A2: We've lost sight of it's real purpose and goals for our youth and our culture #TXHSFBCHAT In 60's & 70's lots of fantastic youth coaches today not so much, Television has also polluted youth sports IMHO, if I'm not good enough to be on TV or on this particular team why play
A2: I’d go with a C+. I believe we are developing athletes in the US. However, we can definitely preach multi-sports more and not only encourage it but set it up for young people to do both at their best with no ramifications. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: I do not coach youth level, but I would spend a ton of time with leverage and approach prior to contact. Positioning prior to contact will usually help with head placement and thus proper technique upon colliding. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: define youth because I really would prefer no tackle till Middle School or Junior High. #TXHSFBCHAT at that level start with @usafootball teaching progression makes the most sense in today's world #TXHSFBCHAT Personally start with close quarters and talk & teach fit, etc.
A3-when i coach defense.... every year i teach tackling as if every player on the team has never seen anybody get tackled before. And this is at a HS... so. I’d prolly do it similar for youth. Maybe progress slower??? #TXHSFBCHAT
A 1. I think many youth coaches haven't learned proper coaching methods. Leads to a bad foundation amongst young athletes. The best coaches need to coach at least one youth sport to help the growth of proper methods and philosophy. #txhsfbchat
Q4 What do you do to ensure a focus on the fundamentals of athlete development (strength, movement skills) & football skill (not X’s and O’s) instruction in your youth & middle school programs? #TXHSFBCHAT
Truthfully I wish & dream we could go back to kids actually WATCHING the game in the morning than going outside to neighborhood park pick sides and play ball - adults screw things up -but yes I prefer flag. My father a Coach of 52 years did not allow me till 7th grade #TXHSFBCHAT
A3. Teach from six point stance first. Eyes , positioning of shoulder , wrap, toes thru ground. Then stand . Then yard away. No pads or helmet. They won't use their head. Video to show them for addl leaning #txhsfbchat
A4: Fundamentals will trump winning at all times in our feeders. Blocking tackling, ball security, footwork, stance, alignment, etc. Will trump all scheme. #TXHSFBCHAT

Q4 What do you do to ensure a focus on the fundamentals of athlete development (strength, movement skills) & football skill (not X’s and O’s) instruction in your youth & middle school programs? #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: Easy in Zero Period - Athletic (Not Football) Development Class - emphasis on strength training, yoga, stretching, nutrition etc all things that we at Gold Beach feel contribute to the development of healthy young men mentally, physically & spiritually #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4 What do you do to ensure a focus on the fundamentals of athlete development (strength, movement skills) & football skill (not X’s and O’s) instruction in your youth & middle school programs? #TXHSFBCHAT
A4. Make the drills fun. Less scheme more technical competition. Focus and celebrate process and growth of their improvements. Less focus on winning a game more on improvements. Middle school a little more team result oriented. #txhsfbchat
Q4 What do you do to ensure a focus on the fundamentals of athlete development (strength, movement skills) & football skill (not X’s and O’s) instruction in your youth & middle school programs? #TXHSFBCHAT
We all should. If you win at the feeders and fade out due to lack of fundamental growth, you’re program will suffer and thus will become someone else’s program. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4B: Nooooo........... 1- Priority teach everyone SAFE fundamentals
2- Play EVERYONE
3 Short Season NOT LONG 6 to 7 games.
4 Make Sure the ALL HAVE A SMILE ON THEIR FACES! #TXHSFBCHAT
Great point! Winning is emphasized too much at the middle school level. We need excellent foundation building coaches and programs to impact kids long term #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: LOL you have no idea how hard this old #DinosaurFBCoach is researching, evaluating, talking with my athletes, READING, turning over every frig'n stone I can turn over to help my kids that I love with all my heart, to become great members of our society. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: I think we could be more tactical with our assessment. We should ensure young people are getting a well rounded experience in training, mentally physically, and psychologically. I want kids proficient and age appropriate when entering high school. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: do you have time for a 2 hour interview - being a Social Studies teacher as well as a Coach for 35 years, and being raised by a coach of 52 years I have a lot of insight and ideas on this topic #TXHSFBCHAT
Certain aspects are covered here --if this is not suffice let me know, I am can write additional pieces for coaches. #txhsfbchathttps://t.co/X9VdtmApsF
Last question Q6: At the high school level, do you include developmental activities beyond the physical / strength and conditioning 🏋🏽♂️in the off-season? If so, how do you 'train' tactical, technical, mental skills, character/leadership? #HolisticAthleteDev#TXHSFBCHAT

Oh sure! We test everything with actual test - Maxs, Times, written tests. But truthfully just be with them-open our eyes see and care for them like their our own! The last thing these kids need is a Athletic Development Standardized Test #TXHSFBCHAT
We do one thing I am proud of - My classroom is a clubhouse for them and they hang out at lunch and before school starts- we talk life, talk relationships, listen to podcasts not just football ones & we watch a ton of HS Football. I live for this time with them #TXHSFBCHAT
Do any coaches use #VirtualReality like @GoArmyEdge ? to enhance tactical aspects in off-season?
What specific mental skills training do you implement? Focus, concentration, relaxation under pressure? Have you collaborated with sport psych?
#TXHSFBCHAT
A6: I lead leadership class in the evening, so our track and baseball athletes can attend. Would love to see how people develop tactical skills #TXHSFBCHAT
Have used this template before and then added in two psychological categories in the blank spaces that I want that athlete to think about. Player rates themselves where they are (1-5) and where they want to finish the off-season. Then I rate & we discuss differences. #txhsfbchat
Opened up a can of worms here with the nebulus and misunderstood and misconstrued #MentalToughness ...... Teach and train the mental skills and put them in challenging (but safe) situations to test them #TXHSFBCHAT
We also do a week long leadership training week where we spend the entire week in the classroom talking life, how to love each other, and our goals off the field. #TXHSFBCHAT
Before we sign off just wanted to mention - For those interested in implementing #LTAD in your program, school or community, learn more here about the LTAD Playground event which can also be arranged in your school or community. #TXHSFBCHAThttps://t.co/ve41E7GEzS
Thank you so much @Joe_Eisenmann! What a great chat!
Thanks to @justplayfb for being an awesome #TXHSFBCHAT sponsor. Please check out their newest product - My Just Play. This is the diagramming tool we've all been waiting for! computer emoji - https://t.co/hZeMzpvkSZ
A6: We copy some of the best in what they do in the off-season I am a huge @CoachLadouceur & DLS fan - our kids read DLS books, watch DLS movies & interviews. We have taken several aspects of several curriculum & created what seems to be working here. Sorry #TXHSFBCHAT

One of the ways I personally teach #MentalToughness is breathing. When uncomfortable, many kids begin to moan implying they want people to know they’re working. I want kids to simply breath. That lets their teammates know they are focused on the next best thing.... #TXHSFBCHAT
I want to thank @Joe_Eisenmann again for a great chat and everything he does to support coaches and athletes! Make sure you follow him and other coaches! See y'all next week! #TXHSFBCHAT
