A1:I have not used, but I saw a S create an ancient civilization for SS report for class, pretty awesome, let alone for a 6th grader
Glad you're here! ! Need some practicing experts for this
A1: I have never used it. Anxious to learn and hear ideas. Not all that knowledgable about it either...ready to soak up knowledge
A1: Negative. Zero experience. Excited to hear the possibilities.
A1; No, but I have had kids play it, when I was in a K-12 school. Haven't seen it at my current HS.
A1. No. I had a Ss use a free version a couple years ago to build a community for a project. I'd like to know more!
A1: Never used Minecraft in classroom or out! But my Ss love it! Would love to begin using.
A1) A 5th grade Ts at my school used it for Ss to understand surface area and volume better, by building houses with 3d printer
A1: Haven't used it in my classroom. My 1st experience was watching 5th grader create a hospital on a trip to KC!!
Never have used it in my first grade classroom. But the S love to do at home!
had a couple Ss really into it at home. I should have pursued it further. On my list for this year. https://t.co/mL2ZJ3nJ4v
A1: Never used Minecraft in classroom or out! But my Ss love it! Would love to begin using.
A1- just during our hour of code activities! Looking forward to learning more!
A1: No, really struggling to understand it for myself.Ss really like it though!
Sounds like will be our resident expert tonight!!
don't feel like you have to be the expert. Let the kids be the experts and teach/share with other Ss and you!
A1: I have used in 3rd grade for SS and Math mostly
Agree! I feel like if I can just get it set up, I don't have to know anything. They will figure it out. https://t.co/ehc8SO52uq

Help me out..Is it an app? Web based? Does it cost? https://t.co/VMO9Qf9Py3
A1: I have used in 3rd grade for SS and Math mostly
A2:As an admin, how are the Ss are using this to reach your objectiveThis can squash ppl complaining that Ss are just playing games
It's my experience that Minecraft costs money. How do you find support for funding?
A1:I have not used Minecraft in my classroom, but a benefit it could have would be encouraging analytical thinking in students.
A2: Gather facts and information that displays the benefits Minecraft could have on students in the classroom.
Great question! I always like to see things in action before I go ask for it (if it costs). https://t.co/9O6Y5cTmII

A2) The Ts sent a letter home w/ all standards. Showed 3D houses from Minecraft w/ all the math at open house for parents to see
A2 question! Our previous principal would not allow it on our iPads. An idea would be to have Ss write persuasive papers
we study communities in 3rd so students built communities to rep. the features each have, landforms, directions...
Yes! I'm thinking a problem based approach. T sets up problem and Ss figure it out to meet the outcome https://t.co/ffQ5Mqd1tJ

How are Ts using this in the classroom? I've only seen it used once but would love to see it used productively NOT as busy work?
Eric from Frontenac. HS Technology A little late today.
A3: Pro- creates Ss engagement, lots of Ss love it. Con- appears to outsiders that Ss are just playing games and not learning
A3: Even though I don't use it now, I can imagine that it can increase student engagement and analytical thinking.
A3 MINE CRAFT IS ENGAGING WHEN DONE RIGHT, WHAT ARE THE CONS?
A3:it's just awesome fun!Creativity, solving problems. If you teach Java then kids could create Minecraft https://t.co/XLB1hdIF0S
A2) I wrote a proposal and brought it to the building and district leadership. They purchased for elementary levels
Unfortunately lots of new ideas come across as "playing". I get the "alien look" a lot! https://t.co/lofU5jsACK
A3: Pro- creates Ss engagement, lots of Ss love it. Con- appears to outsiders that Ss are just playing games and not learning
A3: Critical thinking skills and allows Ss to be creative!
Do you use? Can you give us specific things you've done?
A2 my administration supports me when I can show learning
No I stayed at a holiday inn last night. -jk I watched a periscope on it this morning. I was going to check on it.
Yes! Lots of GREAT KS Admins that will go to bat for "crazy" ideas when we can show it's great for kids! https://t.co/Qm1y5ra07D
A2 my administration supports me when I can show learning
A3) Pros: engagement, Ss teaching SS and Ts, unlimited possibilities for S driven content, pre made worlds and ideas
Differences between Minecraft and Minecraft Edu?
A3) Pro - Allows an innovative way to reach some Ss who weren't engaged with traditional methods or maybe didn't grasp a concept
They said they teach JavaScript in the 4th grade. Mind blown!
Hi! Danielle 4th grade, Texas. Briefly seen Minecraft used as an intro to computer programming.
A3) Cons: have to take time to teach some Ss to use it, Ts need to closely monitor, updates can have problems with some worlds
A4: I think Ss will, it is a game without rules/limits
I'm at learning about but we need more money for it
my Ss use to play the free version
A4) For some that love it, it's perfect tool to enhance learning. Like anything else, needs to be one of many ways to reach Ss
I'm going to put myself out there. Lol!! First Twitter chat EVER! May I risk asking what Ts and Ss refers to? Sorry :(
A4 absolutely! Make it fee fun...a little taboo. They will love it.
A4 Until isn't the "IN" thing, Ss Will continue to love playing
Welcome!! We are off next week, but is every Monday at 8cst. Hope to see you here again!
Let Ss use minecraft 4 final novel projects. AMAZING. Built setting and had to show understanding of book details
A5: Have clear objectives that they need to complete, a rubric so they know what and how you want it
And those reached by games, will LOVE IT. We used this year, and I couldn't get some off of it.
Welcome to I'm going to hit you up once I get this thing started. Awesome idea!
A5) Have Ss explain the why behind using Minecraft. Don't focus on tool, but what they are doing & how it can demonstrate learning
Q5: I think you have to have a specific goal in mind with some sort of specific student outcome.
I have a combination of iPads, Chromebooks and Android Tablets. Will it work on all of these?
Agreed. Link it to life beyond the classroom.
Like have them make a screencast so they can explain their thinking while showing/building. https://t.co/M7AURCIScs
A5) Have Ss explain the why behind using Minecraft. Don't focus on tool, but what they are doing & how it can demonstrate learning
students get to be in a world with only classmates.
Hour is almost up!! peeps, follow those that are doing amazing things with Keep the convos going once school starts!
I def need to do some research on Mindcraft in the Classroom. Thank you for the ideas and info!
A4) It depends on your Ss and I would be careful not to overuse it. I give Ss lots of choice so they won't always pick MC
A5 my Ss have objectives and when they reach them they can play until I have Ss share
