Hi folks, @matthew_t_moore has some questions for our chat tonight. Start by introducing yourself and share your state/country, edu position, level/content area. AND please tweet or retweet a 240 character description of your #flipclass or experience with #flipclass.
Hello #flipclass. Ken here, your @flippedlearning board chair, undergrad computing science associate professor at @TecdeMonterrey in Guadalajara. I have been flipping for about 4 years now and lead professional development locally and nationally, intl for flipped learning.
We'll be using Q1/A1 for the chat. Be sure to include #flipclass in your tweets. Our first question will be multiple choice (but don't let that stop you from using all of your characters. :) )
Q1 Here comes #flipclass first multiple choice question so choose the “best fit” generalization. My #flipclass is best described as:
a) flip101 (video at home hwk in class)
b) flip learning (reflects FLIP pillars)
c) flip 3.0 (operating system)
d) hypothetical (not yet)
e) other
The #flipclass lessons I’ve done so far usually Ss watch video at home maybe w/a fill-in-the-blank notes sheet maybe submit a Google form and then we do practice at school maybe in groups w whiteboards/at chalkboard. My group space needs some improvement.
Hi! The job is hard to describe, so it's taken me a while to give it a name. I haven't figured out how to work #flipclass in yet, but there's still time.
It is difficult for me to say. I taught history and started with Flip 101, I am not totally up on the definition of C, but I am going to go with that. #flipclass
A1 basically flip101 in my past practice...but more d (hypothetical) this year as I’m still trying to find my stride again after returning from maternity leave. Must learn to flip w a less-independent toddler around than my firstborn was :(. #flipclass
#flipclass A1 I am "c" I try to utilize the four pillars but flip is my operating system or "frame work"( as i prefer) on which I hang learning elements
My understanding is 2.0 was the flipped mastery described in Bergmann and Sams’ “flip your classroom” book. For 3.0 see here: https://t.co/XqkGlgSLTE#flipclass
my apologies @jbretzmann flip 2.0 equates to flip learning in my mind (as question author) and I didn't want to only that 3.0 is better than 2.0 or 101 but that different methods apply best in different situations. all #flipclass definitely check out book "flipping 2.0"
A2 for #flipclass I modify my delivery and setup for each individual course. My early semester courses tend to need more of an "on rails" setup while my later courses I can lean on my students to take more control of their learning and lean to me as their mentor and guide.
A2: I started with flipped 101 many years ago and now I can't help but have a student-centered, inquiry driven classroom in any class I teach #FlipClass
In the past yes same #flipclass approach to all my flipped classes. May change in future depending on the types of courses on my timetable. We have “academic” and “applied” streams here and the types of Ss I typically get in the two streams can be very different.
A2) I only teach one course/level, but find that my #flipclass morphs from September to June. Like this week I'm dabbling with asynchronous-flip, which would have blown the little kids' minds 2 months ago
A2: #flipclass I teach 2 different courses, and my classes are very different. One is still a flip101 class. Not asynchronous at all. One is totally asynchronous. Different levels and maturity of Ss.
#flipclass A2 the flexibility of flip allows in-flip 101 in my basic math class, a flipped learning linear model in algebra 1 and precalc, and traditional with flipped elements in AP calc BC
A2) My Geometry classes are much more structured in the sense that all Ss watch the same video on the same day, whereas my Pre-Calculus classes are more asynchronous where I say "the test is on this day, here's the list of things you need to do to prepare yourself" #flipclass
A2) My physics was pretty standard #flipclass with elements of mastery. Sr. physics was PBL supported by flipped videos for info. Hoping to use #flipclass to support team based learning for college course.
Q3 What drives changes in your #flipclass (I am unilaterally taking “student needs” answer off the table as I hope that is always considered) what factors drive change in your #flipclass?
yuck....2.0 was appropriate nomenclature but at this point #flipclass is growing by branching not levels of hierarchy or imaginary badging. diversity does not = universally better
a3 #flipclass I've answered this before but it is just a given that I make major changes and shifts to my pedagogy every year end. I plan to contemplate the next change while skiing over the holiday break.
#flipclass A3 for me the flip community provides an informed sounding board for my latest "great idea" (air quotes absolutely required) and my non-edu co-author provides a great "BS" detector
A3 continued: when Jonathan Bergmann said in one of the course videos that just doing video-practice over & over really wasn’t the goal, I was like “Oh...that makes sense...but oh...” (though he also stresses the practice-activity continuum) #flipclass

#flipclass before my battery dies I am serious I would like to collect some 240 character description eruptions of #flipclass in a post it app to share so don't forget to tweet or re tweet your 240 description

A4: #flipclass I am a bunch of those options, but treasure hunter as be the final answer. I love looking for and learning from so many different people. Always have been an adopter too!

Thanks for the great chat tonight, #flipclass! Those of you in the US, have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Everyone else have a great week. We'll chat again next Monday.
Students get the basic information from video. Students then practice/reinforce content with other students and teacher there to support as needed. Students fix misconceptions/adjust understanding based on real time feedback. #flipclass@matthew_t_moore
A4: Jumping into this question: I think I'd choose A): adopter... but I read it as the word "adapter". I love Twitter for all it's ideas that I take and tweek... Hmmm... funny it sounds, to take someone's tweet and tweek! (but definitely no twerking haha) #flipclass

#flipclass A4---I endeavor to start out as a pathfinder (option f) but would like at some point Ss to break out on their own and let me follow them on their learning quest. I would love to follow a fruitful path blazed by my Ss.
