A1: Ashley Flatebo-working in partnership with my tech coach in the district I was an instructional coach in to support teachers helped to "up the game" when delivering content #ETcoaches
A1: My name is Debbie. A time that I had a coach that was essential to my growth was last year when @allisonchoak and @tchrwithatitle encouraged and supported me on my quest to become #FCPSsbts#ETCoaches
#ETCoaches Hi Everyone! I am Autumn Zaminski. My best coach was my teacher mentor. She always sat beside me and helped along the way. @MrsSWadsworth cheered me on but always gave me honest feedback!
A1 I’m Alanna from Virginia. The best coaches I’ve had have been peers who have been able to inspire me and model something in capacity that is accessible. #ETCoaches
A1. Matt McCullough Director of Innovation in Teaching and Learning in Michigan. I am a small piece of all my former bosses. I take the good and bad and learn from their modeling and try to make myself a better coach/leader! #ETCoaches
A1: Amanda from PA. My best coach was/is my Mom. She was an educator for the longest time and is now my biggest cheerleader as I pursue new directions in my career. #ETCoaches
I am currently an Instructional Technology Consultant for Central Rivers AEA in Iowa working on tech integration with multiple schools at all grade levels. Partnership described occured in a MS. #ETCoaches
A1: Hi, I’m Tim also from Virginia. @MsDushokMath and I partner as coaches. The best coaches I’ve worked with see the relationship as critical and truly develop a partnership. #ETCoaches
A1: #ETCoaches Megan here from Lexington, KY! My second year of teaching I made a friend who became my coach. She taught for 20 years at that point & coached me through some tough times in the classroom & taught me how to take care of myself as an educator! #iTeachDigital
A1: I'm a Teacher on Special Assignment Tech Coach and benefited from many "coaches" in my career so far, including a wonderful mentor as a first-year teacher at @WestIrondequoit (Ms. McFee) to colleagues - we coach each other (Ms. Quintero) and admins (@kfinter) #ETCoaches
A1 Dan, teacher and instructional coach from Southern NJ. I was coached by @bkulak11 to improve my filler words and eye contact when speaking - firm, positive and honest feedback was key to my eventual improvement! #ETCoaches
A1: I’m Holli and I am an Instructional Technology Coach from Tallahassee,FL. My high school softball coach has been essential to my success. Because of her, I have more confidence in my abilities, perseverance to get through tough situations, and a strong work ethic.#ETCoaches
A2: As a new teacher, I didn't have a lot of coaching- I was assigned mentors but they weren't very helpful. That made it hard for me early in my career. Being a parent helped me as a teacher the most #ETCoaches
A2: The support from my mentor as a new teacher was instrumental to my success. They took time to work through the curriculum with me and brainstorm ideas for student success #ETCoaches
A2: As a new teacher very little coaching was provided for me. I felt lost and learned how to do things my way. I hope to provide a better experience for our preservice Ts in our Edu Dept. #ETCoaches
A2. Wow - new teacher, that was a couple of years ago...lol. I was a coach, so I had lots of mentors that modeled for me. In science, I had a generous partner that shared everything she had and did. I was able to develop my craft before my lesson resources #ETCoaches
The addition of instructional coaches in Iowa was a game changer for new teachers. They had a person to rely on for support while not being evaluative. It is a great way to build capacity in a building! #ETCoaches
A1 Emily from Gettysburg, PA! First year as an Instructional Coach, and my partner in education @autumn_zam is definitely essential to my success! #wt#ETCoaches
A2 I was lucky enough to be the 'other' 8th-grade teacher of my subject and without intentionally being given the formal job of coaching my colleague made me better by setting the bar high for what SS instruction looked like at our school! #coachbynature#ETCoaches
A2: #ETCoaches unfortunately the only coaching I had was from my team #teacher. I had a principal that didn't quite coach me through the process... #firstyearteacher
A2: I had very little to no coaching provided for me. All I had was a book by Harry Wong. I’ve had to do a lot of finding my own way and figuring things out for myself. I was extremely grateful when Twitter came along and I created my PLN. #ETCoaches
A2. Coaching was not optional as a new teacher. One was assigned to me, but it didn’t work very well. In my experience, coaching that works is coaching BY CHOICE. #ETCoaches
A2: Our district Teacher Learning Center provides a great PD program, peer mentoring, and additional support (like me - Instructional Technology Coach) for first-year teachers. All helpful in their own ways. #ETCoaches
A2: At the time, it was not considered coaching. I had an exceptional mentor who really made me reflect on lessons regularly. He was truly a master educator and understood the need to refine our practice through that reflection piece. #ETCoaches
Proposals for the #ETCoaches Playground at #ISTE19 are now open and will close February 28. The Playground is scheduled for 9:30am - 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 25th, and our theme will be "Edtech Coaches: Helping Teachers Grow". Submit your proposal at https://t.co/Nn51QCAWgs
A2: Wasn't giving a lot coaching as a new teacher, but credit to my prep from @Lisa_brewer12 & @MSUCollegeofEd I was often complimented on my readiness. Though an effective coaching model would have been greatly appreciated to further my development & skills right away #ETCoaches
A3. The most effective strategy for both is building relationships! Trust is the cornerstone for anyone making a change and learning something new, which is he definition a risk-taking venture. #ETCoaches
A3: This is an easy one! Building relationships is key. Whether we work with kids or adults, everyone likes to work with someone who values them as a person and what they can contribute to the conversation. #ETCoaches
This is often the truth for many young educators. My hope is that through this group and our voices we can push to make sure all teachers have that support! #ETCoaches
A2: very little formal coaching when I started teaching. I had a great supervisor who helped me but that was about it. I think today there is even more on a new teachers plate and that we do a better job through orientations and mentoring to help them. #ETCoaches
A2: I didn't get a coach at my first job as a teacher...10 years later when I changed districts I did. It was funny because I was hired as a literacy coach and my coach wondered why she had been assigned to me #etcoaches
A3: My most effective tool then is the same as it is now, flexibility! I know its not a digital tool, but those tools change and I have learned to be nimble in moving from one tool to another to best fit the Teacher I'm supporting and the situation at hand. #ETCoaches
A3: Regardless of teaching kids or adults it all has to start with relationships. That’s time consuming for sure but the key to an effective partnership. #ETCoaches
My most effective tool was that my Ss knew I cared about them as a person when I was in the classroom. I am still new at being a coach but I hope those I work know the same thing. “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care” T. Roosevelt #ETCoaches
A3: #ETCoaches Both require massive amounts of rapport. Building relationships with any student, child or adult, is key to their success. Showing them that you truly care is the #1 tool in my toolbox!
A3: Readily available resources I could access on my own time to advance my practice. Now as a coach I try to curate or create those resources & provide in person follow-up to seal the deal in implementation & troubleshooting! #ETCoaches
A3: My most effective tool as a teacher was my connection with students, which allowed me to get them to go beyond the limits they thought existed now. As an ed leader now, my most effective tool continues to be the talents of those around me. #ETCoaches
A3: My most effective tool as a teacher was a device with Internet and now, as a coach, it’s pretty much the same. I’m a solo silo at my school, so being able to connect with others like me is imperative. #PLN#ETCoaches
A3: My most effective tool as a classroom teacher, at least in the past few years, was having a learning management system (@Schoology to be specific). As a coach, it still is valuable as we develop PD, organize meetings, and provide other training opportunities. #ETCoaches
A3 My best tool is enthusiasm for the people and topics I'm dealing with. This was effective as a teacher and now as a coach as if you don't care about what you're teaching why should anyone else? #ETCoaches
A3b: Reading the other responses in this #TwitterChat, I agree with the value of collaboration, relationships, trust, respect, empathy, and making connections. However, I don't exactly see them as "tools" but rather essential to great teaching. #ETCoaches
A4. At our school, @FCPS_Signorelli and I use @jimknight99’s The Impact Cycle as our model. We get a clear view of reality and set student-focused goals based on data. #ETCoaches
A4: @MsDushokMath and I have modified some of the work from @jimknight99 to work with our teachers. The teachers do most of the talking as we provide probing and guiding questions to dive into what practice will best impact student achievement. #ETCoaches
A4: Thanks to @autumn_zam & @KressTech4 our Ts utilized targeted goal setting to create a common theme & focus between all four domains. Our faculty used a template to work through creating the overarching focus and goals that aligned with this area of growth #ETCoaches
A4: We created a building vision as a faculty. Then each teacher created targeted goals form that vision. Those goals have been a strong building block for coaching in our building. I was amazed by the teachers goals and passions. #ETCoaches
A4: @MsDushokMath and I have modified some of the work from @jimknight99 to work with our teachers. The teachers do most of the talking as we provide probing and guiding questions to dive into what practice will best impact student achievement. #ETCoaches
A4: Goal setting for teachers at our district is developed through personal reflection and refining with an administrator or curriculum supervisor aware of the teacher's interests. #ETCoaches
A4: A lot of schools within our agency utilize Student Centered Coaching by @SweeneyDiane where decisions are data driven. It's about establishing where you and your students are and pushing to the next level #ETcoaches
If you are enjoying our monthly #ETCoaches Twitter Chat, join us for our PLN book study that is taking place through Twitter. There is still time to register. https://t.co/wC1v5yEI4d
A4 Currently Reading "Atomic Habits" by @JamesClear Using a lot of the ideas he shares to refine the goal setting (& achieving) process for Ts and Ss #ETCoaches
A4: Teachers are required to complete a Professional Growth Plan at the beginning of the school year. This plan has 2-3 goals to focus on throughout the year. It's based on teacher and administrator input. #ETCoaches
A4: Alabama has the formal goal setting as part of teacher evaluation, which is about as effective as you are thinking right now, but the real goals are set in a coaching meeting when the T says,"I have to figure out how to help THIS kid!" #ETCoaches
A5. The best method we found to enroll teachers is to have a question at the end of a PD exit ticket: “Would you like a coach’s support to do the next steps? Yes and my name is ___ or No, not at this time.” First time, 1/3 of staff said YES! 👍🏻 #ETCoaches
A5: To get teachers enrolled, small conversations help. Meet them where they are in their instructional practice and make them feel safe working with you. If they know you are there to learn with them and not evaluate them, you will have greater success. #ETCoaches
A5 Usually be T request. Also, using the PBL model of identify problems, then offering possible solutions, then choosing a solution to work towards #ETCoaches
A5: Usually it's through a casual conversation with the teacher. I have a Tech Coach reservation calendar, as well, that teachers can sign up for a time to meet with them. #ETCoaches
A5 We get ideas from chatting or someone else hearing something we have done. We book a planning session. There the T drives the conversation and I support in whatever way they need me. #ETCoaches
A5: Launching coaching sessions comes in a variety of ways-whether it was a request, through a data team, content team, or PLC, or simply as part of a new initiative #ETCoaches
A4: Where I work with many schools across the US, goal setting looks different for each place. However, we always start with one thing: when they look at their students in the middle of instruction, what do they want to see? #engaged#empowered#ETCoaches
A5: Currently, I am a "Coach of Coaches" so my tribe usually can recognize when they need to come to me (or other coaches) for the mutual support that we thrive on. #ETCoaches
A5: #ETCoaches I always ask if they have any great stories, questions, concerns, to share beforehand. If I'm working with an individual teacher after a lesson, it's always, "tell me about it." I want THEIR feedback first! I want to hear what THEY thought went well/didn't.
A5: We have experimented with a variety of methods to provide coaching opportunities - teachers can request to meet 1-on-1 to brainstorm or co-plan a lesson, after school PD sessions, "lunch and learn" sessions, and department, building, team meetings, etc. #ETCoaches
I do my best to be a "walking Tech Coach". I like to be present and visible to the teachers. I drum up the most "business" by teachers catching me as I walk into their classrooms or throughout the hallways. #ETCoaches
A5: As the Instructional Technologist for the college, the library hosts “Lunch and Learns” over various topics that the faculty express interest in through the technology committee. #ETCoaches
A5: I have seen #OneNote make science grading more efficient. By having Ss use OneNote for their reflective journaling lab books, it cut one T's grading time from 10 hours to 2. No more carting boxes of books or flipping pages. #ETcoaches

A6. We do it all, depending on teachers’ preferences. We spend A LOT of time understanding exactly what teachers want first, and then work collaboratively to help them realize their visions. #ETCoaches
A6: Again, I believe it is up to the teacher and the needs of the classroom as well as comfort level. Modeling, co-teaching, planning, observing, data collection are all ways to build capacity and ways to collaborate through a coaching cycle. #ETCoaches
A5: Finding the right coaches is key. Passion, knowledge, and drive provided the foundation for coaches to be effective. Including coaches as part of the PL process/plan was critical for us. #ETCoaches
Yes our EduDept does this with the preservice Ts multiple times through their courses. It works great when they can see themselves and critique what they did and then get feedback from their instructors. #ETCoaches
A6: Our coaches present as part of PL, they meet with departments, collaborate with individuals for planning purposes, and co-teach to assist with implementation and to provide immediate support. #ETCoaches
A6: Ultimately, I hope to have a happy mix of all 3 - modeling, co-teaching, and supporting. I personally love to brainstorm with teachers 1-on-1 to utilize technology to accomplish something that was unthinkable before (and that much more powerful for learning). #ETCoaches
A4: Goal setting mainly focuses around our state mandated teacher eval system which revolves around SLOs, but some updates to the teaching standards included in the rubric have included more tech integration elements we hope to home in on w/ Ts and Admins #ETCoaches
A7. Adult learners can think back over past practice, learn from whatever happened, and use the data to make adjustments. Most of the time, they just need the dedicated time and space to do it, and a thoughtful partner with whom to share. #ETCoaches
A7: @MsDushokMath and I use video and individualized summary sheets with teachers to help guide their “look fors” based on what goal they set. This helps us to truly see what is happening in the classroom and focus our discussion on what our next steps are. #ETCoaches
A7: Reflection is the most important part of the coaching process-it helps with goal setting and to know where to go next. Must be intentional in doing this as time can be a barrier in the day of a teacher! #ETCoaches
A7. I tend to "over plan", so it is important for me to use timers, etc. to manage the time and ensure this practice occurs. You can't decorate until the paint dries. #ETCoaches
A7 Reflection is an integral part of the coaching cycle. I really enjoy getting the feedback as a coach and having the opportunity to celebrate our teachers! #ETCoaches#CVSDR2R
A7: LOL - This usually happens when I'm driving or washing the dishes. Reflection is essential as a life long learner and someone dedicated to continuous improvement (and honestly, I don't know how to turn it off anyway!) #ETCoaches
A7: My desire is that it becomes part of our process moving forward as a means of feedback for our coaches and progress monitoring for our teachers and their growth. Tools like @Flipgrid@Apple Clips could be great options. #ETCoaches
A5: I try and meet the Ts where they are whether that be attending grade-level/dept. meetings, attending all staff meetings or providing drop-in or after school sessions to provide support in areas of need. No one strategy is perfect so I try and spread the love! ❤️ #ETCoaches
A7: I take a day to reflect on a coaching session/lesson. Then I either circle back around to the teacher through an email, schedule a follow-up conversation, or drop-in for a chat. I like to give them time to reflect and then talk about what each of us have pondered. #ETCoaches
A7: There are lots of ways to reflect after a #lesson. Voice note, sticky note, journal entry at lunch/planning (reviewing all lessons from that time). We learn best through #reflection. We apply knowledge easier when we are given time to #reflect on the experience. #ETCoaches
