to stop, reflect, and place myself in their shoes. Am I listening? Do I hear what theyāre trying to say? What can I do to help? Am I making this worse? #LeadLAP#LoveLiteracyLearning
A5: I have gone with the āpraise in public; punish in privateā idea when I need to counsel a child...you donāt do it in front of other students...
#LeadLAP
Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
RT Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A4: From Day 1, I let my Ss know that we are a family and within families there are expectations of how we treat eachother in times of joy and in times of frustration. We support each other, are kind and respectful ALWAYS. I model conflict resolution and grace. #LeadLAP
A4) Itās amazing how much complimenting and encouraging my Ss, gives them the courage to build each other up. We are an #inclusive school. So modeling #positivefeedback really works. Iāve seen kidsā self esteem totally grow from this environment. #LeadLAP
A5: First, I let them know I care. Then, I listen as students say what they need to say, acknowledge and validate their concerns/thoughts, and let them know my side. Then, I ask what we can do to work together to make sure that we get the best outcome.
A5: Power struggles with Ss are avoided by less talking and more listening and sometimes no talking at all. Planned ignoring can work for some Ss in some situations. With adults, the same! #leadlap
How do we begin to see that solutions come from within us all working to make the changes needed to address grand challenges and often thorny problems- we canāt wait until ātheyā do it for us #satchat#hacklearning#hackleadership#LEADlap#SaturdayMorning
A5: Learned at a Master Teacher's seminar to always provide choices for S so he/she can save face, not to back them in corner. Option 1 is their current course of action plus remind of consequence, and Option 2 is the escape route I provide. Tone/body lang important too. #LeadLAP
Our admin recently started advising making a list. So I give the Ps a list of things or a path they can follow for a happy outcome. I don't think they care so much what we do, but we need to provide them hope. #leadlap
A5: To avoid power struggles, Keep in mind ā you are the adult. They are the kids. Their brains havenāt even fully developed yet! We are not here to see who will win, we are here to be on the same team! Take a deep breath and remain positive. #LeadLAP
A4 Do meaningful activities all year. Sometimes students have to be taught how to build relationships. Think Ennegram and Harry Potter. Itās going to be greatness. Stay tuned in Aug. Building relationships needs to be active and meaningful. #leadlap
A4 - Relationships matter most and modeling for our kids is key. Shaking hands, eye contact, investing in others, in a genuine and positive way. #leadlap
A4: We have done global school read alouds (Wonder, Ugly, I Am Malala) during advisory this year (all staff participate) on the common themes of empathy, empowerment and hope. A positive side effect has been building a common experience and sense of belonging. #LeadLAP
A5 - Back to this book NV Communication. Observe - tell the S what you observed. Then tell them how you felt. Now I express my need. Finally, I make a request. So far, this is taking the air out angry responses. Been looking for this for a long time. #leadlap
A5. Try very hard to remember everyone is fighting their own battle. Try to be kind rather than right. I donāt always succeed, but those are my gals. #LeadLAP
A5: I seek to understand students' perspectives, asking questions & truly listening. In most cases, letting students have a chance to explain their feelings helps. I also give st time to de-escalate by giving them space, waiting to talk with them until they are calmer. #LeadLAP
A5: Talk with the student one-on-one. Find out what they are interested in. Get to know them. Power struggles happen when there are misunderstandings. Listen, empathize and offer opportunity for expression. After all, they are the student. We model what we get. #leadlap
A5b: And in the event that I mess up (weāre all human) - I apologize to the student. Telling a S that Iām sorry for what I may have said is so powerful & strengthens the relationship. #LeadLAP
Yes! Public humiliation is NEVER a positive experience that encourages a change in unwanted behavior. Private convos can lead to trust building which develops positive outcomes all around. #LeadLAP
A5: To avoid power struggles LISTEN! Sometimes students are trying to tell us exactly what we need to know but we donāt hear them. Weāve got to take the time & effort to give them the chance to communicate effectively #leadlap
And once we are able to control initial responses we have the power to rewire our brains to feel and respond differently. "The Brain that Changes Itself" blew me away. #leadlap
A5B- I have a hard rule that the student will complete the activity. Thatās not an option. However I tak to them and ask questions to see where the hang up is. Thereās always an underlying issue of a student is having a power struggle. #leadlap
#leadlap I do something called a Box Breath. It looks similar to me. I start most mornings with these and I practice smiling. Okay... here's me being honest... I have to practice.
Also understand some students experience public humiliation and we donāt recognize when they do. We tend to make choice about who to humiliate subconsciously - something Iām chewing on #leadLAP
A5: A Ss told me she knows when I'm upset because I sit on my stool, get real quiet, & eat a mint. She's right (& observant)-a moment of inaction allows time to process the correct action #leadlap
Q5: The āTā in CRAFT stands for āTurn it Aroundā & helps us remember to avoid power struggles w/ Ss. No one wins in a power struggle. What strategies do you use to avoid them? #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A5: Listening works the best for me when I feel the need for power or control. Asking the words "Tell Me More" buys me time and helps me center. We teach the Ss this SOLER model from @flipflippen#leadlap#Path2Serendipity
A6. Iāve made lots of mistakes and learned lots from them. I have learned mostly that if you follow your heart and intuition, usually it ends up just fine. Worrying is not a productive strategy. #LEADlap
A5: I have a strict "no arguing with kids or parents" rule - sometimes that means just listening and saying "i hear you" and "that sounds ________" - my strategy is to stay calm and stay rooted in our school vision #LeadLAP
EXACTLY! I can actually feel that happening for me. I was never a big power-struggler, but like most it would pop up from time to time. Now, almost never! #leadlap
A6) Iāve made mistakes daily. Some little, some big. My biggest mistake I made as a Superintendent was I was āhearingā a group of parents and not truly listening to them. I got called out on it at a BOE meeting and it really opened my eyes-truly a learning experience. #LeadLAP
A5: if you build strong relationships with students and focus on solving problems together then power struggles are rare. When they occur I focus on building the relationship - helping Ss work through the issue #LeadLAP
For example- how do you navigate when a student publicly humiliated another? If we avoid humiliating that student, what message does that send to student originally hurt? #leadLAP
A5 The more my colleagues and I work together to give Ss something to own, the more empowered learners we see. They are often so engaged in what theyāre discovering, creating, and preparing to share its hard to even get their attention:) #LeadLAP
A6: I am regularly reminded of two things: the need to communicate effectively, and the need to listen to understand. Nearly every time I find myself in a conflict, it's because I didn't do one, the other, or both. #LeadLAP
A5: I have gone with the āpraise in public; punish in privateā idea when I need to counsel a child...you donāt do it in front of other students...

That was me! Just like Allyson, I did not enjoy school. This is why I am so passionate about making sure my students WANT to come to school and WANT to learn. I understand those kids who donāt. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity#TeachingWithASMILE

A6: Many mistakes are made because of haste and perceptions. Our perceptions become our realities unless you are open your mind to the positive. Basically #presumepositive#LeadLAP
A4b: Never underestimate the importance of teaching Ss how to apologize and how to ACCEPT an apology - even when they are not ready to forgive. And that means being willing to apologize in those moments when we've made a mistake or let our humanity show too vividly. #LeadLAP
Donāt be afraid of mistakes. Build capacity to handle the aftermath of the mistakes we make. Thatās been the best lesson for me #leadLAP donāt focus on intentions, focus on impact
A6: oh my goodness!!!! I am the QUEEN of sticking my foot in my mouth! š¤¦āāļøš¤¦āāļø I am learning to just keep my mouth shut. HA! The struggle is real, yāall. #LeadLAP
A5: We also need to model how we want kids to react in power struggles with other kids. If we fight with them, they will fight with each other. #LeadLAPhttps://t.co/RXOXKVLdaq
A5: In the classroom w Ss, in the school w Ts... if we want great things for those on our team, we must check our ego at the door. I have to remind myself of this when I feel drawn into a power struggle. #LeadLAP
I hate to go but Iām arriving in Newport RI for a pre Motherās Day lunch. Itās been great! Thanks for hosting, @AllysonApsey . Canāt wait to read #Path2Serendipity ! Plz join us next weekend -excited to host a convo about āCaptain Conversationsā #leadlap
A6. Iāve learned that my physical, spiritual, and mental balance must be top priority in order for me to be the best leader I can be. To take care of others, I have to take care of myself. #LeadLAP
A6: I have learned to add space at the end of my lessons for evaluating dishes with teams. I used to pack too much in and missed out on this valuable and powerful reflection time. #leadlap
A6: My mantra for the year ~ Judge less. Love more. ~ came out of the many times I mistakenly have judged a book by its cover. I have to consciously work to give grace, to love unconditionally. #leadlap#Path2Serendipity
A6: Always feel like it's a big mistake if a S disengages because of me and I didn't know I was the reason. Doesn't happen often, but it happens. Need to be aware of Ss who withdraw to see if it is me or something else. Then see if situation can be remedied. #LeadLAP
Avoid power struggles by giving up the desire to try to win every situation. Swallowing your pride and being the bigger person will be more beneficial in the long run. #LeadLAP

A6 - Mistake. Tried to take up a child's note she was writing in class. Ended up making a way bigger drama of it than it needed to be. Took some doing to get the girl's trust again. #leadlap
A6: I was rushing 8th grade through a ceramics project and put all in the kiln too early. The pieces were too wet and most blew up. Ss were upset and it was my fault. Lesson learned...slow down. And start earlier in the year. #LeadLAP
A5: Underestimated Ss interest. As a 4th grade writing T, I started āWriting Cafeā before school and during lunch. On my 1st day, I had way too many students to be productive. I quickly went to āWriting Cafeā reservations. I have never underestimated Ss interest again. #LeadLAP
Q7: Respect is defined as meeting your own needs without interfering with someone else meeting their needs in The #Path2Serendipity. How do you make sure that you are taking care of yourself without stepping on the needs of someone else? #LeadLAP
A6: Iāve learned that you should NEVER assume that someone that āseemsā difficult to speak to, collaborate with, count on is that way because of you. It could be because of past interactions with someone in the same role as you. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity#LoveLiteracyLearning
A6: Biggest mistakes are made when they are done quickly. Take the time to involve stakeholders, think about all possible outcomes and most importanly, is it in the best interests of students. #leadlap
A7: I'm selfish sometimes & need to check myself to make sure I'm considering others' needs. Writing to reflect & hold myself accountable helps me SO much. I write on blog called "Serendipity in Education". Check it out here ==> https://t.co/utQecrZACE#LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
Finding my ācollectiveā or āvillageā where I can be completely real and honest, and they will be honest with me. That keeps me grounded. I need people to tell me Iām wrong. Itās rare. #leadLAP

A6- I thought I had to do things the way everyone else did. It was fake and ineffective. Now Iām myself, for what ever thatās worth. At least Iām being genuine. #LEADlap
A7: By being aware of those around me, re-orbiting the world so it isn't revolving solely around me, giving validation to others, & giving myself the time I need for what I need. #LeadLAP
A6 when I started as a tech coach I pushed my own passion way too much, but it was because of the mistakes I made that I realized the power in helping Ts/admin unleash their own passions & most certainly bring them to school! #LeadLAP
A7: Self-care isn't selfish. At all. Here are some Plan BE ideas that won't infringe on anyone else while you're caring for your own wellBEing. https://t.co/iK0aVX9VSy#leadlap#Path2Serendipity
A5: This can be very hard. It takes time and trust to discover where the Ss' need for power comes from and find other ways to provide it that don't interfere in learning for themselves or others. #LeadLAP
A6: I've made so many mistakes! A lesson I learned last year is to slow down. With the pace in schools, there is the illusion that decisions need to made quickly. This is a misconception. Taking time to make thoughtful decisions, even around discipline, is often helpful. #LeadLAP
A7: I take care of myself by doing three things every day: 1. Laughing hard (even if I have to search up jokes on the internet); 2. Reading a book of choice (even if I have to get up early to do it)
3. Being VERY kind to myself (we all make mistakes, big woop.) #LeadLap
A7: Taking care of ourselves show we respect ourselves & want to give the best to others. I meditate every morning & build in self care activities that are meaningful to me (outside of work commitments). #LeadLAP

A7: It's always about empathy and seeing the big picture. When we can see both sides of a story or an agenda, we have a better chance of earning respect and understanding motives #LeadLaP
A6: I learned to take... my... time... responding. Many times, I blurt out answers without thinking through their effectiveness and potential impact. I teach my students to choose words wisely; I need to practice what I preach. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity
A7 - Start my day early. Reading the Psalms this year (in Esperanto - hey, it lights up my brain). Box breathing. Practice Smiling. 5 - 10 reps of an exercise that makes my heart thump. Pray. #leadlap
A7- taking me time, time to rest and rejuvenate so I have more of me to give... but not at the sacrifice of being with the family also! balance #leadlap#Path2Serendipity
A7) A former BOE president said it best to me: āYou first, us second.ā I had a hard time comprehending that, but then I realized I wasnāt good to anyone if I wasnāt well. Itās now a quote on my desk. #LeadLAP

A6: My worst mistakes as a school leader have been when I rushed to a decision. I have learned to take my time, apologize, reflect on what I could have done better, and move on - knowing that it is all a part of becoming a better person and a stronger leader. #leadlap

From my understanding, SEL provides comfort & healing, and brain science, can empowers them with the ability to change how they feel and respond. #leadlap
A7: Thatās a great question! I just try to think of others first always, how they might feel or react or perceive. Their perception is their truth, so I try to keep that in mind. #LeadLAP
This platform is good practice for that... and it isn't. It expects immediate response. Though I suppose we often have to think on our feet in the non-digital world. #LeadLAP

A6: Any decision I made out of fear has been a mistake. EVERY SINGLE ONE. Living boldly and trusting myself is scary and the most rewarding way to grow. #LeadLAP
A7) Taking care of my needs has been a lot about #truth this year. Seeing that Iām human and itās ok to feel hurt or excited or disappointed, but to talk to a colleague so I can come back and give to my Ss. #LeadLAP#path2serendipity
A6: Making the mistake of not getting all of the information before making a decision & moving forward. Then realizing = Uh-Oh. Take the time to get all of the facts, see the big picture, stick to the vision, then be decisive & supportive. #LeadLAP
A7: I think reflection is key is all facets...but definitely this one. I need to hold myself more accountable through writing as you've suggested @AllysonApsey. Writing helps me remember my reflections & therefore not repeat my mistakes. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity

A7: Blogging has been a big help for me. https://t.co/9xJVR582gU Also, knowing that I can connect with my PLN here is a huge support. Biggest piece is finding time to stay in shape and keep the mind and body strong. I find myself being better for everyone! #leadlap
A6-My mistakes come w/pushing through curriculum or a lesson when I shouldn't. Especially creative endeavors when the Ss need more time. When I give the time-the products are amazing #leadlap

Have heard others talk about "talking to ourselves" in the way we would talk with a friend if he/she made a mistake. Great advice!! Be kind to ourselves! #Path2Serendipity#LeadLAP
A7: I chose to be a wife and mother. I chose to be a teacher too. Wife and mom are way more important! I step away from my job when I am at home so I can focus on family. #LeadLAP
A7: @alienearbud taught me the Miracle Morning (SAVERS) & it is such an awesome combo of those important self-care things I can do before the craziness of the day rolls in. #BLBS#LeadLAP
#LeadLAP Without a doubt!! Seemingly closed-minded folks are often actually afraid of the unknown. This is where working alongside of someone trying something new can be of such benefit.
A7 although I whole heartedly believe in running to school every day Iāve learned that running through school deserves some attention-working on slowing down so that I have enough fuel for colleagues, Ss, & very importantly, my family. #LeadLAP
Thanks @AllysonApsey for a great #leadlap chat! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Thanks for all you do for your own children and the ones in your classrooms!
A7: Practice. I learned (am still learning) through teeter-tottering my experiences with the decisions I know to be best at the time. Weighing out the consequences of my decisions is the most helpful way I know to be aware of the impact of my choices. #LeadLAP#Path2Serendipity

Yes! As Admin there is pressure to feel like you have all the answers. I have to remind myself that it is okay to say āLet me check on thatā and, when it comes to problems, helping others find their own solutions (solving for others takes away their power) #LeadLAP
A6: I've made so many mistakes! A lesson I learned last year is to slow down. With the pace in schools, there is the illusion that decisions need to made quickly. This is a misconception. Taking time to make thoughtful decisions, even around discipline, is often helpful. #LeadLAP
A6: I am regularly reminded of two things: the need to communicate effectively, and the need to listen to understand. Nearly every time I find myself in a conflict, it's because I didn't do one, the other, or both. #LeadLAP
Closing reflections: I'm inspired to get #Path2Serendipity and read and then share it at poolside PD this summer. June 8th sounds like a fantastic Friday for that! Thank you @AllysonApsey! #leadlap
