Q1: What does it mean to have intentionality in our practices? #akedchat
  • InspiredImpact Nov 12 @ 11:08 PM EST
#akedchat A1: To me, I am intentional in my practice when I purposely take action that I have considered will lead to my objectives.
  • teachwithmrsmac Nov 12 @ 11:10 PM EST
Q1: Intentionality is two-fold. 1) Relevant curriculum or lessons 2) Clearly defined purpose/targets determined between teachers, students, community shareholders. #akedchat

Kelly Auer from Anchorage. Sorry I'm late - toddler bedtime is going to be my excuse for at least another year, I'm afraid. :) #akedchat

Haha! No worries! Glad you are here! Many of us have kids to put to bed around this time! :) #akedchat
    In reply to @KDA_AK
  • KDA_AK Nov 12 @ 11:16 PM EST
A1: Intentionality to me means that all parts of our practices have been thoughtfully planned and considered, both from a content perspective and from the perspective of who we are teaching. #akedchat

Q1: What does it mean to have intentionality in our practices? #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:17 PM EST
    Let's move on to Question #2 #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:18 PM EST
"all parts of our practice" is a very tall order! But you are right! The more that we have a system of checks and balances, the more that we stay fresh! #akedchat
    In reply to @KDA_AK
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:21 PM EST
Yes! Having Ss partner with us in the interest of making their educational experience more rich! Have you ever had a Student call their parent about a celebration? #akedchat
    In reply to @teachwithmrsmac
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:23 PM EST
Can I like this tweet like 100 times? The reflection... Oh yes!!!!! Such a vital piece that we usually put last. #akedchat
    In reply to @HandelandMrs
  • KDA_AK Nov 12 @ 11:26 PM EST
A2: Intentionality includes the student as a learner, but (ideally) as a shaper of the content as well. Kids' response to lessons drives changes in the lessons. With inquiry, they are eventually doing a significant amount of the planning too. #akedchat
  • InspiredImpact Nov 12 @ 11:26 PM EST
#akedchat A2: If "strong intentionality" means what is best for student learning, then a student has a lead role. Teacher's role should be a support, setting the students up for successful learning.
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:27 PM EST
So true! How often do you solicit feedback from your Ss? #akedchat
    In reply to @KDA_AK
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:28 PM EST
Hey @KNRLeslie So glad you chimed in! "evaluating fresh based on your Ss" A key component to intentionality... #akedchat
    In reply to @KNRLeslie, @KNRLeslie
  • teachwithmrsmac Nov 12 @ 11:29 PM EST
A2: Students become colleagues in a practice of strong intentionality. Their voice has weight. Their goals drive the learning. #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:29 PM EST
Student Self-advocates? Sign me up!! How can we offer this opportunity more for the students? #akedchat
    In reply to @HandelandMrs
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:30 PM EST
    OK! Let's keep rolling... Question #3 #akedchat
  • KNRLeslie Nov 12 @ 11:31 PM EST
Yes. We are explorers and learners together #AKedchat
    In reply to @teachwithmrsmac
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:31 PM EST
"Ss become colleagues" Wow! The content expert + the person who knows themselves best! What a team! #akedchat
    In reply to @teachwithmrsmac
  • teachwithmrsmac Nov 12 @ 11:32 PM EST
A3: Increase student agency. This is an area I struggle to implement well in the traditional system, but I recognize how critical it is. #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:34 PM EST
Whoa! An interesting answer that I didn't think of! Can you give an example? #akedchat
    In reply to @teachwithmrsmac
  • KDA_AK Nov 12 @ 11:34 PM EST
A3: I try to consider the best and worst potential outcomes & make tweaks based on that to include more support options for struggling students & places for strong students to stretch/challenge themselves. #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:35 PM EST
"Thanking people for Self-advocating!" When Ts place value on self-adovcating, S voice means something VERY different! #akedchat
    In reply to @HandelandMrs
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:37 PM EST
I wonder about every new group of Ss that walks in... would a preview of the scope of work to come help guide the work from the beginning using their feedback? #akedchat
    In reply to @KDA_AK
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:38 PM EST
Whoa! Ss intentions! Do you make that a factor in your planning? How does that play into the "traditional" system? #akedchat
    In reply to @KNRLeslie
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:40 PM EST
What an amazing group of educators! Sounds like you have concrete intentionality! Here is Question #4 #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:44 PM EST
Yes, that is what I meant! :) Giving Ss the list of standards, a rubric, etc. and asking them for guidance on their preferences where choice can be had. #akedchat
    In reply to @KDA_AK
  • teachwithmrsmac Nov 12 @ 11:44 PM EST
A4: Co-teaching! I've made more progress this year thanks to my co-teacher (new to the subject/grade level) than in the past. She's pushed me to engage Ss with the learning, esp. traditionally underserved groups. #akedchat
    • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:40 PM EST
What an amazing group of educators! Sounds like you have concrete intentionality! Here is Question #4 #akedchat
  • KNRLeslie Nov 12 @ 11:45 PM EST
You know I do! 😜and it means I need to intentionally choose to forgo full time on the traditional system of standards driven content... it doesn't always play smoothly. #AKedchat

  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:45 PM EST
Be Specific Kimmie! This is where we can learn from each other with key examples... I know for example, that you have students try to make bridges between the content and what they want to gain from the class. THAT is intentionality! #akedchat
    In reply to @KNRLeslie
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:47 PM EST
Right on! Exemplars are great! Being clear about our expectations! Is there room in the projects for students to determine things? For example format or which standards they want to tackle? :) "I am ready to show you I can add with re-grouping!" #akedchat
    In reply to @HandelandMrs
  • KNRLeslie Nov 12 @ 11:49 PM EST
Fair enough Mandy Pants - my Ss have 25% of their course to design themselves, with my support + guidance, either reaching proficiency, Diving into small relevant topics or going big on a personalized outcome bridge to the course #AKedchat

A4: jumping in late.. I try hard to really listen to students’ conversations and questions, observe their reactions. What caught their attention the most, and how can we explore it even further? #akedchat
    • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:40 PM EST
What an amazing group of educators! Sounds like you have concrete intentionality! Here is Question #4 #akedchat
  • KDA_AK Nov 12 @ 11:50 PM EST
A4: This is tough without time and collaboration w/other teachers. It's so easy to get in a rut and do what's comfortable, esp. when time is so ltd! The best thing that kicks me into gear is sharing ideas w/peers. #akedchat

OK! Let's dial it in with this one... Question #5 #akedchat
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:55 PM EST
Yes! yes! yes! Transparency is soooo powerful! ON our successes, plans, mistakes, failures! All of it! #akedchat

  • InspiredImpact Nov 12 @ 11:56 PM EST
#akedchat A5: So much of this conversation returns to the T actually hearing student feedback and voice. Again, with this question, give students a choice so they can choose which tools work best for them. Provide time for them to learn the variety of tools available to them.
  • amsuad Nov 12 @ 11:56 PM EST
A great tool! And so many uses for it! #akedchat

Do you have a specific one to suggest? :) #akedchat
    In reply to @InspiredImpact
  • InspiredImpact Nov 12 @ 11:57 PM EST
#akedchat Sharing student feedback with other students, respectfully of course, is very important. Come to think of it, sharing student feedback with other Ts may help to open their eyes, too!
    • HandelandMrs Nov 12 @ 11:56 PM EST
The only specific tool I can think to share is using Google Forms for student feedback. The process makes them reflect and the results are organized in a way that’s easy for me to see (and share)!

Wow! Where did an hour go? Let's wrap up with this final question... #akedchat
  • InspiredImpact Nov 12 @ 11:59 PM EST
Sorry! My new puppy hit return on my keyboard! I was going to say "Thanks for asking :) " For instance, some students may feel very comfortable with Flipgrid as an exit ticket, but some may be uncomfortable with video and may want to provide feedback with a Padlet. #akedchat
