Hello everyone! I’m Leticia Skae—your guest moderator tonight— and I’m a literacy coach in Nashville. I love advocating for Ss, Ts and literacy. My 2018 school year has been mostly filled with snow days #pln365
Addison from Franklin, TN. High school social studies teacher. 2018 has been full of sickness (Influenza A and B, Stomach Flu, and Bronchitis). Besides that 2018 has been FANTASTIC! :) #pln365
All of you on the East Coast, I send my WARMEST regards. I would never survive. I literally dress like I live THERE if it drops below 60 degrees! #pln365
A1: EF means not only being balanced and capable of controlling and understanding your own emotions, but being able to process and translate the actions/emotions of others. Like physical fitness, emotional fitness requires regular strength and conditioning to stay strong. #pln365
A1: Emotional fitness is the fitness I need to take care of myself & improve my relationships. It works hand-in-hand with mental and physical fitness as well. #pln365
A1: I teach in a high poverty area with a lot of transitory students. MANY of my Ss have experienced severe trauma. I want them to have the tools and vocabulary to deal with their situations. #pln365
A1: emotional fitness is knowing that emotion is about pace not race. It’s a marathon not a sprint and being first at the mile mark means nothing. #pln365
A1: EF means being aware of your feelings and wellness so that you can make appropriate decisions necessary for your self-care. It's also a commitment to yourself that must not be ignored. #pln365
A1: Emotional fitness is the ability to stay positive or at least emotionally sound. It’s being able to avoid negative thoughts. Like physical fitness, it’s endurance. However, privileges do affect a person’s emotional fitness. What works for one may not work for another #pln365
A2: I cannot be an effective educator or leader without emotional fitness. We all know of examples of good people who struggled with EF and it made all those around them suffer. For students, can be the difference between meeting and never meeting their potential. #pln365
A2 we are pulled in so many directions in personal & professional life we must b able to center & ground ourselves to keep positive relationships and mindsets #pln365
A1: EF means being aware of your feelings and wellness so that you can make appropriate decisions necessary for your self-care. It's also a commitment to yourself that must not be ignored. #pln365
A2: In order to meet the vast challenges that we face each day we must be emotionally fit. We can't take care of each other if we aren't in a good place ourselves. #pln365
A2: EF is important because when we are empty, we have nothing to give. When I feel myself checking out, impatient, not crying at sentiment things (that always make me cry), I know that I need to re-group. #pln365
A2: emotional fitness is important because you’re going to experience the entire gauntlet of emotions each day as an educator. You have to be prepared to roll with the good, shed the bad and help others do the same along the way. #pln365
A1: We should also acknowledge a level of privilege in our language and not use words that carry a lot of stigma against mental illness. We can say “Avoid getting overwhelmed” instead of “Avoid going crazy.” #pln365
A2. We need to make sure our emotions are not driving our leadership. leaders without Emotional Fitness struggle to meet the needs of their people. #pln365
A2: If I cannot care for myself, I cannot be the best teacher I can be, the one my students need me to be. We do physically and emotionally taxing work. We have to take care of ourselves. #pln365
A2: Emotional fitness is important for self-care & for nurturing relationships. Emotional fitness helps me stay fit in all other aspects of my life. #pln365
A2: I have been stressed the last two days, so I had to just be silly today with my students. I told my Ss that I was stressed, so I would be singing a lot to make myself feel better. They thought it was hyterical to get directions in my "best Opera voice". #pln365
A1 Emotional fitness to me means focusing on one’s own emotional needs as well as being aware of others, connected to relationships and empathy...constantly a work in progress. #pln365
Q3: My physical fitness improves mental & emotional fitness. Endorphins! But also taking care of my emotional state gives me the motivation to stay physically fit. #pln365
I have to give a #pln365 shoutout to @RyanBJackson1@daviswelcome and @AustinELA8 they are my fitness accountability partners. Ryan has kept me motivated and I can’t wait to share some of the progress I have made and plan next steps.
A3: Emotional fitness directly impacts physical fitness. When we feel out of control, or struggling emotionally, it becomes harder and harder to put the energy towards physical fitness. While you can do one without the other, both can impact success or failure. #pln365
A3: When people are stressed, it affects their physical fitness, as well. Whe I am stressed, I get a headache and stomach ache and sometimes even a migraine... #pln365
A2 Emotional fitness is important because emotions affect every part of our life...we need to be in our best “emotional shape” to be able to deal with life’s challenges #pln365
A3 Emotional fitness and physical fitness go together because physical fitness gives you the strength and ability to become emotionally fit. If we are not physically fit it's going to be very difficult to stay emotionally fit. You can't have 1 w/o the other #pln365
A2: Too much of one thing in your life can add stress (typically negative). Having down-time, relaxing with family, reading a book, etc. Do something that restores you. #pln365

A3: Knowing which emotions are temporary and worth working through is important... the struggle now is worth it for the perseverance later. “The game is 80% mental and 20% physical.” #pln365
A3) My father always tells me that if the house is weak from lack of rest, and has not been maintained with the correct nutrients the mind will follow. #pln365
Hey, all! Just ended a great chat with #5thchat. Linda, AP from Winchester, VA. 2018 is off to an incredible start , & I’m optimistic this will continue. 👊🏼 #pln365
Physical fitness can build emotional strength for sure, but there are other factors that play into emotional fitness. I know several people with strong bodies who still suffer emotionally. #pln365

Q4: I disconnect from work when I come home at least 4 of 5 days of work week, schedule date nights, read to my 3 yr old, read for pleasure, write poetry, find time for myself, etc. #pln365
A3: I already don't want to exercise, but if I'm not in a good mood, or had a rough day, physical exercise is probably the last thing I want to do. #pln365
A4: Take time for yourself. Whether building in time into your schedule to meditate, sing, breath, do something to refocus and center yourself. Also consider the longer game. Read, learn, push yourself to see the world definitely and allow yourself grow emotionally. #pln365
A4: Laughter, music, and forcing my familiy to listen to all my funny and heartbreaking stories from the day. My relationships with other people fuel me. #pln365
A4: When I get home from work, I do about half and hour of something totally mindless (like play SongPop) before I fix dinner. Then I get on these wonderful Twitter chats and am re-engerized. Thank you! #pln365
A4 To stay emotionally fit, I read, spend time with people I enjoy and care about and talk to those I trust when I’m struggling with something. Also doing some great learning with @rulerapproach and @YaleEmotion which is helping me be more in tune with my emotions #pln365
A4 I read and/or listen to my favorite inspirational authors like Tony Robbins. I love reading in general or playing cards with my family. Just petting my dog works wonders to. #pln365
A4 I block out time for reflection & sharing these help me to refocus & work toward my goals. On the best days I do this at the gym or on a run #pln365
A3: the synergy of mind, body & spirit propels us towards self-actualization, allowing us to be the very best versions of ourselves for the greater good! #pln365
Absolutely. People with chemcial imbalances are not just dramatic and lacking coping skills. They are actually hurting and need empathy instead of judgment. #pln365
