If you are a bilingual educator, we encourage you to participate in the #DualLangChat and begin to grow a strong bilingual educator professional learning network (PLN). Amazing things happen when you connect with teachers who share similar interests and passions.
Q1 - The challenge of the I can't from Dual Language Ss- is a motivator for both, me to push them and change their vision, but also for them to see the change to ohhh YES I can!!! #DualLangChat#gdubeagles
A1: The students and their growth. As students begin to see themselves as bilingual members of a community, it is gratifying that the hard work we put in is paying off.
#duallangchat
A1: Teaching in a community/school where Spanish is valued just as much as English and working with dedicated professionals that are always eager to collaborate and share their ideas. #duallangchat
I wanted make sure the teachers are successful too. Going to ALTDE made realize the importance of one teacher, one language. Other passion is our dual parents. They are our most involved parents and they support the school. #duallangchat
A2: I have always been passionate about doing my part in helping the future members of our society be well educated and ready to lead us. In CA EL kids are that future and DL education is the most effective way to prepare them.
#duallangchat
Q2: Resources. My mission is for programs resources to reflect their language allocation. There is a huge deficit in Spanish materials and it’s time for change.
A2: I'm passionate about dual language education and biliteracy and seeing my students speak both languages fluently in and out of academic settings. #duallangchat
Teaching Ss new words, and making connections with them. We just learn the word ZARANDEANDO... we are reading Edward Tulane... ohhhh how fun is when they make the bridge and connect! #DualLangChat#gdubeagles
How did you turn this into a fact? One of the struggles in our program... Making sure that both languages have equal value. We've definitely got that going on in the Spanish class, but we're trying to elevate it building-wide (we're a strand within a school)
A3. Be faithful to the program and push through the challenges. You will face them. Find ways to continue your own growth. Work with other dual teachers at your school and those that don't teach dual. Your passion will grow on them. #duallangchat
Q3: Surround yourself with a PLC within and outside of your school and no se rinde. Our work is not just educating, it’s also advocating! #duallangchat
A3: Collaborate, ask colleagues for help when you need it. Teaching is not a competition, and we need to support each other. Read the research on why DL education is effective and what best practices have been proven to work for the DL model you are teaching.
#duallangchat
A3: Know your model and stick to it! Don't give in. Don't try to change the model!
And, like I tell my students, "Respect the language while in my classroom!" #duallangchat
Hola! Mi nombre es Vanessa. I teach Kinder. My district’s school board just approved our first dual immersion program to start next year. I am being told I will most likely be teaching Kinder dual immersion next year. We adopted a 90/10 program.#duallangchat
A1 So many, but the most is the growth of students in their Spanish language acquisition and oral proficiency. Year after year, it never ceases to amaze me! #DualLangChat

A4Went to ATDLE. It was powerful! Missed out on CABE this year, but want to make it next year for sure. My assistant principal who is now our district EL coordinator showed me her passion and it became mine. She lets me know what I need to know and how to do it. #duallangchat
A2: I'm most passionate about opening worlds for my students through the lives of students in the other language. Teaching through music and song and really great literature (which is hard to come by, epecially at the level they enter at in Kinder) #DualLangChat
A4: Conferences like ATDLE y CABE open many eyes to bilingual education. We’ve had Sílvia Dorta Duque de Reyes, @JoseMedinaJr89 and Igone also from CAL coming to @MtDiabloUSD and Guiding us towards excellence in bilingualism #duallangchat

Unfortunately I was not able to attend any conferences this year due to the fact that our school board hadn’t approved our dual immersion program until recently. #duallangchat

A5: Dual Language Educators are unique because WE ARE FAMILY! We get how to teach 2nd language learners. There are NO assumptions, we teach! #duallangchat
Q5 - Dual Language Educators are UNIQUE because they bring passion to their teaching, love to their students but most important build bridges and partnerships to help their Ss and their families achieve sucess in both languages. #DualLangChat#gdubeagles
A5: Dual Language educators are unique because we're on here chatting away, ready to share our dual language journey with people across the country! #duallangchat
A4 attending CABE my first year and specifically attending @maestrasandoval ‘s writing workshop: she gifted attendees with countless resources greatly helped me teach writing! My colleagues are amazing and we work together creating units of study, assessments, etc #DualLangChat
A3. #duallangchat
Best piece of advice/reminder given to me was.... The moment your ELLs are not progressing academically and linguistically you will know your program has lost its focus and it is no longer serving its purpose.
#duallangchat DL educators are unique because we see ourselves in our kids and we know and understand how and what to teach them and we want for them what we didn’t have as kids. We want them to reclaim their space and embrace who they are and what they can become.
#DualLangChat A3) Advice=@S_Villanueva90 & I share a DLI Top 10 when we present on our Journey to DLI; some are: get the right people on the right seats on the bus; use the Guiding Principles for DLI; promo, promo, promo; our #1 was: it’s all about relationships! @AnaheimUHSD
A5: DL teachers are unique because we can constantly bring two languages together to help students understand how they work. Very few other elementary and secondary students have these unique thoughts about language.
#DualLangChat
A5 the DL specialist at my district has called us unicorns :) She says we (DL Ts) achieve the seemingly impossible, often with less readily available resources than our English counterparts. We work hard by choice because of our passion for biliteracy. #DualLangChat
That was us the first year, just four teachers in a school of nearly 25 teachers. We were outnumbered AND new on the block, but we had each other :)
