#stucentclass A1 For me there is no perfect student-centered classroom- all of mine are very different. But, the foundation is authentic, active, engaging lessons where students are do all the work.
#stucentclass A1 A student-centered room can be quiet and contemplative or noisy and boisterous as long as learning is taking place I let the students decide the volume & level of movement

A1 When I think of a student centered class I think of choice. Choice in tools to use, choice in seating, choice in ways to show work such as apps etc #stucentclass
That is funny #stucentclass Someone asked me this question the other day. I was like there isn't really one- just one that flows and is unique to the community of learners
#stucentclass A1: the "perfect" student centred class is responsive to S's needs. It responds as easily to S dreams and passions as it does to curriculum

A1) #stucentclass has a level of what I would call controlled chaos that is seen through inquiry, passion, excitement and collaboration to enhance goal accomplishment and learning.

#stucentclass A2 Practice. I have them not only reflect on their personal growth, but the progression of the classroom, my level of engaging lessons and each other- they get good at it when they have to be honest and thoughtful
#stucentclass Love this. It is everything embodying the social, emotional, comedic just everything. Their hopes and dreams and vulnerabilities all the focus of learning
#stucentclass A2 I appreciate their candor and honesty because we cant grow if we do not hear the truth- it is all about how you phrase it- we practice thoughtful reflection a lot
A2 I model perseverance and then as a class we show examples of how to persevere. Throughout the year ss become motivated. They love to show what they've learned.

#stucentclass A2: I help my S's lead their own learning by giving them attractive opportunities for learning. If they see something they want to chase, they'll learn all sorts of stuff to get it!

#stucentclass I love this- attractive opportunities. I think some curiosity and discrepant events lures them in and when a challenge follows they will dive in head first

#stucentclass A3 I ask higher-order questions. I am teaching them not science, but how to teach themselves science and how to see the big picture. The more they see the bigger connections the more they can ask deeper questions
A3) For Littles, try to model what it looks like (good criticism) and then I have the Ss do little skits to show the ‘right’ & ‘wrong’ way. #stucentclass
#stucentclass A3 Formulating questions requires some unpacking of the standards. We look at the verbs and adjectives of the TEKs/standards and then I have them write essential questions for the unit.
A3 We do feedback in reading workshop and writing workshop. We also ask questions during share time in morning meeting. They learn through practice to listen, respond, & ask questions
#stucentclass
A3) Last week I gave the students posted notes to provide constructive feedback on my writing prompt and then I went back and made the suggested revisions. This was key as @Barbieb94 and I decided to focus on the #Lead in our writing. #stucentclass
#stucentclass Modeling feedback is so important. Students need practice, this is a skill we all need to learn. We also need to learn to take criticism better, I know I do.
We negotiate the success criteria too, it’s important for them to identify what that looks like & own it - takes time to get them into this way of thinking but well worth it #stucentclass
#stucentclass Very cool. Isn't it awesome to hear what our students have to say? It brings us so much closer as pupil/teacher right? They feel they have a voice.
As a school we are incorporating the use of sentence stems such as I agree with... or I disagree with...
@kimmiefergs and @jrestock3 do a great job of modeling this with students. #stucentclass
#stucentclass A4 I ask them lots of higher level questions to get them familiar with the style of questioning. We discuss how to frame a well-thought out question.
A3: If it is peer feedback I like to ask Ss to answer what the other student did well, and some tips for improving their idea, performance, writing. #stucentclass
#stucentclass A4 I use 'big words' as they call them. I like to build their vocabulary and then we use them on our graffiti board. The more complex vocabulary they have, the more meaningful and deeper ways they can ask questions.
A4 I use prompts/provocations to engage their ‘hearts’ & hook them in through #designthinking methods, embraces collective divergent thinking, I use a project nest to track the change in thinking #stucentclass
A4: Take the initiative to explore a question a student poses with the class. Let them see that their questions have power and are important. #stucentclass
#stucentclass A4 The best way to get students to ask the right questions is to challenge their thinking and push them a little further each day. Set the bar high and not only will they reach it they will jump well beyond it.
