Welcome! #ETCoaches Today we are going to be chatting about Personalizing PD; Finding what works for your district or school. It is 8 EST and time to begin. Please take a minute to introduce yourself. Where are you from and what do you do?
Hello! So glad you could join. I have worked as an ET facilitator and coach for many years at both the school and district level in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools. #ETCoaches
A1: #etcoaches Personalized PD allows educators the opportunity to explore and become experts in their areas of interest. This causes a ripple effect of coaching opportunities and coaches to help coach b/c no person's PD is exactly the same. What my colleague and I know varies.
A1. I think the relationships established may be on a deeper level, as coaches may get to know the teachers and their learning styles better. Teachers would also feel more valued, as learning would be personalized. #ETCoaches
A1. Our teachers are demanding choice and to have a say in their learning. This helps them to connect to others when they find other teachers who share the same struggles and successes with tech. #ETCoaches
A1. Choice makes the learning time more meaningful. Teachers in my district are more like to see the time as well spent and connect with other educators. #ETCoaches
#ETCoaches Yes! Just like our students, teachers also respond best to choice and options. Technology has opened the door for PD via Twitter, webinars, and more.
A2: It's a mixture. We usually poll teachers about the PD they need, and how they like the PD delivered. Then try to differentiate. Excited to learn more from others though! #ETCoaches
A2. Right now the PD topics are coming from the district level for the most part. I'm hoping that as we go along our teachers will start realizing that all they have to do is ask! #ETCoaches
A2) #etcoaches PD topics are determined by admin in my district, however Ts do get some choice in selecting which training on the menu they want to attend once a year. I feel we need to offer more of this.
A2: Usually district, but coaches helped push for change. Had EdCamp-ish model last year. Ts presented on favorite tools & strategies; Ts could choose where to go. Smashing Success, doing it again in a couple weeks. #etcoaches
That sounds like a great model Kristin! Our district has had challenges in getting some teachers to respond to polls in the past and I'm hoping that will change! #ETCoaches
A7 sorry jumping in late! Teresa Engler tech coach from PA the priority in our school is for the teachers to be as prepared and supported as they can to be Innovative in the classroom in order to help students reach their learning goals #etcoaches
A3: This always reminds me of one Instructional Design class during my Masters. Designers combine assessment data along with reflection surveys to determine what works. Ts may love a certain type of PD, but that doesn't mean it is effective. #ETCoaches
#etcoaches Our regional coaches group uses it after our meetings. Even us coaches like to play with the stickers as we share our ideas and reflections.
A4 @participate offers good suggestions for PD I also think a lot of teachers are interested in badges so they look for the online trainings to become certified in particular Tech tools @GoogleForEdu for Google level 1 and level 2 certifications #ETCoaches
A4 Ts in my district have enjoyed having a variety of options to choose from, especially on-site EdCamp-type PD. We also use @Schoology for online, self-paced PD options. #ETCoaches
A4 - We're slowly evolving as a district - not quite to a "best for our school" just yet. I love podcasts & Twitter chats - trying to encourage others to get on board with these and others #ETCoaches
A5: This is a work in progress. I am interested in learning more about the @participate PD....especially Bob Dillon's Learning Spaces course. #ETcoaches
A4. We have actually started to allow webinars (from select places) to count as PD credit. @CommonSenseEd, edweb, @SFLOK2Ask, and a few others. This way teachers can choose their own PD and submit the cert when completed. #ETCoaches

In our new plan - there are 3 levels of mastery - bronze - T knows it; Silver T uses it with Ss; Gold T shares and collaborates w/ other Ts and/or Global Classrooms. No criteria for the "training" - just evidence of implementation #ETCoaches

A6. My dept introduced it this year with our "Googopoly" program. We are currently working on pathways for Admin and New T's to add next year. #ETCoaches
We offer one at @TeachersFirst each summer (and sometimes the Fall). I know some Ts have used the certificates of completion as credit for PD (we use Edmodo and have webinars and weekly assignments). We also offer one through the PLN, as a slow chat on Twitter. #ETCoaches
Q6 we tried badging and our teachers love it! Our system is not sophisticated but we award badges to teachers who use Tech tools effectively with students #etcoaches
A6. We are in the beginning phases of badging for PD. We started with simply @MicrosoftEDU and @Schoology (since both already offer badging). Teachers seem to like the badging options. #ETCoaches

A7. Google, New Teacher, Admin, Sheltered Instruction (we believe in starting small and growing from experience) Also working on Dig Cit Badging program for Ts and Ss #ETCoaches
A7. We currently offer a few pathways that we have mapped out. 1:1 Teacher, and Technology Integration. I'm hoping to map out some pathways and badges aligned to the ISTE standards this summer. #ETCoaches
Well, the hour has flown by! I have completely enjoyed learning from everyone. I will be at ISTE this summer helping with one the the playgrounds for implementing the ISTE standards on 6/26. I hope to see some of you at ISTE and one the next #ETCoaches chat!
