Q1:Wikipedia says,“Reflective practice is the ability to reflect on one's actions so as to engage in a process of continuous learning.”It is intentional & a conscious process. In our busy lives, how do you find time for reflection? How often do you reflect on yr practice? #ATchat
A1: Ideally during common planning with RS and during SSP; definitely when writing IEPs, RRs, progress reports, analyzing progress monitoring; personalized PD inservices (we propose our own for the year) #ATchat
A2 cont.: I love having 3 levels of content to instruct this year; using @nearpod like crazy and can make instant adjustments based on in the moment reflection & I revise plans based on reflection daily #ATchat
I think written reflection is the best way to stay disciplined in reflection. I try to constantly be reflecting so that I can appreciate growth and developement. #atchat
I find I am continually reflecting, sometimes in the moment, sometimes at a later date when things are quiet. The reflections happens after meetings, Evals, conversations, implementations, observations, etc... #ATchat
A1: I try to find time once a week but what pushes me to a larger reflection is thinking about what to present at a conference- what have I done that could be helpful to share. #ATchat
A1: As a pre-service teacher, I am learning the importance of reflection and how important it is. It is important to intentionally set time aside to reflect so you can improve for the future #atchat
A1: When learning a lesson, always to be reflecting on what you are learning, asking essential questions to make sure the topic is understood. I do not reflect as often as I should but reflecting helps to define understanding #ATchat
Its was amazing. Lots of knowledgeable people. Learned about lots of chrome extensions as well as how schools should approach teaching paraprofessionals about AT and how to use AT in yoga. Also lots of new gagets/AT out for the visually impaired and dsylexic community #atchat
Love the data collected and being able to instantly add an activity when students need extra background knowledge development, reinforcement, or extension #ATchat
A2: I think am most comfortable with dialectic thinking. I would like to be more prone to deliberate thinking though. I want to thoroughly consider all elements of a situation, not just consider my immediate thoughts or reactions. #atchat
A2: I would be most comfortable using the Deliberate Mode of Thinking because it encourages deeper understanding than what is taught. I wish I used Technological Mode more because it uses external sources to gain information. #ATchat
A2: I would honestly say I use all 4 modes of reflection. I believe that being open to reflecting allows it to happen really anywhere and at any time. It’s about seeking, listening and observing what’s in front of you! #ATchat
A 2: i would say I am a mix between technological and situational due to the nature of being a substitute. Gives me great insight into different levels of support as students age #ATchat
A2: I think Technological and Situational thinking happen frequently throughout my day. I want to be more Dialectic. Deeper thinking to solve problems #ATchat
A2: I am most comfortable with deliberate and situational modes of thinking. I would love to be comfortable with all four and hope to someday get to that point once I start actively teaching #atchat
#atchat A2: Being mentored by Don Johnston himself who is an expert at system change, I would say I am Dialectic and Deliberate. I look at how the System can change!
#atchat A2: Being mentored by Don Johnston himself who is an expert at system change, I would say I am Dialectic and Deliberate. I look at how the System can change!
A2: in daily practice I'm a technological and situational thinker; but for unit planning, developing SDI, planning for fading and prompt reduction and adjustment of lessons after previous lesson I'm more of a deliberate thinker-make any sense? #ATchat
#atchat Can't believe I'm putting this out since I don't cook but... Reflective thinking is like the crock pot of the mind. It encourages your thoughts to simmer until they're done.

A2: I see myself using all 4 modes of thinking. I definitely need some reflection time to use deliberate and dialectic but I do think that way more often than the others. #ATchat
A2: I use all four kinds of thinking but I'm most comfortable with deliberate. I prefer dialectic in a team approach as systems invoke many stakeholders #ATchat
I feel like I missed Q3!
Q3: Review Six Keys To Turning Reflection into Action
https://t.co/yUp6ohDjmM Are you able to envision a “next time, commit and do it?” What does that look like for you? What obstacles do you need to overcome? #ATchat

At this point I am most comfortable with the technological way of thinking because that allows me to get needed information for teachers and other staff members so that I am able to best support students in miss you too current role as a Paraprofessional substitute. #atchat
A3: I think one the most challenging things is coming up with practical improvements. Recognizing weaknesses can be easy, but finding practical ways to adjust is difficult. The do it! portion is the most important part. Reflection without action is fruitless! #atchat

Q3: Review Six Keys To Turning Reflection into Action
https://t.co/yUp6ohDjmM Are you able to envision a “next time, commit and do it?” What does that look like for you? What obstacles do you need to overcome? #ATchat
A3: Our team worked hard the past few years to improve reflection; regularly schedule team SSP, ongoing notes and follow-up check ins; making sure we "divide and conquer" #ATchat
A4: Showing those you interact with (especially parents) that you are about them and what they have to say, especially your students and taking what they say to you into consideration is key. #atchat
A4: Showing those you interact with (especially parents) that you care about them and what they have to say, especially your students and taking what they say to you into consideration is key. #atchat
A3: Time is the greatest factor to overcome, along with making the changes realistic. Even the best laid plans fall short if they aren’t “doable”. I try to bounce ideas off of colleagues, my husband, anyone who will listen (lol) #ATchat
A3: I can envision a next time, commit, and do it. This looks like reflecting on my lesson plans in the classroom, think of what I could do better, commit to doing it. The obstacles to be overcome with this actually implementing the lesson instead of revertingto the old #atchat
A3: there's a breaking point where the scariness of the risk that change involves is less than the scariness of carrying on as always. Hope that commitment to change can come before a relationship breakdown #ATchat
A3: I think we need to be realistic and prioritize the things we want to change. Sometimes making too many changes at once can feel overwhelming and then that can be paralyzing with the “do it” part! #ATchat
A4: put it out there! Whatever platform works best for you, but share, share, share...open your door and walls; so much available to get people knowing what is going on in your classroom; esp SPED; we are too misunderstood! #ATchat
Q4: Listening more than talking. I’m trying to work hard on this. I especially am listening more to my students...what is working, what isn’t. Then as a team of Ts, Ps, and Ss we adapt to make it realistic. This creates more work, but also makes it meaningful. #ATchat
A4: A way to develop relationships with parents is to invite them into your classroom as much as you can to make the students feel that you care about their home life and want to bring that into the classroom. #ATchat
And the best laid plans can get thrown off by simple "humanity"--- that health situation, tech goes down, students are tired, absenteeism, that social-emotional teachable moment that takes priority, etc. #atchat
Q5: Describe how you & your team utilize the QIAT Eval of Effectiveness to ensure successful AT implementation: Evaluation of Effectiveness of AT :(QI5-MS Word) (QI5-PDF) #ATchat
A3: I think taking the time to reflect is hard because I am so new to all of this and after a long day the last thing I want to do is think about it more. But after reading that article I realize reflection is just as import as may be just as importantt relax #atchat
Agreed! Just training this week on listening. The hardest part for people seems to be exploring. Asking questions is a critical part of listening! #atchat
We listen with the intent to respond, not learn. It’s a shift in mindset to really not just listen, but to hear people. Read between the lines. Interpret what they mean. #ATchat
A5: fortunate to be part of a team that just seems to use the 5QIs for AT Eval of Effectiveness naturally in our dialogue/planning during SSP time; we use a great deal of regularly scheduled SSP time with SLPs, OT, PT, BVI, DHH, etc. We have a big, AWESOME team. #ATchat
A4: this sounds obvious, but I think knowing their names really helps. Make an effort to get to know them personally, not just professionally. Communicate often and make yourself approachable! #ATchat
Initially it’s more listening. I want to learn about the student from those who know them best. This shifts to facilitating...open discussions on how we can make the technology work for everyone. #ATchat
A6: I hope to improve on different modes of thinking and growing more comfortable in those ways. Also, being more intentional about building relationships with future colleagues, parents, students, and other professionals
#atchat
A6: I am providing feedback to my Ss on their final AT assessment project so I will be looking at creating a list of things I need to change for my course for next semester based on their assessments and feedback. #ATchat
How do you keep "on task", keep time managed effectively, and make sure that the objectives of teaming session are being addressed, not just getting stuck in a cycle of "talk" and no "plan" or "next steps"? #atchat
Same here! I work for an incredibly supportive district with teams that view the tech as an integral part of the learning process, not as an add on. We work collaboratively and closely with continual open dialogues. I feel very lucky! #ATchat
#atchat A6 Try this. Think only about what is working and how you can do more of it. It is so much fun and motivating! That is our goal @DonJohnstonInc
Maybe because I'm the one who knows the students the best, this is where I get caught being the "lead dialoguer".... I can describe the intricacies #ATchat

I’m learning to set clear, short term goals instead of trying to implement it all at once which can be overwhelming and unrealistic. We prioritize what’s most important, start there and add on as needed. Setting timelines to revisit and reflect on what’s working and not! #ATChat
split those jobs up and empower team members to "be in charge" of some of these tasks. I fall into this too - just doing too much because I want it to get done. We need to bring ALL members into the process! #ATchat
Have your objectives posted for everyone to see. Assign someone to be the facilitator, someone to be the timekeeper and someone to be the process observer. Seek consensus, not 100% agreement--I ask the question "Can you live with this?" not "Do you love this?" #atchat

#ATchat: I got tired of trying to keep the huge team of people up-to-date; so one year I started scheduling regular SSP meetings at the beginning of the year so that we could all be in the loop and on same page; b4 I was always forgetting to update someone!
I try to do this by being our "note keeper" however, b/c I know the intricacies (teach MDS) I find myself spending more time explaining and less reflecting within the team setting....then reflecting on my own later. #ATchat

It’s embedded in the culture...I also am a believer that once the teams see the positive impact the tech can have in being a “game changer” or leveling the playing field, it creates an authentic buy in. We are all working towards a common goal to support our students. #ATchat
This was a big shift for me after attending ATIA last year. Learning to take a step back from the expert model and allow others to take the lead. #ATchat

Love my "divide and conquer team"...we are a mighty team that accomplishes great things in short periods of time b/c we all believe in how much it matters and we are all type-A personalities that love to get things done efficiently and WELL- ha! #ATchat
Learning to delegate tasks as a team and having patience with the process are essential skills that can be temporarily frustrating. But it leads to better teams, so it's worth it. #ATchat

I ensure a work life balance by creating blocks of time respected for no work. I make sure to stick to this so I can take care of myself which helps me impact students more. #atchat
A7: so important to find that balance. I struggle with this at times. Having my own company I want to keep working to make it better. Need to take a breath once in a while! #ATchat
Q7: This is 100% my personal-professional goal this year; learning to get off the email; not work on weekends or past a reasonable time in evening; have turn-off times; rediscover my personal interests (e.g. reading for pleasure); self-care #ATchat
A7: It is important to maintain a life balanced outside of school. While tough, it is important to keep them separate during set time (weekends especially) #atchat
A7: Trying to manage my time efficiently. I value my job, but I also won’t get my time back with my own children. Designate nights/times when I extend my work life so it doesn’t overtake my personal one. #ATchat
A7: I've rarely felt guilty about my "self-care" moments but I've learned to become more intentional about them. Take a weekend away from electronic things (other than my kindle). #ATchat
