Welcome to #MTedchat! Topic tonight is “Celebrate Teachers and Teaching” Take a moment to introduce yourself: name/role/location. (Tag a friend/colleague to join in!!)
A1: Kathy Kimberlin is one who stands out because she was kind and yet pushed me as a writer. The two most positive were my parents! #MTedchathttps://t.co/Okkv6pMAZm
A1: My most positively impactful teacher was my elementary art teacher... Yes, we had an actual, on staff...ART TEACHER. He was amazing. Helped me see talent in myself. #mtedchat

A1: I have a few who come to mind, but Mrs. Koeppen, my first grade teacher was such an engaged and encouraging person. She is the reason I became a teacher, I wanted to be like her. #MTedchat
A1 my first grade teacher Mrs. Gartzka. I know I was young but I was in her class when I decided I just had to be a teacher and I’ve never waivered from that. I remember her being calm, and caring and patient. #MTedchat
A1b) My sixth grade reading teacher. Told me I was capable of reading more than The Boxcar Children. We are friends now! I've subbed for her. #MTedchat
True - I should include ALL of my music teachers through the years. While I didn't pursue music in my career, it definitely shaped who I am. Those people are precious to me! #mtedchat
I think those teachers who hit us in our "passion subjects" are near and dear because they helped build our PERSONAL foundations, not just the academic parts. #MTedchat
Many of the Ts that we are talking about encouraged us to reach high for what we could be, & motivated us to do what we do...thank you to all of those Ts who have helped us get where we are #MTedchat
A2: As a daughter of administrators I always try and see the big picture & remember Ms K and make kindness a 1st priority. It's much easier to be kind to kids...is what I have learned #MTedchat
Love this... Innovative spirit is what helps us see we don't have to teach as we were taught... We can be creative... Have autonomy. Thanks for sharing! #MTedchat

A2: Compassion, empathy, and lots of patience! I really try to listen to what the Ss have to tell me. I want them to know that I care about them both in and out of the classroom. #MTedchat
A2: Build positive Relationships, Believe In Students, Focus On Student Strengths, Use Humor, Rigor/Relevance, Know What Your Students Like, and Use Questions to Foster Student Ownership #MTedchat
A2: The teachers I cherish most were very responsive and attentive. I never felt like I was 'bothering them' (I needed a lot of support, as I was a slow processor). I aim to be that accessible. #mtedchat
A2 the element of fun and openness. I most remember teachers who were real and even silly sometimes. Ts who admitted when they messed up, who shared stories about their family and hobbies. I try to bring that aspect in when it’s appropriate #MTedchat
I still find this just so hard to believe! It just goes to show that EVERY student has a special"ness" inside and it is our business to let (and MAKE) it shine! #mtedchat
Still so thankful for finding digital technologies to help scaffold learning for myself as things got more an more complicated and complex. #mtedchat Leveled the playing field a bit.
My sister volunteers in my classroom sometimes. My Ss get a kick out of the fact I have a sister! It makes me a little more human and not just a teacher to have my sis volunteer. #mtedchat
A3 "Don't worry about all of the things that you could have done better this year. Look forward to all of the things that you WILL do better next year!" #mtedchat
A3 Your career is not measured in your first year, reflect on the positives & make changes you feel you need to make Each year is a new learning experience #MTedchat
Why yes, although one of my kiddos schooled the class in Wooly Mammoth facts today...I couldn't tell them they were interrupting b/c it was so fascinating~ #MTedchat
A3 Your career is not measured in your first year, reflect on the positives & make changes you feel you need to make Each year is a new learning experience #MTedchat
I agree... we not only establish the relationships that support students in learning...we also model HOW to establish a strong relationship. Not all students have that model growing up. #mtedchat
A3) To all levels of teachers: share great memories, pull kids closer and teach them how to let go. This time of year is really hard for so many of our students and they don’t have the social/emotional skills to end relationships positively. #MTedchat
A3 Every year is a fresh start! Reflect on what went well and what practices you might want to change but don’t dwell on what you did or didn’t do. #MTedchat
A3) It's totally okay that you didn't "do it all." There is always next year to try some thing new and improve upon. Make sure you reflect and acknowledge what you DID do! #MTedchat
A3: I would advise them to tie up what you can, but let go of what you can't get to. Prioritize. If you don't know what to prioritize, meet with someone who can help. Take a walk.. make time to breathe. #mtedchat
A3: Make sure you learned more than you taught. Oh, and you made a few mistakes...but we all did! We’re just happy you’re part of our district family! #mtedchat
I agree. The EOY is hard for kinders b/c they really don't get it. I have them help in classroom cleanup for this reason. To help them w/ closure #MTedchat
It's funny, with the advantage of retrospect, how easy this sounds. I remember lying on the floor of my classroom my second year, wondering how ANYONE could do this job for 20 years. It seems like pure insanity to me! #mtedchat

A3: You’re probably have had moments where you wish you’d become an accountant instead of a T. But it does get better. It will get easier. Keep on believing as teaching has rewards like very few other careers. #MTedchat
Me too... I used to turn off the lights and sit around the corner from the door... Contemplating what to do next... Wondering if it was just me... That is actually when I took up running again. #mtedchat
HAHA! Actually, can you imagine if someone had told you, in your first year, that you needed to get on TWITTER for PD?! I would have laughed my face off! #mtedchat
A4) I keep teaching the way I always do. One benefit of being in K is that we don't test during state testing season in the same way other grades do. #MTedchat
A4: I can't wait to hear these responses. I know at CRMS T's are using @BookCreatorApp for reflections/summaries, & our @codeorg teachers are using circuit boards #MTedchat
A4: Find something to learn with your students... Coding, blogging, digital storytelling, interactive notebooks, sculpting, GO OUTSIDE, yoga, etc. Students need the 'new' too. Make it simple, shouldn't overwhelm...but take a risk. #mtedchat
I created my account at a large youth gathering b/c I wanted to get a tweet up on the big screen. Then I went to #EdCampPSWA and learned more. I haven't looked back since! #MTedchat

A4 I feel like this is my time to have fun with my Ss and try out anything new I’ve been wanting to try. This month we’re doing @breakoutEDU, @LEGO_Education, human battleship, playing with our @SpheroEdu. #MTedchat
I completely agree.... We don't put a lot of time into prep. The assessments themselves take some time and cause fatigue. Encourage staff to not sit back and coast to the end of the year. So much more to learn and do. #mtedchat
It's so funny (aka SAD) how we all know this, but we seem to be "powerless" to actually make the wheel stop running over everything in its path. #mtedchat
A4: Genius Hour, Robotics, @Flipgrid, Green Screen, Project-Based Learning, Student Created Projects, Community Service Projects, Student Clubs, Blogging, Guest Speakers, College Visits, and Personalized Learning #MTedchat

People want quantitative data to see where their children are at academically Performance based grading is a step in the right direction...but thats a topic for another night #MTedchat
Yes. Makes me more motivated to establish a system that minimizes stress. Some stress is healthy... but it must be both rational and manageable. Stress should motivate not increase fear and insecurities. #mtedchat
Q5: Have you had a mentor in your building? In your district? In your PLN? What can you do to show them appreciation for how they impacted you? #MTedchat
A5 I've had people I turned to, but not a mentor since my first job Best way to thank them is a simple "Thanks" & keep in communication with them #MTedchat
A5) Sometimes we think we need to do something big, but a simple statement of appreciation for their time of mentoring is all it takes. #sincerity#gratitude#MTedchat
A5: This year my unofficial mentor, @MelissaRomanoBL, has been the only reason I am going to teach 4th grade again next year. That, and my principal told me I couldn't go back to 1st grade. #MTedchat
A5) @schoolfish_ has been a wonderful mentor! She deals with my quirkieness and out loud thinking! Helped me w/ interactinve writing & interactive reading this year! :) #MTedchat
Q6a: There are many quotes, images, videos, articles etc. floating around that celebrate the power of educators and education. Share one of your favorites now ;) #MTedchat
A5 Hmmm.... this is a tough one. I have learned (maybe not literally been "mentored") from every single person with whom I have ever worked; some lessons were certainly more positive than others, but all of them were extraordinarily valuable! #mtedchat
Prior principal came in to give Ss pre-assessment talk. Basically "I know you will all do well. You will do your best. You don't need to have anxiety..you need to have constructive stress. Do you know what constructive stress is? It's the stress that makes you hit a PR..#mtedchat
