Join us for our district's monthly twitter chat focusing on "Integrating the Arts" on February 1st from 7-8 pm. Come and chat about how to integrate music, art, and other specialized areas into your classroom to build learning across the content areas!
A1. Ss are the ones talking...Ss are the ones researching...Ss are the ones proving...Ss are the ones asking ?s...Ss are making choices...Ss OWN the learning! #CCSEdChat
A2: Embrace it! It may seem scary but if you put the materials there & let the students take ownership it not only better drives their learning but engagement. It helps w classroom behavior/culture. When students feel empowered w choice their results might surprise you #CCSEdChat
I think the classroom needs to be a diversified environment for both student and teacher so that the maximum yield of learning can take place. I believe with this generation of student, guidance must be offered, they come with such open minds that can be beneficial. #CCSEdChat
A3 By allowing them some discernment and decision-making in their learning. By incorporating reflections and self-evaluation. Ss need the chance to choose how to best express their learning. #ccsedchat
A3-My favorite way is by having a chat with my Ss about how they want to proceed with a topic. They came up with so many interesting ideas and would run with them! #CCSEdChat
I think that student voice is a good thing when directed properly. As I stated before, they have such creative minds that can lend itself to the learning process. I like groups and small groups where they can let their creative juices flow so to speak. #CCSEdChat
In a other district we implemented a Genius Hour once a week on the day we did not have resource. Students had full control to research any topics and create. They did research on cheetahs and volcanoes. Created them and I supplied materials #CCSEdChat
A5. Ss creating different types of products to demonstrate THEIR understanding of the standards. Again - Ss doing; Ss communicating; Ss asking...#CCSEdChat
A4 As a teacher, I have to solicit and embrace ideas from the learners. I have to be open to giving learners opportunities to demonstrate their understanding in ways that may be different from what I may have planned. #CCSEdChat
Q5- Acting, demonstrations, Kagan structures.. Also, taking 'field trips' around the school. We would look for shapes, angles, letters, sight words... #CCSEdChat
A5: My kids are free to work anywhere they’d like in the classroom, as long as they are being safe and getting work done. I incorporates a lot of buddy games, movement activities, and technology to keep them engaged. #ccsedchat
A5: I love watching my kids compose! You can see them making choices about what sounds good to them and it's even better when they are in groups! Lots of discussion and performing. #CCSEdChat
A5. I definitely have a lot of flexible grouping in my classroom. Having my paraprofessionals in my room help a lot with this, which also helps me to further differentiate!! #CCSEdChat
A6- Ss as producers. I am always amazed by what students make when given the opportunity. Commercials, plays, stop motion videos, t-shirt reports, green screen videos, posters, models... I could go on! #CCSEdChat
A6: I love that the definition given mentioned a learning experience- I think it’s so important to find ideas to address the curriculum in fun, engaging ways that create an experience students will take ownership of and remember! #ccsedchat
A3: Sticky notes are my best friend here. I use them to get student perspectives on building community, their personal goals, and for sharing their opinions #CCSEdChat
A7- I love how answers to this one have already been given. It's not about a fancy tool here but what they Ss are doing with it. Creating, sharing, collaborating! #CCSEdChat
A6: I definitely want to mention that student centered learning is student owned. When Ss have input and choice in their learning, then they are that much more engaged and the results are long - lasting. #CCSEdChat
A8-I will be the first to admit I have not explored @SeeSaw like I should. I am going to have to get @Hondahearts to give me a crash course! #CCSEdChat
A8. Wow, so many ideas were shared tonight. I think sometimes I get so focused on making sure my kiddos understand the information, I don’t give them them opportunity to SHOW me that they understand. Definitely want to incorporate more chances for them to “fly free” #CCSEdChat
