-
Yeah, hello it's been ages. How are you all xx
-
I have to do audits of practice which can be quite daunting but I'm tying tonight's chat in with my theme of literacy
-
Evening all! I remembered to be here, but everything else is turning quickly to poop...
-
-

-
ah you need snuggly socks!
-
Hi :) How are you? Settled in with those newbies?
-
Like herding sheep! And now technology is failing me. Actually its my fault, can't remember some essential passwords!
-
yeah it's good I enjoy leading a team but it's def not easy. I'm trying to be the leader I would follow
-

Hi Sue, how are you? might be leaving early tonight- work! (sorry Lyndsey) Heidi is dropping in later
-
Sorry phone just rang for me.

-
Evening all from a very damp and drizzly Leeds. Hoping to steal lots of ideas tonight...
-
Oh god I TRIED always to make that my mantra, not always easy but DEF with you there :)
-
-
it's really hard as I forget people do not respond to things they way I do and that's a hard lesson!
-
Hi Annie, how are you? Good day? Mine has been manic and still got stuff to finish before bed- week!
-
I'm hoping to steal ideas too lol
-
YEP! or you think what you said was clear but it gets interpreted in a very diff way!
-
Learning from those lessons is what will make you a fab leader though :)
-
oops forgot hash tag π
-
-
Ok everyone let's get warm and cosy and discuss literacy in your outdoor setting. How do you implement it throughout πΏπ±π΄π¨ππβοΈπ
-
-
We have a small wooden playhouse which we set up as a Pen Den in the hope we would get more CI writing
-
Hi Wendy I always have two screens going to pick up non hash taggers ππHow are you? Settled into Sept?
-
-
getting there just π lol you forget how hard the start is
-
We have plastic carry boxes with clipboards, small books, pencils, pens etc to encourage writing/mark making
-
chalks, painting with water, large paper, outdoor chalk/white boards, clipboards etc
-
We like to make lots of use of chunky chalk outside but def feel we could do more
-
but loving it and we went in the woods today π
-
We have panels with blackboard paint and chunky chalks by each. Chn love to do all - from scribbles to sentence writing
-
How many of you have stories available outside every day?
-
musical instruments music and a stage
-
we have an outdoor writing shed full of provision, plus love giant chalk boards fixed to outdoor walls-clever caretaker!
-
We have a playhouse with books inside
-
we have book boxes in reading tents or in shelters or read whole class in the large teepee!
-
yes, my list was only mark making, much more to literacy such as communication & language :)
-
Couple of years ago we set up a story wood- with story telling den, they loved it! Had a character/plot/setting trees to inspire
-
-
great idea we have this but inside it is great to use these kinds of things outside as they are easy to use
-
painting with water is my absolute favourite activity to watch! It's so so soothing!
-
We have lots of clipboards and various dangling pots on ikea rails all round and lots of sticks for mark making in sand soil etc
-
Imaginative play always fab outside for developing speak/list! Fairy hunting always our fave for literacy play
-
agree that's where I think my setting can fall short as we may not see it as wide as it can be
-
I love this too and filling the tuff spot with mud or sand etc
-
Same here and we tried to have large mark making that exercised different muscles than equip we had inside
-
lots of phase 1 phonics done outside. Love a good listening walk/environmental sounds
-
yes we sometimes forget and think of books or writing
-
Like large mops/brushes/ chunky chalk, painting with water over size paint brushes etc
-
Best communication around outdoor water tray (pond liner) using guttering, stands and tuff spot - transporting water and bits
-
Can be tricky esp when weather gets worse :)
-
Early literacy is so important and it's great to get so many fan ideas from you all. This is why I love
-
that's true the weather has been kind recently
-
Oh it's my favourite thing- acorn tops? NEVER you mean fairy hats :) look out for fairy ladders- all trees have them
-
Yes! Ours love yard brushes: colour mixing with powder paint, bubbles, sweeping leaves. Great for shoulder strength
-
our children love looking up Minibeasts they find in non fiction books we have outside in explorer packs with spotting sheets
-
Songs outside are always a fun activity and listening to the sounds around us. Birds, leaves cars, planes etc
-
ooo fairy ladders sounds fab
-
Ooooh getting excited now- Spray bottles of paint in the snow is THE BEST!
-
yes and when making mud pies lots of chat about cafes different foods all great literacy!
-
fairy hats wow ! Thank you
-
Sorry everyone, really struggling to keep up as so tired, Great topic but I'm signing off. have a great week!
-
leaf and bark rubbing great mark making and muscle strength activity especially in the autumn
-
great language in the mud kitchen when children create their own dishes, some have a go at writing them on the chalkboard menu
-
Do you find children who don't sing inside, will join in outside? Space to dance/perform too
-
ooo yes and of course the mud kitchen and reading and making recipes and potions
-
yes that's great we have flash cards from forest schools which we use in the woods!
-
Ooooo yes window 'washing' with spray bottles. Site mgr not impressed!
-
-
-
alliteration in the mud kitchen- stone soup, leafy lasagne, snail sandwiches, pine cone pickle, slug surprise, pine cone pie!
-
-
:( Go and sleep- know how you feel! see you next week hopefully
-
-
love doing these activities also flower pressing and all the conversations, predictions as to whether it will work
-
Some even talk loads outside who won't inside. Freedom
-
yes I have also taken speakers outside and it's amazing their reaction especially the quieter children
-
yes they do they are like different children once outdoors
-
Ha ha I love what they get up to with spray bottles! Literacy dev by stealth! ;)
-
not done flower pressing for ages. Right, that's on the plan for next week! Thanks
-
-
we get into trouble too π
-
Funny how change of setting inspires the quiet ones isn't it? Speakers outside is a great idea, like that!
-
I find it really interesting playing them lots of different types of music outside and discussing it. Fascinating insights
-
YEP Musical instruments more bearable outside too! ;) We set up a music fence and area- can be mega noisy!
-
If you had to fill a box with your literacy outdoor must haves what would be in it?????? π²ππ΄πΏπ¦π¦
-
love musical fence we have one with pots but that the children can move around too!
-
We do 'Squiggle while we wiggle' /wake & shake outside with music. Love it when they lead - shout instructions demo gestures
-
signing off now bedtime for me thanks all catch u next week
-
Spray bottles, brushes, sticks, string, story pics/ fairy pics (laminated) Would prob have diff things- diff weather
