#Edtechchat focuses on Education Technology. Co-founder Tom Murray says #edtechchat "connects us professionally with inspiring educators from all over the world, all of who encourage us to be better every day for the children and families we serve.”
Hello everyone! I am an undergraduate student at Kent State University majoring in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Mild/Moderate Special Education. #edtechchat
A1: nope, not sure why but now I have some ideas rolling around in my head...parents know of the "toys" that Ts use to communicate with them....I did a few lunch and learns with parents around #socialmedia to help them understand the benefits... #edtechchat
A1 For the past few years I have been asked to provide a list of books, gadgets, toys, and games that promote #STEAM. I am in the process of doing this year's. The piece gets pushed out in the weekly for the entire school community. #edtechchat
As an educator with a degree in filmmaking, I love these types of programs! It's also a great way to provide multiple ways for students to demonstrate their knowledge beyond the written exam.
#edchat#spedchat#ellchat#edtechchat
A1: I am finishing my list tonight, and I will share once we have it finalized. We have the theme and much of the content, just looking for those last few fun items! #edtechchat
A1: Since I am not a teacher (yet)...I do not provide a lists to parents. However, that is something I will keep in mind when I have my own classroom some day! #edtechchat
The answer should be get your kid a domain and a website. Help them curate who they are in all there spaces online and off. Do you really want children growing up in the cesspool of @facebook, chasing envy on @instagram#edtechchat (https://t.co/wUqOIjafcB)
This is a great way to share things with them at this time of year. It can be done for tech or for charitable causes that people are looking to give to! #edtechchat
Something to keep in mind: I used to send home the December @Scholastic Book Club orders in sealed envelopes and offered to keep holiday gifts hidden until the last day before break. Parents were appreciative! I'd wrap the order in brown paper bags. #edtechchat
The first year that is great, then you need to help give them other tools to continue to develop the space. And resources for other outside interests as well. #edtechchat
I agree that's why i like a domain and shared hosting..you get the freedom of me rather than the constriction of one platform for the masses. Though interested to watch where @glitch takes custom domains. #edtechchat (https://t.co/IKEdSUVCF1)
A1: We don't give tech tool or gadget recommendations, only apps and websites. However, I love this idea and will be looking at your recommendations! #edtechchat
I teach adults but like a lot of parents my house has enough stuff. I might buy books or software but other than that we’re spending $ on experiences, like an aquarium membership #edtechchat
A2 User-friendly, grows with the user, affordable, doesn't violate child-safety laws - both physically and digitally, right @s_bearden ? :) #edtechchat
A2 great question! Has to be the same as for other educational toys, especially for younger kids. Does it promote imaginative play that also teaches? Think play kitchen. #EdTechChat
A2: Age appropriate, fun, engaging (maybe educational?) The list should have options in different price ranges to try and include all families. #edtechchat
Osmo is robot but relies on local environment for programming. I like some of the subscription kits that have resources online but send you the tools to make it happen! #edtechchat
A2 A good #edtech toy does not always have to plug in or run on batteries. It sparks creative thinking, promotes problem solving, and moves children towards making rather than mindlessly doing. #edtechchat
Definitely a price range helps. Love my Kano Harry Potter wand for learning to code, but the price of $100 is a little steep for some families. #edtechchat
One of my favorite gifts I have given is an engineers notebook for recording inventions and ideas. Still have a little room in it even a year later. Maybe time for a new one! :) #edtechchat
A2: Affordable, seeing as I teach at a Title 1 school. Durable. Family friendly (encourages family involvement). Encourages their creativity and learning. #edtechchat
A2 You want toys that are educational, challenging and something users will learn a lot about. Yes, I have a Toys page https://t.co/AG2zutNnjr#edtechchat
Somewhat. They are working on opening it up so you could use it for other things. Personally, I want to use it during trainings. "The magic of Sway!" and wave my wand. LOL Some things are overly guided and some not enough, but it has potential! #edtechchat Feel free to DM me w/?s

I used to have a learning chess set, which was nice wood with the movement of the pieces on each piece. I can't find a comparable one anymore, they are all plastic! #edtechchat

There's no app for... "Many apps, independent of how long or often students use them, have no relationship to learning outcomes. And the majority of purchased licenses don’t get used." https://t.co/NDRpczXYut#edtechchat via @EdSurge
Side story- We have a chess set in one of Librarys and a few of the pieces were lost or stolen. It was a great proof-of-concept project for the 3D printer. I was able to print some replacement pieces and show the Ss (and Ts) a project. #edtechchat
A4 A few years ago we tried KiwiCrate and my two kids really liked it. We also used BrainChase two summers ago when I was laid up with ankle surgery. Choosing the three courses was a win for them. #edtechchat
My 3rd year teaching Middle School & Elementary every day-2 diff schools, has taken its toll on my keeping up in the #edtechchat world. Time to re-engage/re-energize!
three days ago I taught my son and a friend who were working on a social studies project about gifs...now this is the slideshow making the rounds through middle school: https://t.co/4ZgUeCYH2V#edtechchat gifs the gift that keeps giving (https://t.co/ECdpCS6aAV)
I agree for certain services and products, but to get a kit every month with real materials and resources has a cost, and if they are made well I am willing to support. time to research which of these services are still home grown and owned. I know @adafruit is. #edtechchat
A5: The Swiss Army knife equivalent STEM tool. I dont even know what that means, but I want everyone to pull one out of their pocket in class and start working on their project. #edtechchat
They are on their school GAFE accounts guess GIPHY ain't blocked. I know the password and shared with myself, let it be known I am watching...though dropped bomb today revision history shows me some fooling around during school. #edtechchat (https://t.co/4Q5L2WYijC)
A5 @Surface Gos that also run #iOS apps! Some students with autism use @proloquo2go, but it is only on iPads. I want the #accessibility and the access to a machine ready for the global market for our students. #edtechchat
An interesting experiment would be to say random things to while Alexa is listen to see if you can change what Amazon will sell or show you. #Edtechchat
We have Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Cortana on Invoke at home. #Cortana is the smartest of the 3. #edtechchat (Here's my blog comparison, if interested: https://t.co/Gumoaa0yvs)
A6 HANDS DOWN #ImmersiveReader with the Microsoft Translator tools a close 2nd. It has helped Ss with reading, proofreading, comprehension and is free for EVERYONE to use! I use it for proofreading my writing or making it easier to read when my glasses aren't nearby. #edtechchat
A6: Thankful for collaboration tools...tools that give Ss and Ts the ability to participate, grow, and succeed in ways that didnt exist before. #edtechchat
I think we are really close from wrestling the web back from the jaws of social media companies that gnaw at our data rand gouge on our identities. I am thankful for a vision of a better tomorrow. #edtechchat#IndieWeb (https://t.co/GeJZJWuHCv)
Let’s incorporate more Scratch and coding activities into those content areas! What are your favorite ways to add coding into your day? #code#cvilleteach#edtechchat#edtech
A6- Brightlinks projectors and white boards that I can hook up to my laptop and pull up a myriad of videos, and Google Suite for Education to model for my students. #WeAreDPS#Ptownpride#Edtechchat
