Hi #read4fun! Michelle, Media Specialist from Daytona Beach so happy to join in again! Currently: The Power of Moments, The Marriage of Gryphons, Collective Efficacy, and Wonder.
A1 I always ask myself what the person may be thinking about the story. Don't want them to wonder why I gave it. Milestones are easier to pick titles for others. #Read4Fun
A1: I like to ask people what their fav book is, or what type. My sister and my son both prefer nonfiction. I also like being with others in a bookstore to see what catches their interest. #Read4Fun
A1 Does it have a positive message? Good, strong character (gender matching)? Award winning? Did I like it? Or Would I like it? Or Might the receiver like it? ... in that order ☺️ #Read4Fun
A1. I struggle to select books for ppl. But I usually ask what they like to read. @AnneBogel asks great@Qs of the readers she is selecting books for. This has been very enlightening. #Read4Fun
A1. If I know the person well, I will actually try to find them something they haven't read but will probably like. Otherwise, I will do the gift card thing. #read4fun
A1- When I give books a presents I either give a book that I personally recommend or I buy a book the person has previously mentioned wanting to read! #read4fun
It was because of stuff happening at my school & how I want us to do things to really encourage & uplift our students. It wasn't a bad thing. #Read4Fun
A2 I was so inspired when I read the ARC of Dear Martin by @getnicced that I have recommended it to everyone! I met the author in Boston a few weeks ago! Thrilled! #Read4Fun
A2 Books that I continue to think about long after reading them are always recommended. My husband and I are constantly recommending books to one another. #Read4Fun
A2: I recommend books that changed me. I recommend books that challenged me. I recommend books that I have a personal connection to after reading. #read4fun#bookworm
A2: Sometimes I can use the reactions of people in my book clubs to assess how someone else might like a book. And students-- they are often the best to recommend! #Read4Fun
Sorry to be missing #read4fun tonight! Catching up from being at a great conference :) A2 I recommend books that I know will benefit someone in a professional way, or have an inspirational message, great story line
A1: The questions that I typically ask when searching for a good book to give as a gift are, 1) Does it have a meaningful message? Would they like it? How can this impact the way we live? What can be taken away?
A3: My go to recommendation is "To Kill a Mockingbird" this book has such a great message behind it, and I want others to be able to share in it #read4fun
a3. My go to would definitely be "Jane Eyre".... It is a long read, but the story is so deep and meaningful. I think just about anyone can get something out of it. #read4fun#gccedu
A1: I like to find genres specific to those I’m gifting. I look for books that added meaning to my life and hope they will add the same to others. #Read4Fun
A3 I have several 'go-to' gift books depending on the occasion. New titles or fav authors are easy to gift as you know they are 'wanted' by the receiver. #Read4Fun
I recently finished The Liberal Redneck Manifesto. I'm from TN, so I could relate to much of it, but the guys who wrote is spoke from their hearts, so it was funny and poignant. #read4fun
Hello! Sorry about the late arrival. Melisa Erwin, HS English in WI. A1: I usually ask, "Is it the type of book the receiver will like? If not, do I think they should read it anyway? If they don't like it will I want to read it?" A good book is a terrible thing to waste. 😁
A3: My friend @leanneh20worth wrote a memoir of her life, living in hope, though her boys have CF. It is funny, charming, smart, and gripping. I also like that it is real. To the bone. Just Breathe. https://t.co/1wfrt9mNhX#read4fun
