Hello #ADEchat! I'm Ann and I'm super excited to guest moderate chat tonight for #CSEdWeek and #HourOfCode! I'm ADE Class of 2015 #BESTClassEver and a Tech Innovation TOSA in #FSDlearns Fullerton, CA! Welcome! Here we go!!!
A1 coding teaches computational thinking, maths, logic, sequence & helps students develop perseverance in problem solving tasks. This will not change. Let's empower our scholars w access to developing coding literacy to better their future academic/work pursuits #ADEchat
A1. One of the top skills that companies want in their employees is the ability to problem solve and be creative. Coding teaches that to all students regardless of what they do in their life. #adechat
A1. One of the top skills that companies want in their employees is the ability to problem solve and be creative. Coding teaches that to all students regardless of what they do in their life. #adechat
A1 Coding has become a new literacy; it's all around us & s's & t's should learn basic coding skills bc it's so much more than just coding. Its prob solving, collaborating, & more! #ADEchat
Agreed...I just did this trying to pass a level in @codesparkapp with my friend @caribailey123! We had to think through the sequence with step by step directions! #ADEchat
A1: Learning to code helps us to learn how to take a problem & break it down into something(s) more manageable, gives us opportunities to build something that we imagine, & also if we fail to keep trying & persevere! So many great things can come to life & be learned! #ADEchat
Hey #Adechat! Kristin from #Chicago joining in for a bit! Trying to juggle a lot tonight but happy to be with you and excited to learn from @annkozma723! #RockOn
A2 July 12, 2014... I downloaded the LightBot app at @LAGalaxy
game and wrote my first few lines of code ever! Learned about simple algorithm and played to learn! #ADEchat
A1 I love that #hourofcode teaches my students that every step of the process is important and that collaboration is super helpful for problem solving plus they get just as excited as I do to Code all week @codeorg#ADEchat#EveryoneCanCode#wesipadlab
Hello everyone! Jumping in a bit late after the kids went to bed. I'm Michelle, an Instructional tech coach from a south burb of Chicago. Excited to make it to the chat tonight! #adechat
A2. I started on an TRS-80 and then upgraded to an Apple IIe. All in basic. All self-taught. It was hard. I don't think I quit since I'm now learning Swift and still coding... oh yeah, and teaching app dev. #adechat

Q2: Showing my age here... Basic and it was in high school. It was difficult at the time, I was not the best student at the time. FYI... that tape deck is not for music. #ADEChat
A2: The first thing I coded was a design that was made by a little turtle in LOGO...It was challenging, but I got such a great sense of accomplishment! I must admit, I didn't want to stop creating.....ever! #ADEchat#CSEdWeek#hourofcode
Isn't logo celebrating a 20th anniversary or something like that? I'm a total newbie when it comes to coding! My first experience was with the LightBot app! #ADEchat
A1: This statement is so true! You always have to think about the cause and effect when creating your algorithms. If your code doesn't work, you have to debug. Constant thinking, planning, designing and reflection taking place. #adechat
Hi Ryan! We all start somewhere! I've got BIG plans for Scratch Jr with some of my K-2 teachers in #FSDlearns coming in 2018! I'm super excited! #ADEchat
Hello all! Glad to see I’m not the only late joiner. Just finished an iOS Dev Teacher Meetup w/@mobilemakers Ts and developer @theWadeSellers Awesome to see English Ts building apps! #ADEchat
A2: The first thing I ever coded was when I first introduced the #HourofCode to my students through https://t.co/qT8hCalqaF and Hopscotch nearly 5 years ago. I had no clue what I was doing, but loved learning from my 5th grade students at the time! #adechat
I used to teach BASIC up until a few years ago. It's still great for learning the basics. Used it with 5th grade and they loved it. https://t.co/VtkYDQXnTZ#ADEChat
Hi friend! That MAGIC when watching your program run is indeed amazing! It fills my bucket to get to see this amazement on our scholars' faces when watching their programs run! #ADEchat
My earliest struggles was that I was the only kid in town coding. I couldn't find a peer group at the time. I've gotten better at finding them now. #ADEChat
Today at @Apple... Did you know that local Apple stores are hosting #HourOfCode events? Join us for an Hour of Code™ from Dec. 4–10, and celebrate #CSEdWeek at Apple! #ADEchat
It was only 2 years ago I went to my first @codeorg training! I still have SO much to learn but I am SO excited to continue my own #HourOfCode journey BEYOND an hour! #ADEchat
A2: I’m still just learning! Swift Playgrounds is my first experience. I’m also learning through my 5 year olds as they begin coding in kindergarten #d56achieves#adechat
Everyone should learn to code, not just because it helps us think, but because others are thinking about how we think- that impacts lives. If I want my students to have “power”, they need to code. My fav Carl Sagan quote sums it up for me. #ADEchat

A3: We are sharing what our students are doing through social media. @Flipgrid explorer series. Some schools have also emailed the info out for #TodayatApple to families. LOTS of coding taking place in all of our schools this year in all different forms. #adechat
A2: Do websites count? lol I think my first code was a google site or myspace template waaaaaaay back when. Then it quickly became HTML coding, advanced branching surveys, and later learning the basics of SWIFT! :)

I LOVE sharing the #SwiftPlaygrounds guides with friends and colleagues! New to coding? No worries! Download the Guides and get started! @AppleEDU#ADEchat
Q4: We have a K student with vision concerns. I showed her and her teacher the zoom features on her iPad. Also set up a MacBook for testing with some features turned on. She was so happy to be able to use her device. #AdeChat
A4. We use #AppleEDU Learn to Code and App Development with Swift guides in our engineering program. Next year, we are offering a 4 year App Dev pathway for high school. #adechat
Q2: I think I’ve been “coding” w/out tech w/logic games for yrs. Took an intro class on C in college- lots of theory, not much coding. Coached robotics team + taught engineering w/Visual Basic = caught the coding bug. #ADEchat
wow! I'm sure she felt so empowered and READY to get going with her device! Love the simple changes that accessibility can provide that completely change everything for the better! #ADEchat
A4. Today students were given choice of what to try for Hour of Code. I had some using OSMO Coding, The Foos app, https://t.co/iKhKn4cMbL, #SwiftPlaygrounds and one who has moved on to Python. Great to provide options to meet interest and ability! #EveryoneCanCode#ADEChat

A4: Part 2 - Accessibility features I love - Switch Control, VoiceOver, and even additional voice commentary on the actions of characters as students control them with code! #ADEchat#CSEdWeek#HourofCode
SO many opportunities to differentiate coding for our scholars! Ts don't always have to be the experts, just provide access to various tools and let the scholars GO! #ADEchat

Our district is using the full line as a key component in our K-12 coding curriculum. All learners will get coding throughout K-7 and then specialized programs 8-12. #ADEChat
A4 I used Swift with HPL 3rd graders last year (due to ipad limitations) and when we upgraded this year started it with ALL 4/5 students! It is my go-to "early finisher" project and I love that they work at their own pace - they're able to help each other succeed! #ADEchat
A4: We have some teachers integrating content with coding this week and some just offering choice. As for accessibilities, Typing Feedback has been very beneficial to one of our students who needs assistance with vision. #adechat

some of my Ts were blown away by how comprehensive the Facilitator Guides were! I love when they download those guides and see just how much support @AppleEDU provides for every step along the learning to code journey! #ADEchat
A4 The key piece is using the Curriculum Guides rather than just "sticking s's on an app". When I'm working w t's we demo actual lessons from the guides & then go into the #SwiftPlaygrounds app #ADEchat#EveryoneCanCode
A5 I've seen students develop new beliefs in their own abilities..."I did it!" "I can't believe it worked!" "I am a coder!" that's a gamechanger. #ADEchat
Sidenote.....but can I just say that I also love how engaged students are with coding? I have a kiddo who has had significant behavioral issues and when he codes, he literally beams. Another student caught me just watching & smiling today. #Momentslikethis#whyiteach#Adechat

A5. Coding has given my learners more opportunities to make a difference in their community. I have one writing an app for our Special Education department. #adechat
A5 Learning to code has forced me to remember what it feels like to be a learner--to be vulnerable, learn from Ss and try something new. It's opened doors for students who excel in CS and given them a platform to teach others. #ADEchat
today one of my Ts was SHOCKED that there were things she could download from the guides and use as resources when teaching! those guides are solid gold! #ADEchat

A5: Coding has connected me more with my students and allowed me to see their creativity and thinking process visually. It opens their ideas to future projects. STEAM with coding in SS, Story telling and animal adaptations are just some from today. #adechat
A5: Speaking for both my Ss & myself - code has brought back the fun in learning, has helped us to make connections as we learn together, and given us the chance to bring our dreams to life! #ADEchat#CSEdWeek#HourofCode
A5:It is empowering! I love knowing that I can use coding/logic and advanced branching to make my tech work for me. It can be frustrating but there is nothing like that moment when it just works. So powerful. That is what our Ss need---to feel the power of learning! #ADEchat

A5 It’s shaped my career. Got my undergrad degree in Computer Science, and web application development was a major part of my job for 14 years. It’s still immensely helpful in my current job. #ADEchat
A5 Learning to Code has impacted me by getting my family onboard w/ coding but also feeling empowered to teach others on coding by using the awesome @AppleEDU resources. Also love + feedback in SP! #ADEchat
I was just talking about this with some Kinder scholars - it's learning a new language and we have to learn how to talk to computers and robots, etc. They were SO excited to learn a new language that would let them talk to our @Ozobots! #ADEchat
Q5 Since learning to code, I’ve built 6 websites + exposed friends to Swift + encouraged fellow Ts to get on the train. We must model being expert learners for our students who will have jobs we don’t know; coding allows us to learn w/them. #ADEchat#expertlearner
A6. Coding gives another way that people can build things that matter. And in a "sneaky" way, learners get an amazing set of problem solving and communication skills. #adechat

A6: The future of our students, is code. They can create an app, design a website, or build a robotic to help resolve a situation. It can really give a student so much power. For some, it gives them a voice you wouldn't hear otherwise. #adechat
They can literally code the future. The way technology has advanced over even my lifetime (80s baby) has been incredible - I can't wait to see what happens during our students' lives as they code the technology we will use in the next decades. #ADEchat#ImagineThePossibilities
