  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:10 PM EST
Q1: What is something new you tried this week - it could be with students, with colleagues, with friends, or with family. #IDedchat
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:11 PM EST
A1: I introduced a new reporting style for our teachers to use for their Academic Lab students to help create S responsibility. #idedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:12 PM EST
OOOO!! That sounds interesting - tell us a little more about that Dan. #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:14 PM EST
R1: I created a tracking system for students to document volunteer opportunities, clubs, extracurricular activities, GPA, etc in @CanvasLMS. This may be used for future recognition of our graduates. #IDedchat
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:14 PM EST
So we use Tyler SIS. Many Ts were going through a painstaking process to find missing assignments or zeros in the gradebook. Now there's a much easier way. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • petthyng1 Nov 7 @ 10:15 PM EST
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:15 PM EST
So did you create the tracking system right within your SIS, or did you use another tool? #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:16 PM EST
That sounds interesting as well! Did you use a tool that is unique to Canvas? I am using Canvas for the first time this semester. #IDedchat

Q1: Providing recorded lectures and activity based learning #IDEdChat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:17 PM EST
A1: I just remembered something "new" I am doing - I am teaching a course for "alternate authorization" route to certification for CSI. #IDedchat
  • hiccupc Nov 7 @ 10:17 PM EST
A1: Something new...good use of a filter. As for a "tool" I introduced that was well received by Ts, Crio, a content creation tool by Curriculum Pathways. #IDedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:18 PM EST
Hi Jason! Tell us more about this - recorded lectures using what....and activity based learning??? #IDedchat
    In reply to @MrBurton09
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:18 PM EST
I created it in modules. Ss will enter evidence that will e checked by counselors, admins, coaches, club sponsors. Points will be awarded for their activities. The data will be weighted in the gradebook for a final score to be determined based on their input. #IDedchat
    In reply to @averyteach, @CanvasLMS
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:19 PM EST
Good use of a filter....tell us a little about the context here. :-) #IDedchat and HI!! Chris!

I teach in NJ this week I try a new activity using a digital textbook. it was hard at first because I have never try it. The kids like it #idedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:20 PM EST
Love it - Have you found that it saves class time? Do you have more time for individualized instruction? #IDedchat
    In reply to @MrBurton09
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:20 PM EST
It was in the SIS. It was just something that people had never seen before. So I created some training material and presented it at the PD session. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:21 PM EST
Tell us a little more about the activity - what type of digital text? #IDedchat
    In reply to @petthyng1
  • hiccupc Nov 7 @ 10:21 PM EST
Helloooooo! I guess there comes a time when we must all be adults and exercise the filter. "I hear that you're frustrated." is a great response in these situations. #IDedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:22 PM EST
Yes - filters are important when "adulting." :-) #IDedchat

    In reply to @averyteach
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:29 PM EST
YES! We need to be sure to tell our story. If we don't, others will. We also need to be sure that what we share conveys the message we want associated with our school/district. :-) #IDedchat
    In reply to @MrBurton09
  • MrBurton09 Nov 7 @ 10:29 PM EST

A1: I recording instructions using screencastomatic and posted in Google Classroom. #idedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:31 PM EST
This is a great question - when the weather turns, I do have to fight my "hibernation" tendencies. :-) #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:32 PM EST
I tell my kids exactly how many days of class are remaining. I find that when Ss realize the short amount of time that we have left, it keeps the sense of urgency up for my Ss. #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • kforsman96 Nov 7 @ 10:32 PM EST
A1 I helped Kindergarteners create their first recording in Seesaw. #IDEdChat
  • rachelacraig Nov 7 @ 10:32 PM EST
A1: I recorded instructions for an assignment using screen cast o matic and posted in Google Classroom. #idedchat
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:33 PM EST
Agreed. We become wrapped up in the idea of snow days that we lose focus of the learning that should be happening. I am thankful I teach in a windowless classroom for that #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:33 PM EST
WOW! Tell us more about this - what was the topic/purpose of the recording? #IDedchat
    In reply to @kforsman96
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:33 PM EST
I've tried that with my AP kids and registering early for the AP test. Some are having that sense of urgency which is good. #idedchat

Are you for hire? : ) I have a ton of odd and end things that need to be done at my house! #idedchat
    In reply to @rachelacraig
  • rachelacraig Nov 7 @ 10:34 PM EST
This is a great idea - I don't think kids realize how little time is left in the semester. #idedchat
    In reply to @LCHS_Bio, @WinkelerD
  • kforsman96 Nov 7 @ 10:35 PM EST
They were reading the stories that they wrote. #IDEdChat

    In reply to @rachelacraig

    In reply to @kforsman96
  • rachelacraig Nov 7 @ 10:36 PM EST
I think it was helpful so that students had access to my verbal directions. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:36 PM EST
We are on block so I have my kids every other day. We have either 2 or 3 classes next week, then we are off for Thanksgiving. We come back and have 5 classes, a week of review, then finals for first semester. Max of 11 classes. Time to work. #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:37 PM EST
We are on block as well. I need to count it out and display it in Google Classroom for them as a reminder. Nice idea! #idedchat
    In reply to @LCHS_Bio

How do you continue building culture amongst your students at this point in the year? #IDedchat
  • kforsman96 Nov 7 @ 10:39 PM EST
It was amazing to see the tinkle in their eyes when they listened to themselves. #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:40 PM EST
What other ways do you use SeeSaw with your Kinders? #IDedchat
    In reply to @kforsman96
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:41 PM EST
It is easy to build culture through the actions displayed daily. If Ss see that you are passionate about the class, then they follow suit. #idedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:42 PM EST
How do Ss help build that culture? #IDedchat
    In reply to @WinkelerD
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:43 PM EST
By taking an interest in the learning that is going on and "buying-in" to the passion on display #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach
  • rachelacraig Nov 7 @ 10:43 PM EST
With history I find having class discussion on our topics helps. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach, @WinkelerD
  • kforsman96 Nov 7 @ 10:43 PM EST
They will use the drawing and recording tool to have them write their name or other words. It is a great way for teachers to have video evidence of letter formation. #IDEdChat

Posting things in Google Classroom so all Ss have a voice that don't always raise their hand and feel comfortable to talk aloud. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach, @rachelacraig
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:45 PM EST
I have “normal” conversations with my Ss. About basketball, or music, or whatever their interest is. Sometimes building a relationship means staying off task for a little bit. I find I can get through more material when we have a few minutes of off task discussion #IDedchat
  • rachelacraig Nov 7 @ 10:45 PM EST
I find it helpful to do small group/partner interactions to help all students feel like they have something to contribute. #idedchat
    In reply to @averyteach, @WinkelerD
  • LCHS_Bio Nov 7 @ 10:46 PM EST
I also have discussions that bring in real topics and explain why what they are learning is important. Like cells going through rapid mitosis—cancer. Everyone knows what cancer is, but do they KNOW what cancer IS? #IDedchat
  • averyteach - Moderator Nov 7 @ 10:47 PM EST
What are some ways you incorporate Student Voice and Choice in demonstrating learning? #IDedchat
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:49 PM EST
Yes, building the relationships with the students outside of the classroom are key to participation and the relationships built inside the classroom. #idedchat
    In reply to @LCHS_Bio
  • WinkelerD Nov 7 @ 10:51 PM EST
I often times have them share their experiences on the topic we are covering. Lets others see that they aren't alone and that it's not just in a textbook #idedchat
