Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and what you like most about being in a G Suite district...OR what you wonder the most about GSuite, if you're not a GSuite user!
Hello, #TECHtalkGA! I'm Angela, Dist ITS for MS/HS in Forsyth Co!
What I love most about being a @gsuite T is the ease of collaboration & sharing of resources!
Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and what you like most about being in a G Suite district...OR what you wonder the most about GSuite, if you're not a GSuite user!
A1: Good evening #TECHTalkGA friends. You can see WHO I am in my profile.
WHAT I am is a passionate educator wanting to maximize the learning environment and opportunities of every single student.
I like #GoogleEDU / GSuite as it empowers that goal of mine, among other things
Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and what you like most about being in a G Suite district...OR what you wonder the most about GSuite, if you're not a GSuite user!
A1: I’m Courtney, Professional Learning Engineer... I wonder how my middle school teachers can use GSuite to manage workflow with their iPads #TECHtalkGA
Q1: Welcome to #TECHtalkGA! Share your name/dist/role and what you like most about being in a G Suite district...OR what you wonder the most about GSuite, if you're not a GSuite user!
A1: Sarah, 6th grade ELA teacher in Forsyth County, I love the ease of commenting and giving feedback & like I just learned from @MmeBurgess last week - giving voice comments using Google Read & Write! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q2: Google offers tools, apps, extensions, and add-ons! Let's start with their tools.
How would you define a G Suite tool to a teacher?
Which is your favorite to encourage student engagement?
A1: Leigha from Kingston Elementary School; serve as media specialist; not in a Google district, but it still remains my go-to tool. Use it every. single. day. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2: Well, first, let's dig into the "what" some more:
G Suite / #GoogleEDU calls their core suite of tools "Apps." Everything else is an Additional Service (YouTube is an Additional Service FWIW)

#TECHtalkGA A2:
Honestly, I think that Forms is my fav "tool"...either that or Hangouts, LOL.
I love being able to collect individual data or to connect with people on a real level with what is really happening!
#TECHtalkGA Q2: Google offers tools, apps, extensions, and add-ons! Let's start with their tools.
How would you define a G Suite tool to a teacher?
Which is your favorite to encourage student engagement?
A2: I guess I would start saying they are amazing tools or apps to make your life more efficient, teaching more effective, and student work more engaging. I love Google Drawings and Slides for student engagement. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I think there’s some crossover between tools/apps. The core Google Suite is built around Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive, with the addition of Classroom. They’re all powerful in their own way, but I think you can do so much with a Hyperdoc that I’d say Docs #1 #techtalkga
A2: favorite tool for student engagement is probably Slides for collaboration or using w/ Peardeck, my favorite is Google Classroom - makes sharing tasks so much easier & I love giving feedback/engaging in conversations with students through private comments #TECHtalkGA
#TECHTalkGA A2: That being said, the best way to describe G Suite for Education in one sentence is as a flexible continually-growing cloud-based suite of programs that empowers a seamless and personalized learning environment.
Also, it plays nice with other digital programs!

#TECHtalkGA Q2: Google offers tools, apps, extensions, and add-ons! Let's start with their tools.
How would you define a G Suite tool to a teacher?
Which is your favorite to encourage student engagement?
A3: I guess some of my favorite apps would be Classroom or Keep. Again the ability to collaborate is KEY in order to make the most efficient use of everyone involved time. #TECHtalkGA
A3: I tell my teacher to think of apps like what you’d find in your start menu on your Windows computer. Heavier duty than an extension, but not a core Google app. Can someone buy me a Jamboard so I can try that out? 🙏🏻 #TECHtalkGA
#TECHTalkGA A3: It's hard to recommend a blanket most used or favorite app, since it honestly depends upon the learner's / teacher's need or experience.
For a newbie, I wouldn't jump right in to Arts & Culture without extolling Gmail / Calendar first, for example.

#TECHtalkGA Q4: Now to extensions, often confused with apps & add-ons.
How do you describe an extension to someone who doesn't understand?
What's your favorite for students? For teachers?
#TECHTalkGA A3: But if I had to pick, my two would have to be Slides and Arts & Culture. I have done SO MUCH with Arts & Culture during my time in the classroom. I love what @GoogleForEdu and @gsuite offers through that program!

#TECHtalkGA A3: I describe "Apps" as similar to links to webpages...it's just another way to get to where you want to go. Maybe faster, if you don't know the address, but still just a website.
Sadly, I know most of my websites, so I don't use a lot of apps. Suggestions??
A4: I usually say that an extension "enhances" the browsing experience, or takes whatever you are doing to the next level! Love the Keep extension for bookmarking. CraftyText for displaying weblinks. #TECHtalkGA
I quite literally live by my Google Calendar. I carefully set up my settings so I get multiple notifications in a variety of ways and I receive a summary every morning at 5:00 AM of what I have on the docket. And the new gCal design is phenomenal! #TECHtalkGA
A4: think of an extension as things that live in your Windows taskbar. Always there, always available. Recently I’ve been loving Beanote, which is the first really effective web page highlighting and notating tool I’ve found. Also Google Cast 4 Education is a lifesavr #techtalkga
And THAT is the whole point behind tonight's conversation! After a 15 email exchange conversation, I realized that MANY people don't know the difference!

My Digital Portfolios page https://t.co/4E2DXaJhhB For our learning purpose: Portfolios are a story of a student’s educational life. They can be used to demonstrate and reflect on the growth and attainment of knowledge and skills over time.
#TECHtalkGA
A2: Forms=fantastic, LOVE the data results...but i definitely use Docs and Slides more on a daily basis in class. I like the creative elements for Ss with those. #TECHtalkGA
A4: Extens: the great suspender, GIPHY for chrome, GIPHY for Gmail, honey, Gsuite training. The last one helps with my LMGTSFU workflow. I guide users here first. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Finally, last question: add-ons!
Now that add-ons are available for all of the core tools, what's your go-to definition to set them apart from apps or extensions?
Pick a tool and give us your 3 favorite add-ons!
There are a few of those that cross both worlds and function as an extension AND an app / add-on.
Perhaps @GoogleForEdu / @gsuite needs to work on the terminology a little! #TECHTalkGA

A5: addons only work within Google Apps. The @PearDeck add-on is amazing. Advanced Form Notifications is a must. Also - love Doctopus for managing big doc rollouts outside of Classroom. #techtalkga
Classroom is a game changer! I remember having kids share things with me before Classroom and searching my Shared with Me forever to find things. #TECHtalkGA

We are blowing up our system currently with @PearDeck. It has been phenomenal in a multitude of learning environments and structures! So very useful. #TECHtalkGA
A5: I usually explain that Add-ons work inside/alongside the G Suite tool to take that tool to the next level. I love @PearDeck new add-on inside Slides. Also Icons by Noun Project and Unsplash. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A5:
Oh wow, so many! I use Forms so much that my favorite add-ons probably come from there...
Certify 'Em, Advance Summary by Awesome Table, and Choice Eliminator are some of my faves!
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Finally, last question: add-ons!
Now that add-ons are available for all of the core tools, what's your go-to definition to set them apart from apps or extensions?
Pick a tool and give us your 3 favorite add-ons!
A6: Orange Slice, Read and Write, and Grammarly are my go to add ons. I would describe these as extra features for your core components of the Google Suite. #TECHtalkGA
WOW! That was a ton of info in such a short time! Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to all of you for joining in!
Be sure to join us next week, when we'll jump to the other side of the road and talk Microsoft Office 365!
Within a Sheet currently open in another browser window:
=QUERY({QUERY(MES!A1:BP);QUERY(GSES!A1:BP);QUERY(WJES!A1:BP)},"Select * where Col1 is not null order by Col2 asc")
It's just another language, folks! That's all! Really! #TECHTalkGA

#techtalkga sorry I missed out tonight. I've been listening to @remhq and having my good friend @maherley help me out on some #autocrat. We have a few spots left for @edcampGA. As a wise person once said "Y'all come on!"
#techtalkga@JDigitalLearn Dude, my wife got me some wireless headphones that will rival your blow up the deathstar headphone. It's good stuff. Listening to #murmur to break them in. Good Stuff!
You can do it!!! It reads like this:
"Do a combine query of each of these other queries from three tabs and then pick ALL columns from each row where the 1st column is not blank and order the result of all the above alphabetically A-Z by Column 2."
There you go! #TECHtalkGA
