Media Specialist, Tech Guy, ELA T from FL.
A1: I had creative ideas for lessons & would get the community involved. I didn't understand good assessment practices.

Michelle Graduate Student (education), North Carolina.
Janice from Virginia here.
A1 - Did a great job getting involved, learning the lay of the land and building relationships. Struggled with school stuff.
Looking for ideas on teaching class humility. Please share and let me know your thoughts!

Michelle Graduate Student (education), North Carolina.
A1 started out being excellent at being the central source of info for students. Now I let students drive
A1. I think I was good at forming relationships, but lousy at classroom management
A1 I openly admitted when something didn't go right. Wasn't afraid to make mistakes. I would have talked less and listened more.
A1: I had that wonderful new teacher passion. Different: slow down, teach less more in depth. Stress less.
A1 I would definitely differentiate more for my Ss who needed to be challenged.
A1- Passion & relationships were always there, but I have learned so much about S engagement, rigor, & instr. practice in general
Lance, Principal, Gallatin, TN
A1:Built great relationships with Ss
- got caught up in power struggles that negatively impacted environ https://t.co/0uxjYdEPoZ

YES, rookie mistake made often - getting trapped in the power plays
A1 I wish I had devoted more focus on better questions and discussion techniques rather than focusing on answers
An awesome evolution! https://t.co/hQ0RiwSuF1

I was going to say the same thing. The shower seems to be the best place for ideas
A2: Best reflection is while I wash my hair or in the bath, lol. Not kidding. Relaxing helps me reflect. https://t.co/uCbgzgBxm4
Q2: When you do your best individual reflecting, what do you do? Do you have a particular place, ritual, schedule, etc.?
A2) My best reflecting comes through writing blog posts. Other great processing comes from talking with other educators.
A2 Doing this chat has caused me to be a lot more reflective about my own professional practice. That's the power of Twitter!

A2 Car ride home or taking a walk
I like this idea! I hand write mine out but Google calendar might be better! https://t.co/Ou5SGhoaQ7
A2 At the end of the day, I write in google calendar what was accomplished for ea class that visited the library. That's my time.
A2: I reflect when I can because my schedule is so busy and hectic. When I do tho, I just sit and think if my Ss "got it" that day
A2: I try to blog as often as possible, jotting down ideas as they come.
A2: in the car driving home from work.... Traffic allows for good think time
A2) I started blogging which provides awesome reflection. But my best thoughts come in the morning when I'm visualizing my day.
A2: lunch time with my teaching partner...we share our reflections almost daily during this time
A2 when I write (journal or blog), car, and spacing out in random places LOL
It did keep me up if I didn't reflect on my commute. It is a process that I have to do daily.
A2: Also when I participate in great chats like tonight !
I find that I reflect a lot with (counselor) at work. I go over many ideas, mistakes, and celebrations w/her
Q3: Students don't always know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively. How can we scaffold for them?
I’d agree, Joel. Great reflection here (LoL).. Seriously, thanks! https://t.co/twGXOzbvLu
A2: Also when I participate in great chats like tonight !
A2: Walks, driving, quiet time.
I don't have a particular system for reflection, but it always comes naturally when I am driving - usually to and from school.
Writing is an important means of reflection for educators. I don't know what I don't know until I write about it!
Definitely agree! I love when something or someone makes me think deeper! That is how we grow.
A2I'm constantly reflecting, anytime anywhere.I use onenote to write any thought that comes into my mind and I don't want to forget
A3 We have to 'think out loud' for our Ss. Model, model, model!
A2 I find my self reflecting throughout the day. No specific time.
Q2: I journal. Always have a notebook and pen with me and sketch out my reflections. Lots of thinking happens on my commute.
My reflections happen during unfocused times; driving, working out, etc. Need the downtime to clear the junk & connect the dots!
Good writing comes from good thinking https://t.co/mI8pbEa1WD
A2: My best reflection comes when I am writing. Writing helps me to problem-solve. My best ideas? . . . they come in the shower!
This is great. I find I do a lot of good reflecting with others when relaxed. https://t.co/xqLMD6mtGP
A2: lunch time with my teaching partner...we share our reflections almost daily during this time
A2: I do a lot of reflecting during assignments. If I see it isn't working I change it quickly in hopes of turning things around
Great routine ! https://t.co/9gBfacz7gf
I try and reflect right after a lesson, so I can improve for the next class! I teach Art so I have opportunities to do it better...
Me too! I ❤️while I drive & think about how I could have made it even better https://t.co/0rYx0gKwqg
A2 I reflect on the drive home, walking outside and during chats when discussing projects
A3: modeling via reflective questioning. Teaching kids how to think rather than what to think allows for reflection
It feels like something's missing...Where's tonight!?
A3 we have a weekly project log that asks them reflective questions. We also have students write tutorials about proj
Ya! came from T's reflecting on benefits of writing. 1 of which is reflection. Mind = blown https://t.co/zOkQHYZAzM
A2: My best reflection comes when I am writing. Writing helps me to problem-solve. My best ideas? . . . they come in the shower!
A2 I reflect best when I'm exercising. It clears my mind and allows me to organize my thoughts.
A3: Model, model, model. Use writing to learn. Provide visual / creative reflection pieces for engagement. DIALECTICAL JOURNALS.
A3: provide the model and lead by example...if they don't see us doing it, they won't necessarily see the value
A3: in my opinion, reflection involves a growth mindset accept mistakes, and greet challenges head on
I believe in modeling the reflective process out loud whenever possible and appropriate. https://t.co/tG5NNu2qoj
Q3: Students don't always know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively. How can we scaffold for them?
A3) Modeling this for them and giving them opportunities to reflect through a variety of different mediums. Blogs, paper, etc.
Reading your PLN's blog posts will help you with your own. That's why it's important to share out. https://t.co/5ulBwS5Zsn
I am looking into blogging - It seems like that is the new personal journal!
A3 I have my older students do a lot of process writing - what did they accomplish today? What will they do next class?
That's the nice thing about blogging: you can publish or not ! https://t.co/oWJKvUJ5nL
A2: I WRITE! I'm a blogger, but I write & reflect way more than I publish. It helps me be intentional. https://t.co/NERHIKu9VT
Q2: When you do your best individual reflecting, what do you do? Do you have a particular place, ritual, schedule, etc.?
A3 Start small - provide guided questions; teach them how to be mindful; how to think...
A3 teach them how to learn first and content second, think-alouds, exit tickets-reflection
A2: Much of my reflecting comes in the middle of the night. I will ponder ideas as I go to sleep and be like BAM I have to try this
A2 Gosh. At night time after listening to Christian radio when it shares inspiring stories. I solve a lot of problems.
a3 have to model, friday meetings, asking what went well, and what do i need to do better, scary but so worth it!
Hey Michelle!! https://t.co/Z7PUiG286g
Q2: I journal. Always have a notebook and pen with me and sketch out my reflections. Lots of thinking happens on my commute.
A3: When Ss don't know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively, we should model and allow them opportunities to practice.
A3 making time for reflective writing at the end of the day as a whole, then share. Model what I think when reflecting on OUR day.
A3 To encourage metacognition, we have students record short videos demonstrating what they've learned.
Exercise is my brain break. it takes me out of the constant stream of daily teacher life for 60 min a day. https://t.co/gucuMwdOFh
A2 I reflect best when I'm exercising. It clears my mind and allows me to organize my thoughts.
Q3:We've been Thinking Routines.By making their thinking visible sometimes they take more of a risk allowing u 2 scaffold
A3 moved to to get students in a more reflective mood
My best thinking happens when I jog... thinking about a blog post!
https://t.co/a4hhqK1rK7
A2: My best thinking happens when I am working on a blog post
we can support the development of metacognition by modelling & questioning
A3- Build in time & teach process, can be a combo of oral/written. Can be class discussion..what worked & didn't, how and why
A3: Providing feedforward on their blog reflections to encourage them to think about their thinking. Talking out loud to model it.
Some Ss need stopping pts when working on something. Reflection pauses. Ts can facilitate this for Ss. https://t.co/tG5NNu2qoj
Q3: Students don't always know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively. How can we scaffold for them?
A3 also have the S's do a lot of Praise Prompt Polish type critiques so they reflect on & improve their work before it's too late!
A2 - I work backwards many times. I start with where I want the kids to be at the end. It helps keep the big picture in view.
Q3: Think alouds. Constant modeling. I am always vocalizing what my brain is thinking as I teach.
Yes!!! So important! Great point https://t.co/oYfsPomRHe
A3: modeling via reflective questioning. Teaching kids how to think rather than what to think allows for reflection
Love it, Lisa! https://t.co/KLNLJvEQ6W
My reflections happen during unfocused times; driving, working out, etc. Need the downtime to clear the junk & connect the dots!
A3 I have done this with my Ss and own kids, I ask them to verbally share their sunshine (good) & cloud (not so good) for the day
A3: model reflection to students; show that it's important to you, the teacher so they see value in reflection
A3: providing a rubric and letting Ss self score then conference with Ts and/or Ss will scaffold reflection
A3: Reflect ideas out loud in front of them. Use questioning to help pull out their reflection. . Exit tickets are also a good idea
Sorry I'm missing and crew! Been off the grid for a little.
A3: I agree with lots of you. We have to model for our students. Think out loud and give them examples of our own reflections.
A3 model it, give them strategies,I have created surveys & use other tools to get their reflections, conversations
A3: Great 2model the metacognitive process.Think about ur thinking out loud, esp during productive struggle https://t.co/WFrZ9vQQod
Q3: Students don't always know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively. How can we scaffold for them?
True! Share with students the idea of a fixed vs. growth mindset!
A3 reflecting throughout the day 1:1 or in carpet time sets the tone as well.
A3 Modeling Reflective thinking also requires us to communicate what & how we listen to understand which leads me to more Qs
A3: modeling for sure. Also, my S's do well with sentence stems when self-assessing/reflecting. https://t.co/io7AerxGua
Q3: Students don't always know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively. How can we scaffold for them?
A3: Completely agree! We must model what we do AND we must write / reflect WITH our Ss, take risks, be human https://t.co/FO1wtXyIFQ
A3: When Ss don't know how to reflect or think meta-cognitively, we should model and allow them opportunities to practice.
A2: I do a lot of reflection during my workouts also.
Definitely something we need to instill in all… Ts and Ss. Good point, Roxanne! https://t.co/j7c5oQd7nD
A3: in my opinion, reflection involves a growth mindset accept mistakes, and greet challenges head on
Great to here from you! Catch you next time! https://t.co/7JlWE0uYXw
Sorry I'm missing and crew! Been off the grid for a little.
Love this Holly!! https://t.co/lgNhHYSfht
A3: Model, model, model. Use writing to learn. Provide visual / creative reflection pieces for engagement. DIALECTICAL JOURNALS.
We started a gratitude journal and I always model one.
